Working with architects, CMI Workplace and main contractor, Overbury, Style was specified to install a fully automatic Dorma Moveo Glazed ComfortDrive moveable wall adjacent to a Skyfold, the fully automatic, vertically rising operable wall, housed in the ceiling cavity. At the push of a button, the walls open and close with ease, offering a phenomenal lab tested 50dB Rw acoustic integrity for the glass system, and 51dB Rw for the Skyfold.

When Moving Designs were asked to undertake a partition replacement in a five-star hotel in Manchester, we were certainly up for the challenge. Four tonnes of our Prestige acoustic partitioning were carried up two flights of stairs by nine of our skilled fitters; this had to be meticulously planned around the hotel users. The existing track had to be cut out of the ceiling to enable a new track to be replaced, seventeen panels and one pass door measuring 3.8 were installed, the plasterboard ceiling was re-instated, skimmed and re-decorated.

Style first installed DORMA moveable walls at global law firm, Mayer Brown, back in 2007, soon after announcing its exclusive UK partnership with DORMA. After 12 years, Mayer Brown decided to update its flexible space with the latest operable wall technology. Working with MCM Architecture, and contractor Overbury, Style installed two semi-automatic Variflex partitions and three Skyfold vertical-rising, fully automatic systems, both taken from the comprehensive DORMA range of operable walls. Wolvercote Primary School, Oxfordshire, first contracted Style to install a folding wall in a classroom in 2015. This proved so useful that when the need arose again, the teaching staff insisted on the same product. Working with architect SixPC and contractor Wensley Group, Style’s team recommended the same Stylefold 120 folding wall but, with an endfold configuration rather than centrefold arrangement, giving added space when the wall is not in use. Boasting an impressive 46dB Rw acoustic rating, the partition enables the school to run adjacent classes either side, or quickly open the room up into one large space.

Moving Designs were brought in to assist a special needs school in Surrey separate their Hall into two. They needed the ability to sub-divide their hall for simultaneous activities. We provided our top hung Prestige Moveable Wall to enable them to accomplish this. The panels were finished in a stylish ash laminate, providing 45dB Rw acoustic performance. The Prestige offers an effective space solution, with an acoustic insulation of up to 58dB noise reduction. When the seals are retracted they will glide effortlessly along the unique overhead track. Highcliffe School in Dorset originally requested a visit from Style’s service and repair team, to offer advice regarding a moveable wall that was no longer functioning. Having carried out extensive inspection and testing, Style’s technicians concluded that it was beyond repair and that the best solution would be to install a new, Stylefold 120 modern folding wall system. A key benefit of the Stylefold system is its ease of operation, offering maximum flexibility for the school to use the wall on a day-to-day basis to divide the main hall from the canteen service desk and newly installed chiller.

Working closely with Bates Office, Moving Designs were tasked with enabling a Property Company in Milton Keynes separate their first floor meeting room. The ceiling in place was a standard suspended ceiling therefore would not accommodate any weight. They also requested the system run between the two pillars then nest behind one of the pillars. Our Kudos bottom rolling, sliding folding partition was the perfect choice. The Kudos incorporates a series of flat panels that are hinged together to give a flush appearance when closed. The Kudos allows room sizes to be changed in a matter of minutes.

Sliding folding partition installed in £6 million pound Sports Hub

Moving Designs were approached to assist in maximising the floor space in the main hall of a brand new £6m community sports hub. The scope was to sub-divide the main hall into to two fully functional spaces to accommodate a range of sporting activities. Good onsite acoustic performance was imperative. The structural support in the hub, above the opening wasn’t sufficient enough to carry the weight of a top hung partition; our customer opted for our floor supported continuously hinged panel systems with an ultra low profile floor track system which offers an excellent sound reduction.

Wellington Hospital, London

Balfour Beatty approached Planet Partitioning with a high-performance refurbishment specification for the UK's largest private hospital. For all the patient and treatment rooms, Planet Partitioning used p20 demountable glass partitioning with Eclipse sliding doors. FireStop partitioning ensured that lift lobby partitioning has a fire integrity and insulation rating of EI120/120. Doors for the lift lobby are fire rated for EI 60/60 and steel framed.

Oxford Martin Building, Oxfordshire

The Oxford Martin Building at the University of Oxford is a world-leading centre of pioneering research that addresses global challenges from climate change to fuel poverty. Working closely with Berman Guedes Stretton, Planet Partitioning designed and then curved the structural framework of the partitioning to match the internal arches of the building. p100 double glazed partitioning was used to ensure sound didn't travel between meeting rooms. p20 p20 single glazed demountable partitioning was used for the office fronts and where the partitioning had to be curved to match the internal arches.

Hill Partnership, Essex

Hill Partnership asked Planet Partitioning to oversee all the internal partitioning requirements at its new two-storey Head Office – an old gunpowder mill in Essex. The atrium voids and room frontages featured p100 single-glazed demountable partitioning – chosen because its thick framework complemented the robust and open steel framework of the building. Planet Partitioning used vertex dry joints to ensure a virtually invisible glass partitioning joint and the highest acoustic insulation. Manifestation film applied to the partitioning provided visual contrast and added privacy. Eclipse sliding doors maximised usable floor space in all offices and meeting rooms.

DLA Architecture, Leeds

DLA Architecture asked Planet Partitioning to put together a specification for the internal partitioning of their meeting rooms and offices as part of a Category B fit-out. Working with Triton Construction, Planet Partitioning used p20 frameless single glazing to create meeting rooms, offices and corridor screens over three floors. This included applying a striking coloured graphic across the partitioning and installing glazed doors with a walnut timber surround. After project completion, Planet was asked to add extra partitioning to create more offices and to put together a specification for a new building in Leeds.

