Project at Royal Mail distribution centre to enclose open canopyied area using Anchorwall partition walling (with Flexiwall above) to protect employees from the weather

This fine house was built in the 1920s, one of its features was the unusual ‘chequerboard’ black and white design of the original windows. The clients wished to replicate this, which required selected opening windows to be powder coated in black so as to contrast against the white outer frames. A magnificent 24-pane bay window is a prime feature of the house and shows off this unique design. The clients chose windows from Clement’s EB24 range with rectangular leaded lights. To provide added security, all the windows and doors were fitted with Clement’s multi point locking system.

Occupying an elevated position above the city of Guildford stands this wonderful house, which was built in the early 1900s. Individually designed and constructed to a very high specification, the numerous windows and doors (over three floors) allowed plenty of light to flood into the property and to take advantage of the fantastic surrounding views. Windows from Clement’s EB24 system with rectangular leaded lights were used to replicate the original fenestration. As well as the new windows being in keeping with the character of the property, the multi point locking system chosen by the client brought extra security.

The BriefHillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge, London were undergoing a refurbishment and required additional facilities to help keep their patients, staff and visitors dry and sheltered when arriving and leaving the hospital.The project, which was managed by Kier Construction and Blue Iris Partnerships, included a number of canopies along the entrance to their emergency department where patients and ambulances arrive 24/7.A speedy installation was an important factor, because the hospital had an ever-increasing need for outside cover due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Their staff, patients and visitors had to wait outside more frequently due to the current restrictions in place.The SolutionWhen putting our product forward to the Architect, Kier Construction explained that while our product wasn’t specified, the main features were in fact equal to the specified product and are designed for use in commercial settings, making it the perfect solution.This product is the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy which is an extremely versatile, commercial grade structure that met all the features required by both the Architect and the hospital including: A mono-pitch structure, integral guttering and drainage to the ground floor with no visible gutters, constructed from 100% non-corrosive material (aluminium) and a non-fragile polycarbonate roof system.Even though the Coniston is a wall mounted structure, some of the canopies detailed in this project needed to be free standing as the existing ramp that the canopy would cover is a distance from the wall. This was not an issue as the Coniston can be installed with rear posts transforming it into a free standing canopy.

The refurbishment of platforms is part of Network Rail’s government funded National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP ). The five year programme aims to deliver £179 million worth of station improvements to a minimum of 150 medium sized stations in England and Wales.An overarching objective of the programme is to achieve a noticeable improvement to the passenger perception of stations whilst providing value for money in station investments. Part of this remit involves aspects of customer comfort and safety, including ensuring that the control of surface water runoff is efficiently and effectively managed. For this project Murphy Group were commissioned by Network Rail as the main contractor.Clark-Drain has provided a total of 740m length CD 434 linear drainage channel for installation in three of the station‘s platforms to drain the surface water at a maximum rate of 4.6 l/s into silt box traps before discharge into the mains.The silt boxes work by retaining runoff to allow deposited silt to settle to the bottom of the basket before the water is discharged via the outlet pipe connection. The basket is located so that it is easily removed for periodic cleaning. Both the channels and silt boxes are lightweight and designed for easy handling, installation and maintenance. The bodies of the channel are constructed from recycled hard wearing polypropylene to protect them from damage and ensure long lasting durability. A BS EN 1433 Class B125 quick-fit grating with ‘CatchLock’ retention system provides all the strength required for the 12.5 tonne loading it was designed and tested to withstand and perfectly suits high trafficked station platforms.The narrow-slot ‘heel-guard’ design reduces the potential for tripping and slipping and provides a useful safety feature for passengers and rail staff.The weight of each one meter length, at 5kg, made it very easy to install enabling Murphy Group Engineers to lay several lengths in one go for faster levelling and taking 25% less building time  than heavier polymer concrete options. As part of the aesthetic appeal of the platform refurbishment, the CD 434 was specified because of its flexibility to follow the curve of the platform edge, giving uniformity and enhancing the visual appearance when laid to the same contour.In addition, the linear drainage channel was supplied with 450 x 450mm, 600 x 600mm and 750 x 600mm steel recessed covers and frames. These enabled 60 of the stations lighting cable access chambers to be securely covered and in-fi lled with the marble effect paving specified for the station floor as part of an attractive and functional design for the public to enjoy.WHY THE CD 434 WAS CHOSENLightweight – The one meter length channel and grate is lighter, weighing 5kg, compared to traditional concrete products weighing 20kg or more without being detrimental to its strength for EN1433 B125 loading.Reduced manual handling – Lightweight design and simpler, easier and safer installation provides greater emphasis on health and safety, reducing work related injuries.Easy and quick to install – Installing up to four lengths in one go enables faster levelling, taking 25% less time than traditional polymer concrete.Dual Locking – The Catchlock system simplifies locking of the grating yet enables safe and speedy access for maintenance. The optional anti-tamper bolt locking system provides added security against theft, reducing time and cost spent on replacing lost gratings.Anti-slip and narrow slot finish – Reduces the potential for tripping and slipping, helping to improve public safety.100% recycled – ‘Green’ credentials help toward reducing the carbon foot-print and act as a theft deterrent due to having no intrinsic scrap value.Enhanced durability – Carefully designed load transfer structure improves product life span and lowers maintenance and replacement costs.Heat resistant – The polypropylene/nylon properties make the CD 434 channel ideal for hot tarmac installation.

