The Canada Water Masterplan is a significant urban regeneration project in Canada Water, Southeast London. The development will see the creation of around 3,000 new net zero homes, circa one million sq. ft of retail, leisure, entertainment, education, and community spaces, and up to 2.5 million sq. ft of workspace. Furthermore, encapsulated within the 160 acres of existing green space, will be the first new London high street for a generation as part of 16 new streets across the masterplan, a new town square, and 12 acres of new open space including a 3.5-acre park.Situated on Surrey Quays Road, London, is the recently restored former Docks Office. The 120-year-old Grade II-listed building features 19th Century architecture and was once the base for the Surrey Commercial Docks which operated in the Rotherhithe Peninsular for decades. Fast forward a century and the Docks Office is now the marketing suite for residential property sales at Canada Water. The restoration project was approached sympathetically, with an overarching goal to return it to its former glory, whilst respecting its historical significance. The exposure of the building’s original brickwork pays homage to this and elegantly portrays its unique character and charm.Supporting effective people movement within the marketing suit is a Cibes C1 Pure Cabin Lift. Onyx Apartments is an 11-storey building located on the Regent’s Canal banks, offering 117 bespoke homes. The development was designed as a modern, elegant and professional living environment. Comfort and safety were top priorities in bringing this project to life and Reynaers products were used to realise those aims. CS 86 ‘High Insulated’ aluminium window system offers an energy-efficient option, and CP 155 ‘Lift and Slide’ aluminium door system creates maximum glazed areas while also maintaining comfort. Onyx Apartments is a great example of combining elements of luxury and practicality, bringing a fresh perspective to the area.

The non-profit organization Living Architecture has realised four special holiday homes across England, each one is an extraordinary example of contemporary architecture, designed by leading architects. The most spectacular of the projects is the ‘Balancing Barn’ in Suffolk (Uk), designed by the Dutch bureau MVRDV. In the 30-metre long house, which juts out 15 metres over the edge of a rise, Reynaers CP 155-LS (Lift & Slide) was used for the large sliding windows. The large protruding section meant that it was possible to place another large window in the floor as a complement to the architectonic spectacle.

Linkwood Drive is a development of 134 homes for affordable rent in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow for both Cernach and Glasgow Housing Associations. A mixture of family houses comprising two, three and four bedroom properties as well as cottage flats and single storey homes for wheelchair users were constructed over several phases by McTaggart Construction, with whom Viridian Solar signed a group deal in April 2019.

This project involved a penthouse with a huge roof terrace. The existing deck was dilapidated and needed complete replacement. The existing decking needed to be lifted, cut up and removed. The terrace was jet-washed and sealed. Using ipe tiles on top of adjustable pedestals keeps the tiles out of standing water and creates space underneath for cables, etc. Rooftop terraces are difficult to access. 500x500mm timber tiles are much easier to manually handle and transport than long plank decking. The tiles aren’t fixed to the pedestals, making them future-proofed.

An effective sustainability strategy, using environmentally-aware manufacturers, is now key for architects and specifiers to help mitigate the impact of sustainability throughout the building lifecycle. Moving walkway installation at 5 Rise Shopping Centre in Bingley, which provides the majority of retail for the town. All external finishes on the moving walkway had to be water-resistant resulting in a spectrum of watertight materials from galvanised and satin stainless steel to vulcanised synthetic rubber, aluminium and glass. Stannah also tailored the pallet with an anti-slip coating to maximise passenger safety.

Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea Football Club is located in Fulham and is one London’s top sports venues. Alfresco Floors were commissioned by Chelsea Football Club to supply and install over 430sqm of EBEMA Rockstone concrete paving on Buzon pedestals to a newly refurbished pitch-side terrace. The terrace areas located directly behind the pitch-perimeter advertising boards was built up to 200mm to create a raised terrace specially designed for wheelchair users.

The car dealer Kronsbjerg in Odense, Denmark, is a family owned company. Kronsbjerg was established in 1922 and is now run by the fourth generation with three branches on the Danish island Funen. Over the years, they have sold and serviced several, different car brands. In December 2015, Autohuset Kronsbjerg started selling and servicing yet another car brand in their department in Odense. Taking on this new car brand meant that existing facilities became too small. Therefore, Kronsbjerg decided to invest in a new, beautiful building of approx. 1500 m2 , which could accommodate both management facilities and exhibition areas for the existing and new cars. The new premises are built in split levels between the two exhibition areas that have a level difference of approx. 50 cm. Therefore, it was necessary to create accessibility for people with walking difficulties and wheelchair users – as well as to meet the Danish regulatory requirements for accessibility in new buildings.To negotiate the height differences Kronsbjerg chose the LP7 platform lift from Stepless by Guldmann both because of its elegant and light design but also because of the plug and play construction that has a very low entry level of only 50 mm. This allows for a short ramp and no need for placing the platform in a pit.  

