Single-pipe hot water distribution systems were designed for the new acute inpatient hospital in Wakefield and new diagnostic and treatment centre in Pontefract. 25km of RAYCHEM HWAT-M self-regulating heating cables was used, supported by RAYCHEM HWAT-ECO controllers. The single-pipe design and simplicity of the RAYCHEM installation dramatically eased the modular fabrication process. Fully traced and insulated pipe modules were assembled off-site and delivered to meet strict schedules for connection. Pipe freeze protection for external pipework was provided by some 10 km of RAYCHEM WinterGard self-regulating cables.

Higher Potential is a north London based charity that helps disenfranchised young people, with projects designed to divert them away from anti-social behaviour and embrace education, helping them to develop life skills and reaching their potential.Within the two-storey building the area was created for young people to express themselves through dance, drama and music video production.To achieve this, the building required a suitable acoustic treatment to avoid noise leakage whilst creating an acoustically neutral space for music production.ROCKWOOL Sound Insulation Slab and Acoustic RockFloor were implemented.

We are delighted to have been awarded a £60,000 contract for healthcare furniture for the new Manor Street Medical Centre, in Braintree, Essex. Because this was a brand new build, furniture across the whole medical centre building was required, including treatment rooms, consulting rooms, staff WCs and shower rooms, kitchenette, store rooms, staff rooms, GP reception and meeting rooms.Manor Street is a £30 million , mixed-use, regeneration scheme for Braintree District Council to rejuvenate and revitalise the town centre, providing homes, a hotel, health provision, car park and bus interchange.

Eagle House is a leisure development consisting of 84 modern 1 & 2 bedroom apartments at the Lexicon in Bracknell. This 4,500m² redevelopment is part of the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, costing £240 million to construct this leisure development, including shops, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities.Cellecta DECKfon 26T was used in this development as the ideal acoustic overlay treatment to improve the performance of the original structural timber decked floor. And, says centre manager Jerry Hatch, ‘the overall impact and impression made by Pura® NFC siding was the stand out part of the finished article.”

Associated Architects chose SAS International to provide the high acoustic and finishing touches to the UoB academic interior fit-out. Anodised gold cladding and bulkheads were selected to encase the atrium lift-shafts, the main staircase and highlighting the university crest on the 4th floor. Three additional acoustic treatments for open soffit areas were specified over computer clusters and lounge spaces. SAS500 baffles and bespoke ring shaped and circular rafts were designed and manufactured by SAS to fulfil this requirement. The architects have effectively linked elements of the build to the next tying the theme of regency with modern amenities.

The Grade II* Listed Blue Mills in Witham, Essex was recorded in Domesday as the water mill at Benton Hall, a subsidiary manor of Blunts in Witham. The owners have lived in Blue Mills for 20 years and reached out to Selectaglaze for advice on secondary glazing treatments for their primary windows; a mixture of timber sash windows, fixed lights and inward/outward opening casements. 22 windows were treated using a number of window styles: fixed light, vertical sliding and side-hung casements. Selectaglaze is the leading specialist in secondary glazing, established in 1966 and Royal Warrant Holder since 2004.

As part of the interior design, expansive wall murals featuring familiar seaside scenes were specified for key locations within the hospital. Helo was chosen by David Lloyd Leisure and Pellikaan Construction to design and build the heat treatment rooms for this flag-ship spa facility in Surrey. It features an amazing five different sauna cabins. Each one offering the user a unique bathing experience; from the Vitality Sauna which offers clients an exciting sauna ceremony to a more traditional approach in the stylish log cabin set in the grounds of the club. There are two contemporary steam rooms - crystal and oriental, a salt grotto, a tepadarium with luxurious heated ceramic loungers and two adventure showers along with a spectacular ice chandelier.

