This elegant extension, designed by award-winning practice Chris Dyson Architects, not only significantly increases the footprint of the client’s North London home, but also delivers a uniquely versatile living space for use all year round. The pure scale and the innovative use of glazing for the extension as well as for the new top floor dormer cannot fail to impress, and yet the architectural language reflects the calm, understated style for which Chris Dyson Architects have become acclaimed. Bespoke rooflights, supplied by Glazing Vision, not only flood the ground floor with natural light, but they also help moderate the temperatures throughout the house.The client was seeking to refresh the property by adding an extension to the rear, which would enable the existing ground floor spaces to be connected through a single flowing space, creating a welcoming and flexible environment for hosting their growing family and for entertaining guests.The top floor bedrooms were accessed via a narrow hallway where a small dormer window provided minimal daylight and restricted views of the garden. Creating a living space on this floor where the family could relax and enjoy some downtime was also part of the client’s brief to Chris Dyson Architects.Glazed openings for harmonious integrationThe design for the extension was a solid and robust structure that would integrate harmoniously with the main body of the house and would serve as more than just a “sunroom”. The traditional proportions of the classic orangery have been achieved by Chris Dyson Architects through the use of precast stone columns and five glazed openings, which connect the new internal space with a raised external terrace leading to the rear garden.New internal glazed doors enable the formal dining room and the breakfast room/kitchen to be opened or closed to the main orangery space, providing flexible spatial and acoustic barriers without compromising the natural light entering the entire area.For entertaining and parties the space is ideal, allowing people to freely move between rooms and out onto the garden terrace.Maximising daylight, moderating room temperaturesThe insulated walls and the energy efficient double-glazing of the orangery would serve to keep the space warm in the winter months. In the summer opening the doors would help keep the space comfortable. To further regulate the internal temperature a full width rooflight from Glazing Vision was installed, equipped with sliding elements. Chris Dyson Architects chose Glazing Vision due to the high quality of their products and their ability to create beautiful bespoke solutions.The architects worked closely with Glazing Vision’s specialist CAD designers and technicians to design custom rooflights to meet the exacting requirements of the orangery roof as well as the new glazed dormer.Given the exceptional size of the extension roof, 3320mm x 10900mm, Glazing Vision’s factory precision-engineered a special Dual Sliding Over Fixed Rooflight, comprising 8 sections. The 2 end sections were manufactured to slide over the 6 fixed central sections, traversing in a side-to-side, rather than an up-and-down slope operation.Normally supplied in a RAL7015 slate grey to the exterior and RAL 9010 pure white to the interior, the entire framework of this super-sized Dual Sliding Over Fixed Rooflight was supplied in a bronze finish, which was a key part of the architectural design.With such a complex rooflight, with fixed and sliding sections, a quiet and efficient operation was fundamental to the specification. Electronically controlled at the touch of a button, each of the 2 sliding sections of glazing can be retracted easily, revealing generous openings, and sky-only views. An added safety feature is the manual override should the electronic control system stall.On the top floor the existing narrow hall has been opened up and extended to create a new living space. The bespoke glazed dormer by Glazing Vision provides expansive views across the garden, and an abundance of natural light. A large Bi-parting 1-wall Box Rooflight, measuring 4850mm in the width, was set into the sloping roof. At a total height of 1700mm the rooflight also enhances the feeling of loft in this relaxation area.Supplied in 6 sections, the Glazing Vision Box Rooflight was configured such that the 2 central sections were bi-parting, sliding over 2 adjacent fixed sections. Two additional fixed sections and 2 fixed end panels completed this fully glazed, customised dormer. In order to provide privacy from the neighbouring properties, and conform with Planning Regulations, these end panels were manufactured in satin etched glass.Once the 2 sliding sections are retracted, there is a handsome opening, giving an almost balcony-like effect, and encouraging the user to appreciate the garden vista during the day and to delight in the starry landscape at night. The Glazing Vision Bi-parting 1-wall Box rooflight helps to regulate the temperatures and the air quality throughout this upper floor, allowing copious amounts of fresh air to circulate when it is open. Rain sensors, offered by Glazing Vision as optional extras, were also installed to provide additional security should the weather suddenly turn inclement.Chris Dyson Architects are to be complimented on the sensitive integration of a contemporary orangery in this family home as well as on the bold extension of the top floor. Form and function are in perfect harmony and the Glazing Vision rooflights will ensure that there is an ever-changing canopy to the spaces below!This project was shortlisted for the AJ Specification Awards, in the ‘Doors and Windows’ category.

