The homeowner knew that in order to maximise that amount natural sunlight for their single storey extension that the addition of rooflights would be an ideal solution, however they wanted something different.The SolutionOur clients had decided that they did not want dark corners in their extension, and we provided two bespoke rooflights, to fit the corners of the flat roof. Our bespoke shaped fixed skylights fitted the bill perfectly - one bespoke rooflight was a unique four sided non-standard rooflight, the other was a unique five sided non-standard rooflight. This Hotel is a 73 bed seafront Travelodge Hotel that was developed as part of Denbighshire County Council’s Waterfront Regeneration programme for Rhyl. Constructed on the site of the East Parade car park near the former Sun Centre, the three-storey timber-framed hotel has a render finish. It includes four accessible rooms, a ground floor reception, a bar, a breakfast restaurant area, and an onsite car park. This is the first hotel at Rhyl Beach, the company’s 576th Travelodge, and the company’s 27th hotel in Wales.Cellecta DECKfon 26T was specified by Ion Developments due to it being the ideal acoustic overlay treatment to improve the performance of the original structural timber decked floor. The tongue and groove on the floorboard make it quick and easy to install, saving time and money.Wynne Construction was awarded this 1,400m² contract to construct this hotel in North Wales.

Spring Boroughs is a development of 34 new affordable homes, comprising of 2 and 3 bed houses and a retail unit. Originally a scheme comprising of 18 homes off Little Cross Street, this development went under a full review to secure more sites and increase the development, including the relocation of a retail unit. The East Slope Student Village is a development of 32 buildings of three to six storey flats and three to four storey town houses accommodating 2,113 beds for students at the University of Sussex. Demolition of existing buildings commenced for the redevelopment of a lightweight steel frame mixed-use facility which includes a kitchen, student hub and retail space. Due to the steep slope of the site, a 30,000m³ of bulk excavation was required and buildings were arranged in linear blocks. The BREEAM Excellent rated development was designed to blend with the existing Sir Basil Spence campus and includes grassland as an environmental impact measure.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 28 was specified by Pascall+Watson due to its excellent impact and airborne acoustic performance. ScreedBoard was recognised in the housebuilder awards and took home the winner’s award for ‘best internal/interior product’.Balfour Beatty was awarded this 30,000m² contract for this student accommodation in Sussex.

Challenge: The structure was had severe structural degradation due to the ingress of moisture and water over its near 100-year life. Corrosion to the steelframe resulted in tensile forces cracking and moving the brick skin, also causing a cracked façade. Strategy: ICCP was used as a method to control corrosion whilst the cracking and movement were repaired. This involved LoCem® and +point® AACM anode mortar to be grouted in the bed joints, alongside embedded corrosion rate sensors for service life tracking (AchillesICP and AiMS). LoCem® is a low carbon cement alternative, that can also act as a cathodic protection anode. Outcome: The structure was restored to be used as high-value residential apartments, saving tonnes of embodied carbon and eliminated the option of demolition. The embedded system successfully controlled and monitored corrosion for the long term, adding an additional 100 years to the structure’s service life.

The Gresham Aparthotel is a luxurious refurbishment of the old Fenwicks Store into 121 one and two bed apartments and studios, spread over four floors. There is also a rooftop bar and a gym featured in the hotel. Rooms can be accessed via a lift or via the staircase - which is the original staircase and includes all the original handrails and balustrades. The iconic building was created in the 1800s by local architect Isaac Barradale for Joseph Johnsons, a local draper. In 1962, it was taken over by retailer Fenwick, which occupied the site until its closure in March 2017.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 28 was specified by RG+P Architects due to its unrivalled acoustic performance and its installation convenience due to interlocking edges. ScreedBoard 28 is frequently viewed as the solution of choice for new build and refurbishment developments.Cube Construction was awarded this 2,000m² contract to construct this refurbishment in Leicester.

Newham Hospital provides all the services expected of a local hospital including emergency care, surgery, children’s health, women’s health, maternity services, specialist medicine, long-term care and diagnostics.They see more than 500 patients in their A&E department every day and have one of the largest maternity units in the UK with more than 6,000 births each year. Their state-of-the-art Rainbow Centre is fully geared up to meet the needs of their young patients and their families in a child-friendly environment and are dementia friendly across the whole site.This project was a conversion of the first floor office space to form a 24 bed ward at this busy London Hospital.The client chose Dfendoors in American White Oak and Peppermint to create a really effective contrasting finish.This was cleverly matched with the Dfend wall protection products.

