Elliptical on plan and angled in profile, The SSE Hydro’s domed roof required over 12,750 sqm of naturally curved tapered Kalzip® sheets in lengths of up to 25 metres installed in six concentric, almost circular bands.
The façade of this amphitheatre-inspired building is 15 metres high at the rear rising to 33 metres at the south-facing front elevation with the central apex of the roof being 45 metres above ground level.

A DOFF steam cleaner was used to thoroughly clean the moss and lichen from this asbestos roof in Bridgwater.
The metal fixings were treated with Liquasil's rust tolerant primer and then sealed, along with cracked sheets, using Non-Sag Sealer, before the whole roof was coated using Asbestoseal 20.
The end result was a leak-free asbestos roof that will last for many more years.
Asbestoseal is the only BBA Approved coating system for asbestos roofs.

SAS International delivered visually-striking, sustainable ceiling solutions in V&A Dundee.
To complement the shape of the building SAS600 ceiling rafts were chosen. Presented with a unique mesh texture, SAS600 accentuated the open-plan layout of the light foyer.
SAS730 was selected for its alternative aesthetic finish and ability to allow airflow in areas such as the exhibition space.
Providing a more premium motif, SAS740 tapered baffle were specified to ensure easy maintenance without compromising the product’s geometric design. Working with the design team, SAS developed a bespoke extrusion shape for the linear ceilings to meet this requirement.

Sherwn-Williams demonstrated what technical assistance can be provided on projects before any quotations or specifications are organised. A low viscosity primer Resutop Binder was recommended as a penetrating primer to case harden and consolidate the screed. Epoxy screed repairs were installed where required to make good any damaged areas. Once a sound substrate was established Resuprime MVT moisture tolerant primer was installed incorporating a fabric mesh over all joints and pitted areas to reduce any potential cracking of this substrate, followed by 9mm thick FasTop RS69 polyurtehane screed.

Working for Hitachi Rail, Lionweld Kennedy supplied open mesh flooring, handrails, stairs and removeable chains to 3 number 250 meter long inspection walkways and 18 number 27 meter long access platforms.Making use of our safegrid and saferails, Lionweld Kennedy provided Stoke Gifford Rail Depot with safe and efficient platforms for inspection. The site is part of a wider £5.7 billion development on the Great Western (GWR) and East Coast Mainlines. For the next 17 years at least, it will serve as a crucial maintenance facility for Hitachi Rail Europe’s service delivery operations.

Making Irvine Sellar's ambition to create such a luxurious space into a reality. 95% of construction material were recycled during the fit out. Including 95% recycled content in pedestals.Back in 2015, the Grainger family celebrated a 21st Birthday, visiting the Shard. 360 views of the capital, on a clear day provided outstanding memories for such a special occasion. Whilst looking out it was easy to spot various other jobs and projects we had worked on over the years. We were all proud to be a part of the making of The Shard.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan welcomes over 290,000 visitors each year to explore its 200 acres of rediscovered gardens. Heligan came to Gripsure for a non-slip solution for the Jungle, where decked walkways lead visitors through immersive tropical plants and giant ferns.
The Jungle is in a sheltered, deep valley. It is very steep in places, so when it rains, it’s essential visitors are kept safe. We recommended Gripsure Classic, a smooth board featuring three non-slip inserts. We chose this decking because it has the highest safety rating on the market, making it the right choice for this project.

Intensive Care Unit, Harrogate District Hospital

Calm and non-clinical environment for busy ICUChallengeHospital environments are created to heal; yet supporting both physical and mental health needs in clinical environments can be challenging. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Harrogate District Hospital required a refurbishment to its walls and wanted a non-clinical design, but with hygienic properties. Approach The unit had different areas with different functions – it needed to have hygienic, clean, wipe down walls which were also robust and could withstand bumps and scuffs. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the refurbishment needed to be completed quickly with minimum downtime to ICU. The team also wanted the unit to have a non-clinical feel. Solution Altro Whiterock White, Altro Whiterock Chameleon, and Altro Whiterock Digiclad (Custom) were selected for the walls in the ICU. The hospital’s paediatric unit had Altro hygienic wall sheets installed previously and knew they were robust and trusted products. The ICU staff and project design team took time to select artwork of cherry blossom branches that would be cheerful yet calming for patients, as well as inspiring and uplifting for hardworking staff. The images were printed to create the Altro Whiterock Digiclad (Custom) wall sheets.

