A rapid solution was required for Billingsgate Market - the UK's largest inland fish market - that was fit for purpose, exceptionally durable and would not disrupt daily operations. The project involved supplying Sherwin-Williams FasTop TG69 flooring to the 13 acre ground floor of the self-contained market complex, which comprises of 98 stands and 30 shops. The solution had to be food-safe with outstanding wearing properties. Those lucky enough to be staying the night or two are shown to a sumptuous B&B suite upstairs.January 2020 saw Byfords renovate the ‘conservatory’ area of the restaurant, adding an impressive open marble-topped serving bar, behind which are positioned coffee machines and everything needed to make the ever-popular hot drinks throughout the day. One element of this key area that also needed upgrading was the water boiler. ASF manufactured these bespoke stainless steel bollards for Glasgow City Centre. Manufactured from a solid stainless steel bar, these bollards are a lot more resilient than their lean profile would suggest.

This Grade II listed building was first opened in 1858 by Mayor Mackie of Manchester as part of the Smithfield fresh produce market but it remained empty and neglected for years until recently restored to its’ former glory. In addition to the large seating area in the main restaurant hall, a rear external annex was created with a glass roof in keeping with the building’s semi-industrial heritage. Bolton Gate Company were commissioned to design, manufacture and install collapsible gates with special removable bottom tracks to accommodate the sloping floor level to seal off this area when outside trading hours.

Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate is a fourth generation independent family business, passionate about some of the finer things in life – beautiful tea rooms, handmade cakes, traditional breads, proper tea and top quality coffee. They are the business behind Yorkshire Tea, Taylors of Harrogate coffee and the famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms.Project/doors: 5 Speedor Super, 1 Speedor Mini, 12 Fire Shutter, 21 Pedestrian doors, 1 Electric roller shutter, 1 Insulated Roller ShutterThe challenge Due to the size and weight of the insulated roller shutter at 10.5m wide and 6.3m high, this was a difficult installation in an area where the headroom was very tight. A crane was required to lift the shutter into position after opening two holes in the building’s roof so lifting chains could be dropped through to facilitate moving the shutter into position. The solutionHart was contracted by Sir Robert McAlpine to supply and install a range of industrial doors at the Taylors of Harrogate site.  This included the installation of the three-tonne insulated roller shutter completing a work package of over 40 doors. The success The installation of the shutter concluded a project which Hart was involved with through Sir Robert McAlpine and which saw almost every Hart door product installed – from Speedor high speed doors to fire shutters, security shutters and steel personnel doors. 

The combination of a DYNAMIK sprung, high compression, comfort based undercarriage finished in a solid (non-foam backed) vinyl provides high levels of indentation resistance from tables, chairs or play equipment typically seen in Primary or Junior Schools. Resin flooring systems from Sherwin-Williams for food and drink manufacturing areas are seamless, strong, slip-resistant and safe for pedestrian traffic. Textured products including FasTop TG69 are independently tested as having low slip potential when tested with the TRRL Pendulum method promoted by the Health & Safety Executive.In order to reduce the impact on daily operations and allow food production to continue, FasTop TG69 is low odour and can be installed as quickly as possible in line with fast-track programmes to avoid disrupting manufacturing procedures as much as possible.This flooring system can withstand high temperatures, thermal exposure to reflective heat from ovens, as well as heavy impact, heavy machinery and equipment, and a high volume of footfall. It can also resist particularly harmful chemicals used as part of the Clean-In-Place CIP process such as caustic soda, nitric and phosphoric acid.

Westgate Shopping Centre in Oxford reopened in October 2017 after the 1970s built centre was demolished in 2016. The £440 million development now offers shoppers a host of contemporary brands to shop from, as well as a variety of food and drink destinations – including the ever-popular Junk Yard Golf Club. According to the Westgate Oxford Alliance, the newly built shopping centre will welcome approximately 15m people annually, creating 3,500 full time jobs. The shopping centre covers around 800,000 sq. ft (74,300m2), 11,000m2 of which is new paving.

This study aimed to compare levels of bacterial contamination isolated from surfaces in a busy kitchen situated in a UK care home. The study’s main objective was to compare bacterial contamination on the antimicrobial wall cladding with other surfaces in the kitchen. The care home kitchen had been fitted with BioClad PVC wall cladding at the time of construction in 2011. All walls in the rectangular-shaped room were fitted with BioClad from ceiling to floor. The antimicrobial performance of the wall cladding was to be appraised according to the findings of the study.

The global drinks manufacturer Britvic have recently completed the expansion of its manufacturing site in Rugby. This particular investment involved installing a fourth canning line, growing the site capacity by 18%.This new, state of the art canning line was designed to boost Britvic’s Rugby facility, which continues to produce recyclable cans for popular drinks brands such as Tango & Pepsi. The additional capacity will also be used as a platform to drive further innovation and expansion within the business.Aspen Stainless Davos Plus drain channels with ladder covers were installed to cope with the high level of waste demand on site. The channel profile was carefully designed to provide an easy to clean surface with a self-draining slope feature. The strictest level of hygiene standards are required within food manufacturing facilities due to the build-up of bacteria and possible cross contamination of liquids. The new drainage channels were designed to match the existing flow and volume capacity of their existing drains and included bespoke outlets, tied into the building’s underground drainage systems.Banff outlets were also installed with a hinged trap, the removable trash baskets were designed to efficiently dispose of the non-liquid waste, which has built up within the outlet. It’s essential the drainage is perfectly aligned to ensure a seamless connection across the entire site to boost performance standards.The drainage channels are designed in compliance with EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) to support safe hygienic engineering in food manufacture. The EHEDG states ‘product contact surfaces must be easy to clean, non-absorbent and not present a toxicological hazard by leaching of substances and foodstuffs’ the cleanability of the drainage is also an important hygiene requirement as stated in the EHEDG ‘Improperly or insufficiently cleaned equipment cannot be effectively disinfected’The perfectly fitted drainage system boosted the overall hygienic performance of the new drinks recycling facility. This included employee health & safety, operational costs as well as consumer safety. The robust qualities and unique geometrical design of Forbo Flooring Systems’ Flotex Triad planks has helped to refresh the entrance level of this busy university library in Glasgow.The Andersonian Library, located in the Curran building at the University of Strathclyde, is a public facility for thousands of students and staff across Glasgow’s universities. After years of heavy footfall, the original carpet that was fitted in the reception area and corridors of the library was fast deteriorating and imminently becoming a trip hazard.Dawn McNeil, Building Surveyor at the University of Strathclyde said: “When we saw the carpet starting to fail within the entrance level, we knew that we needed a new flooring solution which would be robust stand up to the high levels of traffic, yet also able to retain its aesthetics in years to come. What’s more, as it’s a busy library, it was important for us that the flooring was also easy to clean, as the floors are very prone to food and drink spillages."

Stephen George + Partners’ (SGP) new state-of-the-art office building required an innovative drinking water solution. Across three floors, including their new product development labs and the new academy space, they chose Quadra 440 with XL dispenser in chrome with matching drainage font. The flooring products supplied by Sherwin-Williams had the necessary fast cure performance with the alternative textures to provide a variety of finishes from smooth easy clean surfaces to heavy duty more textured areas where more non-slip texture was required which would be resilient to aggressive cleaning processes.
