The Project Perton First School has been open for over 40 years and the infant washroom facilities are in need of modernisation. The school prides itself its family ethos and has seen generations of families come the doors. The ChallengePropose a system with children of nursery age in mind. Consider the height of the doors & partitions.Peardrop range is not supported by an overhead rail and the frontage is fixed at the floor and gable walls only.Flooring substate needs to be at lease 60mm thick and stable to ensure a secure fixing point at the base of the foot.Deliver a non-standard laminate to enhance the systems aesthetics. The SolutionExcelsior, working alongside G Evans and Entrust, are excited to have installed our Harlequin Select Range at Perton First School. The Project Joseph Leckie Academy £3.5 million modern new wing received Walsall Council’s planning committee approval in April 2015, and it has been full steam ahead since then. Speller Metcalfe awarded contractor and commenced building the state of the art 21 classroom block in May 2015. The ChallengeThe Architects vision was to create a minimalist washroom décor with flush frontage cubicles and high specification wash stations. The overall finish to be non-fussy and unobtrusive.Cubicles sited below a bulkhead were required to appear to float and all legs and fixing to be hidden.Standard vanity frontages and sinks did not meet the brief, a bespoke wash station was required. The Solution Excelsior Planar 12mm Solid Grade Laminate has proven an excellent choice for the building, the flush frontage provides a seamless finish, and the durability of solid grade laminate panels is perfect for a heavy use environment such as a school. Finished with a ‘P’ section headrail for maximum stability, eradicating any lateral movement provided the rigidity the system needs. The overall aesthetics of the installation is extremely pleasing, the cubicles overall height @ 2100mm on a 50mm leg is a standard height system however having a bulkhead in place has increased the sense of privacy and delivered the opulence of a floor to ceiling enclosure. The 50mm leg is set back inside the cubicle, fixed onto the partition which enhances the seamless finish from the exterior and infers the system is floating.SpecificationProduct Range: Planar 12mm Solid Grade Laminate CubicleDoors: B070 Blanc Megeve )Pilaster: Gris Orage G059Partition: Gris Orage G059Ironmongery: Stainless Steel

cGMP Advanced Manufacturing Area for Orthoplastics

cGMP Advanced Manufacturing Area for Orthoplastics

Norwood Group Limited

PROJECT OVERVIEWOrthoplastics is a global leader in the development and manufacture of orthopaedic implants and components, helping surgeons transform lives around the world. This project, the first phase of a fit out programme for a new facility in Bacup, Lancashire, involved the delivery a new cGMP advanced manufacturing area for the production of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) sheets used in the manufacture of orthopaedic implants. The requirement was for a production area that can provide a controlled environment, isolated from the rest of the floorplate, during processing periods, while enabling access by a remote controlled mobile crane to remove the completed UHMWPE sheets when the equipment is non-operational.PROJECT SPECThe new Orthoplastics building is a single storey facility and the size and weight of the UHMWPE equipment required excavation of additional space below ground to accommodate both the machine and the building services required to process materials at up to 2400C. The 1000m2 processing area needs to be a cleanable cGMP compliant environment to avoid the risk of contaminants in materials that will be used in orthopaedic surgery. The partitioning for the perimeter is 11m tall and connected to the ceiling of the existing building shell. To provide the structural stability required for such tall walls, the standard Norwood 100mm Mediline partition thickness has been increased to 200mm. The project also included rapid rise doors for access by the remote control crane that removes the large UHMWPE sheets following the process. The fully demountable double skin bi-panel system enabled a fast and robust installation enabling the project to get back on track quickly following interruption by the pandemic. The panels were prefabricated in-house by Norwood, enabling a fast-track installation programme.Norwood was also designed, manufactured and installed a range of their single and double steel doors in blue.

Tours Duo, Paris - Pyroguard Protect

Pyroguard UK Ltd

The ChallengeInstalled within the reception hall and circulation areas of the two towers, Pyroguard Protect, which was chosen by fire protection specialists, Pyrometal, has helped architect Ateliers Jean Nouvel achieve his ambitious vision, without compromising on safety.Following the successful testing, Pyroguard Protect was installed throughout DUO-1 and DUO-2.In the reception hall, Pyroguard Protect EI120 was fitted inside PYROTEK steel profiles to form full height glass partitions and in the circulation areas on each floor, around 690 square metres of E30 was used inside double-leaf doors with EI60 glass partitions. The same was also used in the corridor doors as a means of compartmentation, which connects various areas to the stairs and lift landings. The SolutionTours Duo rises on a former industrial site on the edge of the River Seine in the Paris Rive Gauche district and at 180 m, DUO-1 is set to be the third tallest building in the capital. The pair of towers, DUO-1 and DUO-2, which lean to form an impressive asymmetrical ‘V’, will house offices, retail spaces, restaurants, a hotel and a top floor panoramic bar.In the design of the mixed-use scheme, Ateliers Jean Nouvel was tasked to create high performing, aesthetically striking buildings and as such, decided to take a bioclimatic approach to reduce energy use and make the most of the outdoor weather conditions.Giving the best protection for people and property, Pyroguard Protect provides integrity and heat insulation for 30 to 180 minutes (EI classification). The solution also provides 1B1 impact classification without the need for additional counterpanes, high performing acoustic properties and peace of mind throughout the lifespan of the product due to its UV stability.

CABI Headquarters

Lusso Systems Ltd

CABI, the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International, have moved into their brand new bespoke global headquarters for the organisation in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Sitting in an area of outstanding natural beauty, this unique office development by architects, Scott Brownrigg, has been built with a low impact design and a strong emphasis on low carbon. The complete development incorporates energy-saving measures above current Building Regulations standards.  Whilst the outside of the building has been designed to be unobtrusive, allowing it to blend into its environment, internally the design has certainly been given the wow factor.  Rooflights allow natural light into the building, which continues to flow throughout by clever use of Lusso Atria glazing and Lusso 25 single frameless glazing. The glazed atrium has been installed with stunning affect and glazed partitions provide a 2,500sqm of workspace which incorporates a café restaurant, meeting rooms, and conference room/auditorium. This state-of-the-art headquarters is certainly fitting for an international organisation which will be visited by both guests and staff from around the world.

MIDDAS

BackgroundTurnkey contractor Asgard Controlled Environments were appointed to deliver two Grade B laboratories for a new cell gene therapy aseptic suite for their client in Oxfordshire. The cleanroom facility included personnel and material airlocks, and a VHP decontamination chamber with full HVAC integration.BriefAsgard’s client required a proven solution for the construction of the cleanroom envelope. MIDDAS partition solutions were selected due to our long-standing relationship with the Asgard team, having worked on a number of high profile cleanroom projects.  SolutionThe MIDDAS team designed the freestanding structures from our robust M100 bi-panel system and M-WOC walk-on ceiling, incorporating our flush two-part aluminium coving for controlled environments. Third party doors were already specified, so MIDDAS panels were modulated to provide all structural openings and door linings. The framework was extended above the ceiling to support the extensive HVAC system and distributed services. This accommodated the walk-on service deck with integrated edge protection, required for safety compliant maintenance of equipment.
