Brett Invicta Granite Paving paves Kingston Colleges £10m refurbishment

Brett Landscaping

Kingston College recently embarked on a £10 million refurbishment project, which included the remodelling of the main building’s entrance and a new ground-floor student centre. The landscaping of the approach to the main building was a crucial part of the project. Contractors Lenmark Construction were managing the refurb, however they encountered a major issue when the original supplier was only able to offer a 10-week lead time for the specified paving product. The project required 900sqm of hard landscaping, and the original supplier was now unable to fulfil this order within the specifications. This risked stalling the entire project, so Lenmark needed a reliable and immediate supply of high-quality paving products. Lenmark contacted Brett for help. As a leading independent manufacturer of concrete paving, Brett was able to offer Invicta pavers, featuring AggTech surface technology. Our Invicta pavers were fully stocked and immediately available. Our AggTech process uses unique natural aggregates on the surface of each paving block to create a stunning durable finish perfectly replicating natural stone. The paving was delivered in four complementary colours - Pearl, Moonstone, Onyx, and Citrine - in a 300x200 paving layout design plan. Brett Landscaping’s project designer worked closely with the architect to produce design take-offs, offering regular on-site visits to ensure that the installation was running smoothly, and that the Invicta product satisfied the brief. Thanks to Brett’s immediate supply the project was able to proceed without any delays. The result was a successful refurbishment project that included a remodelled main entrance, a new ground-floor student centre, and a beautiful approach to the main building

A three-in-one adjustable pedestal for paving and decking

A three-in-one adjustable pedestal for paving and decking

Wallbarn Ltd

Mega Balance is the new adjustable height pedestal for paving and decking systems that does three jobs all in one. Firstly it achieves both the ultra heavy duty weight tolerance of the Wallbarn Megapad by tolerating over 2 tonnes per unit before breaking and having a self-levelling headpiece for smoother, more high end surface finishes. Secondly, it can become both a self-levelling or a fixed headed pedestal within the same unit by adding "the grey nut". By inserting and locking into place the grey nut into the centre of the headpiece, users can lock off the head to create a more rigid pedestal. Instead of having to order different pedestals to create these changes, both options are available in the same product. Thirdly, when paving, a brilliant new mechanism is provided to deal with rocking or moving slabs over time on paving areas. Slabs will often move over time for various reasons (structural movement, traffic etc.) and operatives have traditionally had to lift multiple slabs, adjust the height of the pedestals and then relay the slabs. Now, using "the yellow key" major labour saving and health & safety improvements are gained. Insert the yellow key into a small slot in the centre of the headpiece to turn the thread of the pedestal and adjust the height with the slab still in position.Mega Balance is available with a standard paving headpiece, a decking joist headpiece and a clip headpiece designed to hold Wallbarn's profiled aluminium rail. Added benefits include steeper, narrower weight bearing fins on the outside of the central column which means the bases can be cut back closer to that column for paving up tot he wall or parapet. A stronger, tidier finish on such details is achieved.Mega Balance offers much greater flexibility and scope for constructing suspended paving and decking schemes.

A single ply membrane was installed. Paving and decking was required. Adjustable pedestals were laid directly onto the surface and their heights altered so that the upper surface of the 50mm paving slabs and the 125mm decking frame would be level. Nothing penetrated the membrane and the weight tolerance of the ASP and TD pedestals meant even very heavy traffic on a public bar was accommodated.

Piatto paving brings granite look to Deaconess House

Brett Landscaping

Deaconess House, a former hospital, dates back to 1894 and the new development retains the frontage of the original building, with a modern construction to the rear. Given the building’s proximity to Holyrood Park, the planning conditions specified the use of indigenous stone for all paving on the project from within 20 miles of the site. However, when the contractor researched the options it was recognised that this was impractical and that Brett Landscaping's Piatto range would provide an equally effective solution to the project’s needs. Vandersanden Expands Texture Generator With Realistic Textures For Paving Public Spaces And Gardens

Vandersanden Brick

Brick manufacturer Vandersanden is expanding its Texture Generator with paver textures for garden and landscape projects. This allows professionals and consumers to render their designs in a detailed and lifelike way. These designs can also be integrated into the CAD programme Vectorworks. Integration with other common software packages for architects is in development. "At Vandersanden, we are constantly pushing for innovation and the digitisation of our offering. This major expansion of the Texture Generator fits in seamlessly with that," said Bart Hesen, Paving Marketing Manager at Vandersanden.Following the launch of the texture generator for facing bricks and brick slips, an online tool to design facades, Vandersanden is now expanding it to include its range of clay pavers for garden and landscape projects. So now the texture generator also visualises paving for gardens and public spaces in a lifelike way and allows users to design and download their own textures. This allows garden and landscape architects, project managers at municipalities, garden contractors and private individuals to imagine the end result in a lifelike way.More than 1.1 million lifelike combinationsAmong other things, users can experiment with formats and laying patterns in the online tool. In addition, they can mix colours themselves to create their own unique colour mix. This possibility is especially valuable for architects. The paver’s textures visualise public spaces or gardens in a lifelike way and help both professionals and consumers make aesthetic choices. After all, there are more than 1.1 million possible combinations at Vandersanden, all of which are available in the texture generator. The texture obtained is also infinitely scalable, with minimal repetition of patterns. Thanks to digital innovation, the brick manufacturer succeeds in making all combinations look lifelike: all pavers are scanned in 3D for this purpose, and lighting is added afterwards.Faster and more efficientThe texture generator works quickly, easily and intuitively. Afterwards, users can also download the creations, including exposure folders (including Albedo, Alpha and Diffuse) and technical specifications, allowing them to integrate the creations into their own design or 3D model."Knowledge sharing, inspiration and convenience for customers are central to us. The digitisation of our offering is indispensable in this respect. With the expansion of our texture generator for the paving of public spaces and gardens, we are taking another step forward on the digital front.