Used car sales have dominated the automotive market in recent years, and this trend has subsequently boosted BCA ‘s business, creating the need to expand one of their popular auction grounds at Paddock Wood, Kent. Jacksons were approached to supply 56 metres of 2.90m high Barbican® vertical bar fencing in a standard galvanised finish.

The Cooperage is located on a former industrial site in Central London and is believed to have been built in the early 1900s. Following an unsympathetic earlier restoration in the 1990s, Chris Dyson Architects were invited in 2011 to prepare a scheme for the extension and complete renovation of the property, turning it into a spectacular five bedroom family house. Trent is a village and civil parish in northwest Dorset, in the beautiful Yeo Valley. The Trent Conservation Area was designated in February 1970. Many of its structures are listed due to their historical and architectural significance, including Medieval and Tudor buildings.  From 1835 to 1875, Reverend Turner and his wife occupied the village rectory. Together, they built a great number of the buildings that are still in the village today, including the Alms Houses. In 1862, the Turners constructed the National School which was to be for girls and infants. Throughout the years, the National School has seen many changes, including the introduction of boys and the expansion of the buildings. Unsurprisingly, the original metal windows at the school were not fit for purpose and the time came to replace them. This required sensitivity, as it was imperative the new windows looked similar to the originals. The Clement Brooking range was specified because the slim, strong frames could replicate the wonderful shaped heads of the existing windows and they could be fixed directly to stone. The 16mm krypton filled units offer the much-improved thermal performance required and, like all Clement windows, the frames could be fitted with restrictors, essential for safety.Ros Baker, the Deputy Headteacher said: “We are so pleased with the finished result! The transformation the windows have made to our school and local area is fantastic. Many local residents have also commented positively on the ‘new look’ windows. They have been sympathetically upgraded, in keeping with the original school building, and have had a positive impact on our school environment. Furthermore, there was no impact on the staff or the children during the refurbishment.”

City of London Freemens first opened in Brixton in 1854 for ‘the maintenance and the religious and virtuous education of orphans of Freemen of the City of London’. Paid for by the Corporation of London both boys and girls were enrolled from the outset making it the one of the oldest co-educational independent schools.In 1926 the school moved to Ashtead Park in Surrey. The Grade II* listed Main House at Ashtead Park had been the home of Sir Robert Howard, Chancellor of the Exchequer during the 17th century.In 2016 an ambitious development project was commenced, due to span the next decade. The modernisation of the Main House, now the Sixth Form Centre, involved a redesign of the building and the new layout required fire screens to ensure the building met with current Building Regulations. Clement Windows Group supplied the internal fire rated doors and screens at the top of the adjacent internal stairs which are access controlled and linked into the main fire control of the building.

A hugely popular handrail design that ASF have supplied to projects in many locations. The full sized bollards that are used as post uprights give a sense of solidity and permanence, whilst the mitred top gives them just enough of a decorative nature to lift the product beyond a simple post and handrail job. In this project all welds and interfaces were polished back on site so the finished product becomes a complete unit with no visible fixings. With both double and single handrails over multiple flights and angles, this project shows how ASF can manage any project need.

