Controlling Penetrating Water in Cavity Walls

Controlling Penetrating Water in Cavity Walls

Cavity Trays Ltd

A systematic approach of arresting and reducing the flow of water within a cavity wall prior to any change in status of that wall helps balance demands on damp protection measures. In the case of a circular window passing through a curved cavity wall, protecting against damp ingress is easily achieved using a preformed Type K cavitray. The preformed Cavitray is curved to match the wall. Conventional flat material or roll material cannot uniformly match the radius of a wall.

Langley Waterproofing Systems Ltd

Refurbishment of the flat roofs on this block of flats and adjacent bungalows was made more challenging by snow, and having residents on site throughout the project. Langley’s comprehensive condition survey revealed a deteriorating stramit deck on the buildings which had become saturated as a result of a failed waterproofing layer. CWG Roofing Limited, a Langley Approved Contractor, demonstrated excellent workmanship to install a tapered system with chute outlets above the new deck level.
Level Threshold Approach has Problem Covered

Level Threshold Approach has Problem Covered

Cavity Trays Ltd

The forming of a level threshold would be easy if the designer did not have to consider the prevention of damp ingress. The problem is a number of elements converge at a threshold, and when the threshold is required to be practically level, it can be difficult to bring together protective measures in a manner that promote integrated functionality and structural convenience. A different approach to forming level thresholds is offered by Cavity Trays Ltd. It literally and physically covers the problem. The Type LTT Level Threshold Tray is a three-dimensional preformed DPC that envelops opening masonry skins.

Wallbarn Ltd

ASP pedestals were chosen by the waterproofing contractor to suspend paving slabs on residential balconies above an inverted waterproofing system on a luxury development. Decks were laid to falls in many different directions creating different heights and angles. Paving needed to be flat across the falling deck and slabs needed to ballast the insulation. Telescopic stems easily adjust the height whilst the slab is in place, making installation fast and easy. Positioning lugs create uniform paving lines automatically. Heavy load tolerances and durability over time and large temperature ranges, up to Minus 40° C, gives Wallbarn ASPs the edge competitors.

FIS Products

In Clerkenwell, McLaren constructed a new office building with a basement to provide a total 97,000 sq ft of office space. McLaren utilized the existing basement structure which meant the exterior of the structure wasn't accessible. This meant that it was appropriate to use a cavity drain system. FIS worked closely with Henry Construction Projects and Veretec to provide a complete waterproofing service. Designing a system to fit around the existing structure was the challenge. FIS were able to advise on the correct installation process and provide regular quality control checks. Images courtesy of turnmillec1.co.uk.

The support pads lifted the decking off the roof, eliminating the risk of the timber piercing the membrane, and drainage was maintained through the roof surface since the green roof system has a cavity beneath its own reservoir and drainage layer to allow water run-off.

Preventing this from occuring is obviously a priority in the minds of all designers and builders interested in quality construction. SureCav Provides the Solution. By building with the SureCav panels instead of a using a block leaf you are providing a barrier to protect from wind driven rain.

Newton Waterproofing Systems

As part of their ongoing relationship with the Imperial College London, Newton Specialist Contractor A.P. Gooch was tasked with assessing and waterproofing 11 historic Victorian brick vaults beneath the streets of Kensington, London, after the existing competitor ‘waterproof render’ had failed. Following a full assessment of the vaults, A.P. Gooch decided that the best option was to install the tried and tested ‘failsafe’ Newton System 500 cavity drainage membrane solution in order to depressurise, capture and safely manage ingressing water away from the building.
