The metal gutter to this gymnasium in Eastbourne was corroded and leaking. Liquasil's Gutterseal system was specified because it could easily cope with some unusual protrusions present in the gutter. Heaqvy rust was removed and the surfaces treated with SWT Primer - a marine quality corrosion treatment. Joints were sealed using Non-Sag Sealer, which has 1400% elasticity and then the entire gutter was coated with Liquasil One to provide a flexible, seamless and permanent gutter lining.

Product UsedCemfloor C30F6The iconic Grade II listed Battersea Power Station is at the heart of one of central London’s largest new developments. The £9 billion project will see the creation of a vibrant new destination for London, housing a community of homes, shops, cafes, offices, leisure and cultural venues, withover 19 acres of public space. As part of the redevelopment of the power station, a lightweight floor build-up was required.Cemfloor C30F6 was chosen for this project as part ofan ultra-lightweight flooring solution and was supplied by Capital Concrete and installed by B&K Systems.The new proposal for Battersea was for energystore TLA to be installed at various thicknesses to level out the existing un-even substrate with 30mm depth of Cemfloor CT C30 F6 screed then bonded directly onto the insulating screed. This system had the following benefits of the original specification:• Significant weight reduction: the original specification had a weight of 300kg/m2 whereas the new proposal had a weight of 120kg/m2.• Greatly reduced installation time: the original specification was a semi-dry system, which would have been manually placed and compacted. The proposed products are both flowable systems that are pumped into place and tamped to provide a smooth level surface.• Vast reduction in deliveries of materials to site and minimal storage on-site. • Reduced cement content leading to a lower CO2 footprint.• Faster turnaround time allowing follow-on trades to progress with works without any delays.• Lower curing time of the new system allowed the floor to be loaded with MEWPs faster.• Significant cost savings were also achieved.Following the installation of the system in-situ crushing resistance testing (ISCR) was carried out throughout the floor area; with each test easily meeting the CAT Arequirements. The system was delivered ahead of schedule and a significant time saving was achieved compared with the original specified floor build up. The slab was covered with various types of flooring all of which were compatible with the screed topping.

This helped to keep the project on track with its tight building schedule.Lewis Deck construction offered a strong light weight flooring option for the large pour area. Oval VillageKennington North LondonScreed Supplied By: Capital ConcreteScreed Installer: The Progressive Group Ltd.Product Used: Cemfloor NH C25F5Berkeley Group is one of the UK’s leading developers and has won numerous awards for its commitment to quality, design and customer service.Oval Village, located next to the famous Surrey Cricket Grounds, and built on the old Gas Works, is a new luxury development of 1300 homes, along with Retail, Food, and Office spaces.As part of the project brief, there was a need to install a low depth flooring solution. Due to its high flexural strength Cemfloor NH provided the solution as it allowed a 40mm screed depth to be installed, without compromising onquality. Thanks to the pumpability of Cemfloor, Progressive Group were able to pump to height, and install the screed over 18 stories, with the material being pumped over a distance of 160 meters without any issues.The main advantage Cemfloor has over other flowing screeds is the quicker drying times, and that it can accept foot traffic after 24 / 48 hours, meaning that construction could continue quickly and efficiently to meet the projectdeadline.

The metal roof was first prepared using high powered jet washing equipment, to remove loose and flaking materials. Liquasil corrosion primer was applied to the corroded cut edges and the entire roof was sprayed with a single coat of Metalseal 20. The metal box gutter was heavily corroded. The loose and flaking material was removed and Liquasil’s Corrosion Primer was applied all along the gutter. The joints in the gutter were sealed with Liquasil’s unique Non-Sag Sealer and then the entire gutter was coated with Liquasil One to provide a seamless gutter finish.

This project involved sealing a metal gutter in Glasgow. Leaks were present at most of the steel profile joints and rust was evident throughout. Heavy rust and soiling was first removed and then the entire length of the gutter was treated with Liquasil's corrosion primer, to prevent further rusting. Once cured, Liquasil Non Sag Sealer was applied to all joints. Non Sag Sealer has 1400% elasticity, to cope with extreme thermal movement. The whole gutter was then coated with Liquasil One to form a seamless and leak-free gutter lining.

This project in Derbyshire involved treating cut edge corrosion, re-coating the roof and lining the gutters. Products used were * Metalaseal BBA Approved metal roof coating system * SWT Primer (to treat rust in the gutters and cut edges) * Liquasil One and Non-Sag Sealer to line the gutters. The project is covered by the unique Liquasil Latent Defects Guarantee, which is written specifically for Liquasil and underwritten by an A-Rated, Lloyds of London insurer.

Hydrostop AH-25 product was chosen to refurbish 450m2 of roof at the Sacred Heart Primary School in the Bridgeton area of Glasgow. Areas of the roof had been leaking, leading to considerable water damage and disruption to some classrooms. The priority for the roof works was to procure a waterproofing system with minimal hot works that would cause as little disruption to the school’s everyday activities as possible.