Optima FC in 3.0mm PPC Aluminium 1050 grade has been used in the completion on The Power Electronics, Machines and Control (PEMC) Research Group on Nottingham University's Jubilee Campus.Home to three purpose-built labs – High Power, Power Electronics, and Drives – the building was built after PEMC secured investment of £18million, including £1.5m from the Wolfson Foundation and £4m from Propulsion Futures.The 5,400m² development is internationally renowned and one of the largest on its field.FEA analysis was carried out by Sotech as non-standard sheets were used due to the sheer size of some panels. The purpose was to ensure enough stiffening resistance had been built into the sheets, to ensure the larger panels were safe and compliant.The project was completed during the first lockdown (due to Covid 19) meaning operations were paused during the project. Sotech and Deane Roofing worked closely together to keep as tightly as possible to the original timeline.Josh Stevens, Estimator at Sotech said: “This was my first project working with Deane Roofing, which was an absolute pleasure. The project ran smoothly from start to finish, and I think the end product looks fantastic.”
Rusty Barn roof

Using materials, shades and textures that work in harmony with rural surroundings is always an important consideration for designers and planners. In Hertfordshire an ancient barn has recently been converted to provide additional accommodation for the nearby house.The new roof of the C16th barn was constructed with Cadisch Welltec perforated profiled aluminium panels over a waterproof membrane. Visible roof lights on such an ancient barn were not permitted but some light is able to penetrate through unobtrusive roof lights which are entirely covered by the perforated Welltec. The outline of the windows can just be made out in the photograph.The corrugated effect of the Welltec already lent a rustic charm to the roof and the owners needed a coating for the aluminium that would both protect the roof and also give the appearance of an old building.Taking inspiration from natural elements, EvolutionTM powder coatings allow architects and designers to achieve the look they need, together with using the most appropriate materials for the job and satisfying planning requirements on a local level. The panels and ridge cappings totalling over 200 square metres, were pre-treated in a chrome-free system and powder coated in EvolutionTM ‘Peat fire’ at Powdertech’s Corby plant, before being delivered to site for installation. Peat fire is an earthy shade, instantly giving an aged look to the roof. Architect: BDPInstaller: Houston Cox Ltd Product: Gustafs Panel SystemLSA are very proud to have supplied over 2 000 m2 of GUSTAFS Panel System® to the stunning Southmead Hospital which opened in Bristol in 2014.Oak veneer was chosen by the architect to contrast it’s tactility and visual warmth with the cool glazed and coloured elements elsewhere, SM8 mini slot perforations were used to add class B acoustic control to the 6 storey atrium space.Panels for the stair-cores were custom made and delivered fully assembled by Gustafs to achieve the gentle curve to the outside of the central tower. Chris Green, Architect Director at BDP had this to say: “The stair and lift cores centred in each of the colour themed atria spaces are key wayfinding points on a visitors’ journey to the wards and we wanted these elements to have the feeling of bespoke pieces of high-quality crafted furniture, bringing the tactility and visual warmth of a timber against the contrasting glazed and coloured elements elsewhere.The acoustic requirements and characteristics of the atria spaces are complex and the timber shroud surrounding to the stair and lift cores formed an ideal centralised location to act as a primary absorber.The extensive range of GUSTAFS panel perforation patterns, veneer finishes and jointing options enabled us to develop a precise and calming aesthetic to the high-performance absorbing and panelised skin, enhanced by the bespoke curved corner elements.We are extremely pleased with the final appearance of the GUSTAFS Panel System® which has helped deliver a stunning focal point to each of these primary public spaces within the new hospital.”

