In 2019 Inpro were asked by Skanska to tender for an expansion joint product line addressing the exterior cladding of this unique facility. At that time, several other manufacturing companies were being considered for the wide ranging scope of movement joints required. However after in depth interviews, only Inpro was able to offer all the complex joint solutions required in one primary supplier.Detailed Sustainability product information was submitted and verified by third parties.Complicated Shop Drawings and take-offs of the massive 6-building involved depicting multiple complicated transitions between varying substrates, differing products and a range of geometries for the custom-made solutions.Demonstrated our ability to overcome complex technical and field-related problems.Were involved with hours of online meetings with the main stakeholders- Skanska technical teams, the Architectural team and the Installing Contractor in a collaborative approach to implement best practice and minimize risk.This was an Inpro team project including Senior Product Management, Sustainability team, estimation and commercial management who all played an important part to land this iconic development with SKANSKA.

Roofing slates by Welsh Slate star in presenter’s new TV programme.Roofing slates by Welsh Slate were the material of choice for TV property expert Sarah Beeny’s own home-in-the-making which is the star of the Channel 4 series “Sarah Beeny’s new life in the country”.The “Homes on 4” series follows Sarah and her family (husband and four sons aged 11 to 17 years) as they swap London life for a new start on a 220-acre, semi-derelict former dairy farm in Somerset, where they are building a modern and sustainable stately home of their dreams.

Underhill House, a strikingly-modern earth-sheltered home, was the first house in England to achieve certified Passivhaus status - widely regarded as the world's leading standard in energy efficient construction. Underhill House was developed underneath and adjacent to a derelict 300-year old barn. Sensitive restoration of the existing barn and innovative design ensured the project has minimal visual and environmental impact. Not only was the external form of Underhill House designed to minimise visual impact on the surrounding landscape, the interior finish and construction materials were carefully chosen to make the building as environmentally sustainable as realistically possible.

SureSet FlexiSet, made of 50% recycled car tyres, was installed to support the sustainability part of the brief given by New Forest District Council. SureSet resin bound paving improves the drainage and surface water issues in the car park by allowing rainwater to flow through the paving instead of running off onto the car park surface. After standing vacant for some years, the iconic Tower Gardens Pavilion in Skegness has been completely refurbished to create a multi-use council facility. Delivering flexibility to the main hall, partitioning expert Style was contracted to install a Dorma Hüppe Variflex moveable wall, successfully creating one large and one smaller room that can accommodate two events running concurrently. A sustainable and cost-effective option, the Variflex elements are manufactured separately to the frame, which means only panel facings need to be changed in the future, to match a new interior décor for example, or if one becomes damaged.

Surespan supplied a number of circular dome rooflights with triple layers to The Key, situated in the new Science Central development at Newcastle University. These large 1500 (49”) and 2000 (79”) diameter polycarbonate domes feature triple layers providing a U-value of 1.8 W/m²K. The rooflights were supplied with electric opening actuators to allow ventilation to control the temperature of the fabric structure. Surespan Dome skylights were specified due to their high sustainability and small impact on the environment. The triple layers ensure compliance with energy-saving requirements and offer excellent air tightness.

SAS International delivered visually-striking, sustainable ceiling solutions in V&A Dundee. To complement the shape of the building SAS600 ceiling rafts were chosen. Presented with a unique mesh texture, SAS600 accentuated the open-plan layout of the light foyer. SAS730 was selected for its alternative aesthetic finish and ability to allow airflow in areas such as the exhibition space. Providing a more premium motif, SAS740 tapered baffle were specified to ensure easy maintenance without compromising the product’s geometric design. Working with the design team, SAS developed a bespoke extrusion shape for the linear ceilings to meet this requirement.

Harris Academy Secondary School is a 6 form-entry secondary school in London. The project brief was developed with London Borough of Sutton and Harris Federation, together with multiple stakeholders and the surrounding community. Architype, a top London based architect, were asked to design a new school which could meet Passivhaus standard and also go on to meet BREEAM requirements. The requirement of this high quality development was the integration of environmental sustainability, user comfort and well-being. To meet these requirements they needed a high quality roof specification which could offer thermal insulation and a high performance waterproofing solution.

