Ansell Lighting

Ben Hodgson Cars is an independent locally based family run business in Dalston whose commitment and primary focus is to sell quality used cars. Located on the outskirts of Carlisle, their aim is to take care of their customers both old and new, within their local community. They also have an online presence, which allows them access to areas further away within England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.Installing a qualitative LED lighting solution provides many advantages over the previous linear fluorescent lighting systems and businesses are starting to understand to a greater extent the benefits gained to their bottom line. An energy efficient lighting installation offers high lumen output which can significantly reduce the consumed energy costs by around half and with exceptional reliability and virtually no maintenance being required for several years, ongoing costs can be kept to a minimum, providing continuity of illumination and allowing the staff to focus on vehicle sales rather than maintaining the lighting. The most important area within any car dealership is the showroom area as it’s vehicles within this space which attracts potential customers. Creating a great customer experience massively increases the chances of a potential sale which is why dealerships must give a lot of thought to their lighting needs due to how important good lighting is to the overall customer experience.Vehicles are painted to produce a highly reflective surface and a correctly designed lighting installation can significantly enhance the appearance of the vehicles and entice people into the showroom to make a purchase.Lighting can provide the additional benefit of excitement and prestige to the showroom, as high value vehicles tend to be purchased based upon the senses of looks and feel rather than just the finances involved. Creating the optimum lighting solution is therefore most important, with luminaires having to provide the correct colour intensity, colour temperature and colour rendering properties to facilitate a true representation of the vehicle, its outline and shape as well as colour. When Ben Hodgson Cars wanted to create the perfect lighting installation for their dealership, Ansell’s Pace LED Recessed Panel was the obvious solution. The Pace is a high-performance maintenance free LED panel, suitable for installation in offices, educational buildings, retail and healthcare premises and has the ability to distribute light evenly making it perfect for this type of application. Capable of achieving a UGR<19 installation, thus minimising perceived glare for added visual comfort and is offered in Warm White (3000K), Cool White (4000K) and Daylight (6500K) options. The Pace LED panel has a lifetime to L90 @ 52,000 hours giving it superb luminous performance. The team at Ben Hodgson Cars were thrilled with the results. The quality and reliability of Ansell’s Paced LED Recessed Panel shone through and ultimately become the perfect solution to Ben Hodgson’s lighting needs.

New car lift increases showroom capacity for Jaguar and Landrover car dealer in the NetherlandsCar dealer in Maastricht benefits from space-saving and representable PEGASOS car liftThe newly built showroom and workshop for a Jaguar and Landrover car dealer in Maastricht has been equipped with a car lift from Lödige Industries. The customer decided for a PEGASOS car lift to increase showroom capacities by accessing all elegantly designed levels of the showroom building via car and reducing space requirements for the car lift itself. The installed PEGASOS car lift was taken into operation in July 2020. About the project and buildingThe new Jaguar Landrover dealership in Maastricht reflects the highest standards of both brands – Jaguar and Landrover. Latest models as well as a wide range of approved used vehicles are presented on two levels within the building. Both levels of the newly build facility feature a sleek look via multiple glass surfaces. Thus, the integrated workshop is following the concept of an 'open bar'. Moreover, the almost five-metre-high basement, provides room for storage and workspaces. In total, the site has more than 4,300 square metres of floor space. Lödige Industries - New car lift increases showroom capacity for Jaguar and Landrover car dealer in the NetherlandsPlay VideoLocated at the industrial estate near Maastricht-Airport, the area has now been given a veritable 'Premium Car Boulevard', which, in addition to Jaguar Land Rover Maastricht, also consists of the adjacent PGZ sister companies Porsche Centrum Maastricht and Bentley Maastricht. This has created a unique location that is well worth a visit for all lovers of beautiful cars. Reliable PEGASOS car lift increases show room capacity and improves return-on-investmentFor the new dealership building, JLR required a space-saving, reliable and at the same time representable lifting solution to overcome building levels by car. By having a car lift, staff members can easily transport cars between floors to change the display, take vehicles for test drives and of course deliver them to buyers. With building space at a premium, most car showrooms are modern two or more storey buildings. In consideration of the five-metre-high basement with rooms for storage and workspaces, the PEGASOS offers a significant benefit as it doesn’t require a pit and installation is therefore simple and straightforward. With its range of finishes, the PEGASOS easily adapts to the overall design of the showroom. At JLR Maastricht, the PEGASOS comes in a sleek look of aluminium, steel and metal to match the modern, luxurious feel of the ‘car boulevard’. With a load capacity of 2.700kg it can carry even the heaviest of Landrovers from floor to floor and turns the travel into an enjoyable ride of its own. About the customerJaguar Landrover (JLR) is a global automotive manufacturer and leading technology company, built around two iconic British car brands and driven by a desire to deliver class-leading vehicles, providing experiences people love, for life. At heart JLR is a British company with business operations all over the world. Tata Motors, India’s largest automotive manufacturer, has been hosting the companies since 2008, and in 2013 the Jaguar and Land Rover brands merged to form one unified company."It is with great pride that we are using this beautiful location today. The team has been doing a fantastic job at the temporary location for a year and a half now, but compared to that, this new building is really next level. That is our immediate ambition, because with these resources at our disposal, we will be able to offer even more experience and even more service. Like our customers, we have high expectations of Jaguar and Land Rover. With this fantastic showroom and workshop we will not only be able to live up to these expectations, but even exceed them. Everyone is welcome to come and experience that.“- Nick Rouwette, Branch manager at Jaguar Land Rover Maastricht