Nestled between parklands, at a mere stone’s throw from Lea Valley and Hackney Marshes, and in the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with its world-class sporting facilities, an incredible new neighbourhood is arising. Chobham Manor is the first of five new developments to be built in this history-rich area in Stratford, east London. 6,800 new homes will be constructed in total over the next 20 years, along with health centres and multi-purpose community spaces. SOPREMA provided the waterproofing solution and insulation materials for Chobham Manor, as well as collaborating closely from the design stage onwards with Taylor Wimpey, one of the top-five housebuilders in the UK, and SOPREMA-approved contractor Skyler Contracting.

The metal roof to this large distribution centre was affected by cut edge corrosion and all of the metal valley and eaves gutters were affected and leaking & corrosion. The gutters were first cleaned and dried, then treated with Liquasil’s corrosion primer. All gutter joints were coated with non-Sag Sealer, a highly elastic silicone polymer, before the whole gutter was coated with Liquasil One to provide a seamless gutter lining to prevent further leaks. Liquasil systems are covered by a unique Latent Defects Guarantee.

Refurbishment of the walkways was required as part of a wider upgrade programme delivered by main contractor, Thomas Sinden. The existing asphalt covering had been damaged and the resulting water ingress was not only causing leaks into the properties below but was also compromising the building fabric with signs of damp in the external walls. The project had to be carried out while the apartments remained occupied so it required a solution that could be installed quickly with minimum disruption to residents and excellent performance over an extended service life.

All apartments are accessed at the rear of the building via stairs and walkways and the existing asphalt walkway surfaces had blistered, causing various leaks and creating a trip hazard for residents. There was an urgent requirement to carry out the walkway refurbishment while the building remained fully occupied and with minimal disruption for occupants. The building’s flat roof had also reached the end of its service life, requiring a refurbishment to protect the apartments from water ingress.

2020 General Binding RulesFor decades, millions of septic tanks have been installed throughout the UK in rural and urban areas. Septic tanks are known to be ineffective at processing sewage to modern environmental standards, causing long-term damage to the country’s natural water infrastructure and wildlife.It was therefore inevitable that new rules and a code of conduct would be introduced to prevent the effects of wastewater pollution once and for all; The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2014 came into force on 1 January 2015 creating the General Binding Rules (GBRs) for septic tanks or small sewage treatment plants for domestic use. These rules are designed to reduce the level of pollution from sewage in the nation’s watercourses.The rules state that any existing septic tank discharging to surface water, ie, to a water ditch, stream or river, etc, must have been upgraded or replaced with a new package sewage treatment plant by 1st January 2020.  Failure to comply can incur significant fines from the Environment agency and delays in selling impacted properties.OptionsCurrent methods of discharging wastewater from septic tanksPrevious to the General Binding Rules, wastewater from septic tanks was typically discharged in the following two ways:Drainage fieldWastewater is released through a network of pipes in surrounding sub-soils, providing an additional form of treatment for the waste from the septic tank. This helps to ensure that the wastewater being dispersed does not cause pollution.Septic tanks discharging into a drainage field are not affected by the 2020 septic tank regulations.Directly to surface waterWastewater flows through a pipe directly into a stream, river or lake. Binding rules state that direct discharge from a septic tank into a watercourse is not permitted.So, what are your options?1. Connect to the main sewerThis may not be possible in remote locations, although pump chambers can be used to direct wastewater to the mains sewer.2. Install a drainage field(Designed in accordance with BS6297)This allows the septic tank to discharge wastewater into the ground instead of surface water. In many cases, the installation of a drainage field is not possible due to site constraints such as space and/or the soil not having sufficient drainage potential (ie, rock, clay, high water table).3. Install a Uni:Gem septic conversion unitA Marsh Uni:Gem can be installed and connected to a pre-existing septic tank. This treats the wastewater to a sufficient quality allowing it to be discharged to surface water. See below for further detail.4. Upgrade your septic tank to a Marsh sewage treatment plantThis eliminates the need for a drainage field and ensures that the wastewater is fully treated before being discharged. Options include the Ensign, Ensign Shallow and Ultra Poylok L.Uni:Gem★Marsh Industries, the leading UK manufacturer of package sewage treatment plants, produces over 3000 units per year. The modernisation programme of the multimillion pound project involves significant remediation of previously abandoned land, followed by construction of six circular primary settlement tanks (PST) and a large activated sludge plant (ASP) with 10 circular final settlement tanks (FST). This work will lead to significant environmental benefits for the site, improving the outflow, and subsequently the quality, of water entering the Manchester Ship Canal.

The design in this project was to have a Green Roof and warm roof system The aim was to place standard green roofs which retains water but allows most of the rainfall to run into buried SuDS tanks. Following consultation with ABG the design was changed to the ABG Blueroof system. The primary advantage of the system is that utilising the roof construction for water storage reduced the need for underground attenuation tanks. The simplicity of the design allowed for attenuation capacity and green roof installation at the same time saving the client time and money.

Moreland Primary School is a purpose built school, nursery and Children's Centre requiring a multipurpose usable outdoor space. Due to lack of space, the ground attenuation tanks planned would reduce site storage and limit access to other trades, therefore delaying the project, The challenge was to develop a storage/discharge system which wouldn't impact the project and be sensitive to the local biodiversity action plan.