Sheffield based Case Study using the AliDeck Balcony Kit, featuring the Vertical Infill Balustrades

Fresh Wharf is being developed by Countryside, in partnership with housing association Notting Hill Genesis on a 10-acre, former brownfield site situated along the banks of the River Roding. Demolition of old premises on the site started in early 2018 and Phase 1 of the construction project commenced later that year. After this, construction of the new properties commenced in earnest, with the apartment blocks and townhouses being constructed. Installation was undertaken by sub-contractor, Stanmore, with Metsec using Revit to create the construction level design for the framing system at the early stages of the project’s conceptualisation.

A requirement in Corstorphine Wright’s design brief was to avoid horizontal movement joints in the finished façade, which would have been the result had a traditional SFS Infill to concrete frame approach been taken. Working with Willmott Dixon at the early design stages of the contract, Metsec’s in-house design team proposed a continuous walling solution formed from SFS to support glazing and rendered elements that would form the external skin of the façade. Metsec’s solution included the use of fixing cleats to connect the SFS continuous walling to the structure’s concrete frame.

This Aerospace project utilised the whole Troax Commercial Partitioning offer. Utilising our Single Skin and Double skin steel partitioning. Using full steel panels, Steel glass steel panels and steel mesh steel panels, this project truly encapsulated all different bespoke offerings. Troax Lee grid ceilings were also installed on this project and half height partitioning also to section off certain areas.

Stainless steel ward kitchens by GEC Anderson Limited were specified within new ward facilities at Southend Hospital. The units were chosen and specified by Architects, The Livemore Partnership.Stainless steel worktops with integrated sink bowls and mounted on stainless steel base cabinets were included alongside stainless steel wall cabinets and shelving. 

ASF were approached to supply the ASF 3001 Tree Grille and Tree Guard Combination in stainless steel, alongside a range of other stainless steel street furniture products. The grilles were manufactured in grade 316 stainless steel and supplied with a brush polished finish which offers that classic stainless steel sheen whilst being a robust enough finish to minimise marking up and discoloration.

Wapping Hydraulic Power Station has been renovated as part of the Wapping Project Arts Programme.Architects, Grimshaw and Partners specified stainless steel sanitaryware by GEC Anderson in the lavatory areas. Fittings include wall mounted stainless steel wash troughs and stainless steel trough urinals.

Challenge: Many elements of the iconic skyscraper were facing embedded steel corrosion, including the structural steel lattice columns within the colossal terracotta enclosures. The expansion of the steel caused by the corrosion was severely damaging the masonry cladding and cracking the six-foot-tall terracotta bison heads.Strategy: Installation of an impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system at the steel sections with the colonnades on 29th to 32nd floors. The system consisted of LoCem® +point® anode mortar was applied within the bed joints and drilled in to provide 360° protection of the steel surfaces. The bison heads were deconstructed, steel cleaned-up and masonry reconstructed. LoCem® is a low carbon cement alternative (AACM), which can also act as a cathodic protection anode for controlling steel frame corrosion.Outcome: The ICCP system resulted in long-term performance and control for the whole life preservation of our clients’ assets. Using AchillesICP for control over corrosion rate, and AiMS to collect the data, the client had full transparency over structural health and the power to make predictive maintenance decisions.

DWB Hull, a licensed MiTek roof truss and Posi-Joist manufacturer, recently supplied specially designed Posi-Rafters to form the roof for a large domestic extension. Bespoke end details were incorporated into the Posi-Rafter design to make installation straightforward and to provide solid bearings on to the steel beams and walls. The build had two steel ridge purlins and a central steel at ceiling level, forming a large vaulted ceiling internally. Posi-Rafters were the ideal choice, with plated end blocks sitting directly on to the steel beams with no need for hangers.

As part of this refurbishment, we installed our toughened glass Luminoso shower cubicles, specified in a striking blue to complement Boom Cycle’s brand identity and high energy interior design. The full height shower cubicles were manufactured using 10mm clear float toughened glass for the doors, pilasters and division panels and are set on a stainless steel tubular headrail with matching stainless steel pedestal feet. Each cubicle was finished with double swing hinges, which are self-closing from 25 degrees, stainless steel clothes hooks and a stainless steel pull handle towel rail to the outside.

They were hand pump operated via hydraulic cylinders. A further 70+ covers were manufactured in stainless steel to fit 1220 x 1220mm with 50mm and 80mm recesses. The internal HIAC was 600 x 600mm and featured gas spring assistance, 20mm recess for marble and a polished stainless steel top trim.The Roof Hatches supplied were 800 x 900 and 600 x 600mm stainless steel and were fire-rated for up to 2 hours. They were powder-coated RAL 9010. 