This wonderful playground is located at the foot of the former St. Petri church in Nordhausen, Thuringia. While the giant slide tower was completed as the first construction phase as early as 2018, the playground has since been expanded with climbing towers, bridges, crawling tunnels, swings and balancing ropes. We wish the children in Nordhausen lots of fun with a wild climbing adventure. The executive planner for this project was our sales representative playconcept Tino Blumer.

SIEGENIA tilt-and-turn window, lift-and-slide and entrance door drives can now be integrated into the TaHoma smart home system from Somfy. This allows users to network SIEGENIA solutions with their existing home control system. The entire home can be automated and conveniently controlled via an app. This creates attractive overall solutions, which significantly contribute to more room comfort and therefore to an oasis of well-being at home.

Balfour Beatty approached Planet Partitioning with a high-performance refurbishment specification for the UK's largest private hospital. For all the patient and treatment rooms, Planet Partitioning used p20 demountable glass partitioning with Eclipse sliding doors. FireStop partitioning ensured that lift lobby partitioning has a fire integrity and insulation rating of EI120/120. Doors for the lift lobby are fire rated for EI 60/60 and steel framed.

Secondary glazing supplied by Granada Secondary Glazing has added greater thermal and acoustic efficiency to an historic converted chapel in the Vale of Glamorgan, delivering 21st century levels of comfort for the building’s occupants and helping to lower energy bills.To provide additional thermal insulation and soundproofing to the original single-glazed windows, a total of 15 Granada Glazing’s Vertical Sliders and two-pane and three-pane Horizontal Sliding Units were installed.

We were delighted to be awarded the tender to complete playground upgrades for Cowbridge and Llanblethian Town Council, in Wales. We installed a new multipaly with a slide, fireman’s pole and a variety of climbing, two new springers, and a basket swing and standard swing. Associated surfacing works, including ground works and new wet pour rubber, were completed at the same time. The council were delighted with the works, giving the park a much needed face lift.

Installation of our MG500 flush glazed sliding folding door system to create an L shaped flexible space over looking London. Panel Profiles powder coated white to match the interior design for the client, with the panel profiles being able to be powder coated to any RAL finish this system is a great option to blend in to any office design. Particularly desirable for office spaces, our MG500 hinged sliding folding glazed wall partitions and glass movable walls offer multiple benefits to your workspace and for your employees. The benefit of the MG500 is that we require no structural support within the ceiling meaning this product can be installed anywhere. Architect: AR Design Studio. Sitting on a steep hillside overlooking the River Avon on the Hampshire and Dorset border, Folding House is a stunning three-storey contemporary home that feature six sets of IDSystems' theEDGE2.0 narrow framed aluminium sliding doors. The sloping site provided the inspiration for the design, with the lower two storeys embedded into the hill side, minimising the impact of the home on its surroundings and allowing the structure to nestle within the established woodland that encloses the property.

Architect: Harvey Norman Architects. Having returned home after years of working abroad the owners of this 1970s house chose to extend the property to make better use of the internal space and to breakdown the divide between the house and the garden. The design centred on a single storey pitched roof extension with large IDSystems' theEDGE2.0 sliding doors and fixed frame gable end glazing that transformed the layout of the home, creating a large open plan living space that included a kitchen, dining and lounge space.

Architect: HAUS. TrägerHAUS is an incredible cantilever home on the edge of Glasgow. The property is truly unique and features six sets of theEDGE2.0 sliding doors that enable the house to enjoy spectacular views over the Cathcart Castle Golf Club. Designed by HAUS and built by Interspan, the contemporary home was named as one of the top 100 houses in Scotland by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and features five bedrooms and a large open plan living space that all look out over the course.

Luxury boutique hotel Sir Joan, located in Ibiza Town, houses 12 hotel rooms and 2 rooftop suites with private pools and stunning views of the port of Ibiza. The black and white façade combines traditional and current Ibizan architecture. The openings in the façade offer privacy to guests and create natural ventilation and lighting. This stunning aesthetic was achieved using Reynaers CF 77 and CP 155(-LS) sliding and folding door systems, and CS 68 aluminium window systems.

