The Britannia Leisure Centre, located in Hackney, North London, is a community-focused project spearheaded by Morgan Sindall.This visionary initiative presented an array of complex construction challenges, including the creation of two full-sized five-a-side football pitches and two full-sized tennis courts on the roof, requiring fencing and netting reaching a height of eight metres.The completion of the Britannia Rooftop MUGA project marks a significant milestone for CLD Systems and Perimeter Solutions. The project highlights their ability to overcome complex design and installation challenges, pushing the boundaries of physical security solutions.The Britannia Leisure Centre has received significant recognition and multiple award nominations, including the 2022 RICS Community Benefit award and Architect’s Journal: Community Impact of the Year Award.

The joiner for this coastal house in southern England decided upon a Moralt FERRO doorkit as the basis for the new front door. Using a 78mm thick FERRO KlassikPlus this east- facing external doorset offers absolute security against the rigours of the high winds, changeable weather and salty sea air as well as the direct morning sunlight. The bright red colour was chosen to give the house a sunny disposition and adds to the beach character. The style of door was chosen to fit in with the Edwardian era build of the house, which is over 100 years old.

Meca Welding, a small family run Blacksmith company based in Belgium, has recently specified P C Henderson’s Securefold folding door hardware for the renovation of a pool house at a residential property in Shilde, Belgium. The project brief required a system which could be fully opened during the warmer months and securely closed off during the winter – whilst also considering the architectural style and design aesthetics of the building. P C Henderson’s Securefold 100 exterior folding door hardware was identified as the best solution for the project.

Strata Tower was the first development in the world where wind turbines were constructed within the fabric of the building, setting new standards in sustainable living and becoming one of London’s new icons. Our brief: to design a ground floor entrance that was as commanding as the building above it.SOLUTION:The Strata Tower's 4.5 meter high automatic revolving main entrance door, with enhanced security features and frameless 4.5 meter high automatic pass door, was developed by Open Entrances to meet BFLS' (formerly Hamiltons Masterplanners) design intent.

A bespoke up and over garage door designed and manufactured by Rundum Meir has brought 21st century functionality, access and security to a Grade II listed property in Belgravia. One objective of the renovation project sought to improve access to the garage, which faces a desirable residential street close to Eaton Square Gardens. The transformation had to be done in a way that was sympathetic to the local architecture and compliant with the house’s listed status. The garage doors of the properties lining this cobblestone street are fine examples of the 19th century coach house tradition.

HAG was proud to work with The National Trust to secure ‘Hafod Eyri’, the amazing £8.4m visitor centre atop Snowdon - the highest peak in England and Wales. HAG’s bespoke security products were designed not just to protect against intrusion, but also from extreme elements – wind speeds up to 150mph and temperatures as low as -20oC. A particular difficulty to overcome was securing the iconic ‘Window on the World’ offering views of England, Ireland, Scotland and Isle of Man. However, our design and manufacture expertise enabled us to supply adapted Armourguard products to fit the brief even at 3500ft!

A stunning design by architects Townscape, Peter O’Sullevan House is located at the front entrance of the British Racing School in Newmarket. It provides the horse racing community in East Anglia with a local specialist facility for treatment and training. The facility incorporates a hydrotherapy pool, gymnasium, treatment rooms, changing rooms, conference room, offices and meeting rooms. Forza Doors supplied high dB acoustic American White Oak veneer fire doors and solid American White Oak frames as well as Class 0 spread of flame fire-rated wall cladding panels. All the veneers were laid horizontally to match perfectly down the length of the corridors and open spaces. The feature grooves embedded into the doors provide a smart contemporary look and align with the adjacent panels.  As this innovative building needed a high level of internal finishes and fittings throughout, the contractor RG Carter chose Forza Doors. Just one of several jockey rehab centres we have had the privilege to supply in recent times. Consisting of open plan areas, treatment rooms and hydrotherapy zones, the finished project looks stunning.