3,500m2 of mastic asphalt was laid by BriggsAmasco’s City and Guild-trained installers onto the car park’s concrete decks. Up to 54-tonnes of asphalt was being utilised per day on machine-laid areas of roof, which required expert project management to ensure a steady supply of material was maintained. During one particularly complex operation, contractors were required to close sections of the car park in order to crane ready-to-apply tanks of mastic asphalt onto the roof. This required coordinated planning with the client and local authorities to minimise the public health and safety risk.

Car Dealership Made Accessible For All

Guldmann Limited

The car dealer Kronsbjerg in Odense, Denmark, is a family owned company. Kronsbjerg was established in 1922 and is now run by the fourth generation with three branches on the Danish island Funen. Over the years, they have sold and serviced several, different car brands. In December 2015, Autohuset Kronsbjerg started selling and servicing yet another car brand in their department in Odense. Taking on this new car brand meant that existing facilities became too small. Therefore, Kronsbjerg decided to invest in a new, beautiful building of approx. 1500 m2 , which could accommodate both management facilities and exhibition areas for the existing and new cars. The new premises are built in split levels between the two exhibition areas that have a level difference of approx. 50 cm. Therefore, it was necessary to create accessibility for people with walking difficulties and wheelchair users – as well as to meet the Danish regulatory requirements for accessibility in new buildings. To negotiate the height differences Kronsbjerg chose the LP7 platform lift from Stepless by Guldmann both because of its elegant and light design but also because of the plug and play construction that has a very low entry level of only 50 mm. This allows for a short ramp and no need for placing the platform in a pit.

THE NEED:The Bluewater carpark covers an area of roughly 11,379 M and a total of 13,000 car parking spaces. These were in major need of resurfacing after years of use and wear. Clear & easy to follow waymarking was needed in order to help shoppers park easily, ensure they are in the right car park, and direct them towards the shops once parked.SOLUTION:Meon’s own brand of paints “Spectrum” held the solution with MultiGrip being a tried and tested surface marking solution. This allowed an extensive use of product made to Bluewater bespoke colours, combined with stencils which were designed by Meon to exact customer fonts, providing a visually attractive solution to help customers make sure they are in the right car park.SUMMARY:Feedback was positive from contractor and management alike. The marking itself was very clear and thanks to the customised stencils, created a clear visual message that people could read and understand. This was a particular success as a key concern was a clear waymarking to ensure that the efficiency of the car park was high, as people were able to locate vehicles faster.SYSTEMS USED:- SPECTRUM MultiGrip - Stencil set - Designed by Meon

Fast draining car park surface for college campus

Fast draining car park surface for college campus

Tarmac

This large college needed to increase parking capacity for students and staff and commissioned a new 5,500m2 car park. Local planning guidelines encouraged a sustainable approach to drainage to avoid excessive run-off into the local catchment. It would be used throughout the year, so there was also a requirement to avoid standing water during heavy rain. As it would be in frequent use by large numbers of staff and students, the chosen surfacing needed to provide long term durability with minimal maintenance requirement. After discussions with the main contractor, Tarmac’s experienced team recommended ULTIDRIVE POROUS, their specialist porous asphalt car park surface. Using a modified binder and open aggregate structure, ULTIDRIVE POROUS combines excellent drainage characteristics with long term durability. It reduces direct surface water run-off to help meet planning requirements. It also eliminates the problem of both standing water after heavy rain and ice patches that can occur in cold weather conditions.