Bridgewood House Care Home is a 70 bed residential and nursing home in Enfield. MKM Building Supplies, the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant and Martin Dixon Ltd, Building Services Specialists were contracted to provide bathroom solutions for the property.The challenge was to provide suitable washroom products for the care home before for the grand opening so quick delivery and installation were imperative. The goal was to source reliable, cost-effective products that were suitable for the residents.Our specifications team discussed requirements and budget with the client. We recommended our Mirage Concealed Cistern with Dimple Lever designed for the less able enabling easy flush. The Challenge To install an attractive retaining wall solution that complements the beautiful landscaping. Richmond Care Village in Evesham comprises of a 60-bed care home for nursing and dementia care, 46 assisted living suites and 61 independent living apartments. The development is designed within the Richmond Care Villages model of luxury retirement accommodation and includes facilities such as a bar, restaurants, library, wellness spa with pool and gym all set in beautifully landscaped grounds. This luxury retirement village needed a retaining wall with considerable aesthetic appeal. The landscape design was carefully formulated to make a major commitment to the restoration and conservation of the landscape on the original Wood Norton estate. Groundworker R O’Donaghey was tasked with proposing a retention solution that could facilitate curves, corners, stepping down and railings. The project team had considered Gabion Baskets but decided that they would detract from the beautiful surrounding landscaping.

The Garscube is described as an ‘urban barn’; with a low slung fibre cement slate pitched roof intended to be sympathetic to the character of neighbouring properties. The building sports a single homogenous fibre cement slate skin to form both walls and roof alongside generous window openings.

Working with big global brands to produce video content, RD Content is a busy agency based in Covent Garden. When it came to moving into their new office, the company decided to leave nothing to chance, and instead made sure every single element was designed by them.

IKO Polymeric, SIG Design & Technology, and Excel Roofing Services have collaborated to design, supply and install 250m2 of single ply roofing for the new kiosk, glass covered beach walkways and stores which houses the latest Oceanarium residents, ten Humboldt Penguins.

Birkdale fibre cement slates was chosen as the perfect answer to fulfil part of a complex and challenging rainscreen design. The new single storey training centre, consists of a fully grassed roof with ‘basket weave’ Birkdale slates used as a form of a raked rainscreen cladding to elevate the building.

Resopal Hickory and Silver Oak Woodgrain were selected for this project to give warmth and character to four single room new build/refubishments. The two tone composition of the stroage wall added depth and scale to the whole space, giving it a welcome feel and a sense of 'accommodation' than being 'hospital-like'.

The £25 million redevelopment of the hospital includes a new emergency department. Working alongside our clients Willmott Dixon Interiors Ltd, GDL were appointed to manufacture and supply the Acoustic Louvres and the Clip-on Louvre screening as part of the 23 hour assessment and A&E refurbishment. Our acoustic Louvres are designed to attenuate medium and high frequency noise breakouts from ductwork and plant room openings and were selected for the existing plant area along Pond Street. This product can be manufactured to suit any bespoke size requirements and is available in single bank or for higher levels of attenuation, double bank.  Our Louvre screening can be located at basement, ground, mid or roof level and can be fixed in a conventional 45º angle or inverted depending on the privacy requirements of the designers and architects. We can also supply single or double leaf doors providing secure access to the screened areas. 

A brand new, state of the art Oncology Unit had been proposed for Southampton General Hospital, to become a flagship facility for the area. Designed to house 27 dedicated beds, cutting edge treatment rooms and medical equipment, the new Oncology Unit would provide life-saving treatment for cancer patients and essential support services to the locality.With works originally scheduled to commence during the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHS Trust Estates Team worked closely with Garland UK and all contractors to speed up the construction as safely as possible, to ensure the vital facilities were available at the earliest convenience.From the outset, Southampton General clearly outlined their future intentions to increase the capacity of the Oncology Unit, and fully utilise the inverted roof design by adding extra stories of ward space.As an essential part of Garland’s brief, the unique design intentions for the building had to be factored in and the rooftop waterproofing system required careful planning.