ForFarmers is a market leading international feed company that offers feed solutions for conventional and organic livestock farming.Project/doors:21 Hart Doors across 4 sites including Speedor Super, Speedor Storm and Speedor MiniThe challengeDue to the contents of the building, regular industrial doors were not acceptable as they had to be left open, allowing pigeons to enter the building, resulting in damage to the produce.The solutionThe front elevation of the building had to be sealed to prevent vermin egress while also allowing truck access in a fast and safe way. Speedor high speed doors activated by vehicles allow for efficient movement in and out of the building.The successThe doors, installed at feed intake tipping bays, improve aesthetics of the facility, prevent ingress of wildlife into the building and dust being blown over adjacent properties. Speedors do a tremendous job when required for fast open/close cycles at locations such as this where tipping feed can create dust for example. We designed taller and narrower doors – 7.5m high x 3.2m wide – to accommodate the dimensions of the tipping trucks and overall the installation works very well for a happy client

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home was established in 1860 by Mary Tealby as the Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs. Since it opened, the charity has cared for more than 3.1 million dogs and cats. To increase capacity at their old Windsor site BDCH are adding a new wing.The animal charity required specialist doors for a new intake building which includes 27 kennels and 4 maternity kennels.Dortek supplied hygienic hinged doors with Stainless Steel frames throughout the new building. Some doors also had automations and access control locks for ease of access and increased security. Fire doors with 30 minutes certification were also supplied for the protection of animals and staff throughout the facility.The GRP construction of Dortek doors makes them easy to clean, waterproof and extremely robust. They are ideally suited to animal care facilities requiring a low maintenance design.

Metal Technology has contributed to achieving the desired aesthetic for the flagship Leeds College of Building Campus designed by Fuse (Leeds). A former brownfield industrial site alongside the River Roding in Essex is converted into attractive mixed-use community housing. The Met Police custody and patrol base for the borough, industrial businesses, restaurants, river moorings and 1000 homes.The developer wanted to replace old and damaged wooden hoardings around a section of the Fresh Wharf Estate perimeter in Barking and prevent damage to a bus shelter from stone chips thrown up by passing vehicles on the adjacent A406.The SolutionFresh Water Developments approached Zaun to devise a bespoke solution for the site on the banks of the Roding, a Thames tributary. They wanted a sustainable perimeter, deflected flying stone chips, minimised noise and met their aesthetic, design and functional needs.Zaun has integrated a new highly resistant laminate made entirely from mixed waste plastics with its market-leading Duo fencing to produce a system that won’t rust or rot. In addition, it is low maintenance and reusable or recyclable if damaged.The innovative product design named DBS Security boasts great acoustic-loss properties, rated B3 and 36dB loss, and gives protection against damage from flying objects flicked up by passing vehicles.DBS Security protects a bus shelter close to the North Circular that constantly has to undergo repair. A large section of the perimeter to the industrial site and housing is fitted with Zaun’s twin-wire Duo fencing system. Two horizontal wires resist being welded on either side of the vertical wire.Zaun combined both standard and bespoke fencing to tailor the overall solution to the site’s specific requirements.