Client: RL HarrisonContract value: £50kProducts used:3kN loading rectangular post balustrade with glass infill panels to viewing areas1.5kN loading 48mm diameter stainless steel balustrade to main staircaseWe were appointed to provide more than 90 metres of balustrades and 25 metres of handrails to Burton Rugby Club’s new Battlestead Croft site in Burton-on-Trent. This project involved supplying and installing balustrades and handrails to the viewing areas and main staircase of the new facility – with two important factors to consider: ensuring we stayed within the client’s budget, and selecting the most suitable products to provide an optimum viewing experience for visitors. The initial design drawings showed a vertical bar system along the viewing area, but this was not aesthetically pleasing and would have limited the view of the pitch for wheelchair users. We worked closely with the client to find the correct solution – as structural glass would have exceeded the client’s budget, we chose a balustrade system with 60×30 rectangular posts that are capable of achieving 3kN loading, with clear toughened glass infill panels. We also increased the height of the handrails, both for additional safety and to ensure it would not obscure the view of the pitch for wheelchair users. 

What has been the true impact of 12 months of remote working on UK office staff? A recent YouGov poll by bathroom designer and manufacturer Geberit shows a workforce missing their colleagues and longing for a return to face-to-face meetings. With more than half of us missing the work-life balance that the office offers, its findings also reveal very little resistance from staff when faced with the prospect of a return to the office. Here, Sophie Weston, channel marketing manager at Geberit, reveals more about its insight and the impact of hygiene in the office moving forward – especially the washroom.

Buzon UK were commissioned directly by Chelsea Football Club to supply and install the DPH pedestal system to support over 430sqm of EBEMA concrete paving (supplied by Alfresco Floors) to a newly refurbished pitch-side terrace at Stamford Bridge. The terrace areas behind the pitch-perimeter was built up to 200mm to create a raised terrace specially designed for wheelchair users. Buzon pedestals are adjustable from 11 to 1120mm and thanks to their intrinsic strength and reinforced structure are recommended for use with heavier floor coverings such as large format concrete pavers and high live loads.

REQUIREMENT: Two temporary laboratories were planned for installation in the hospital parking lot.It was determined that a ramp with a wide platform was necessary to accommodate the diverse range of daily users of the system, including those operating patient-moving equipment, carts, and pedestrians accessing the cabins.END RESULT:A fully compliant ramp featuring an extra-wide metal walkway was designed and successfully installed. A bright colour such as yellow is generally the easiest to see because of the colour's ability to reflect light.

For most of their long history, Bathams had to move the huge casks manually, rolling them across the floor and lowering 54 gallons of beer one cask at a time with ropes and chains. This method took a lot of time and posed serious health and safety risks for staff. Recognising the need for an improved system, Bathams approached Penny Hydraulics searching for a way of moving casks in their brewery and some of their pub locations. They wanted a solution that was unique to their operations, but was also easy to use, ultimately protecting staff and reducing delivery time.

League regulations demand the installation of a rigid mesh fence with a spectator handrail around the perimeter of the pitch to a height of 1.1 metres. Zaun completed the complex supply and installation as changing ground levels required adaptation to ensure maintaining the 1.1m height around the whole pitch. Zaun contracts manager Steve Hancock visited the Haven Sportsfield Ground to take all of the site details for manufacture and supervised the installation, which was completed a week ahead of schedule.

Plus, the product is manufactured from galvanised steel.Galvanising is a process where a protective coating of zinc is applied to prevent rusting and to kill moss.

When architects ACME designed a new landmark retail facility in Leeds, the aim was to build a shopping centre fit for luxury brands. dormakaba supplied HSW-R glass sliding shop front systems, ES200 automatic sliding door entrances & MUNDUS patch fittings, to ensure a high performance access solution with elegant appearance. 150 panels across the arcade, was installed. HSW-R systems include an ITS96 door closer, concealed within frame for discreet appearance. The system’s double glazed panels are supported by aluminium ceiling suspended track avoiding any obstructions for wheelchair users. This creates an ideal access solution for retail entrance settings.

Laboratory taps, laboratory water taps, laboratory gas taps……they all have handwheels and for the keen eyed amongst us those handwheels have coloured indices on them. …..but what do they mean?Dead simply they tell the laboratory tap user what service is being offered. ATi Supplied anti-slip stair nosings for another AFA ‘Access for All’ footbridge at Liphook station in Hampshire. This is part of a Network Rail replacement project worth £5.3million, the bridge is set to provide better journeys for passengers and improve station access. The structure features a lift on each platform to provide the step-free access for disabled users. The footbridge with runs over two platforms, upgrading CCTV and lighting simultaneously.