The Pôle d`Échange Serra is located directly opposite the Luxexpo exhibition and congress centre in Kirchberg, Luxembourg. The area combines a new bus terminal regional buses and city buses, a Park & Ride car park with around 600 parking spaces and two office buildings with a total area of approx. 8,000 m². With the help of charging points for electric cars, a small kiosk and high security measures at the bus station, the project aims to make the switch from car to public transport more attractive. Lindner Group was involved in the development of the office space. The originalcontract covered the floor and partition trades, including the installation of the NORTEC raised floor with fitted carpet and the use of timber and glass partitions. These were complemented by matching door systems and wooden wall claddings. Due to thecustomer's high level of satisfaction with Lindner's services, the order was quickly extended during the interior fit-out work: As a result, Lindner realised impressive Ecophon acoustic baffles for the meeting rooms. In addition, mobile partition walls should now find their way into the 4th and 7th floors. The room height of over 5 m on the 7th floor made the installation challenging: However, thanks to the static design and subsequent execution of a steel construction clad with plaster, the connection of the 4m high partition wall could be carried out without any problems. Another highlight of the interior fit-out are the wall absorbers in the meeting rooms, which also serve as acoustic pictures. The perforated CPL panel was created in cooperation with Topakustik using a new production method. The perforation pattern corresponds to a Morse code, which stands for the Luxembourg national anthem.
Terra-34 Architectural Grating used as facade for new extension at Donegal Garda Station

The new extension for the Donegal Garda is a prominent feature utilising materials that respond to its topology and enhance the building’s civic presence in the town. The dark coloured brick plinth of the semi-basement grounds the building while the upper floors which feature a facade of open mesh grating provide an open and transparent interface with the public whilst maintaining necessary security provisions.Lang+Fulton supplied the bespoke steel mesh cladding for the glazed upper floors of the facade. The grating achieves a contemporary aesthetic and delivers the practical advantages of protection and a brise-soleil solution, while achieving a transparency that offers the public an insight into the activities of the station; the degree of transparency and solar shading creating an interesting variety, dependent on the angle of view, the time of day and light conditions.The Terra-34 grating, which features an anti-climb aperture, was also used to create walkways, soffits and a secure enclosure around the roof-top plant. The gratings were made to 19 different custom-sizes and shapes for each floor with 3038mm high panels for the facade cladding. Slotted tabs were designed for fixing to the support steelwork. The material was supplied in a hot-dip galvanized finish to withstand the coastal environment.Donegal Town Garda Station has won 4 national awards including Best Cultural/Public Building (RIAI). Adjudicators said that, “The project stands out for its laconic civic presence and its no-nonsense adaptation of the spatial culture of a thriving historic town … the building demonstrates that thoughtful architecture can quietly and carefully edify our everyday culture”.

The White Rose Office Park in Leeds; is a purpose-built 27-acre business park owned and operated by Munroe K. In 2014, they unveiled a £12m office for the global banking giant HSBC.Utilising in-depth knowledge, that Munroe K had about their client and the local area; the project had a number of specific requirements that needed to be addressed from the start.The BriefSecurity and Aesthetics were the two key areas taken from the client’s requirements for their car park security fencing. These included the following:A fencing system that would provide open ventilation for the car park.Additional high security fencing to the rear of the car park due to the construction of plant and control equipment compounds.Anti-climb and anti-cut properties to all fencing systems.Aesthetically pleasing without compromising on the inbuilt security.After working through the wide range of car park security fencing systems in the CLD range, the client selected Safeogril Open Mesh Fencing for the front of the car park and Securus 358 Anti-Climb Mesh Fencing System to secure the rear. They required the front of the car park to look visually pleasing and; at the same time, fit within HSBC’s brand to complement the new offices. Alongside the aesthetics, the architects wanted the car park security fencing systems to still encompass a wide range of security features in order to keep the car park secure.The installation was completed by Davison Fencing, a member of CLD Systems Approved Contractors, working with ourselves and the architects for the duration of the installation process.

REQUIREMENT: Two temporary laboratories were planned for installation in the hospital parking lot.It was determined that a ramp with a wide platform was necessary to accommodate the diverse range of daily users of the system, including those operating patient-moving equipment, carts, and pedestrians accessing the cabins.END RESULT:A fully compliant ramp featuring an extra-wide metal walkway was designed and successfully installed. This product boasts a secure loading capacity of over one ton!FEATURES INCLUDED:Yellow Tread - this is a safety feature designed to help those with impaired vision identify the nose of the ramp or step. REQUIREMENT: In order to enhance wheelchair accessibility to the cathedral, it was necessary to install both internal and external ramps to overcome the steps.END RESULT:Great care was exercised when installing the ramps to preserve the cathedral's floors and walls. These ramps do not require any ground or wall attachments; once the components are securely bolted together, their weight ensures stability. Additionally, slip-resistant rubber tiles have been placed beneath each support foot.Should wedding parties wish to take photos at the entrances without the ramps in the frame, these systems can be easily disassembled before the event and reinstalled afterwards. Fast, sustainable construction of fibre reinforced floor slab for London academy school