Birmingham City University, Birmingham

As part of ongoing improvements to Birmingham City University, Associated Architects, together with Willmott Dixon, asked Planet Partitioning to put together a specification for internal partitioning in the new purpose-built Curzon Building on the BCU campus. Planet designed and installed a combination of framed and frameless p20 single glazed demountable partitioning and p100 double glazed partitioning in the offices, meeting and lecture rooms, helping to meet strict sound attenuation requirements. Single and double glazed doors and several fire-rated screens feature throughout the building, alongside fire-rated and non fire-rated partitioning.

Network Rail Control Centre, Basingstoke

Working with GMW architects and BAM Construction, Planet devised a highly effective partitioning strategy. Where trains pull directly into the building, Planet Partitioning used FireStop single-glazed fire-rated partitioning. FireClear and FireStop doorsets were used throughout the rest of the building. p100 double glazed partitioning features throughout offices and meeting rooms, to ensure excellent levels of acoustic performance, with several meeting rooms also created with p20 single glazed demountable partitioning. For meeting rooms and offices that required additional privacy, Planet installed integrated venetian blinds. A striking coloured manifestation film in the meeting rooms and offices provided visual contrast.

WWF, Woking

The Living Planet Centre is WWF’s brand-new purpose-built head office in Woking. Hopkins Architects and Willmott Dixon asked Planet to provide specification for internal glass partitions in this two-storey 3,666 sqm building. For the meeting rooms, Planet Partitioning installed an electronic room booking system within p100 partitioning, so staff can book meeting rooms. For all the meeting rooms, remote controlled integrated venetian blinds allow additional privacy as required. p100 also ensures all meeting rooms meet high acoustic performance requirements. Planet Partitioning also installed FireStop fire-rated glass partitioning to meet fire regulations throughout the building.

Strathclyde Police HQ, Glasgow

Morgan Sindall approached Planet Partitioning to put together a cost proposal for all the internal demountable glazed screens, for the new five-storey Strathclyde Police Station on River East, in Dalmarnock, Glasgow. Working with Cooper Comer Architects and Morgan Sindall, Planet Partitioning used a combination of p100 double glazed partitioning and p20 single glazed partitioning and IsoClear glass doors for each office. Due to the sensitive nature of police work, the building needed very high levels of sound attenuation, exceeding 50 dB Rw between meeting rooms and offices.

European Space Agency UK HQ

The European Space Agency (ESA) headquarters at Harwell Estate is a leading science, innovation, technology and business hub. Working closely with the architect and contractor, Planet Partitioning offered and installed M100, its premium modular partitioning system. For the crosswalls, Planet Partitioning used a solid core panel with a factory-laminated steel-faced panel finish and office fronts with built-in glazed units and door areas. A slim framework ensured a bright, clean and modern look for the meeting rooms and offices, while the steel-faced partitioning allowed the use of magnets to display large documents.

Sir Duncan Rice Library, Aberdeen

Over 18 months, Planet Partitioning worked within a budget to achieve the sound attenuation levels required for the Sir Duncan Rice Library, using a combination of p100 double glazed partitioning and p20 single glazed frameless glass partition systems. We also installed timber doors throughout the library and was responsible for drywalling, which included solid partitioning between rooms and plasterboard wall lining. Planet used 27mm, low-profile frameless glazing to create a peaceful and open plan library with a spiralling off-centre atrium with 13km of shelving.

Folkestone Academy

For the classrooms, p100 demountable double glazed partitioning ensures high acoustic attenuation. Planet Partitioning sourced and installed all the doors: timber-frame white doors that are easy to maintain and repair. At the academy’s heart is an atrium fire rated to 60/60 integrity and insulation, thanks to Planet Partitioning’s FireStop 25mm glass. These glass panels also feature in the library, which overlooks the atrium. For walkways and gangways, p20 demountable glass partitioning features where acoustic performance isn’t critical – but it ensures a modern and contemporary space in line with Foster and Partners’ vision.

European Investment Bank HQ

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the European Union bank. Planet Partitioning’s design team worked closely with Bradley Mallalieu Architects to fulfil the requirements of this premium and high acoustic-performing refurbishment. As all the Director offices needed to meet high acoustic attenuation, Planet Partitioning used p100 demountable double glazing partitioning to ensure conversation within these office spaces couldn’t be overheard. Frosting applied to the glass partitioning provides visual contrast and privacy. The project features a mixture of doors – some with black laminated finish, which complement the striking grey RAL9006 framework.

Storm Model Management, London

Storm Model Management is renowned for finding, developing and managing careers for some of the world's top modelling talent. In the heart of the London office, on a polished concrete floor, Planet Partitioning created a striking stadium meeting room using p20 curved glass at both ends and linear joints between the partitioning to ensure a crystal clear, flawless, flush finish. By curving the partitioning channels carefully and then manufacturing and engineering the glass to fit, Planet achieved an excellent curved glass partitioning effect. Eclipse sliding doors were used for the lobby area, ensuring a seamless look throughout the space.

Santander UK HQ

As one of Santander’s approved suppliers, Planet Partitioning was approached directly by the client to specify internal glass partitions and glass doors for the refurbishment of VIP meeting rooms at its UK headquarters. By installing p100 double-glazed partitioning and single and double Sonotec doors in all the VIP meeting rooms, Planet Partitioning achieved the look and the high sound attenuation levels required. Planet also installed electronic room booking systems and three-quarter-high switchable glass division panels for added privacy. FireTec doors on the ground floor help meet the building’s strict fire strategy requirements.