MULTI-STORY CAR PARK MARKINGS, SPECTRUM CASE STUDY

Meon

THE NEED:One of our customers was approached to provide a variety of markings for a new multi-storey car park build which included disabled spaces, parent and child bays, reserved bays, car club bays and electric charging bays – all of which were suitably colour-coded.SOLUTION:The challenge they had was delivering the highest possible quality markings within budgetary requirements. This meant using MMA as sparingly as possible, and looking to other suitable paints and materials. The car park was built using several different surface materials including asphalt and montex on the ground floor, montex on the first floor and mastic asphalt for the second floor. Various coloured paints were also needed on all three floors in order to achieve a sleek, modern and user-friendly look. A range of products were required to use a variety of colours on these various surfaces.SUMMARY:we recommended a mixture of MMA, solvent based and water based paint options to cover the requirements. These would give the markings and car park a smart-looking appearance, and also complied with the budgetary requirements. Walkways and roadways on the ground and first floor were installed using Ultragrip L240 which has a textured but sleek finish, fulfilling the demands of safety and aesthetics. All of the parking bays, letters and arrows were done using paint products dependent on the surface. Car lift enables new parking garage for MIPIM award winner in AmsterdamSpace saving PEGASOS lift provides access to new basement parking levelThe PEGASOS car lift was delivered in 2019 by Lödige Industries to DCV Bouw B.V. in Amsterdam, Netherlands. About the building and projectThe Diamond Exchange, Diamantbeurs in Dutch, was built in 1911 to a design by Gerit van Arkel as the centre of the Amsterdam diamond trading industry. It housed a large trading hall on the first floor and offices above that. In 2015, the building was purchased by Sijthoff Media Groep and Zadelhoff Beheer and underwent a significant renovation and transformation based on designs by Zwarts & Jansma Architects and Heyligers design + projects. The new design aimed at three objectives: to restore the original qualities of the Diamantbeurs in its full glory, to adapt the interior for use as a modern, flexible office environment and to build a contemporary addition open to the public. The most prominent new addition to the 2020 MIPIM Award winner, is the elongated dome of steel and glass on the roof, called High Light. The curved glass structure incorporates solar cells, which generate solar energy as well as shade. The shape of the structure, which houses a public space, references the property's past as the center of the diamond trade. Today, under its new name, ‘Capital C’, it serves as a centre for the creative industry and houses conference and event venues as well as co-working spaces for various companies. Offering enough parking spaces by enabling access to parking garage via car liftParking spaces around the building located in the centre of Amsterdam are rare and costly. As the Capital C building offers co-working spaces it benefits from the excellent public transport connections in the area. Nevertheless, it needed to find a way to offer parking spaces for cars and bicycles. To solve this a new basement was added to the building to create the space needed for parking. The inclusion of a ramp for access, however, would have severely limited the number of spaces on offer. The PEGASOS © car lift is the most space saving car lift on the market today. It requires neither pit nor engine room and thanks to its extremely slender shaft geometry it offers an access solution even in very restricted space situations.Today tenants of the building simply drive up to the lift, press their remote and enter the lift for a quick delivery to the garage – a fact that is very popular with the users of the co-working spaces in the building. About the customerDCV BOUW B.V. was founded in 2006. Since then, it has grown into an important player in the construction sector of the Netherlands.DCV BOUW carries out a wide range of projects for its clients. Recents projects include the renovation of ‘De Oliphant’ and newbuild of the Orato Offices in Amsterdam, as well as the Aon building renovation in Rotterdam.Challenges of parking at DiamantbeursThe Capital C building was renovated and now houses a new creative centre offering co-working spaces and event venues, leading to increased parking requirementsParking spaces are limited in the city centre of Amsterdam,The building had an underground level for parking cars and bicycles but no space for a conventional access ramp. Given the integration into the existing building, there was limited headroom available above any potential lift. The customer required access not only for cars, but also for bicycles and egress for building management functions such as waste removal.Enabling access to parking garageThe Lödige PEGASOS© car lift installed serves as a space efficient and convenient entry to the underground parking garage.Cars are being transported vertically to the parking garage, without the need for a conventional access rampThe design of the PEGASOS car lift needs no pit and minimal headroom, facilitating integration into the existing buildingCars and bicycles can be comfortably transported to the underground parking garage. The lift also enables easy waste removal and goods delivery.
Creating the perfect garage for classic Humber car collection

