UK architect David Russel, designed all windows and doors to be pocket style, disappearing into the walls.Much consideration was given to concealment and where possible the curtains also opened out of sight, into their own wall pockets. All Lutron curtain tracks were flush-mounted using TrackTrim by Blindspace, including a number of curved tracks. In some of the windows, Lutron blinds were concealed within Blindspace boxes behind the curtains, all disappearing when not required. Style - Moveable Partition Specialists

Leading partitioning specialist, Style, has launched a new glass sliding wall solution for balconies and terraces (BSW). Transforming a balcony into functional space, glass panels are used to enclose the area, creating a barrier against weather and noise without impeding the view. On fine days, the upper section of the glass panels can be neatly folded and stacked to one side, allowing people to sit out and enjoy the sunshine. For terrace rooms that open straight out into a garden or external seating area, Style’s new glass sliding wall allows the boundary between the two spaces to be easily removed on sunny days, whilst successfully combining weather protection with uninterrupted views of the outside during inclement weather. With a discrete guidance track that can be fitted flush to the floor, the BSW system creates a truly a streamlined aesthetic. “This is an exciting addition to our portfolio of glass moveable, folding and partitioning walls,” said Mark Cowley, who heads up the glass solutions division at Style. "With space at a premium, it makes sense to extract the maximum functionality from what is available.”“Our sliding-folding glass wall system brings the outdoors in, effectively expanding the living space in residential homes. In commercial settings, such as restaurants for example, the BSW can be used to increase capacity by making use of a balcony or external area that would otherwise only be enjoyed in good weather.” Making for a welcoming environment, even when a terrace room or balcony is entirely enclosed by the glass panels, air still circulates internally thanks to tiny, 3mm gaps between that provide continuous ventilation. Any condensation is quickly filtered outside thanks to unobtrusive drainage vents and guttering.Fitted with a sophisticated roller system, the individual glass panels also incorporate autonomous pivot point identifiers, ensuring smooth and effortless manoeuvrability every time.Ideal for residential and hospitality settings, the BSW system also offers opportunities for sports clubs, retail outlets and commercial offices, wherever a more enjoyable experience could be offered by opening-up an internal area to incorporate an outdoor space.

Islington Square

Marshalls plc

Islington Square is a mixed-use development offering over 250 apartments as well as retail and leisure facilities in this Islington suburb just north of the Thames. At the site of the former North London Royal Mail sorting office, this Grade 2 listed building is a monument to Edwardian architecture, and the renovation of this square brings together the old and new, building a timeless community feel for residents and visitors.Main contractors, Galliard Construction worked with Kilhan Construction for the hard and soft landscaping in the public and residential areas, focusing on building the perfect connection between the apartments, shops and restaurants as well as the communal gardens and outdoor spaces. The crowning social hub is the summer terrace, which is a relaxing outdoor retreat of flowers and deckchairs, away from the hustle and bustle of the high street.Marshalls supplied Modal Textured in Anthracite Granite and Mid Grey Granite for the roads and pathways, these two colours were chosen to contrast perfectly for this ‘pixelated’ paving effect, creating a wonderful contemporary design for the dedicated pedestrian areas. Conservation X kerbs and steps were used for the delineation of the paving as well as the sectioning of the multi-levelled areas - as one of our more design-leading kerb options; Conservation X provided a functional and complementary addition to this overall design, tying together nicely with the Modal paving.Peter Conway from Kilhan said, "The project design was quite complex with a lot of intricate detailing and various products being matched together, however working in unison with Marshalls, who were extremely helpful throughout, made the project delivery seamless. As you can see the finished product looks amazing, I’m sure the residents on the development and in the surrounding areas are delighted with how well it looks."When completed back in 2019, this renovation had proven both creative and inspiring, and Marshalls were proud to have supplied products that contributed to this perfect example of a mixed-use environment. Even when we returned to photograph in 2021, the community feel of the square was very apparent, with still plenty to enjoy at the markets, shops, cinema and even yoga to take part in. This development has built a lasting neighbourhood ethos and established a personality for the square, with its own website and social media platform to boot.

Revitalising Heddon Street: A Burst of Colours and Nature with Custom Planters

Meristem Design Limited

In the heart of Regent Street lies a hidden gem - Heddon Street, a vibrant hub bustling with fantastic bars and restaurants. Our latest installation of colourful planters has breathed new life into this thriving area, illuminating it with a burst of vibrant hues and the refreshing touch of nature. In collaboration with Landscape Architects Macgregor Smith and funded by the Crown Estate, this project has revitalised Heddon Street, creating an enchanting and captivating atmosphere for all to enjoy.FABRICATION AND DELIVERY OF CUSTOM PLANTERS The planters were fabricated, painted and filled with soil in our workshop in Sevenoaks. To minimise disruptions to the busy area, the planters were delivered to the site using a Hiab, a method chosen specifically for its efficiency and convenience. This careful logistical planning ensured a smooth installation process and minimised any disturbances to the street's vibrant atmosphere.PLANTING SELECTION AND SEASONAL VARIATIONSThe selection of plants was carefully curated to complement the vibrancy of the planters and create a captivating display throughout the seasons. Bright and blooming flowers were chosen to enhance the visual appeal during the summer months, infusing the street with an array of colours that delight the senses. Additionally, grasses were selected to provide visual interest and texture during the autumn and winter seasons, ensuring that Heddon Street remains captivating and engaging all year round.CREATING ENCHANTING OUTDOOR DINING AREAS THROUGH 'GREEN BOOTHS'The primary aim of this project was to create inviting and comfortable outdoor dining areas for the fantastic bars and restaurants that populate Heddon Street. To achieve this, the planters were strategically placed to create enclosed "green booths" where visitors can dine amidst the beauty of nature. These intimate and charming spaces offer a unique and immersive dining experience that sets Heddon Street apart from traditional outdoor dining settings. By harmoniously blending nature and culinary delights, visitors can enjoy their meals in a charming and refreshing atmosphere.THE POWER OF BIOPHILIC DESIGN ENHANCING URBAN SPACES WITH NATUREBiophilic design, which aims to integrate nature into our built environments, has been a key element in the revitalisation of Heddon Street. By integrating nature into the heart of the city, the colourful planters become a beacon of biophilic design, providing numerous benefits for businesses, residents, and visitors alike.BIOPHILIC DESIGN BENEFITS FOR BUSINESSESHere are a few key advantages:Enhanced Well-being and Productivity: Research shows that exposure to nature and natural elements can have a positive impact on people's well-being and productivity.
