ABODO Laminated Timber Cladding coated with ABODO Ebony Oil was chosen on this project. Being Thermally modified the Abodo product was supplied in much wider 180mm boards – the thermal modification process not only offers great stability, but also a great species to coat. The FSC Certified ABODO Cladding range offers a renewable alternative to some of the more traditional Larch or Cedar cladding that the construction market are used to.

NORclad supplied nearly 7,000/LM of pre-coated Thermowood across this contemporary project in Berkhamsted.Thermowood is a great timber when it comes to applying a coating, after going through the heat treating process, the Finnish grown European Redwood/Whitewood (Scandinavian Pine/Spruce) is more stable. It is suitable in conditions of changing humidity, and its thermal insulation properties are improved, ideal for use in exposed areas such as External Timber Cladding.The heat treatment process enables the use of Scandinavian Redwood in areas requiring a service life of up to 30 years without the need for any further preservative or coating to be applied. The process removes resin from timber, as a result there is no resin leakage or “bleed” through the surface coatings. The effect of this together with the improved stability can lead to a lower maintenance requirement, combined with the application of the Sansin SDF system, which will further protect the outside of wood.The SDF product also protects the inside by allowing the timber to ‘breath’ – helping to prevent moisture from getting trapped in the wood and causing rot.

Canadian Western Red Cedar Timber Cladding has been used as the primary external material on this private home in The South West, local to Bristol.A well thought out design is key when working with Timber Cladding as a façade material, on this project you can see the consideration has been made to ensure there are no large soffits that would hinder the weathering to silver/ grey as UV light hits the timber. Likewise a consideration has been made for the lengths available of the material, opting for prescribed breaks in material on a number of elevations, rather than opting for random or staggered joints.Tongue and Groove boards were selected for the main property in a horizontal installation, with a board on board design chosen for the verticals that can be seen on the outbuilding. On both structures visible stainless steel fixings have been used, although Canadian WRC is a timber than is stable enough to be secret fixed, the fixings work well on this property with the other design characteristics.Longer term; no coatings were applied to the cladding, allowing it to naturally weather down as can be seen in the photos. In turn there is almost zero maintenance to carry out, other than the usual of keeping the material clean from any dirt or debris that can build up over time from pollutants in the air.

Timber Cladding: NORclad Painted ThermowoodCoating: Sansin SDF Paint SystemNORclad supplied over 18,500/LM of Painted product for this project, primarily across 3 different finished widths; 120mm (6500LM), 136mm (6100LM), and 178mm (4800/LM). A couple of additional board sizes were also supplied for reveals and particular detailing areas.Thermowood is the perfect Timber species for coating, being a timber with almost zero moisture movement the chance of coating failures is minimal. Supplied pre-finished with the Sansin SDF system, the material was ready to be installed as soon as it was delivered to site.

Project: Steiner Academy, Frome Completed on Site: 2014 Timber Cladding: Welsh Larch This project saw untreated Welsh Larch used in 2 of our standard profiles. All the Horizontal Cladding installed on the project was our Double Chamfer/ Rhombus profile, NWCC1. The Vertical Cladding being supplied in the form of our T&G NWC2 board. Both of these profiles are machined from an Ex 25 x 150mm section size, to the grading criteria of Western Larch as specified by the Architect at Aedas/AHR. Over time this timber will weather to the silver/ grey that can be expected of from Larch.

Siberian Larch was supplied for this project in four different half lap profiles, utilising standard widths of timber to retain the value from the timber, and reduce waste – whilst the different widths board create an interesting image over the vast areas of timber cladding. NORclad Grade B was supplied, offering a fair spread of knots, along with the distinctive grain of the species which can be seen across the images.

UWE Bower Ashton, Completed Summer 2017. Timber Cladding: Untreated Siberian Larch was supplied for this project, this will weather down to a silver grey to blend in to its surroundings, and contrast the other materials on the building. NORclad Grade B was supplied, offering a fair spread of knots, along with the distinctive grain of the species. Profiles: Horizontal cladding was a bespoke chamfered profile (Ex 25 x 100mm) Vertical timbers on the building are in a number of dimensions, Ex 25 x 100, Ex 50 x 50mm, and Ex 50 x 75mm.

NORclad were specified as the timber cladding supplier to this project, working with the Main Contractor on site we were able to work to a length schedule and optimise the lengths supplied with the aim to minimize wastage from offcuts on site. Profiles: Over 9000/LM of 45 x 95mm PAR boards were supplied for this project, pre-treated before it arrives to site, the MicroShades ‘Brunnea’ treatment offers a 30 year warranty against Rot & Fungal decay.

Architects: Bryden Wood Architects Product: Canadian Western Red Cedar Timber Cladding & Blue Label Certigrade Shingles Approximately 24km of Canadian Western Red Cedar has been suppled for this project so far in London, a new build development of 9 blocks, each containing multiple apartments, with undercroft parking. Untreated Canadian Western Red Cedar cladding from NORclad will weather off to a silver grey appearance over time, and settle into the surrounding area. The same species was selected, this time not to be machined into a T&G cladding, but as Blue Label WRC Certigrade Shingles.