This major redevelopment of Charlton Park Academy school involved replacing temporary mobile classrooms and a single storey building with a two-storey steel framed brick building to better meet the needs of students, teachers and carers. A structural flooring solution was required for use over precast planks, covering 800m2 on the ground and upper floor at a depth of 75mm to 120mm. Space and access would be challenging, due to the small footprint of the site, proximity to the existing school building and access from a busy main road. Given the large floor area, a traditional sand cement screed would have been very time consuming to place. Tarmac’s TOPFLOW SF a self compacting steel fibre reinforced concrete was chosen as the solution. Its flowing nature would allow it to be quickly pumped into place and adapt to the variable thickness criteria. TOPFLOW SF is designed to act as a structural topping with both, steel mesh & fibre reinforcement. The steel fibres added to the TOPFLOW SF gave its robustness and flexural strength as it was being placed over a precast plank system that could flex with loadings. They also reduced the risk of cracking. By replacing steel mesh reinforcement, it helped avoid problems with access, storage and handling and kept the site open for parallel trades. Using TOPFLOW SF rather than a sand cement screed or reinforced concrete, improved productivity and saved time. This saved 13 days or just over 2.5 weeks on the programme.

PROJECT BACKGROUND: The construction of weighbridges and a weigh cabin.The cabin will be elevated 1.5m above ground level on support columns.Lorries will drive up to the cabin for initial checks before the weighbridges are used to calculate the load by weighing the lorry when empty and when loaded.REQUIREMENT:A walkway around the cabin in a L shape with steps to allow the site operatives access. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:2D and 3D CAD drawings were created by our designer in-house. These were given to the client with their quotation.END RESULT: A Rapid Ramp platform was raised around 1.5 metres high and included steps. The appropriate height was reached with adjustable telescopic legs. Plus, cross bracing was achieved using longer length tubes to ensure rigidity under all platform legs.The system was completed within a quick three-day turnaround time.FEATURES INCLUDED: Infill Handrail - this product prevents users from climbing or falling through gaps.Yellow Tread - this is a safety feature designed to help those with impaired vision identify the nose of a step or level change.Trombone Ends - these are added to the ends of a step unit to prevent clothes catching.Mesh Platform - the self-draining mesh allows water to pass through rather than collect on the surface.1100mm High Rail – these handrails attach to any level sections.Continuous Handrail - this handrail system ensures users always have support to hold onto.Standard Colour: Black - Black is the standard handrail colour. Vehicle and pedestrian safety barriers for edge protection on perimeters, ramps and other areas in three multi-storey car parking at a new shopping mall adjacent to the London Olympic Park.Berry Systems installed one of our largest ever car park safety barriers projects at Westfield Stratford City with over 7 kilometres of Berry Beam barrier, all mounted on our impact absorbing spring steel buffers.The £1.5bn Westfield Stratford City complex covers an area of 1.9 square miles and houses 300 retail outlets, 70 food outlets, 3 hotels, multiplex cinema, bowling alley and casino. It also has 5, 000 parking spaces across 1 adjacent and 2 integral multi-storey car parks. The safety barriers were very carefully specified by architects: Buchan Group International. The car park structures are metal framed with concrete decks with an exterior expanded metal mesh surround and cladding. All floors have our Berry safety beams mounted on RB1X and GH spring steel buffers to provide full perimeter protection meeting BS EN 1991-1-1 and BS 6180 standards.All the ramps in the two overground car parks have curved Berry Beam barriers to match the varying radius of the ramps. On tighter bends and at ramp exits, chevron signs have been mounted directly to the barriers. All ramp returns and split level areas are protected by our barriers, again mounted on RB1X buffers with handrail extensions and anti-climb mesh.