Italia-Corten louvred screening makes a striking statement at a technology park and science hub, which is being developed with an ambitious commitment to renewables. The louvre panel system has been used to contrast with stainless steel mesh, etched with an artwork of forest trees. The client specified a strong hi-tech identity with a visible natural imprint, using materials capable of expressing sustainability and modernity. The Italia-Corten, which has a high recycled content, 100% recyclability, requires no finishing treatments and is maintenance free, fulfilled the brief for a material with a low environmental impact and a strong aesthetic.

The Trumpington Residents’ Association and Cambridge City Council wanted to update a 60-year-old pavilion at the heart of the village in a £600,000 community project.Cambridge architects 5th Studio designed a striking colourful exterior cladding. They turned to an artist specialising in the treatment and perimeter fencing manufacturer Zaun to create the multi-coloured stripe effect with a specialist bright green protective steel mesh ‘cage’.The SolutionTrumpington Pavilion employs an unusual multi-coloured exterior treatment. An artist specialing in the technique has dribbled green, blue, red and yellow randomly onto a corrugated plastic sandwich sheet, which is then covered with Zaun’s Duo8 mesh in bright green, fixed to coloured timber battens.The pavilion includes a main building with a hall, youth room, kitchen, toilets, office and inter-connected changing rooms for two teams plus an officials’ room.The doors to the changing rooms are in boldly contrasting colours. At the same time, an eight-metre green mesh electric sliding gate protects the building but opens to provide unrestricted access to the patio and the King George V Playing Fields beyond.Zaun installed the Diamond cantilever sliding gate with Duo8 mesh in-fill, KeyFob and internally mounted switchto ensure both the safety of all users of the pavilion when the gates are operated especially children, and the security of the contents when the pavilion is not in use.The original pavilion, built in the early 1950s, was about half the size of the new main building, including a small hall and changing rooms.

Lend Lease bagged the £70m contract to build an emergency care hospital in East Cramlington. The hospital will be the first in the county to have specialists working around the clock to ensure seriously ill or injured patients get treatment quicker. Alongside the major A&E department, the hospital includes a short-stay paediatric facility and consultant-led maternity unit. Its innovative design includes wards arranged around a central nurses' station, to enable staff to keep a closer eye on patients. Naylor Concrete supplied Hi-Spec R8 and R6 concrete lintels to Specialist Brickwork Contractor P James throughout the construction.

The congregation at Grade II Listed St Patricks Church in Bolton, can worship without interruptions from the neighbouring bus interchange, with the installation of acoustic secondary glazing. 4 large gothic arched stained glass clerestory windows were treated with internal glazed units, stopping the ingress of the sound of stationary busses which can create 70-80dB. However the tricky window was the large chancery window overlooking the altar as 4.3m (h) x 3m (w). When now inside the church, the congregation would never know there is a bus interchange just outside; the acoustic secondary glazing treatment has worked miracles.

A unique and distinct project delivered by Helo within a tight timescale. This recent prestigious Rosewood La Guanahani Hotel St. Barthelemy hotel in the West Indies is a haven of style and luxury but it has also been very considered in the design to ensure that the buildings work as well as they look, delivering an outstanding acoustic design which elevated the building to another level both visually and aurally.This secluded tropical boutique resort was heavily damaged in 2017 by Hurricane Irma.The significant renovation includes an entire new beach experience with a new restaurant, lounge, boutique, and “feet in the sand” outdoor dining all clustered around an enlarged pool and deck.This fantastic hotel has a range of areas which really needed to think about how the rooms would work acoustically due to the use and levels of people using them while not compromising the architects’ initial plans and ideas.Washington based architects David M Schwarz worked with celebrated designer Sybille de Margerie, on the interiors to ensure the hotel embraces its chic Parisian pedigree while revelling in its relaxed Caribbean setting.French based ID Acoustique consultants were brought in to ensure that this truly stunning project also balanced the acoustic treatments with the decor and with little wall space in parts, acoustic treatments on the ceiling was paramount in many areas. April 2017 and the future looked bleak for a fire-engulfed net repair factory on the small island of Scalpay. Fire crews from Scalpay, Tarbert, Leverburgh and Stornaway rushed to the scene, as the massive blaze took hold of the facility and the roof looked in danger of collapse. They deployed high pressure hoses to douse the conflagration.Opened in 2008, the factory employed 14 staff and had been used to clean, repair and apply treatment to salmon farming nets. The Norwegian owned operators of the Net Services Scotland site faced an uphill struggle to get the site back up and running again. Hampered by the remote location of the Outer Hebrides and its distance from the mainland.