Designed by Page and Park, this £21 Million project involved refurbishing the existing atrium space and constructing a stunning new 3000 sq.m. three-story building.  Inspiration was taken from the stunning location on loch Airthrey. Blending seamlessly into the landscape, the exterior features granite rainscreen, grey stone cladding and Senior’s SF52 curtain walling, chosen for its elegant slim sightlines and enhanced thermal performance.  Sustainability was further enhanced by installation of Senior’s patented ultra thermally efficient PURe® windows with an innovative thermal break, and robust SPW501 Doors, certified to PAS24 and Secured by Design standards. 

The new city centre campus at Cardiff & Vale College sees a distinctive wedge shape building designed with a high focus on sustainability. Furnitubes designers worked closely with the project contractors and Architects involved who were keen to encourage open welcoming spaces for students and members of the public. Part of the solution included a bespoke Elements Podium platform, manufactured in iroko timber slats with steel supports. The platform created an informal seating provision to encourage interaction and socialisation amongst students. Also supplied to the development were a number of contemporary seats and benches to suit the character of the scheme.

Designed by Hopkins Architects, Brent Civic Centre was constructed in 2013 as part of a major modernisation and centralisation initiative. It was the first public building to achieve a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating to make it the most sustainable building of its kind in the UK. Housing Brent’s civic, public and administrative functions, including community hall, library and civic chamber, alongside retail space and landscaped gardens, the 40,000 m² building provides a modern hub for the local community. Carea panels can be quickly installed to minimise labour costs and are also exceptionally low maintenance. Highly resistant to the climate, they can be easily cleaned to extend their life cycle even further. Their non-porous composition also ensures that they are unaffected by graffiti, again making them ideal for buildings with public access such as schools, colleges and universities.Carea panels are available in over 30 different shades and a range of textures. Providing excellent thermal efficiency and eliminating cold bridging – as well as comprising around 95% natural minerals – they are highly sustainable and an ideal choice for contemporary construction.

Accoya was used to construct the external windows, window reveals & doors. 38 Accoya fixed & opening windows were installed, & 22 glazed door leafs. They will require little maintenance over their lifetime due to the process in which the wood is made. Caspar Rodgers from Alma-nac commented: “We chose Accoya because we wanted to build using eco-friendly materials that could withstand the variable weather conditions that are characteristic of England’s southern coast. Accoya is well-respected within the industry as a highly sustainable product that has high levels of durability & stability"

Accoya has been selected as the ideal decking material for the Oosterdokseiland in Amsterdam. Designed by engineers IPV, Delft in the Netherlands, 300 metres of Accoya was used in total for the project. Each of the Accoya deck planks for the Jetty measured 145x35mm. The benches, (130x150mm) are also made of Accoya wood. After researching Oak and other wood species for the Jetty, De Boer and De Groot civil works chose Accoya due to its dimensional stability, long service life and sustainability credentials. The Accoya planks were screwed onto purlins which were then connected with anchors to the concrete floats.

The new store at Coventry was built using environmentally sustainable building materials. As the first city centre store, it also provides contained parking for 800 cars. Lang+Fulton supplied ventilation screens to the ground floor parking which extended to form a barrier to the first level. Terra-34 grating was chosen with a 34x100mm aperture to comply with anti-climb guidelines. Panels were custom-sized to continue the aesthetic of the surrounding cladding material and mounted to conform with the horizontal and vertical joints. Over 200m² of screening was supplied in a hot-dip galvanized finish incorporating two emergency exits.