The number of Davit Arms required for a project should not sound like the quintessential British question of "one lump or two" for your cup of tea.It should depend on the specific project parameters but it is a question we are often asked, even if the employer's requirements or access strategy specifically identify a quantity.There are however a few definitive requirements. If the system is designed for single users (due to roof/building structural load limitations for instance), then two Davits must be provided to facilitate safe rescue. Equally, although Davits are component form and portable, the units are not light to carry between buildings, might be too large for service lifts and no one even wants to think about the stairs - the buildings being cleaned by rope access for a reason!Additionally, the duty holder and building owner should consider cleaning times and crew efficiency. Responsible IRATA contractors operate in a team of three, with one level 3 supervisor and two operatives. With a single davit, two of the team are effectively non-productive.Finally, it can be that multiple outreach davits are required. The projection requirements can vary depending on rooftop socket locations, parapet sizes, and façade elements. For extended cleaning cycles, Davit arms should project so that there is a naturally extended reach.Leave the one lump or two questions for your cup of tea, or number or shots of espresso if you prefer……….

Access Self Storage Twickenham is situated on Rugby Road and serves the storage needs of Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames, West London and Surrey. The site offers 24 hour access, large vehicle access and customer parking; as such it is important that site has a secure perimeter with controlled gated access.
Jacksons were specified to install Barbican Imperial® fencing and gates combined with EuroGuard® Regular Mesh in order to improve access control and perimeter security at the site.

Across the main workspaces, SAS330 was installed presenting a pristine and uniform aesthetic which contributes to the open-plan design.
For the communal area, bespoke hexagonal SAS600 rafts were designed and manufactured to protect the specified lights. SAS810 Tricell was installed in the break-out area contributing to the sleek and intelligent design. Further floors were completed in early 2019 which introduced SAS330 Mesh in 12 meeting rooms.
This striking people-centric office space has won the Fit Out of Workplace Award at the BCO Awards.
Multi-Fold Gates at Elephant Park

Elephant Park is part of a £2.3 billion regeneration project in Elephant & Castle. It comprises a mixed-use development of 3000 new homes and up to 50 shops /retail units all centred around a new 2-acre park.
Bolton Gate assisted the Architect with the design of a large electric Multi-Fold Gate to the Service Bay which consists of twelve equal leaves each constructed from an SHS frame with 50 x 10mm vertical steel fins and internal mesh to prevent the ingress of birds.
Matching cladding and balustrades completed the elevation all of which were powder coated black.
The Atrium Building, Sandyford

SAS International delivered unrivalled metal ceiling solutions for a stunning refurbishment to The Atrium Building, Sandyford.
SAS was selected for its unique SAS740i linear ceiling solution with integrated lighting. This ceiling design, characterised by floating rafts, influenced the entire atrium design. Specified in a contemporary grey, SAS740i rafts were suspended 20m below the glass atrium room through a stainless-steel cable system.
Black SAS130 Mesh tiles were also installed to contribute to the industrial architecture.

Education specialists Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture specified Eternit profiled sheeting on the roof and facade to bring both aesthetics and practicality to the striking redevelopment of a nursery school in East London, Kintore Way Children’s Centre.The multi-coloured roof of the new, snaking extension, which focuses on green and blues to reflect the canopy of trees in a central courtyard and the nearby river, probably most reflects Cottrell & Vermeulen’s distinctive style which is typically promoted in the use of colour, shapes and components in their raw state.
Barrisol Light® - Brandhorst museum - Germany

The Contemporary Art museum of Munich was inaugurated last May. Its architecture is based on a design and ecological concept.
The architect Sauerbruch Hutton chose Barrisol Lumière® to light and enhance the exposed works of the XXth century among which the Andy Wahrol's famous paintings.
Indeed, Barrisol Lumière® diffuses the light in a sweet and homogeneous way on the whole exhibition space. Furthermore, the Barrisol sheets are 100%, recyclable and are so perfectly adapted in this modern building turned to sustainable environment.
Knocknagael Bull Stud Farm