The ChallengeLocated in a mixed-use development with apartments directly above the gym facilities, Bannatyne Health Club Maida Vale, was faced with a Noise Abatement Order following a series of complaints from residents occupying the dwellings above. In a bid to remediate the situation, CMS Danskin Acoustics was brought in to trouble shoot the cause of the nuisance noise.The SolutionAn initial site visit by the CMS Danskin Acoustics technical team identified the ‘free weight’ area as the source of the impact noise. Inspection of the floor treatment confirmed that a generic sports flooring tile product had been installed, yet this would not offer sufficient levels of absorption for the impact of free weights hitting the ground.Recognising that a bespoke specification would be required to achieve the necessary sound reduction, CMS Danskin Acoustics commissioned Pace Consult to conduct subjective testing on-site using a range of acoustic system build-ups.To resolve the Noise Abatement Order as swiftly as possible and to protect against any further complaints, the highest performing floor-build up was installed as follows:Regufoam 220Regufoam 190FX75 Tile10mm High Impact MatThe combination of these materials delivered a highly absorptive, durable and resilient construction which reduced the noise generated in the free weights area to a level deemed acceptable by the Council – leading the Noise Abatement Order to be withdrawn.Martin Jones, Managing Director, Pace Consult, comments: “Remediation in gym environments is more common than many realise. The front block comprises six flats over three floors with two further flats to the rear block over two storeys. Müller & Müller Denistry Practice, Rennerod GermanyInstaller: GeschwenderProduct: Geschwender Bespoke Furniture and DesksGeschwender designed and installed bespoke HPL furniture to their local dentist office in Rennerod.In addition to the backlit branded front desk Geschwender built custom dentistry cabinetry to the treatment room with a solid surface inset sink and dispensing hatches for gloves and tissue below the high-level cabinets. Specialist drawers and inserts were also made to securely hold tools.Using HPL for sanitaryware in a clinical environment means all the furniture can be cleaned regularly and thoroughly with almost any cleaning agents and suspended dispensers reduce touch points to reduce the risk of cross contamination.

Light, air, acoustics and spatial organisation are well recognised as essential elements when designers work on medical and healing facilities. This is because they have an impact on the treatment of body and mind. Silverstone Universal Technical College is one of the first UTCs to open in the UK.Silverstone College and other UTC’s are part of a government-funded programme to give those aged 14 – 19 unparalleled pathways into University Entrance and rewarding industry careers.We supplied and installed the Class ‘A’ Sound Absorption Acoustic Treatments throughout the new build college. Collaborating with the project team, Architect and the appointed Acoustician an effective and aesthetically pleasing sound absorption solution was developed which meets the Building Regulation requirements of BB93.A variety of Acoustic Absorption products were used in this project including, Absor-R Acoustic Baffles, Absorb-R Acoustic Rafts, Absorb-R Acoustic Fabric Wall Panels and Acoustic flooring.

The newly redeveloped Heatherwood Hospital employs a total of 4,200m² of Sudsgrid 40 cellular pavers, filled with free-draining angular aggregate to provide 450 new parking spaces, delineated by yellow markers. ABG’s sub-base design utilises the unique Abgrid geogrid to reduce the thickness of DoT Type 3 stone required for structural stability, and through the use of the ABG Terrex NW non-woven geotextile layer, an additional stage of treatment was provided for the infiltrating water.ABG’s permeable paving limits surface water run-off and minimises the risk of localised flooding, alongside, providing a shallower construction profile. Resulting in reductions in site excavation, off-site tipping, DoT Type 3 stone deliveries and the associated costs.