Italia-Corten louvred screening makes a striking statement at a technology park and science hub, which is being developed with an ambitious commitment to renewables. The louvre panel system has been used to contrast with stainless steel mesh, etched with an artwork of forest trees. The client specified a strong hi-tech identity with a visible natural imprint, using materials capable of expressing sustainability and modernity. The Italia-Corten, which has a high recycled content, 100% recyclability, requires no finishing treatments and is maintenance free, fulfilled the brief for a material with a low environmental impact and a strong aesthetic.

8 Bishopsgate, a 50-storey tower located on the corner of two of London’s most prominent streets, is the UK’s most sustainable speculative office tower and the tallest building ever awarded BREEAM Outstanding at design stage. Developed by Mitsubishi Estates and Stanhope and described as a building full of innovation, the 570,000 sq. ft building features London’s highest solar panels, in addition to 18 litres of fresh air per person being drawn from outside every second, as part of its design ambitions to achieve both low embodied carbon and to be low-carbon in operation.

University of Wales in Swansea has invested £8million into the refurbishment, restoration and extension of the Grade II listed former Central Library building to create the new Institute for Sustainable Design. Devised by Powell Dobson Architects, the development incorporates a stunning twin wall façade featuring AluK curtain walling systems, complementing and adding a new dimension to the original design. The modern, double skin façade extension provides an additional 657m2, and incorporates a new reception entrance, workshops, teaching spaces and design studios. The original circular reading room has also been restored and made available as a public venue.

The ChallengeThe redevelopment of Clyde Campus is part of the fifth stage of a larger programme initiated by Glasgow City Council to re-build and modernise its pre-12 and special education estate. At the heart of the project is the Council’s desire to create an effective educational environment which takes a holistic approach to the design process by combining social, economic and environmental goals, resulting in a sustainable architecture, culture and landscape.The SolutionThe architectural response to the site has a central assembly hall and four radiating wings. This radial plan divides the site and avoids large elevations to the street edge, which is surrounded by low-density, two-storey housing. The design aims to create a new, accessible, attractive, welcoming and sustainable campus with shared community amenities with clear public frontage to the building.The facades have been composed to reflect the differing functions in each wing through choice of material and scale.The majority of the building is clad in a bespoke blend of Forterra’s Dark Tame Valley and County Multi Dragfaced Blend bricks, which evokes a sense of solidity and robustness. Lightweight metal cladding breaks up the brick expanse, helping to identify the campus’s different functions.The BenefitsThe new campus has successfully brought together nursery and primary age schooling under one roof with a range of enhanced facilities for pupils and for the wider community. The choice of building materials is an integral part of defining the different areas on site, from gym halls, to Early Years and classroom blocks.

Kings College London Residences manage accommodation for students at sites across central London. They provide facilities, support, and a programme of activities to help ensure their students have the best possible university experience. With close proximity to the cycle super highway, cycling is a fast, fun and practical solution for students’ transport needs. However, for many students, bike maintenance can be a barrier to cycling.Sustainability is a key theme within KCL residences and the university as a whole. Throughout February the university runs daily events on the topic, including a seminar on cycling in London. With this in mind, the residences team identified our Deluxe Bike Repair Stations as a great way remove the bike maintenance barrier, and to boost cycling culture within their student and staff cohorts.KCL GDSA Residences chose Cyclehoop following similar successful projects undertaken on KCL campuses. Our teams surveyed various locations across two sites, facilitated the eye-catching custom KCL branding, supplied the units and completed the installations. The repair stations offer a dedicated space for bike maintenance, convenient access to high quality tools and a focal point for the cycling community to meet and connect.The bike repair and pump stations are a brilliant asset to enhance our students’ university experience. With the goal to create one of the most prestigious residential addresses in the North East, the £38 million Echo 24 project demanded a powder coating solution with unrivalled durability and a finish that was second to none. Following its impressive track record on other high-profile jobs, the metalwork fabricator on the project handpicked the Sherwin-Williams approved-applicator, Architectural Powder Coatings, to deliver the perfect finish.In total, a ton of metallic silver Syntha Pulvin powder coatings from Sherwin-Williams was applied to all external metalwork on the residential building, including windows and the curtainwall – covering almost 10,000 square meters of metal.As well as giving this Sunderland landmark a stunning look, the Sherwin-Williams highly-durable polymer coating came with a 30-year guarantee – five more years than its previous warranty. This made it one of the most reliable coatings available in the industry.