Eternit’s fibre cement open protected ridges were used to create an effective ventilation system in the bull accommodation unit at Knocknagael Bull Stud Farm - ensuring a constant outflow of stale, moist air. The width of the air gap created by the open ridge was specifically designed for the number of bulls and size of the building. Profile 6 sheeting from Eternit was also specified for the roof, thanks to its durability and low maintenance costs, as well as its noise insulation properties.
TT Admix Specified For Major New Build Construction
Triton Systems
Triton has supplied 3,280kg of TT Admix, its BBA certified concrete waterproofing system, to a prestigious new build project in West London. The project is a new car dealership situated between the M4 flyover and the site of Brentwood FC's new stadium. The construction comprises a watertight concrete base with welded sheet piled walls and a watertight concrete capping beam to provide a Type B integral waterproofing solution to BS 8102 (2009). On top of the slab is a steel framed structure.
Metal roof & parapet coating project using Metalseal 20 from Liquasil

This project involved the removal of the existing factory finish to an industrial unit in the West Midlands, followed by cut edge corrosion treatment and full roof & parapet coating.
Once the original finish had been removed using high pressure jet washing, all of the end laps to the roof sheets were coated with SWT (Surface & Wet Tolerant) corrosion primer, to prevent further rusting.
Once cured, the roof was coated with the BBA Approved Metalseal 20 to a film thickness of approx 300 microns.
Intensive Care Unit, Harrogate District Hospital, UK

Calm and non-clinical environment for busy Intensive Care UnitChallengeHospital environments are created to heal; yet supporting both physical and mental health needs in clinical environments can be challenging. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Harrogate District Hospital required a refurbishment to its walls and wanted a non-clinical design, but with hygienic properties.ApproachThe unit had different areas with different functions – it needed to have hygienic, clean, wipe down walls which were also robust and could withstand bumps and scuffs. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the refurbishment needed to be completed quickly with minimum downtime to ICU. The team also wanted the unit to have a non-clinical feel.SolutionAltro Whiterock White, Altro Whiterock Chameleon, and Altro Whiterock Digiclad (Custom) were selected for the walls in the ICU. The hospital’s paediatric unit had Altro hygienic wall sheets installed previously and knew they were robust and trusted products. The ICU staff and project design team took time to select artwork of cherry blossom branches that would be cheerful yet calming for patients, as well as inspiring and uplifting for hardworking staff. The images were printed to create the Altro Whiterock Digiclad (Custom) wall sheets.

Solid-grade laminate at Doug Philips Ltd

Our team at Helmsman manufactured and installed 30 two-compartment solid-grade laminate lockers at Doug Philips Ltd. The specification of the lockers was 1800mm high, 300mm wide, and 450mm deep. The clients requested for the two-compartment lockers to be manufactured with an internal shelf and angled shoe tray within the lockers. Additionally, all the lockers had a perforated base which allows airflow into and out of the lockers.The body of the lockers was powder coated in ‘Black’ which is from our standard colours, whereas the laminate doors are in colour ‘Artic White’ by BioCarbon Laminate, which is a beautiful colour providing an aesthetic and organised area. The laminate lockers were completed with vinyl numbering as well as Lowe & Fletchers Nimbus combination lock in Black.

Duo D410/D411 Glass InfillDuo D431 Perforated Infill Top FixDelta Balustrades were pleased to play a part in of the large Birmingham BSF Scheme with the completion of several hundreds of metres of balustrades in this new build project. Balustrades were installed to far reaching street areas with feature stairs leading to 2nd floor. Continuing across atrium bridge links on both 1st and 2nd floors, several staircases, and external terraces the Duo system provided a focal point for the building.In line with Birmingham City Council’s requirements for schools, guarding to atrium edge and external terrace was required to be 1500mm high above FFL. A number of special access gates were required to match adjoining balustrades.

We’d never heard of the Williamson Tunnels in Liverpool. Now they’re truly ‘etched’ on our minds, thanks to an innovative architectural façade design. More than 2,000 perforated panels clad the car park with a design that represents the network of 200-year-old tunnels beneath Liverpool’s streets and rainscreen cladding on the stair core protect against the elements.“The façade looks great,” said Morgan Sindall Construction’s Senior Quantity Surveyor, Graham Golding, who singled out Maple for praise during what was a challenging build. “We had the Covid pandemic, weather issues, little bespoke changes and a myriad of other problems but Maple fitted in. Accommodating is the word I would use – they were one of the best (contractors) on site.”
