Metalline Architectural Fabrications

Rainscreen cladding specialists Metalline are the first to use an innovative stone textured finish on their range of CWCT certified Unity rainscreen cladding panels. The finish, which to the naked eye looks like stone is a perfect substitute for natural stone cladding panels and offers a range of cost saving benefits. The use of aluminum also offers the architect more design options. Metalline, who have worked closely with contractors Alumet on a number of capital projects in London presented their new finish to the design team and outlined the huge cost savings that could be achieved by specifying their aluminium Unity rainscreen panel with the new stone textured PPC applied. The external façade when completed will feature over 3000 panels, both flat and curved in stone white and include fittings and bracketry for a unitized system. This ability to mirror a natural finish on aluminium Unity rainscreen panels has led to a number of interesting approaches from developers looking to enhance the external envelope of their project. Metalline’s expertise in fascia finishes extends beyond Polyester Powder Coating applications. Taking advantage of the latest research and development into anodised finishes has seen Metalline engaged by a number of leading architects and contractors to advise and supply fabricated aluminium with an anodised finish whose colour is guaranteed for the life cycle of a building. Available in a full range of Anolok anodising finishes, specifiers are now able to enhance the aesthetic look and feel of a building’s façade in a choice of colours including Natural Silver, Bronzes from light to dark, Regency Gold 1 & 2, Black and specialist Anolok anodising II Blue-Grey and Stone-Grey finishes. The Metalline range of Unity rainscreen panels and Ultima insulated panels are made from solid aluminium and use an A1 rated non – combustible insulation core on their insulated panels to help meet the latest requirements in fire safety.

Carea Façade

Location: Liverpool, UKConstruction type: new buildInstallation system: Wall cladding with backing structure (CWB)Product: SHELLArchitect: Falconer Chester HallCladding specialists, Carea, has delivered a striking stone-coloured facade to the brand new £15 million Hotel Indigo in Liverpool, helping to create a landmark development right in the heart of the city’s financial district. Designed by architects Falconer Chester Hall, managed by Sanguine Hospitalityand built by main contractor Denizen under a design and build contract, the development is part of InterContinental Hotels Group’s newest brand – Hotel Indigo. It is only the fourth of these hotels to open in the UK, but due to the brand’s success will be quickly followed by further developments in Newcastle, Birmingham and two additional London hotels. With a high-profile city centre development, the building’s aesthetics were of vital importance. Located on Chapel Street, one of Liverpool’s seven original streets dating back to 13th Century, the new hotel has been built on the site of a former public guest house. With its historic surroundings, the creation of an exterior for the stunning new six storey build hotel that would blend with the local architecture whilst creating a modern statement was critical.Colours, both external and internal, were specifically selected to draw inspiration from the building’s historical involvement in the cotton trade. Using a combination of glass and stone effect cladding, the facade draws on the building’s past whilst retaining the visually stunning aesthetics that you would expect from a modern, boutique hotel.Specialist contractor Eaga was contracted to install the facade, providing a definitive contrast between the stone cladding and decorative glass frontage. Carea provided a total of 200m² of SHELL cladding, combining two finishes: a stone effect Copacabana and a cladding in the darker grey ‘Basalte’ finish. The combination of colours was used to create a neutral cladding frame to further enhance the stylish multi-coloured glass frontage. Each Carea panel is formed using 90% natural minerals and 10% binding resin to provide the perfect aesthetic solution for both the client and the designer.Installation is quick and simple with the Carea facade system, as each panel is supplied with specialised horizontal rails that fit onto vertical cladding supports. With precisely routed grooves on the top and bottom, the simple fix provides a totally seamless finish to maintain the stunning appearance of the project. This installation greatly assisted with the delivery of the scheme which faced significant logistical challenges due to restricted site within Liverpool city centre.Following the installation of the Carea cladding with subframe system (CWS), the hotel’s stylish facade has helped to ensure it serves as a focal point for the redevelopment of Liverpool’s city centre. Opened in June 2011, and with a durable and stylish exterior, the stunning Hotel Indigo is expected to play an important role in the city’s future.

Carea Façade

Location: Paris, FranceConstruction type: RenovationInstallation system: Wall cladding with backing structure (CWB)Product: SMOOTH MATTArchitect: Carlos OttA vast Heritage improvement project carried out between 2007 and 2009… on the facades of the Opéra Bastille, where 28,000 m² of CAREA® Mineral Composite facing were used to replace the natural stone originally installed when the famous institutional building was erected (the original natural stones were coming away from the building).Combining the aesthetic and technical qualities of natural stone with the recognised performance of mineral composite, CAREA® facing was applied with vertical and horizontal lengthwise joints, in an aluminium subframe cladding (CWS) solution, with the addition of glass wool thermal and acoustic insulation. An essential element of Carlos Ott’s architecture, the new cladding followed the original layout perfectly with the implementation of large facing modules made of CAREA® mineral composite, measuring 90 x 90 cm (thickness of 14 mm and 21 mm for the wall bases).Benefitting from a Technical Approval, fire safety rating for public access building, reVETIR rating ensuring excellent resistance, especially in the lower sections, CAREA® Mineral Composite facing has now been fitted to all the facades of the Opéra Bastille. A specific and extremely damage-resistant version of the CAREA® reinforced tile was designed for the wall bases and installed around the periphery of all the buildings, at a height of 3.00 m. As well as this performance, the cladding allows for easy removal of tags and graffiti. All these factors are greatly appreciated in a heritage preservation context.
Accoya selected for the Bradford Royal Infirmary

Accoya selected for the Bradford Royal Infirmary

Accoya

Accoya was chosen as the project required a striking facade which complimented the existing traditional stone Temple Bank House. Accoya was also selected due to the fact it is low maintenance & provides warmth & natural textures. 15 mm planks were chosen for the cladding to ensure minimum wastage in the manufacturing making it as cost effective as possible. The client was very impressed with how well the cladding cloaks, shields and invites, addressing the road facing elevations and drawing the occupants around the building to its entrance which sits in relief.