SIEGENIA tilt-and-turn window, lift-and-slide and entrance door drives can now be integrated into the TaHoma smart home system from Somfy. This allows users to network SIEGENIA solutions with their existing home control system. The entire home can be automated and conveniently controlled via an app. This creates attractive overall solutions, which significantly contribute to more room comfort and therefore to an oasis of well-being at home.

The customer wanted to build a deck on the first storey of a period building in Chicago The windows opening out on to the roof were positioned considerably higher than the rooftop itself, which meant that the structure deployed to support the deck would also need to raise it up almost a metre to meet the threshold. We recommended a number of our heavy-duty Megapads ranging from 711mm to 876mm to account for the gradual fall in the roof. The customer chose not to envelope the pedestals because he liked the industrial look created, in keeping with downtown Chicago.

HLM Architects were asked by Wokingham Borough Council to create a community centred and modern building to replace the old and dated Activity Centre. HLM’s design is inspired by the centre’s beautiful and natural setting and supported the Council’s commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030.Celebrating the natural lakeside surroundings, the modern £2.4million scheme provides educational and leisure facilities for the local community in Dinton Pastures County Park for adventures on water and land. The new centre includes an activity hall, adults and children’s changing areas, dual-use teaching and conference spaces, and a coffee shop opening on to a spectator terrace overlooking the lake and park to cater for all the needs of the users and visitors.HLM worked with Reds10 to complete the structure offsite, with the facade applied later on-site. The designed is noted as it doesn’t look like the often maligned rectangular ‘shipping’ container shape which comes to mind when off-site production is mentioned. The size and presence of the two-storey building is specifically designed to be in harmony with the surrounding landscape and sits like a hidden oasis nestled between the treeline and shoreline. 75 per cent of the building was completed offsite; 16 modular frames were built and then transported to Dinton Pastures Country Park and then lifted into place. The facades were then added to the substructure on site. The modular approach significantly reduces the carbon emissions in the construction process.EQUITONE was used on the ground-level of the building. The high-density characteristic of EQUITONE worked well for the high footfall areas that will be getting a lot of contact, and where durability is crucial.The colour was considered a sympathetic complement to the FSC-certified Siberian larch chosen for the upper building, which is designed to weather overtime and blend in further with setting. Another important consideration was that EQUITONE is naturally resistant to many living organisms (fungi, bacteria, insects, vermin, etc.) and requires no harsh chemicals to clean.

Mega Balance is the new adjustable height pedestal for paving and decking systems that does three jobs all in one. Firstly it achieves both the ultra heavy duty weight tolerance of the Wallbarn Megapad by tolerating over 2 tonnes per unit before breaking and having a self-levelling headpiece for smoother, more high end surface finishes. Secondly, it can become both a self-levelling or a fixed headed pedestal within the same unit by adding "the grey nut". By inserting and locking into place the grey nut into the centre of the headpiece, users can lock off the head to create a more rigid pedestal. Instead of having to order different pedestals to create these changes, both options are available in the same product. Thirdly, when paving, a brilliant new mechanism is provided to deal with rocking or moving slabs over time on paving areas. Slabs will often move over time for various reasons (structural movement, traffic etc.) and operatives have traditionally had to lift multiple slabs, adjust the height of the pedestals and then relay the slabs. Now, using "the yellow key" major labour saving and health & safety improvements are gained. Insert the yellow key into a small slot in the centre of the headpiece to turn the thread of the pedestal and adjust the height with the slab still in position.Mega Balance is available with a standard paving headpiece, a decking joist headpiece and a clip headpiece designed to hold Wallbarn's profiled aluminium rail. Added benefits include steeper, narrower weight bearing fins on the outside of the central column which means the bases can be cut back closer to that column for paving up tot he wall or parapet. A stronger, tidier finish on such details is achieved.Mega Balance offers much greater flexibility and scope for constructing suspended paving and decking schemes.

REQUIREMENT: Replacing a worn-out wooden ramp with a compliant Rapid Ramp System.The system had to be strong enough to withstand impact from electrically operated wheelchairs, support users in the case of a fall and have handrails that confirm with BS 6180: 2011. Users march on the spot with their feet in the footboards and their hands on the handrail. This engages the core and gets the legs and lower body moving in a brisk aerobic workout to keep the heart, lungs and circulatory system healthy.Slalom Skiers, which encourage the body to move side to side for good stability and balance, are at either end of the Activ8 multi gym in an arrangement which enables pupils to encourage and motivate each other.The multi gym is completed with a double Waist Twister, wheelchair accessible Tai Chi Discs and a wheelchair accessible arm bike.The Waist Twister, as the name suggests, mobilises the waist and lower body which is complemented by the Tai Chi Discs and Arm Bike for the upper body.As part of our high quality installation service, our teams arranged for the disposal of old equipment and embedded grass mats around the new outdoor multi gym to protect the ground from heavy use.