Wexham Park Hospital, an acute NHS hospital situated near Slough in Berkshire is protected by a network of 20 MxPro 5 fire panels.The 588-bed hospital is one of three managed by Frimley Health NHS Foundation trust, one of the top performing NHS trusts in the United Kingdom. As well as the main hospital building, the site has a large post graduate building, ambulance station, staff accommodation and a new £49 million, state-of-the-art, four-story Emergency Assessment Center. Responsible for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the system was Advanced’s partner, Static Systems Group.In addition to the MxPro 5 panels, the system also comprises 18 MxPro 5 repeater panels and 2,000 Apollo field devices which are installed in a number of hospital buildings and departments including Intensive Care, Sterile Services, Radiology and its new 9,300 sq. meters Emergency Assessment Center.

Foxley Lane is a redevelopment of a former residential care home on a prominent corner plot west of Purley town centre in a prime position on one of West Purley’s premier roads. This development comprises of a five-storey building with fifty-seven exquisite one, two and three bed apartments located within a mile of Purley mainline station. All with parking and a private balcony or patio, it also features white rendered façades and prominent gabled elevations, significantly enhancing the Foxley Lane street scene.Cellecta’s Mojave S2-8 was specified by OB Architecture as it offers a dry and robust floor build up from one source. Mojave S2-8 is a high-performance underfloor heating system which performs at a low flow temperature. XFLO-FF boards are manufactured to suit the pipe diameter and spacing required to achieve the desired thermal output.HQ Homes were awarded this 530m² contract to construct this redevelopment.

In 2020, Paul Dow Joinery approached us to create the kits for a two 5 bed house luxury development he was undertaking in Burntisland. The client wished to create energy efficient, large open-plan house's with wrap around balconies and large glass expanses to allow lots of solar gain but also draw attention to the amazing view of the River Forth right across to Edinburgh.Fast forward to July 2023 and we've only been on site for 4 days and look at the headway that has been made on the first property. The ground and first level are almost complete and ready for the roof. The client has opted for a large glazed roof panel to allow light through the mezzanine level down to the ground level.The houses will promote various renewable's including an air source heat pump, underfloor heating, solar panels and triple glazing to compliment the high level of air tightness provided by the SIPS system.

Combining contemporary aesthetics with exceptional performance, an array of solutions from Forbo Flooring Systems' portfolio have been installed throughout the state-of-the-art Cancer Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH). Designed by Ryder Architecture, the facility brings patient experience to the fore, where the integrated flooring scheme seamlessly guides users through the building. The prestigious project took home the winner's accolade in the 2020/21 annual Fly Forbo competition. An extension of the main hospital, the Cancer Centre at MKUH brings together all of the cancer services under one roof, which were previously provided from three separate locations on the hospital site. Split over two floors the £15 million dedicated to the facility offers a 24-bed inpatient ward, outpatient consultation rooms, procedure and specialist treatment rooms, a chemotherapy suite, alongside a wellbeing support service.

The appearance of the current cladding was in need of improvement and with the client requiring a specific colour, IKO were approached. We were invited by Kier to come up with a new way of doing things for the Service Riser flooring on phase one of the Perry Barr Residential Scheme in Birmingham last year. When complete, the scheme will provide 1,400 much-needed new homes for Birmingham. Part of a much wider project, it will also act as a catalyst for circa. 5,000 new homes and wider regeneration in the north west of the city – including improved leisure and community facilities along with upgraded transport infrastructure. Phase one includes a mix of one and two-bed apartments and three and four-bed houses, an ‘extra care’-type facility providing housing, a variety of services for the older community and areas of public space, as well as private courtyards and amenity spaces.For the apartment blocks, 120 GRP Riser Floors were required but, rather than us installing them after the floors were poured, they needed to be cast in by the contractors responsible for the concrete.There are advantages to doing it this way:You avoid having riser voids in the floor that people or equipment can fall down and you don’t need the fencing on site to protect them – 25% of workplace fatalities are due to falls from height, 13% are caused by falling/moving objectsThe risers are done by the flooring contractor at the pace they set (usually earlier in the process than a ‘retro’ fit), so no co-ordinating of teams from different organisations meaning fewer delaysBecause the modular riser units were all constructed at our premises in Suffolk, there were no extra teams working around each other while cutting and building on the siteThe steel industry has been providing the profiles for this for a while but, if you wanted to use a complete low-maintenance GRP solution, it hasn’t been possible.
