PORTLAND JAPANESE GARDEN PORTLAND, USA

GROHE Ltd

Portland Japanese Garden in Oregon is an oasis of tranquility – and cross-cultural respect and understanding, attracting thousands of visitors each year. It is considered to be one of the most authentic such gardens outside of Japan, and is made up of eight settings, including stepping stones leading to a traditional tea house and a stream and waterfall. In 2017 a cultural village was added to the site, part of the Cultural Crossing project aimed at increasing understanding between Japanese and American culture. Part of the concept was to use partner brands which embodied the bridging of the gap between America and Japan, and for this GROHE's parent company LIXIL was a perfect fit. GROHE products were donated for the staff showers at the Garden, with the sleek modern lines of the New Tempesta Cosmopolitan 100 shower head helping wash away the stress of a hard day’s gardening. The shower’s reduced flow rate also ties in to the sustainability of water that must be close to every gardener’s heart.Architect: Kengo Kuma and Associateskkaa.co.jpProject address611 SW Kingston AveOR 97205 Portland, USADate of completion: 2017

InterLace

InterLace worked very closely with the architect and client to work out the interior furnishing scheme for this new accommodation building in the heart of Cambridge. The curved design of the building meant that virtually every curtain track had to be installed to the curve radius. The Wave curtain heading makes for easy curtain removal and laundering. The ensuite bathrooms were installed with the Movatrack shower track system, and waterproof roller blinds. On the top floor of the building, the Fellows Sets were installed with very high quality curtains to reflect the prestigious nature of these residences. The project was completed very successfully and has been a model for similar projects elsewhere in the city.

PARIS, FRANCETHE WHITE FACADE OF THE BUILDING WAS ERECTED IN 1926 AND REVISITED BY BDVA ARCHITECTS.Guests love this four-star hotel in Paris due to its soulsoothing aesthetics in champagne, gold and moleskin shades. The design was partially inspired by the decora - tive elements of a tsuba, the guard at the end of a tradi - tional Japanese sword. Another thread in the interior design is elegant Parisian art deco. “Tsuba is a search for harmony and refinement in which graphic and ornamen - tal lines are brought together,“ says Views Architecture Intérieure. The GROHE Atrio line, which adheres to the Bauhaus principle of “form follows function,” harmonises with the pure elegance of Le Tsuba Hotel. The clear lines of basic shapes are coupled with leading-edge GROHE technology. The GROHE Rainshower Cosmopolitan head shower is a further ornamental highlight in the interior. With the O2 spray pattern, which is like a stream of natural rain enriched with air, it creates a velvety fine showering experience in the Paris design hotel.Date of completion: 2016Architect: BDVA Architectes, Paris, France

SWISS BUSINESS HOTEL CHOOSES KEUCO FOR EXCLUSIVE BATHROOM FURNISHINGS

SWISS BUSINESS HOTEL CHOOSES KEUCO FOR EXCLUSIVE BATHROOM FURNISHINGS

KEUCO

The incomparable charm of the Best Western Premier Hotel Beaulac in French Switzerland can be traced back to the famous architect, Le Corbusier. In 1994 the hotel underwent expansion. Following renovations until 2011 on the original section, the annex with its 45 rooms was also renovated. In addition to suites with their own area for smaller conferences or meetings, guests on the ground floor can enjoy the unique view of Lake Neuchâtel, the adjacent harbour and the Alps from large private terraces adjoining their rooms. From the rooms on the uppermost floor one can look down on the historical old city of Neuchâtel. Domiciled in the canton Neuchâtel are some traditional watchmaker towns listed as UNESCO cultural heritage sites, as well as pharmaceutical and tobacco firms.During the hotel’s modernisation, interior designer and architect Manfred Ronstedt successfully created a pleasant living environment, through carefully chosen interiors. Here, usability for guests was not to be forgotten. The accessories and fittings from KEUCO impress by perfectly uniting design with stylish comfort. Gleaming chrome finishes underscore the noble ambience of the refined interior architecture of the hotel. This 4-star business hotel of the Best Western Group is situated directly at Lake Neuchâtel, not far from the historical city centre of Neuchâtel. With the natural materials and gentle colours, the unique location and the wonderful natural setting of the area acted as inspiration for the design of the high quality furnishings in the rooms and suites. Wood and colours such as sand, truffle, gold and brown dominate the room design. Whilst selecting the products, Manfred Ronstedt of Ronstedt hotel concepts placed strong emphasis on the timeless elegance: "The accessories and fittings from KEUCO harmonise perfectly with the design concept of the hotel rooms – a modern ambience of well-being.“The exclusive bathroom furnishings include generously-sized showers, and some also have a bath tub. Some rooms also offer a separate WC. Ample space for setting things down at the washbasin and carefully selected KEUCO accessories from the Moll collection allow things to be comfortably organised. The straight lines and sensuous curves of the fittings harmonise perfectly with the inviting furnishings. A cosmetic mirror and a large towel holder as well as a noble sponge wire basket and handholds in the wet area underscore the comfort and high-quality touch of each bathroom. A large head shower and the additional hand shower transform showering into a spa-like experience.