We were delighted to complete this project for Worthing district council in Sussex, in the summer of 2023. Showcasing our Spiel Bau range of equipment, we installed a beautiful stainless steel multiplay structure, and stainless steel aerial runway. Fun colour combine with excellent play features, with the Mikado tower’s nets, slides, climbing walls and bridges giving children hours of endless fun. We surfaced the area with black with blue fleck wet pour rubber flooring.

Senior’s Ali FOLD sliding folding doors have been installed at a private home in Leeds, West Yorkshire, to enhance the renovation of the kitchen and living space.The homeowners chose to install Ali FOLD doors because of their attractive sleek appearance with slim sightlines which let in maximum daylight.With a vast choice of colours available via Senior’s in-house powder coating facility, the owners were also able to choose a colour which complemented their internal décor, adding to the overall colour scheme.The new Ali FOLD doors have transformed the living space, bathing the interior with light and providing uninterrupted views of the garden that can be enjoyed both day and night.The homeowners have been particularly impressed with how easy the doors are to open and by the flexibility of being able to open one or multiple door leaves depending on the desired level of access.Ali FOLD’s exceptional thermal performance has also delighted the couple, helping to retain heat and giving the renovated room a homely cosy feel. With a life expectancy in excess of 40 years, Senior’s Ali FOLD aluminium doors have been designed to be easy to fabricate, install and maintain and are available as a folding sliding bi-fold style as well as both single and double doors.

Twin Rundum Original ‘round the corner’ side sliding doors have been manufactured and installed by bespoke garage door specialist Rundum Meir UK as part of the North Quay development in Hayle, Cornwall.Their vision for North Quay is to transform a former industrial area into an exciting new coastal quarter for people to live, work, shop, eat, stay and enjoy the stunning waterside location. Key to this is high quality design by which has already been independently recognised through the project winning in the 2020 Housing Design Awards.Within the first phase of the transformational project, which includes around 140 dwellings and public realm development by FCBStudios, as well as office space and waterside commercial buildings, are two residential units with garages. Rundum Meir was approached to explore the potential for twin bespoke doors with radiused corners at their adjacent edge which would make a statement feature of the garage doors. This design was perfectly suited to the Rundum Original, which slides along a track as it opens sideways before turning a corner to run along an inner side wall of the garage. Equally important, however, was the ability to manufacture the garage door in materials that would enable aesthetic goals to be achieved whilst being suitable for the harsh coastal conditions, dominated by an aggressive saline atmosphere.Rundum Meir was able to use Accoya for the timber slats that make up each of the doors. Accoya is ideal for conditions of this kind, and for meeting the project’s sustainability aims, given its superior durability and FSC accreditation.Marine grade stainless steel was used to create the U-channels which guide the Rundum Original as it slides, along with the PPC tracks and binding. This will ensure the key mechanical elements of the two doors have maximum resistance to corrosion for a long design life.In line with the high specification of all the dwellings under construction, the Rundum Meir garage doors are also automated. A door-mounted motor is activated via a remote control device and it is HomeLink compatible for safe and secure operation from inside a vehicle.

Architects: Loyn + Co Set in a stunning location in the heart of the Welsh rolling countryside and valleys, Vila Mir is a contemporary new-build home that features large sliding doors and windows to maximise light and to breakdown the boundaries between the house and its surroundings. Designed by the award-winning Loyn + Co the project was shortlisted for the Wales Gold Medal for Architecture 2018 and sits within mature gardens on a sloping site. A central rendered chimney helps divide the structure of the house with the ground floor of the property built into the side of the slope.

Kestrel Aluminium Systems worked closely with Axis Automatic Entrance Systems to ensure the successful delivery of their part of the refurbishment project of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The contract saw the installation of over 200 doorsets into the new hospital building, the design of which had been inspired by children associated with the hospital. Alder Hey is the first hospital in Europe to have sliding glass doors on every room and Axis Automatic needed a new section to help achieve this ambitious plan. Kestrel assisted by designing a new header section for the project.

