St Martin’s Courtyard, originally developed in 2011, has recently been refurbished. This is a mixed-use restaurant and retail destination and the architects, Brimelow McSweeney, wanted a particularly eye-catching new coating for facades and panelling enclosing the courtyard space and its entrances. The objective was a finish that would appear to change in colour and tone as the sun moves across the sky, finally being illuminated from within the panels as dusk falls. The SolutionWorking with the architects, we developed a bespoke textured red/gold powder coating within our Evolution range, a collection that reflects the beauty of natural metals and metal patination. Brimelow McSweeney and the developer visited our plant to see powder coating in action and discuss the shade they were looking to achieve. We made a range of Evolution sample panels and the final choice was a red/gold shade with a highly textured surface, rather like large golden rain drop. It seems to glow, with or without sunlight. We called it ‘Molten Rain’.Around 500 m2 of flat and perforated aluminium façade were coated. Flagship of the University’s Science Central site...The building is a living laboratory dedicated to the aim of making urban centres more sustainable for future generations.We were contracted to supply & install various major acoustic elements required on this project. From the get go, our client and architect loved Soundis Absorb-R WoodTec range due to their versatility, and the fact we were able to manufacture the products exactly to the project specific specification. One of the Soundis products from the range were the Absorb-R Micro Perforated Timber Panels which were located and installed on the curved rear wall of the auditorium. The timber core panels were faced with Micro Perforated Formica and the client decided upon the colour red which contrasted the other products within the auditorium tremendously. Another major element of our acoustic package were the Absorb-R WoodTec Grooved Timber Panels which were installed within the main classrooms and smaller teaching spaces to provide excellent working spaces for the students by reducing reverberation times and enhancing the quality of Soundis within the areas. The panels in these areas were RAL painted to the colour chosen by the architect to provide the envisaged aesthetic look and feel of the spaces. Finally Soundis Absorb-R WoodTec Timber slats were installed not only on the walls of the corridors and staircases from ground level all the way to the third floor but they were also used as freestanding dividers in large open atrium and circulation spaces throughout the Learning and Teaching Centre. These timber slats were manufactured the exact specification of what the architect wanted to create a modern but sophisticated look within the newly constructed building. All installation carried out by our installation partner UK Acoustics.

An architect designed, self-build house with annexe for a multi-generational family built to zero-carbon standards.The scheme’s design is influenced by the architectural vernacular of the area. The surrounding houses are a legacy of the Land Settlement Association scheme, with distinctive mansard roofs, steeply sloping gables and dormer windows, constructed in a simple red brick with terracotta plain tiles.The mansard is reflected in the new house with the roof extending down to form the walls. Instead of terracotta tiles, large format slate has been used to form a modern equivalent. The house is mainly slate tile; however, it was felt important to also reflect local brickwork. As such, brickwork was used for two huge brick-faced chimney stacks that rise through the gable.PROJECT INFOTo form a contrast with the very smooth grey of the slate, a textured red brick with slight colour variation was sought. White mortar lightens the brickwork while recessed mortar joints are used inside to provide shadow to each brick. Perforated brickwork surrounds the stone coping on both chimney stacks, adding visual interest to the building through both the materials and the shadows created by the brickwork perforations.The brick selected was stock thrown Hampton Rural Blend from Forterra’s Ecostock range. It has a rustic finish resembling handmade brick. Ecostock bricks are manufactured using the latest technology in sustainability and production efficiency, producing bricks with low embodied energy as well as advanced colour consistency, dimensional accuracy and quality.The structure incorporated huge amounts of insulation, a mechanical ventilation with heat recovery system, and a solar photovoltaic array at the bottom of the garden, along with a ground-source heat pump. These installations will ensure that the house generates more electricity than it could ever use.

Hydrotherapy has always been on the agenda at Vranch House, but this vital treatment has recently been given a new lease of life with a completely refurbished state-of-the-art indoor heated swimming pool, including Altro Whiterock hygienic wall sheet. “The walling choices were integral to this vision. To maximise animal health and performance at Knaptoft Farm, near Lutterworth, Eternit fibre cement roofing sheets were specified for all livestock buildings, due to the high levels of insulation and vapour permeability that they provide. As a local councillor, farm owner Neville Hall was also acutely aware of the visual impact that his new buildings would have and wanted the site to fit in well with the local countryside. To ensure this, he specified Eternit Profile 6 in Farmscape Anthracite and is very happy with the building’s final appearance.