Functionality may not be the headline stealer but the safe use and operation of the building is a key design element for ensuring visitors, residents, suppliers and artists reach their destinations safely and quickly. Split over basement, ground and three upper floors, the Charles Doll Building on Grape Street, London, offers a contemporary and functional specification in this stunning office refurbishment. The development mixes industrial elements with a crisp modern aesthetic by carefully combining characterful architectural features, including vaulted ceilings with exposed brick and steelwork.Named after its architect Charles Fitzroy Doll, the building is clad in decorative thé-au-lait (“tea with milk”) terracotta – Doll's use of grand façades is understood to have resulted in the expression, ‘all dolled up’. The first floor has been fitted out to a high standard with office furniture from Vitra, providing the perfect space for those who want to move in and get straight to work.The lobby mixes vibrate contemporary wall art with industrial light fittings and brickwork. Forza’s in-house CAD team planned the bespoke black oak Firescreen partition wall to match the architect's design. As a market leading passive fire product, this Firescreen provides both integrity from Smoke and Fire and insulation from heat. This is important because in a fire emergency heat has been shown to ignite secondary fires to items, such as curtains or carpets, that are near the other side of non-insulated partitions.Via the Thinking Space Design & Build, Forza Doors supplied twenty FD30 Fire Doors with stained frames and skirting boards to match throughout the five floors of The Charles Doll Building. Chosen to match the steelwork throughout the development, the dark satin finish of the doors was selected from Forza’s Creato range of dyed veneers. This ‘Illunis’ finish is one of twelve fashionable choices in the range. Dyed veneers are an increasingly popular choice with designers as they offer cost savings over stained veneers without compromising quality.The Doors with glass vision panels, required to allow light through to the stairwells, feature our flush and quirk bead. A minimalist design option where one side of the doors is completely flush right up to the glass vision panel and the other side has a very simple elegant bead detailing.

Hygiene is a priority and food production areas require specialist doors to promote cleanliness and avoid contamination. Due to the lack of space, one of the doors required a special solution to be able to effectively install the doorThe solutionHart replaced unreliable aluminium bi-parting doors installed by a competitor with Harts stainless steel Speedor Minis. The Speedor Mini is a made to measure high speed roll up door with multi-layer PVC fabric which is thicker and less prone tears and splits. Stainless steel allows for easy cleaning, contamination prevention and extended life. Bath Abbey sits at the heart of the historic city of Bathwhere there has been a place of Christian worship onthe site for more than 1,300 years. The Bath AbbeyFootprint Project sought to ensure the 17th CenturyGrade I listed building remained a focal point forgenerations to come. The project aimed to sensitivelyrenovate parts of the Abbey whilst modernising itsfacilities to cater for present-day demands in a buildingwhose origins date back to 1499.Allgood worked with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studiosand Emery Bros Ltd to provide a complete packageof ironmongery and a comprehensive access controlsolution. The project required many bespoke items toaccommodate the Abbey’s historic architecture.Given the age of the building, there were particularchallenges to overcome during the specificationprocess. A highlight being how to bring a 400-yearoldlock back into working order as part of a modernaccess control system. The lock on the main doors of theAbbey had not been used in decades and the key hadbeen lost many years ago. Allgood delivered the lockto its specialist partner, Guardian Lock & EngineeringCompany, who called upon the services of one of theirretired locksmiths to diligently disassemble the lock,repair, and service it before crafting a new key.Another particular specification issue was improvingaccess control for the ancient catacombs which neededconstant airflow to maintain the right environmentalconditions, but they also needed to be secure.Allgood worked with the architect on several optionsto balance these needs in a way sensitive to the 17th Century surroundings. The solution was a door designedto have a clear gap on either side for airflow but narrowenough to maintain security. Allgood Secure also revisedthe internal exit and a second card reader was fitted toboost security, allowing a read in, read out system to givefull visibility of people arriving and departing. To completethe work, a specifically designed stainless-steel cover was fitted to house the electronic locking system.Alex Morris, Associate at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios,commented: “From early stages in the project, wehave been very pleased to work with the Allgood teamon the ironmongery and access control for the BathAbbey Footprint project. We have benefitted fromtheir expert advice and extensive range of high-qualityproducts, needed to deal with the wide range of projectrequirements.”The Mode 3570 lever handle in a bronze Spectra finishwas specified throughout the Abbey, as well as a fullsuite of matching door furniture. This fully coordinatedrange not only provided the desired aesthetic but is alsodesigned to last. The comprehensive 25-year warrantyand Quadaxial rose, which is tested up to one millioncycles, means the lever handles are perfect for the highfoot traffic the Abbey receives. Allgood Secure also completed an access control systemfor the Abbey. Because many of the doors and frameswere protected by Historic England listing requirements,the team had to develop a sensitive yet functionalsolution. All visible products had the same Spectra bronzefinish to match the ironmongery, as well as installing entrycontrols for much narrower doors than usual.A video entry system was also required - but one thatcould function without disturbing events in the Abbeyincluding the regular choir practices. Rather than anaudio alarm, the team created a visual beacon using a25mm LED fixed to the choir room wall, allowing for anunintrusive system that would draw attention but notdisrupt any rehearsals.The entire access control system is networked sothat each door can be monitored, and access rightsmanaged easily via a simple database. The AllgoodSecure team has provided full training to all thosewho need it and have offered a package of ongoingmaintenance and support for the Abbey.