The new Hi-Speed Rail link about to go into service between Tangier and Casablanca is a feat of engineering accomplished by a consortium of Moroccan and European firms, supplied by local Hempel teams and ACQPA certified in 4 different countries. The 350km line includes 286 new infrastructures and 13 viaducts, where Hempel participated in collaboration with our long-standing customers, Spain’s URSSA and Portugal’s Martifer, on what is already acclaimed as “the world’s longest rail viaduct.”A contract requirement was that the 90,000m2 of steel surfaces be coated to an ACQPA-certified system, which in this case consisted of 2x100μm coats of Hempadur 47200, followed by 50μm of Hempathane Topcoat 55210. The steel structures were shop-coated in Europe with Hempadur 47200, our two-component, epoxy that forms a tough and hard-wearing coating in extremely short drying times, making it ideal as a primer or intermediate coat for in-shop applications.

Swansea Council has transformed the support it delivers to pupils either outside or at risk of leaving mainstream education by building a brand new £9.64M school. When ‘scoping-out’ the project Swansea Council in conjunction with the contractor, would specify over 2000m2 of Gradus carpet tiles for the flooring element of the project. PROJECT OVERVIEW We were awarded the prestigious project to provide our cleanroom system for a new Compound Semiconductor Innovation Centre which will provide a collaborative environment for innovation, testing and research. The world-leading Catapult Innovation Centre will drive advances in compound semiconductor technology and applications, enabling the UK to spearhead future technologies, including autonomous vehicles, 5G mobile networks, renewable energy and the Internet of Things (IoT).SCOPE OF WORKOur scope of work encompassed design and installation of our Mediline partitioning solid and glazed systems to create an IS07-classified cleanroom along with a number of laboratory environments, including a photonics lab, a power electronics lab, an advanced packaging suite, an evaluation lab, a radio frequency lab and a high-power lab. We also provided pedestrian doors, our Metal Pan Ceiling and fire rated vision panels.

Bream Street is a mixed-use development of seven buildings, including 202 modern 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, retail, employment and leisure spaces. Overlooking the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this development includes 30% affordable housing. The scheme consists of demolishing a post-war commercial building to deliver a series of buildings set around three shared gardens within walking distance to Hackney Wick Overground station.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 20 was specified by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris due to it being the ideal overlay floorboard for acoustic applications. ScreedBoard 20 was laid upon the first floor over PIR to achieve U Values, as the build could not accept a wet screed due to weight restrictions upon the ground.L&Q were awarded this 5,500m² contract to construct this development in Fish Village within Bow.

Pear Tree Court is a stunning care home in Waterlooville, Hampshire, which offers a range of care in beautiful surroundings. This care home has the latest in luxury facilities, a café, hair salon, gardens, cinema, its own pub, and 72 en-suite bedrooms over three floors. The home is divided into smaller suites, each with its own lounge, dining room and TV lounge and every bedroom is beautifully decorated and furnished.Cellecta’s ScreedBoard 28 was specified due to it being an award winning 100% recycled, reinforced, non-combustible, calcium sulphate floorboard, ideal for a multitude of new build and refurbishment applications. ScreedBoard 28 was chosen in this project due to its outstanding acoustic performance, ideal for a busy care home!CastleOak Care Partnerships were awarded this 2,376m² contract to construct this care home.

Croft Gardens is a four building student accommodation at King’s College in Cambridge, achieving full Passivhaus Classic standards. With 12 rooms across three floors of three crescents and a villa, along with the Victorian Holmcroft building which provides a library, laundry room and common room area, Croft Gardens provides 84 homes for graduate students. Including graduate rooms, communal facilities, landscaping and external works, Croft Gardens will be carbon negative for the first 7-10 years of operation.Cellecta’s HEXATHERM XFLOOR 500 was specified by Feilden Clegg Bradley due to its high resistance to compression and closed cell structure that provides unrivalled resistance to water absorption, making them ideal for residential applications. These insulation boards are used under a concrete slab to comply with part L Building regulations.Gilbert-Ash was awarded this 650m² contract for this development at Barton Road.