Creating the perfect garage for classic Humber car collection

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A bespoke timber side sliding sectional garage door by Rundum Meir has proved to be the perfect fit for a private collector of classic 1950s Humber cars. After moving into the period property around six years ago, Cab Ellis was keen to redevelop the unloved garage to create a space for housing his collection of mark IV B Humber Super Snipe cars. Having purchased and maintained four of these specific models over the past 15 years, Mr Ellis wanted to ensure the new garage would reflect the beauty of the vehicles as well as mirror the period architecture of his 1910-built home. The Humber Super Snipe was very much regarded as an upmarket car of choice amongst senior public and business figures in the mid 1950s, providing a level of luxury beyond that of the more mainstream Humber stablemate in that era, the Humber Hawk – for which the Super Snipe is often mistaken. Elegantly styled with powerful 4,138 cc 113 bhp engines, they were built between 1952 and 1956 and today their heritage lives on thanks to the efforts of dedicated collectors like Mr Ellis. The vehicles are now housed in a garage accessed via an automated timber side sliding sectional door, featuring glass apertures, designed, manufactured and installed by Rundum Meir UK. The six-section door spans 4m to provide easy access to the garage and painted in a high quality black finish to achieve a period look.Cab Ellis said: “We’re delighted with our new garage and thankful to Rundum Meir for the sliding doors which have made the dream a reality. When we started on the project we researched numerous garage door types, but we struggled to find one that was out of the ordinary, automated and available in the stable-door style we sought.“Danesch and the team at Rundum Meir were fantastic. Following an initial visit to our home, they helped us explore the options within our available budget and the door that they proposed was perfect. With the windows, it is great to be able to see our Super Snipes in all their glory with ease."The side sliding sectional door installed here demonstrates how Rundum Meir is able to develop a bespoke solution for most applications. All its doors are designed in the UK, hand crafted in Germany and assembled back in the UK prior to installation. In addition to many different varieties of timber, Rundum Meir routinely manufactures garage doors in high strength extruded aluminium, as well as special materials such as glass and façade substrates. These can be designed as side sliding sectional doors, side sliding ‘round the corner’ doors or up and over options.
Car park resurfacing for a busy, town centre supermarket

Car park resurfacing for a busy, town centre supermarket

Tarmac

Resurfacing was required for this busy supermarket and public car park serving Billericay town centre. In addition to replacing the old surface, works included reconfiguring the layout with additional parent & child and disabled parking bays and the creation of pedestrian walkways with clear demarcation. Tarmac’s ULTIDRIVE 6mm asphalt was selected as it has a close texture finish to provide a surface that is both durable and able to resist the effects of tight turning vehicles. ULTIDRIVE is a specialist asphalt with an advanced modified binder that provides enhanced workability during installation. This assists with compaction and finish, especially when hand laying around ironwork. It also provides improved resistance to rutting and deformation from vehicle loading and to scuffing and abrasion from power-assisted steering. ULTIDRIVE has a higher softening point temperature than conventional materials and resists occasional fuel and oil spills.

Long lasting car park surface for police centre

Long lasting car park surface for police centre

Tarmac

As part of a £44m project to build a major new police operational command centre, surfacing was required for the large parking area and access roads. The parking area would be used by more than 1,200 officers and support staff and a wide range of vehicles from police cars to heavy goods vehicles. Originally an AC 10 close graded surface course material had been specified. However, after early engagement with the surfacing and main contractor, it was clear that a more robust and durable solution was required that could withstand the high volumes of traffic using the site.Tarmac’s ULTIDRIVE asphalt was chosen as the solution. Designed to resist the long term effects of daily vehicle movement, ULTIDRIVE is a high performance asphalt with a smooth and highly durable finish. An advanced modified binder enhances the toughness of the surface, provides improved resistance to scuffing and abrasion from power-assisted turning and reduces softening in hot weather. It also gives enhanced resistance to temporary fuel and oil spills compared to conventional asphalt surfacing.
Porous, all weather car park surface for large brewery

Porous, all weather car park surface for large brewery

Tarmac

A new 4,000m2 staff car park was required for this large brewery in Monmouthshire. Sustainable water management was a key priority for the client. As a result they had specified full infiltration porous construction that would allow rainwater to soak into the pavement, before being slowly released into the ground. This would help to reduce the rapid runoff which can cause local drainage systems to be overloaded after heavy rainfall. The new ULTIDRIVE POROUS surface provided a safe, all-weather parking area which would avoid surface water after heavy rainfall and formation of ice during the winter. It also met the client’s sustainability requirements by helping to manage rainwater at source and control its release into the surrounding environment.