Web developers, Mission Communications, were looking to make a positive impact on visitors to their West End offices. Stainless steel specialists, GEC Anderson ,were asked to provide the stainless steel elements, comprising surface, side-panels and shelf components that formed part of the main reception counter. With some imaginative use of lighting as well as glass panes, the result was very creative but also highly professional looking. Behind the main counter were some other stainless steel worktops as well as sinks that formed part of the office tea point and catering facilities.GEC Anderson’s usual EN 1.4301 grade brushed satin stainless steel was used throughout.

The office entertaining and tea point area for office furniture supplier, Steelcase, has benefitted from a new, single-piece, stainless steel worktop, by GEC Anderson. Incorporating two stainless steel sinks, the 4 + metre long, bespoke stainless steel worksurface blends perfectly with its sleek, modern and professional surroundings.The area is under heavy use on a daily basis as well as for evening and weekend events held at the company’s prestigious Farringdon offices.

Stainless steel worktops can often be thought of a ‘modern’ or that they are only suitable in contemporary kitchens. Actually, stainless steel worktops are very much suited to all styles and ages of kitchens and buildings as can be seen in this example.

ASF Max Pave Tree Grilles are a paving infill tree grille, available in any size with any amount of trays. Usually manufactured in heavy duty mild steel and finished galvanised, they are also available in stainless steel

The £7m building project specified steel sheets in the original plans but concerns were soon raised about the potential reverberation and noise from wind, heavy rain and hail causing distress to the animals. In addition to this, the steel sheets would also have been susceptible to corrosion; caused by heat and moisture from the animals’ slightly acidic breath condensing on the relatively cooler underside of the roof. In place of the steel sheets, Eternit fibre cement Profile 6 sheets were chosen.

ASF Manufactured these stunning stainless steel pedestrian guardrails for the Princess Street area of Swansea.Posts manufactured from the ASF 5008 Bollard offer a 114mm diameter upright with a solid machined top. The upright has a satin finish whilst the top is left as machine finished which gives a bright polished look.Panels are from stainless steel tube and uprights from solid stainless steel bar, making this product look great but also be low maintenance, robust and long lasting.

Made-to-measure stainless steel worktops, by GEC Anderson, were recently specified by Munkenbeck and Partners at the highly desirable city space known as 55 Gee Street, Clerkenwell.The funky, new build, mixed-use development comprises offices, shops and six, high-end apartments. Four flats have two bedrooms, a two bedroom duplex occupies ground and basement levels whilst the 150 m penthouse has three bedrooms. Previously the site was occupied by a building belonging to Her Majesty’s Stationery Office.Outside, the distinctive street facade resembles a Jenga block game, made up of extruded airbricks, randomly assembled. The bricks allow natural cross ventilation through the wall without having to make the glass panels move.Inside, the contemporary living spaces are high tech and high quality. The continuous and expansive stainless steel worksurfaces blend-in perfectly within their neutral and effortless surroundings. Park of Poland is one of Europe’s premier holiday centres. Located in Wręcza, around 60 kilometres from Warsaw, the park offers a range of attractions, including an indoor water park, theme parks and other facilities such as hotels, bungalows, office spaces and apartment buildings. Park of Poland was completed at the end of 2019 and is expected to attract millions of visitors each year.Our coatings protect all 4,500 tons of structural steel at Park of Poland and include a high-quality passive fire protection system based on our intumescent coating Hempacore One FD to improve safety for visitors and staff. Applied to the structural steel, Hempacore One FD will expand if exposed to high heat, insulating the steel beneath. In a fire, this will extend the steel’s load-bearing capacity for up to three hours.

Broadleaves, in Boughton, near Ollerton, is the fourth ‘housing with care’ scheme to be opened by Newark and Sherwood District Council. The state-of-the-art scheme has been designed for people aged over 60.There are 30 spacious and accessible apartments designed to meet possible future needs, with features including a wet room and wider doorways.SMART Balustrades were contracted by NMCN to design, manufacture and install their stainless steel balustrade system with oak handrail to 4 stairs as well as 15 stainless steel Juliet balconies, 250m of timber corridor handrails, and a large external terrace with 1600mm high stainless steel balustrade.SMART’s timber balustrade system comes complete with a steel core rail to ensure the balustrades meets the required 0.74kN/m horizontal line load requirements.
