Kingspan insulates beachfront Grand Design

A range of premium and high performance products from Kingspan Insulation has been installed on a stunning new beachfront home on the Isle of Wight, featured on Grand Designs. This includes Kingspan Kooltherm K8 Cavity Board, which was used to insulate the majority of the walls throughout the property, and Kingspan Kooltherm K7 Pitched Roof Board, which was were applied to the ground floor overhang. With thermal conductivities as low as 0.020 W/m.K, the products delivered the required thermal performance with a slim build-up, helping to maximise space within the rooms.

Kingspan TEK travels through time at Seaton Jurassic

The Kingspan TEK Building System and Kingspan TEK Cladding Panel have been installed as part of the new Seaton Jurassic visitor centre in Devonshire, forming the gateway to the region’s historic Jurassic Coast. BREEAM ‘Very Good’ was a central requirement on the project, and the Kingspan TEK products delivered the excellent thermal and airtightness performance that was needed in a single operation. As a result, costs were reduced and speed of construction was significantly increased when compared with a traditional stud wall approach.

Royal Military Academy given luxury finish with Kingspan OPTIM-R

The former Royal Military Academy overlooking Woolwich Common finds a new place in history with its stunning restoration, featuring Kingspan OPTIM-R Flooring System. The vacuum insulation panel system was chosen to most of the available space. The original beam and block flooring limited the ability to dig down, so installing the Kingspan OPTIM-R Flooring System in a 30mm thickness allowed for the maintenance of the existing threshold levels whilst also achieving excellent thermal performance.

Kingspan Flooring For New Civic Offices In Rochdale

Nearly 13,000m2 of Kingspan access flooring is being installed in new civic offices for Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council being built by Sir Robert McAlpine. The Kingspan RMG steel encapsulated flooring has a finished floor height of up to 400mm to contain a range of M&E services, including a sealed air plenum system to provide air conditioning, pipework from a biomass boiler to generate sustainable heat, and further pipework carrying rainwater collected from the roof and recycled for toilet flushing. Kingspan began the installation towards the end of March and it is due to be completed in 20 weeks.

Kingspan Access Flooring Supplied For New Headquarters For York Council

Over 12,500m2 of Kingspan access flooring is being installed in new civic headquarters and customer service centre for York Council on the site of a grade 2 listed former railway station within the historic city walls. Northern Access Floors Director Steve Robson said: “The flooring in the redeveloped area is installed over listed floorboards, so a low cost, fit-for-purpose flooring system was required, Kingspan’s particleboard panels met those needs perfectly. The new build element of the project will have much more usage and the panels will be installed on concrete, so steel-encapsulated panels were specified.”

As residents have a varied degree of mobility, care was taken to ensure a level threshold on all doors to external spaces. To achieve this, whilst keeping the area well insulated, the Kingspan OPTIM-R Balcony & Terrace System was specified. 40 mm Kingspan OPTIM-R Balcony & Terrace System was installed on the terrace below Kingspan Thermaroof TR27 LPC/FM. Kingspan OPTIM-R panels were also installed on the balconies, with matching thicknesses of flex infill strips laid around the edges. A further layer of Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM was installed above this, providing a fall to the gutter.

To ensure these new homes both are energy efficient and warm, the project team sought to surpass the Building Regulations. This led to the specification of Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board, which boasts a thermal conductivity of just 0.18 W/m.K across all available board thicknesses. In addition to its outstanding thermal performance, Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board also features a water–tight, vapour–open polypropylene fleece outer facing which protects against moisture penetration. As a result, it can be installed with a void of just 10 mm, limiting the thickness of the external walls.

National College for High Speed Rail

The National College for High Speed Rail contains a variety of learning spaces inside a visually striking yet simple building shell formed from two intersecting blocks. The main entrance is defined by a simple yet striking cantilevered upper floor, providing a sheltered space in front of the building. To insulate this, Kingspan Kooltherm K110 Soffit Board was used. The boards were fixed directly to the soffits using thermally broken fasteners, making installation quick and simple. Kingspan Kooltherm K110 Soffit Board is a premium performance insulation board. It achieves a thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m·K across all thicknesses.

The size and poorly insulated design of the Avon Fire & Rescue Service's existing building makes it uneconomically expensive to maintain and run. To address this, the building is being demolished in stages with a new fire station being built on a much smaller footprint. The energy performance of the building envelope was a key consideration. A target U-value of 0.23 W/m²·K was set for the walls of the building. To help achieve this Kingspan Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board was specified. This has allowed the Service to not only save lives, but also energy and money.

The three-storey structure designed by FaulknerBrowns, includes library and exhibition space, IT suite, 3D printers, and café. The development, completed in October 2016, is part of a £100 million regeneration masterplan which partners South Tyneside Council with Muse Developments. Creating a curved structure can pose a challenge, but the Kingspan TEK Cladding Panel was successfully engineered to provide a smooth, highly insulated exterior envelope. To achieve this, the structural insulated panels (SIPs) were designed and factory cut into narrow widths. This allowed them to be quickly and easily fixed to the concrete frame.

Kingspan Light + Air has recently designed and installed a bespoke solution to satisfy the unique and technical requirements of global pharmaceutical company, Astellas Pharma Inc. Working from the design stage, Kingspan Light + Air provided detailed technical support using building information modelling to showcase the potential and effectiveness of rooflights in regard to energy efficiency. Following an in-depth review of the initial proposal, Kingspan Day-Lite Kapture rooflights were installed to maximise the amount of useful daylight in the warehouse, whilst minimising demand for artificial lighting.