Canadian Western Red Cedar has been suppled in vast volumes for this project in the South East. Untreated Canadian Western Red Cedar cladding from NORclad will weather off to a silver grey appearance over time, and settle into the surrounding area. Canadian Western Red Cedar is a favourite to specify with architects and clients, the high quality of timber both visually with the minimal knot content, along with the natural durability the species make it a popular choice where and untreated softwood timber cladding is required.

Product: Canadian Western Red Cedar Over 7000/LM of Canadian Western Red Cedar was provided for this job in London, a workspace environment is suited well to the timber cladding façade. An untreated board, machined to our NWCC1 Chamfered Cladding profile. All associated WRC machined trims, high pressure treated imported battens were also supplied for this project. Being a very high quality of timber both visually the minimal knot content, along with the natural durability the species offers, making Canadian Western Red Cedar a favourite amongst architect and clients alike.

Canadian Western Red Cedar Timber Cladding with NORclad Brunnea treatment Approximately 7.5km of Canadian Western Red Cedar has been suppled for this project in Wednesbury, machined to our face fix NWC2 T&G profile. Brunnea treated Canadian Western Red Cedar cladding from NORclad offers a formal 30 year warranty against rot and fungal decay. The NORclad Brunnea treatment is a popular choice, containing a pigment and UV inhibitors – there is a good level of colour stability VS uncoated timbers. Being a preservative treatment rather than a coating, there is less involved in terms of maintaining the product.

Siberian Larch with NORclad Lite Presevative Treatment All of the external cladding, and fins for the state-of-the-art facility, along with balustrade and handrail components, the same Siberian Larch then runs into the main reception of the building Utilising an certified NORclad® Siberian Larch, the specification includes our NORclad Lite Preservative treatment applied to the timber. The preservative treatment provides a formal warranty on the product for 30 years against rot and fungal decay (out of ground contact). Products specified, Treatment Services applied under ISO 9001 factory controlled conditions.

NORclad have been supplying the timber cladding on this project over the past couple of years, a mixture of Tongue and Groove boards, feature fins, and open rainscreen profile.Areas for accommodation and high footfall required to also receive EuroClass B fire treatment.A HomeGrown Larch was selected for this project, having a fair spread of knots and character to be in keeping with its surrounding, a great example of selecting a suitable timber species that fits. Potentially if a timber with a lower knot content, or less defined grain would not have worked as well as this, in these natural surroundings.With English Grown Larch only being classified as slightly/ moderately durable by TRADA, the decision was made to use a high pressure treatment on all of the timber supplied for this project. NORclad Lite preservative treatment was selected, which allows the timber to naturally weather down to the silver grey as you’d expect from timber after being exposed to UV light, the treatment also offers a 30 year warranty against rot & insect attack.

Architects: Orme Architects. NORclad supplied two species for this project both treated with NORclad Brunnea. PEFC-certified European Redwood in A Grade for the majority of the internal timber cladding, 7 different sizes of timbers were supplied from an extensive cutting list to minimise wastage on site, and in areas reduce the requirements for joints between boards. PEFC- certified Canadian Western Red Cedar was also supplied, this timber was used externally on the project, in a number of widths as seen within the images.

Bespoke garage and car port doors from Rundum Meir, which provide natural ventilation and daylighting into enclosed garage spaces, can deliver a seamless aesthetic result in contemporary architecture featuring vertical timber board-on-batten cladding. This is illustrated at the Abode development in Cambridgeshire, where the architects delivered uniformity across different housing styles using a limited palette of materials. Horizontal and vertical cladding was extended into the doors for the car ports manufactured in matching oak. These ventilated doors enable fresh air and daylight to flow through the car ports from the rear gardens, adding an interesting visual dimension.

NORclad supplied almost 1000m2 of the PEFC certified Thermowood for this project back in 2021, a new purpose-built £8m GP surgery in Crediton.Offering residents a much wider range of services than they were able to receive in the town and enables it to cope with a growing population.The official ribbon-cutting opening ceremony at Redlands Primary Care, located on Joseph Locke Way took place in October ’21.A number of areas of the project required the timber to meet EuroClass B, NORclad are able to offer this as a service to the timber, under factory controlled conditions. This allows the timber to be used as soon as it arrives on site.

Cladding in the main is a simple click to install system. Fire Retardant aluminium cladding that looks like real timber. It starts with a simple L shape bracket, a long length of supporting section T shape (like a timber batten); the cladding directly fixes to it. Think rain screen, when you are designing and you won’t go far wrong. Technowood has been here for 30 years and it’s here to stay. Certified FR A2, FSC and certified for Environmental Product Declaration, its also warranted for 20 years.