Visitors have never had it so good!

Rada

Shower cubicles at the 100 pitch Thames side park have recently been completely upgraded and, as Andrew Townsend, a partner in the business explains, Bridge Villa aims to offer visitor’s a high quality caravanning or camping experience.“Caravanner’s invest significant amounts of money in their ‘vans and towing vehicles and we were aware that visitors to our site expect on site facilities to reflect their investment. In our opinion, it is only right that the facilities at the sites they visit should be first rate and the washrooms always make the first impression,” he explains. The owner’s took the decision to completely upgrade the two storey washroom and toilet block at the site and opted to install Rada Sense digitally controlled showers that provide no touch water flow and temperature control while also offering the maintenance team a range of easy to perform service functions. In total there are 12 Rada Sense units in the shower block and as well as producing an aesthetically pleasing look, the user response has been very positive. The showers bring a very modern look to the washrooms with their chrome plated control panels which are supported by a range of high quality fittings. As Roy Minett, Commercial Marketing Manager of Kohler Mira explains, with its T-logic digital intelligence, Rada Sense is smarter, safer and more hygienic than any other tap/shower control on the market and satisfies a range of issues addressed by The Health and Safety Commission’s ‘Approved Code of Practice L8’.“Rada Sense is not an ordinary ‘no-touch’ tap because not only does it allow the user to initiate water flow, it also allows the selection of the water temperature without touching the panel,” he explains. “For safety, precise maximum and minimum water temperatures and flow times can be pre-set using a remote hand held computer and these settings are maintained even if there are water pressure or temperature fluctuations.“The Rada Sense digital mixing valve also incorporates an intelligent ‘duty flush’ feature that monitors the time since the outlet was last used. If it has not been used for a pre-determined time (say 24 hours) the appliance is automatically flushed through at a safe temperature to clear water that may have been stagnant in the pipe work or, more importantly, in any dead legs,” he adds. This feature is particularly relevant to site’s such as Bridge Villa where, in order to maintain best practice in the water supply system, regular flushing of the showers to prevent potential legionella and bacteria problems developing within the hot water system dead legs must be undertaken. This can be both time consuming and labour intensive if undertaken manually.“The Health and Safety Commission’s ‘AcoP L8’ also recommends routine thermal disinfection as a means of preventing or controlling legionella," explains Roy Minett. “With Rada Sense this can be achieved by activating its thermal disinfection mode which – under supervision – allows hot water at a temperature of at least 60°C to be flushed through the electronic mixing valve and all outlet pipe-work. Of course this is simply not possible where conventional TMV’s are fitted,” he adds.Other key features of the Rada Sense T-logic technology include a facility that performs 5 safety checks, 40 times a second, a ‘lock out’ facility that activates if a fault is detected and a second temperature sensor that will close down the system if for any reason the water temperature exceeds a safe level. The mixing unit is also supplied factory-set to comply with TMV3 safe temperature settings for hospitals.“We are delighted with the new look washrooms and have even been recommended by a number of our visitors to put forward the complete installation for the ‘Loo of the year’ award,” concludes Bridge Villa’s Andrew Townsend. “We are sure the Rada Sense showers will give us a head start over many other caravan and camping sites.”The washroom upgrade and Rada Sense installation was undertaken by Warburton Building Services of Farmoor, Oxfordshire.