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) operates services in 200 locations across Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. Bostik has supplied technical advice and subfloor preparation products to facilitate the installation of the flooring at a new school in Oldham, helping to overcome some difficult conditions and ensure the project was completed on schedule.The purpose-built, four-storey Oasis Academy Leesbrook building is now catering for 1,500 pupils aged 11-16, having opened its doors after a two-year construction period.Sedgley Flooring Solutions was contracted to install the flooring in the building – approximately 6,500m2 of vinyl sheeting and 3,500m2 of carpet tiles

Products donated by F. Ball and Co. Ltd. have been used as part of ‘The Secret Garden’, a charitable restoration project at Glenfield Hospital. Work commenced with the removal of carpet tiles and a small area of vinyl tiles, in addition to flattening of a high point. After ensuring that the subfloor was sufficiently sound, dry and free of contamination, Stopgap 1200 Pro was applied to the floor at a thickness of 3mm to create a base for new floorcoverings. Finally, vinyl sheet was installed, with joints welded and a silicone sealant used to affix the floorcovering to skirting boards.

Leidsche Rijn Center is a mixed development in Utrecht, Holland and is being constructed on top of and around the Leidsche Rijn tunnel. Monolab Architects were seeking a modern folding door design for one of the buildings whose elevation featured a repeating vehicle motif formed from powder coated sheets with a pattern of 3mm diameter holes to achieve the desired effect. The design also featured matching transom and side panels and complemented the surrounding structure. Bolton Gate were specified to produce this door and assisted their local agents with the installation.

This 4,000 square metre roof in Lichfield, completed by Projects UK Ltd, was in need of refurbishment and Liquasil's BBA Approved Metalseal 20 was specified for its 20 year guarantee against manufacturing defects. This asbestos roof is being cleaned using a closed box pressure wash, with all waste water being filtered and recovered for re-use. Once cleaned, the roof is coated with the BBA Approved Asbestoseal system which includes: SWT CORROSION PRIMER - fully rust and wet tolerant, the primer is applied to all metal fixing to stop further corrosion. NON-SAG SEALER - is applied to all fixings and small holes and cracks to permanently seal them. ASBESTOSEAL 20 is brush applied to the roof sheets to provide a new finish.

The striking First Direct arena boasts a unique 'honeycombed' external façade that has been based on a mathematical diagram to create a pattern of varying cellular shapes, which are further complemented by glazed panels and the use of coloured lights.Creating such an unusual façade was no easy feat - Lakesmere worked very with main contractor BAM Construction to devise a specification that would satisfy the vision of the extensive design team (headed up by architects Populous), while also providing a practical and economical solution.The Lakesmere team therefore suggested the use of a built-up cladding system featuring aluminium shingles and perforated rainscreen cladding, which come to life through the use of kaleidoscopic lighting."By far, Fixfast are the best company to deal with for fixings"Richard Wingate - International Director

BACKGROUND: The facility will open at the Eastgate Car Park as part of the Government strategy to improve localised access to coronavirus tests.REQUIREMENT: Fully compliant ramps and steps in double quick time to allow the site to open before the end of the week. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A few hours after receiving the enquiry and measurements, CAD/technical drawings and a quotation were drawn up and sent to the client.  END RESULT: The measurements were received Monday evening, and all components were picked and packed Tuesday morning and delivered to site for Wednesday morning.The systems were fitted by our installation team Wednesday, ready for use by Thursday at midday.We were true to our name, delivering the project rapidly in less than a week. Electric loft ladders offer a superb solution for easy access to loft spaces. Especially for rooms with a very high ceiling, such as this property in Edinburgh.The challenge…Premier Loft Ladders received an enquiry from Magnus in Edinburgh who discovered the loft access specialist through an internet search. Magnus’ goal was to purchase a sturdy retractable ladder as part of a larger project; altering the loft space to function as a study, separate from the living area below.The ladder had to offer reliable, safe access to and from the loft whilst bearing in mind a high ceiling of 3.5 metres with restricted space for the ladder to deploy when opening. Ease of operation was also of great importance to Magnus so that deploying and stowing the ladder away could be made as effortless as possible.The Solution…With a heavy-duty aluminium structure and space saving qualities, the Supreme Electric from Premier Loft Ladders was chosen for this application.The Supreme Electric comes with a reliable motor, hard wired to the main supply via a control box and backup battery so it can be deployed and retracted effortlessly with the push of a button! Hard wired switches were also supplied, one on the landing and one in the loft area next to the opening so the ladder can be operated from above and below.The ladder itself features large treads (140mm deep) and a telescopic hand rail as standard, with an additional handrail added for this specific application providing safe, easy access to and from the loft.Installation Challenges…After the Supreme Electric ladder had been installed, there was found to be an issue preventing it from operating automatically. During this time Magnus could still use the ladder manually, thanks to the override option and counterbalance spring design.We worked with Magnus and his electrician to try and resolve the issue. This included checking warning indicators and working through a trouble-shooting guide. Unfortunately, it was not possible to fully diagnose the problem.As such, we sent replacement components for the ladder which were successfully installed by a different firm to the original installation team. After this the ladder operated perfectly, for which Magnus was very grateful.The results…A perfect solution was achieved for Magnus. The Supreme Electric ladder was positioned comfortably in the available space and gave him a safe, reliable access to and from the loft.