Architect: Waugh Thistleton Architects. Maximising the location and view in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty was key to this redevelopment and new-build on the North Norfolk coast. The site contained a 1950s houses and outbuildings that were out of keeping with the area, and so in its place the owners were granted permission to build a sustainable, low-energy new-build family home, clad in locally sourced timber and stone, and including IDSystems' theEDGE2.0 ultra-slim sliding doors to make the most of the stunning view over the salt marshes and estuary.

Architect: Simon Gill Architects. The brief for this project in Putney was to modernise the ground floor of this red-brick detached house, create a larger dining room and better connect the inside of the home with the garden. The end result is a complete transformation. Gone are the compressed spaces and smaller rooms and in their place is a large open-plan living area with seamless connection between the lounge, kitchen and dining room. These open plan spaces are filled with natural light thanks to a combination of Grand Slider II sliding doors and huge fixed frame picture windows.

Architect: Selencky///Parsons. Transforming this tired old 1930s semi-detached house in South London whilst living in it with a young family was the challenge for this homeowner. The end result is a stunning light filled home with more than fifty percent more floor space and panoramic views over London. The design, by Selencky///Parsons architects called for a complete modernisation of the home and the addition of a ground floor extension featuring a three-panel theEDGE2.0 ultra-slim sliding door system and loft conversion to increase usable space for the family.

The waiting room at Houton Pier on The Mainland of the Orkney Islands was cold and draughty due to a weather-damaged door opening directly into the waiting area. An extension was built to create a weather break and fitted with record FTA 20 automatic folding doors which minimise the time the door is open to the elements but still provides good access. The doors are activated by a radar presence sensor for two way traffic. The old door was also replaced with a THERMCORD sliding door with energy efficient core panels to further reduce the ingress of cold air.

A Rundum Original side sliding garage door has enabled a client in Yorkshire to apply a non-standard shape to their new garage to maximise the footprint and provide the largest area of usable internal space with easy vehicular access. The angle of the boundary of the Victorian house presented an opportunity during a refurbishment project to remodel the garage. By aligning the front elevation of the garage with the house, vehicular access could be improved. The design required a door that could comfortably handle a right angle corner followed by an obtuse angle along the garage's side wall.

Double and triple track AluK sliding doors and windows form a key element in an award-winning residential development on Old Ford Road, alongside London’s Hertford Union Canal and overlooking Victoria Park. Three houses, three duplexes and two flats have replaced derelict storage structures on a tight, 465m2 triangular site developed by Earth Residential. The geometric design, by architects pH+ Architects, echoes both the industrial wharf buildings which characterise the canal side and the Georgian terraces which surround the park.

As a high end jewellery store, both security and a clean and sleek look, were priorities for the entrance.Solution:FAAC Entrance Solutions installed the SL500 Transparent sliding door four panel system and finished the operator cover in a 50% gloss Light Bronze RAL Finish. The pocket screens were replaced by flush mounted EN16005 compliant safety presence detecting sensors which together with the 10.8mm glass and a dotted manifestation, contributed to an elegant yet safe entrance. With energy prices soaring, it was also important to come up with an efficient solution which maximised heat retention within the building.Solution: We successfully designed, manufactured and installed a 4 panel bi-parting SL500 fully framed system in matching Terra Brown finish, resulting in a seamless integration within the building. To mitigate operational issues & improve safety features - due to close proximity of internal swing doors - we supplied and installed clear glazed barriers and removed several potential risk factors during the design process. We designed, supplied, installed, and surfaced this new playground in East London, with the project completing in December 2023. The customer was looking for strong, durable, and attractive looking equipment, and our stainless steel range from Spiel Bau was perfect for the requirement. Spiel Bau equipment comes with lifetime guarantees on stainless steel elements, and has been designed to provide excitement and challenge for children of all ages.The centrepiece unit, the Beeskow multiplay, features two decks linked by an inclined rope bridge, monkey bars, a fireman’s pole, traditional slide, rail slide, and an overhanging climbing wall. The stainless steel uprights combined with hardwood robinia decking and panelling gives a beautiful, architectural finish. The large size and wide variety of play features ensures a high number of children can use the structure at any one time, making it a great piece for parks in high use areas such as this.The multiplay was complimented by two stainless steel climbing frames, the first a crow’s nest look out tower and the second an linear, obstacle course style structure. A stainless steel rope end swing, Stainless Steel seesaw, Zip Wire, and two springers rounded off the equipment, all of which was surfaced by our inhouse surfacing teams with black and green fleck wet pour rubber. We loved working on this project, introducing high quality equipment and surfacing to a park in much need of redevelopment.

