The archive’s single-storey extension was clad in Corten steel Hook-on cassettes on both the walls and the mono-pitch roof. These weathered steel panels naturally oxidise to form a patina veneer, giving the façade a distinctive “rusted” look that shifts from a vibrant orange before settling to a dark red after several years of exposure to the elements. The new Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital at Salford Royal Hospital, part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, is set to provide much needed additional capacity to care for and treat major trauma patients. BAM were appointed to lead the construction of the new facility as part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme. The project required completion of a building within both the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) and the tight programme timescales due to the urgent need for extra capacity.With the hospital committed to achieve an 80% reduction in the carbon emissions they directly control by 2028 – 2032, it was also essential that the facility was well insulated to reduce the demand on its heating systems. To deliver this, whilst meeting the project requirements for a European Classification (Euroclass) A1 or A2 rated façade insulation, K-Roc Rainscreen Slab was fitted as part of the building’s rainscreen façade.

The first homes at Barratt Homes’ new energy efficient Hanham Hall development feature Posi-Joists as the floor system of choice. Designing and manufacturing gearbox motors for industrial uses, Parvalux Electric Motors Ltd is a 75-year-old British manufacturing firm based on the south coast of England.To accommodate existing operations and add capacity for the future, Parvalux repurposed an 8.75-acre brownfield site in Poole that combines both an HQ and factory onto the same location.Work began in 2020 on the 160,000 sq ft site - which includes a £3 million investment in new manufacturing capabilities.Putting it at the forefront of efforts to decarbonise construction, the eco-friendly building has achieved a net zero rating.ChallengeStructural steel and industrial cladding specialists Jade-Aden Services were contracted to deliver the complete design and build of the new facility. Selected through previous working relationships with locally based larger companies, Jade-Aden brought in a local supply chain to complete the project, ensuring high quality throughout the entire project build.SolutionThe large roof and wall area gave Jade-Aden the opportunity to install Kingspan composite panels with the use of Fixfast DrillFast A4/316 stainless steel composite fastener range. Some of our most important public sector assets are held within the healthcare system so choosing the correct specification is critical. Often these buildings host patients or the latest medical equipment, and this centrally funded NHS project at Chase Farm Hospital was no different. This particular project hosted an array of plant and equipment for the NHS and our lightweight DANOPOL HS 1.5mm mechanically fastened membrane was chosen as the waterproofing system to be installed onto the structural metal deck. The scheme also featured a tapered insulation scheme in partnership with Kingspan Insulation designed to 1:60 falls and 0.30 w/m2 K u-value. When installed to structural metal decks, all the mechanically fastened components are mechanically fastened to the crowns only, so careful consideration must be made to ensure that any mechanical fasteners coincide appropriately. A project-specific wind uplift calculation was completed by our technical team which provided detailed instructions and fastening patterns for the mechanical attachment of both the waterproofing membrane and tapered insulation scheme.