The lightwell lift includes caged, enclosed sides to secure the load and prevent the risk of anything falling from the platform onto people below. Interlocked doors were fitted to prevent any accidents whilst the goods lift is in use. Interlocks ensure that the lift will only operate whilst the doors are locked shut, opening again once the lift has travelled to the level required. This provided the team with a safe and efficient lifting solution when moving their big commercial bins from below ground to pavement level. The 500kg capacity allows deliveries to be taken from kerbside to the basement.

Designed by Chaplin Farrant The Nest is a new community sports facility funded by the charity partner of Norwich City football club, to help improve the health and well-being of local residents.The development includes an impressive refurbished clubhouse with changing rooms, physio room, event and conference spaces plus a café and IT suite. Senior’s SF52 aluminium curtain wall and SPW600 aluminium windows have been used throughout the new building to give a light and airy feel. For inclusive access and security, a combination of SPW501 aluminium commercial doors and SD automatic sliding doors were installed.

Located within the historic market town of Alnwick, Willowburn Retail Park is a new shopping destination with easy access from the A1, boasting 37,405 sq.ft. of retail floorspace, plus 200 parking spaces.The distinctive modern design by Projekt Architects uses a bold mixture of sustainable materials including energy-efficient glazing plus sustainable timber Accoya for the cladding, soffit and eaves. Senior Architectural Systems provided the entire glazing package including thermally-efficient SF52 curtain walling for the full-height glazed frontages and robust SPW501 doors, Certified to PAS24 and Secured by Design standards, to provide secure access throughout the development.

It’s prime time for the education sector to refurbish and service institutions. Helmsman manufactured and installed almost 200 new laminate lockers in a high school in Manchester. These laminate lockers were extra heavy duty. Having ‘extra’ heavy-duty lockers means that the laminate doors inset into the locker frame and creates extra durability. The advanced locking design provides a return lip within the internal door frame for the hooked cam to lock behind. In addition, there is a locking slot in the door frame upright that enables secure locking in two places. These stable and fire retardant four compartment lockers have created storage for 776 students.The Laminate used was Arpa Fucisa, which makes the corridors pop. The laminate lockers are all standard sizes of 1775mm high x 300mm wide x 450mm deep. This project included a standard 150 mm stand with the rear leg which has been cladded with matching laminate panels to have a fully secure, clean and aesthetically pleasing effect. Arpa Fucisa also used for the sidewall to locker infill. Chorlton school chose to have engraved numbers on each locker door. The doors needed to give 60-minute fire resistance and be capable of completing up to 400,000 open/close cycles a year. Further, the doors needed to meet strict air leakage criteria and be able to withstand sudden air-pressure increases. The doors also had to interface with third-party equipment such as conveyor belt controls and fire alarms. Each required an LCD display control panel that provided a quick and easy diagnosis of what each door was doing at any point in time. The solution Using an already proven design solution which Hart developed for the baggage handling system in Heathrow’s Terminal 5, Hart adapted the product to suit this new requirement. As this was not a product already on offer, invention and rigorous testing were required.The successA decade has passed since the doors were installed and commissioned. The facility continues the manufacture of the battery cells and the doors remain a critical part of the success of the plant and have proved exceptional reliability and total cost of ownership