Architect: Scenario Architecture. This beautiful Victorian villa received an innovative green-roofed extension full of natural light thanks to IDSystems installed bifold doors, gable end glazing, rooflights, window and door. The challenge for Scenario Architecture was to design an extension that was filled full of natural light, took into account the changing floor levels of the property. Under the pitched roof, the gable end glazing has been designed to perfectly match the profiles of the SUNFLEX SF75 bifold doors, whilst the inclusion of a single access door allows the extension to angle away to create a larger kitchen/dining area.

The Ongar Academy Product: NORclad European Redwood with NORclad Brunnea treatment Working closely with the Architects initially, a specification was created utilising a PEFC-certified NORclad® European Redwood. Brunnea treatment was requested to offer a formal warranty on the product for 30 years against rot and fungal decay (out of ground contact), along with a good level of colour stability VS traditional untreated species. Over 19,000/LM was supplied in a square edge 20 x 45mm profile with almost a fifth of the product being fire treated.

Did you know Vincent Timber supplied both these clubs with their cladding and louvres?BurnleyBurnley Football Club's aim with this development was to raise the standard of their training facility to meet the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) Category 1 and 2 standard of infrastructure. Together with Barnfield Construction, they achieved just this.To meet the requirements of the EPPP the build included an indoor area, allowing training to continue through all weathers, complete with a small spectator gallery; as well as multiple developments outside, including three full-sized training pitches and a further two three-quarter size pitches.The new centre was then given a unique finish, clad in four pre-coated, custom colours of Vincent Timber's Thermowood.Thermowood is a versatile timber that serves as internal and external cladding, louvres and even works in saunas thanks to its heat resistant properties.Thermowood is produced by changing the cellular structure of the softwood with a heat treatment making the wood more stable. As a project local to Vincent Timber here in Birmingham, this was quite an exciting one for us. Contractors Design and Build worked alongside architects Piper Whitlock on behalf of Harvest on this stunning, 30-acre regeneration project, which was formerly an industrial site.The project is a joint Sainsbury's and Landsec venture which features 250,000 sq. ft. of retail and leisure buildings. As you may imagine, the large onsite Sainsbury's, erected upon stilts, is an impressive feature building.“It was very exciting working on this large-scale project, especially with the unique solar shading we created. Whilst there is parking for 860 cars onsite, the canal side square connects the site to the centre of Selly Oak, providing easy access for pedestrians and cyclists too. Manhattan Loft Gardens, LondonHaving received the highly regarded RIBA Award for an architectural style which almost defies gravity, Vincent Timber were honoured to supply the beautiful Western Red Cedar that covers the three unique terrace spaces of the Manhattan Loft Gardens. The building was designed to create a community within East London offering 248 rental loft apartments, three rooftop gardens and bars, two restaurants and a beautiful hotel, The Stratford. The building even featured on BBC's The Apprentice with candidates tasked to sell these high-end homes. The stunning gardens are carved out of the building itself with the impressive use of two differing cantilevers. Our timber panelling clads the underside of these overhanging levels whilst helping to bring life to the simply beautiful outdoor space.Spectacular Design Inside & OutDesigned by Skidmore Owings & Merrill for the Manhattan Loft Corporation the spectacular building sits 143m high covering a total of 38,225m². Overlooking the Olympic Park, the building's community helps to keep the vibrancy and creativity of this iconic area alive.With live music and cocktail masterclasses, creative workshops and yoga being just a few of the events here, residents, guests and locals are all invited to enjoy the buzz of the Manhattan Loft Gardens.Thanks to the positioning of the building’s double cantilevers, residents are only ever eight stories from a relaxing open space with unobstructed views across London. The colours fade at different rates which may look unsightly.UV light damages wood because it breaks down the wood’s lignin. Lignin is a component of wood that strengthens the cell walls and holds the fibres together. This process is called photo-oxidation.Technowood doesn’t suffer in the same way. This is because the manufacturing process of the veneer and the resins used to replace the lignin; thus negating the short comings of normal timber.You can’t really stop natural timber from weathering. However, with Technowood you can be assured of consistency.How to avoid water staining on claddingAvoiding water stains on timber cladding is something of a myth. Unless you maintain your cladding almost weekly there will always be indications of water staining. It is a product exposed to the elements and as such will be at least damp for most of the year; therefore will show water staining.Completed in 2012 this project is in Samsun, turkey. Receives full exposure from the sun and heavy rain (don’t think it doesn’t rain in Turkey as it does, it snows too). This project called for Technowood because it would keep the natural colour of the timber for much longer compared to normal timber cladding.Can normal timber cladding be warrantied?Under normal circumstances, you can’t warranty normal timber; unless it has gone through pressure treating or surface treatment that has such a warranty. These warranties are not ambiguous so long as the treatment process is followed to the letter of instruction.“The warranty for Technowood products is 20 years”.Salt Spray TestingSalt spray testing, a practice of checking the corrosion resistance of the surface of materials that have a coating. During salt spray testing, an accelerated corrosive attack is produced in order to measure the performance.