Radii designed, manufactured and installed solutions for 71 offices and meeting rooms across Baker Botts’ new 27,000 sq ft space.The standout contribution to this project was the installation of stunning curved glazed screens for the executive meeting rooms. Using a Parallel 50 double glazed system with angled façade abutments, the luxurious design was accompanied with acoustic blank 64mm veneered timber doors, achieving 40dB Rw, and flush bonded Align glazed pivoting doors.Baker Botts’ office fronts comprised of Linear 59 single glazed partitions with adjoining Radii Glide sliding doors and bespoke drywall endcaps. Concealed deflection heads helped to create a flush look with clean lines, while a special bronze finish — applied to the metalwork at Radii’s dedicated in-house powder coating line — complemented the colour palette throughout the space.For small-to-medium size meeting rooms Linear 30 and Linear 64 single glazing, both offering 41dB Rw, were used alongside Parallel 50  fins, Glide glazed sliding doors and Align pivoting doors. All meeting rooms for Baker Botts were installed with retro-fit room booking, facilitated with cable routes provided down the door legs.Finally, Linear 25 single glazed partitioning was placed alongside single glazed Hogan door sets with access controls in Baker Botts’ lift lobby.

Granada Glazing has treated Hallamshire hospital’s stroke unit in Sheffield with a bespoke secondary glazing solution that provides acoustic, thermal and privacy benefits for patients accessing the city centre facility.Working to locally based JTP Architects’ specification, Granada Glazing designed, manufactured and installed horizontal sliding secondary glazing units, finished in white, in two, three and four-panel configurations to line up with the primary windows. Low-E glass was supplied to enhance thermal performance and achieve a 1.9W/m2K centre pane U-value.

As part of their expansion, The Wild Place Project (Bristol Zoo Network) enlisted our help in the construction of their new Giraffe Enclosure. The £1m purpose-built giraffe home was constructed over 1.8 acres and needed bespoke doors to suit the needs of the giraffes. HAG designed special doors in-house; the doors needed to be sliding to allow easy access for the zoo keepers, insulated and, obviously, rather tall to accommodate the giraffes comfortably! The giraffe enclosure has been a huge success with the public and HAG truly enjoyed being part of such a unique project.

Much of it built in the early 20th century, Islington Square is the transformation of the Royal Mail’s North London Mail Centre. The 4.5 acre complex features a breathtaking development characterised by three statement residential buildings. Islington Square is a love letter to the original great post office buildings.With debonair charm and à la mode finishes within each of the apartments, new life has been breathed into this Edwardian-meets-21st-century development. Majestic were invited to supply Ponente and Rio screens as well as fully recessed Odessa sliding doors.

The goal for this residential dwelling in Salcombe was to create a completely unique space, nestled into the cliff-side to provide a feeling of comfort and seclusion, while maximising the views over the estuary. To achieve this, ten Reynaers aluminium lift-and-slide doors, alongside aluminium windows and single-entrance doors were installed. The aluminium frames provide the strength and stability required for large expanses of glazing, while delivering required pascal ratings to resolutely stand up to enduring winds and harsh coastal conditions. WMOR Architects completely redesigned the ground floor to include a flexible living area to open into the garden. Accoya was chosen as the ideal material for the extension because of it aesthetic appearance as well as its ability to provide better insulation than other materials. & the owners wanted to use the most sustainable material they could. The Accoya extension which houses the show piece kitchen will be left to weather naturally and match the pale grey flooring. This was specifically designed so that in the summer, when the sliding door completely opens, the interior & exterior space will merge seamlessly.

Arden Windows are proud to be involved in the £4.5 million refurbishment of Grade II listed building Levita House. Working with Mitre Construction and London Borough of Camden. Arden Windows will be commencing the first phase of window replacement works commencing October 2020 on a supply and installation basis. A further 2 phases are contracted and will follow in early 2021. The windows designed by Arden are bespoke solutions for both casement and sliding sash designed by Arden to meet both modern specification requirements and the design aesthetics needed for such an important listed project such as Levita House