In a complex new build roofing project that was deemed almost impossible, Contour Roofing stepped up to the challenge with a Sika Sarnafil membrane. With truly stunning results, the project impressed the judges of the prestigious NFRC UK Roofing Awards, winning the Single Ply category. In partnership with Sika Sarnafil, Contour quickly presented a new bespoke specification; an adhered system using Sarnafil G410-15ELF Lead Grey with a polyester fleece backing as the main roof sheet for a flawless result and Sarnafil G410-15EL Lead Grey for all the detail work flashings.

The Metro Centre is over 22 years old and the building had been experiencing leaks, a problem which was exacerbated by the numerous changes in plant installations on the roof. The original felt waterproofing had reached the end of its working life and a system was required that would keep the building watertight, help comply with current building regulations, and bring the insulation standards up to Part L. A Cold Bonded Built-Up Roofing System was specified for the project consisting of 40mm Decotherm insulation, a Carrier Membrane, and a seamless Decothane Gamma 20 waterproof ‘cap sheet’.

In the summer of 2007 the country witnessed extensive flooding with areas in England experiencing “over two months rainfall in just 14 hours.” Loss of water and electricity supply was experienced with thousands of homes. Providing protection against a 1 in 1000 year flood event involved building over 1 kilometer of reinforced concrete and sheet piled walls. As well as protecting the site from future flooding, the team at RHI Industrials worked in partnership with Lochrin Bain to ensure the security fencing system was fully integrated with the substations new flood defences.

The construction of a new pig unit has enabled Anthony Robinson to build on the early success of his new pig finishing business. Profile 6 roofing sheets were used on the build to help with insulation and reduce the high levels of condensation to ensure optimum pig performance, and help reduce the build-up of dust and air-borne bacteria. As such, a raised, protected open ridge has been installed on the build to help draw in fresh air from the sides of the shed, forcing stale air up and out through the top of the building.

Howe Green manufactured over 100 Visedge Floor Access Covers for Bristol’s £430million state-of-the-art Southmead Hospital. A heavy duty and tamper-resistant solution was required to provide access to underfloor drainage systems. Developed for use within flexible sheet flooring systems and supplied with a double seal Howe Green’s Visedge Covers offered the highest standards of hygiene and security, ideal for a hospital environment. A number of 7500 Series Stainless Steel Access Covers were also required for installation in the grounds, where a heavier loading was required.

High performance sheet flooring from Polyflor was used to create a statement design floor in The Armoury Café and Kitchen at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in Cambridgeshire. Designed by London based SHH Architecture & Interior Design, this refurbished restaurant area at Britain’s largest aviation museum features a monochrome floor design which was created using 300 m² of Polyflor’s Classic Mystique PUR vinyl flooring. Installed by flooring contractors Key Floors, the Smokestone, Nocturne and Quartz shades form concentric circles that echo the Royal Air Force logo.

The SSE Hydro is the biggest performance arena ever designed by Foster + Partners. Lang+Fulton have now supplied a decorative solution for the stage entrance constructed from their STEREO-KINETIC cladding system. Each stainless steel sheet is engraved with name of an artist, commemorating their performance. When the Hydro first opened in 2013 Lang+Fulton supplied the Roma-3 grating fence which secures the perimeter of the complex and storage compounds, as well as a Micro-15 balustrade for the elevated walkway which connects the car parking facilities with the venue. Our team at Helmsman manufactured and installed 49 two-compartment bespoke Z lockers, which is a wet specification as they are ideal for environments where it is humid, our aluminium & stainless-steel body with solid grade laminate is a perfect choice. The bespoke Z lockers were requested to have an internal self and fully perforated base which allows airflow through the lockers.The laminate Z lockers were installed with stands, 1 nest of 1, 2 nest of 2, and 14 nest of 3. The specification of the stand was 461mm high overall, 298mm wide, and 450mm deep with 1m rivets,Our Z lockers are a fantastic choice as it allow two people to store their belongings in the footprint of one locker, the design of this locker is modern, innovative, and stylish. Additionally, users would be able to hang their clothes in a taller section of the locker, which reduces the risk of wrinkling.

Planters at first floor level encircle the building to provide low level greening, as well as a base for the climbers.Bringing nature to this urban landscape, the green wall not only makes the office look spectacular, but also provides a habitat for wildlife and significantly improves the building’s carbon footprint. The shade and evaporative cooling of the plants also help to cool the building in summer and insulate it in winter, helping to improve thermal efficiency and save energy costs.

This microbrewery needed floor drainage that could be custom made to fit around their brewing equipment, and manage high flow rates and even higher temperatures. Long-lasting quality was key for this fast paced, pedestrian heavy environment.BLÜCHER facilitated the design of an L shaped channel in grade 304 stainless steel, complete with a mesh grating. This bespoke channel allows ease of access to all the brewing tanks within the area, without comprising on flow rate or heat resistance.The installation of the custom L shaped channel has met the unique requirements of the customer.