East Preston Infants School

Within an educational environment, natural light creates a comfortable space which can have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of students and staff. When the existing bitumen roof at East Preston Infant School came to the end of its service life, naturally the decision was made to replace the existing roof and upgrade the rooflights. Kingspan Light + Air introduced 23 Kingspan Classic Skylight Domes into the building enabling the school to embrace natural light, ventilation and smoke management performance benefits.

Lycee Lucie Aubrac High School

The new Lycee Lucie Aubrac high school in Paris is an environmental friendly building with a Net ZeroEnergy objective, to reach a neutral balance between energy consumption and production. The premises are organized around a long inner street, covered by a monumental glass rooflight. The smoke ventilation and natural ventilation system provided and serviced by Kingspan Light + Air, is designed with 26 units of Kingspan Optima louvred windows integrated into photovoltaic glass rooflight, as well as façade air inlets. The opening smoke vents were connected to STG control panels - MZ2 and Compact.

Daylighting Solution for Nickel 28

When proposing the architectural design, one challenge for Nickel 28 was how best to implement effective lighting into the large warehouse facility. Aiming to limit reliance on electric and artificial lighting in an effort to reduce energy consumption, daylighting solutions became a key consideration. Kingspan Light + Air, understanding the needs of the client, delivered a bespoke solution that satisfied the specific needs of the warehouse facility by helping to maximise on natural lighting. Implementing the Kingspan Day-Lite Kick wall light system horizontally across the loading bays in the warehouse enabled the facility to maximise on natural light without glare.

One of the most innovative project features is the distinctive dome-shaped facade, made entirely of glass and steel. Our team worked with the architects and project team to specify and install over 100 Lumera ventilation windows. The Lumera ventilation windows also operate as an integral element of a wider Smoke and Heat Exhaust Vent (SHEV) system.

Hull College Refurbishment

When planning the refurbishment of Hull College, the 1970s building needed to embrace a modern architectural trend with updated energy efficiency solutions and added health and safety benefit. With an ambition to embrace as much natural light as possible and to create a well ventilated environment for study, the architect specified Kingspan Light + Air due to its ability to offer a full range of daylighting and ventilation solutions that would adhere to the requirements of the college whilst integrating smoke management.

Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory

The Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire is recognised across the globe for its innovative research across a number of scientific fields. The lab employs over 1600 scientists and, as its work has developed, it became clear there was a need for a new, flexible space for testing the latest equipment. Oxford Architects created an iconic, curved design for the R105 Facilities Support Building and, in a break from the standard metal-clad facades of the surrounding buildings, specified a colourful façade using Kingspan Day-Lite Klick wall lights.

Bloomberg’s European Headquarters opened with excitement in October 2017. The marquee building in the heart of London provides new o?ce space for Bloomberg’s 4000 London based employees. We installed over 37,000m2 of Kingspan raised access ?ooring and 34,000m2 of Kingspan Attiro real wood engineered ?oor. The combined systems allow quick and easy access to the steel encapsulated ?oor panels and the under?oor void whilst delivering 98.5% score against the BREEAM sustainability assessment method.

V&A Dundee, the £80 million museum rated ‘Excellent’ at its design stage BREEAM assessment, was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates with PiM.studio Architects and James F Stephen Architects. Maurizio Mucciola, Director at PiM.studio Architects: “Kingspan RMG600 and Attiro was used on the second-floor circulation, foyer and galleries. The raised floor and Attiro system was chosen to provide flexibility, especially to the gallery spaces which might need to be reconfigured for different exhibitions.”

Havas Media Group is a global network of entertainment, media and communications agencies, that has recently opened its new ‘HKX’ village in Pancras Square, London to unite twenty-four of its UK operations in a stunning new European headquarters. Given the nature of the fast-moving office environment at Havas, the combination of 14,000m2 raised access floors and 3,000m2 of Attiro magnetic engineered timber (supplied by Fieldmans, one of Kingspan’s supply and install partners) allows for the easy reconfiguration of office layouts and furniture, as well as providing instant access to the underfloor void.

Dalmunach Distillery : Carron, UK

The new distillery sits along the bank of the River Spey and is capable of producing up to 10 million litres of spirit annually. Formed in the shape of a leaf of barley, this project was inspired by the core ingredients used to make traditional scotch whiskey. Henry Moore Archive Foundation : Hertfordshire, UK

The archive’s single-storey extension was clad in Corten steel Hook-on cassettes on both the walls and the mono-pitch roof. These weathered steel panels naturally oxidise to form a patina veneer, giving the façade a distinctive “rusted” look that shifts from a vibrant orange before settling to a dark red after several years of exposure to the elements. Barratt Code Level 6 Homes Feature Posi-Joist

The first homes at Barratt Homes’ new energy efficient Hanham Hall development feature Posi-Joists as the floor system of choice. Each home is constructed using highly insulated materials and is fitted with a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system, which is why Posi-Joist was the natural choice for the floor system. Kingspan Potton have been involved throughout the design and delivery of the project, supplying both Structural Insulated Panels and the Posi-Joist floors.

When Bill and Angie first moved to Thorpe in 2002, 10 years later and with their retirement in sight, they knew they had their dream location, but refurbishing the existing building would have been challenging.