Timber Yard consists of two residential buildings made up of a collection of 379 modern apartments in Birmingham’s Southside district. The East Block features stylish one, two and three bedroom apartments, while the West Block includes a mix of studio, one and two bedroom apartments; both buildings surround a private courtyard garden. This development provides leisure facilities such as a gym, concierge services, a club lounge and screening lounge, and parking. The location is pedestrian friendly, with Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Moor Street walkable within 10 minutes.Cellecta HEXATHERM XFLOOR 250 was specified by Claridge Architects on this project for its high resistance to compression and closed cell structure that provides unrivalled resistance to water absorption, making them ideal for residential applications.Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital were awarded this 7,500m² contract to construct this development.

The new £140 million Macallan distillery and visitor experience on the Easter Elchies estate near Craigellachie in Moray features Armourcoat Surface Finishes.Macallan is a luxury single malt Scotch whisky brand, with leading positions in some of the world’s most significant markets including the USA, Taiwan, and Japan. The distillery is designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners, who were selected to lead the project after an international competition.Over 400m2 of custom coloured Armourcoat Spatulata polished plaster has been applied to the curving staircase walls, boutique store, lift lobbies and reception. Spatulata is Armourcoat's own superfine marble stucco paste developed from traditional materials and manufactured in the UK. It is trowel applied in numerous fine layers by skilled Armourcoat applicators to create a highly polished decorative surface that adds a touch of luxury to interior spaces. A busy Leeds Freightliner container terminal located to the South East of Leeds needed replacement of a number of sections of the external paving. The site is subject to constant traffic and extreme loading, with loading vehicles weighting up to 100 tonnes when carrying a container and daily use by HGV’s. Tarmac’s TOPFORCE fibre reinforced concrete offered the ideal solution. Although TOPFORCE concretes can be used instead of conventional steel reinforcement in some applications, in this case it would be used for added durability and crack resistance in a pavement design containing two layers of steel reinforcement mesh within a 300mm slab. The fibres within TOPFORCE provide three-dimensional reinforcement throughout the full depth of the pavement. An External Distribution Warehouse Heating Solution was required by Sports Direct for their main distribution warehouse facility at Shirebrook, Derbyshire. The warehouse being 156m x 134m x 17m with minimal internal space was an ideal application for TEx air rotation units.A key factor is choosing this technology was that they had already experienced the efficiencies of such product in their other facilities. 2 x TEG41 – Heaters Externally Mounted and 2 x TEG 61 – Destratification Units – Externally Mounted were installed at the facility by Imtech with a BMS Integration and Control system employed.Installation time was less than 2 weeks, including flueing and weatherproofing and now the warehouse at Sports Direct distribution centre has required heating level to keep stock and employees at a adequate temperature. The external installation has allowed for more internal space and the PPC colour of the external units blends into the exterior building design.

Goodluck Hope sits in an enviable position on the banks of the river Thames, directly opposite the 02 Arena. This flagship project from the Irish developer, Ballymore, is a prime example of stunning contemporary design with an industrial edge. Using a mix of blue and green façades, interiors feature bright, colour palettes interspersed with splashes of polished brass in both the kitchens and bathrooms.Towelrads have worked with the M&E subcontractor, Borough Engineering, on every phase of the waterside development and supplied Multicolumn radiators, along with chrome and white towel rails, to the private and shared units. This unique island development features an eclectic mix of contemporary buildings including suites, 1,2-, and 3-bedroom apartments, lofts and townhouses. With so many different plot types, most sizes throughout the project have been made to order with vertical and low-level radiators supplied, some up to 1.6m long.
