Those lucky enough to be staying the night or two are shown to a sumptuous B&B suite upstairs.January 2020 saw Byfords renovate the ‘conservatory’ area of the restaurant, adding an impressive open marble-topped serving bar, behind which are positioned coffee machines and everything needed to make the ever-popular hot drinks throughout the day. One element of this key area that also needed upgrading was the water boiler. Due to excessive scale damage it was repeatedly out-of-use and the taste of the water it dispensed was increasingly unpleasant. PROJECT OVERVIEWHaving a strong reputation for developing innovative design-led partitioning solutions, Norwood was given the challenge of creating an acoustically sealed teaching pod areas within the iconic Round House grade II listed building at Derby College. The project was commissioned in consultation with Bowmer & Kirkland and Maber Architects.OUR SCOPE OF WORKWe demonstrated our ability to introduce fully demountable and relocatable teaching pods into a grade II listed building, with the benefits of their obvious stunning visual and acoustic appeal. Whilst the solution emphasises the importance of using a design-led partition solution partner, our on-site manufacturing facilitates allowed delivery of finished materials direct to site, thereby minimising on-site disruption. Furthermore, the incorporation of electrical and mechanical equipment within the partition design was a significant to the overall project finish. We provided our Mediline solid and glazed partitions, PodSolve, doors and walk on ceilings.

Due to the pliability of Furnflex, the liner was able to take up an oval shape in the chamber giving it the full 350mm required. This building is an extremely busy high-profile office block therefore minimum disruption to day to day business was required.Statement of workFollowing an onsite survey, Furanflex was deemed the ideal solution to line both chimneys. The installations were carried out over two weekends, one for each chimney, with no disruption to the office operations. The project completed on time and within budget.

National Trust owned, Saltram House is a magnificent stately home in Plymouth. Home to the Parker family for several generations, Saltram comprises an elegant Georgian façade built around a much earlier building. One of many National Trust premises to get a renewable makeover as part of a general drive to improve the environmental credentials of its buildings, Saltram is now home to a biomass system. Plumbed together using Geberit Mapress Carbon Steel, the new heating consists of 220kW and 95kW boilers fuelled by pellets.

There are two options to compensate for the heat loss in hot water distribution pipes: using a temperature maintenance cable or a re-circulation pipe. Which option is more sensible from an energy point of view, when using a condensing boiler for hot water generation? A study by the Technical University in Dresden addresses the question of which option is more energy-efficient.The results presented show that a single pipe hot water system that compensates for heat losses with a self-regulating temperature maintenance cable is a better solution.

Edinburgh based football club, Heart of Midlothian Football Club (Hearts FC) is a city institution and its Tynecastle stadium is classed as a ‘must-visit’ destination for any football-mad tourist. The recent multimillion pound redevelopment has seen it undergo a major transformation to ensure visitors have the most memorable and safe experience possible.It’s no surprise that football fans want refreshments while at the stadium, so the concourse houses a number of food and drink kiosks around the ground. Our slim-eco door profiles were chosen and also provided with our unique TightSeal system, minimising any gaps around the doors. In addition to the door profiles, directional activation units were installed, contributing even further to eliminate unnecessary opening cycles.

A new mixed use development in East London, which features apartment blocks and individual residential plots along with an underground car park. This development lacked sufficient substation capacity for the electric vehicle charging infrastructure required to meet London planning conditions. This case study shows how we were able to prevent installing a further substation or having to upgrade existing power supply by load managing the load allocated to the electric vehicle charging points. Refurbishment of an old mill, using electrical underfloor heating. 50mm Gyvlon screed incorporating the electrical underfloor heating. The Gyvlon screed was easily pumped into the upper and subsequent floors speeding up installation compared to sand cement screeds. The design also maximized the effectiveness of the underfloor heating, whilst complying with Part E of the Build regulations.

BMW Hollenstein in Aesch near Basel fully utilizes innovative technology. Completed in 2012, the operations centre uses only pioneering, sustainable infrastructure. The fully electric powered BMW models i3 and i8 are recharged at a special station prominently situated by the entrance. The electricity comes from a powerful solar energy plant located on the top of the roof. The Northern Hub required improved and increased train services via direct links between Manchesters Three mainline stations and a new direct link to Manchester Airport. SureSet helped redevelop these areas by installing two mixes of Resin Bound Paving to run next to the viaduct, which also includes entrances to step areas and ramp ways. Bolton Gate were specified to provide the security grilles for the recently completed extension and refurbishment of the BMW Motorcycle showroom in Manchester. In keeping with the prestigious appearance of the building and high-end motorcycles on show, parallel mesh electric grilles in polished stainless steel were chosen to protect the showroom and external windows. In order to remain unobtrusive during trading hours, the bottom rails and side guides were powder coated white to match the surrounding walls and ceiling. For ease of operation, all grilles were electrically linked to allow simultaneous operation.
