Model Solution In Stainless Steel Worktops

Model Solution In Stainless Steel Worktops

Anderson, GEC Ltd

Four metres of stainless steel provides a ‘model’ worktop solution for one of the UK’s top fashion and photographic model agencies. Take 2 Model Management had the worktop installed in its new London offices, where it plays a key role in boardroom catering. The worktop was supplied by GEC Anderson, specialist in made-to-measure stainless steel products.Take 2 has on its books many top international and local models who feature on fashion catwalks and in campaigns for leading brands. Founded 25 years ago by Melissa Richardson and Gabriella Palmano, the agency was based in Covent Garden until its recent relocation to a converted 19th century warehouse at Willow Street, Shoreditch, the heart of London’s fashion district. The new premises includes a modern fourth storey boardroom, which is also used for general meetings and corporate events, necessitating a stylish and well-appointed kitchen-bar.  Bespoke manufacturer Woodbury Furniture Company was commissioned to build the kitchen-bar, with a stainless steel worktop specified by the architect. Woodbury designer Matthew King says: “We approached GEC Anderson for the worktop as we had worked with them on several previous commissions. They offer a wide choice of edge details and upstands, and can be relied on for seamless joins and a perfect fit.” The worktop was supplied in two sections to facilitate handling into the boardroom – via a spiral staircase. The sections were mounted on top of storage units and appliances and were clamp-jointed on site to provide a virtually seamless finish. A cut-out to accommodate a glass-top hob was provided, along with an integral 500mm x 400mm sink from GEC Anderson’s standard range. Melissa Richardson says: “It’s great – it looks lovely and it’s working well for us.” Woodbury and GEC Anderson also provided a 700mm stainless steel-topped teapoint with a 300mm diameter sink to serve staff and visitors on the lower floors.   Based near Exeter, Woodbury Furniture Company has a small team of craftsmen who produce custom furniture and kitchens in a variety of styles from traditional to contemporary. Matthew King says: “Stainless steel is an excellent choice for worktops because its seamless finish virtually eliminates the risk of leaks affecting storage or appliances.”  The GEC Anderson worktop and teapoint at Take 2 are made from satin finish stainless steel, which provides a hard-wearing surface that is easy to maintain to high standards of hygiene and retains an attractive appearance for many years. Founded in England in 1962, GEC Anderson has pioneered the development of made-to-measure stainless steel products. Today, the company’s range includes bowls, worktops, cabinets, shelving and sanitaryware for use in domestic, commercial and specialist environments. All products are manufactured to ISO 9001 and backed by a comprehensive support service from planning and product specification to installation and maintenance.

The integrated seat stand on these lockers is a great space-saving solution and is perfect for this area. The front line cubicle range fitted the requirements for the toilet and shower cubicles, installed alongside the lockers. 5 Things To Consider When Installing Hygiene Rooms In Schools

5 Things To Consider When Installing Hygiene Rooms In Schools

Astor Bannerman

In recent guidance from the Department for Education (DfE), specifically BB103 and BB104, it has been strongly recommended that both mainstream and Special Educational Needs (SEND) schools incorporate hygiene rooms as an essential component of their facilities to comply with regulations. This highlights the commitment to creating inclusive learning spaces that cater to the diverse needs of students. This guide shares five crucial insights for anyone embarking on the journey of creating hygiene rooms within educational institutions.One. Adhere To DfE Guidelines:Underscored is the importance of aligning with the Department for Education (DfE) guidelines, specifically BB104 and BB103. These guidelines set forth the standards necessary for designing hygiene rooms that cater comprehensively to the diverse needs of students with disabilities. We’ve briefly outlined the guidance below:BB103: “Area Guidelines for Mainstream Schools”:BB103 provides guidance on the space requirements and design considerations for various areas within mainstream schools. This includes classrooms, dining areas, toilet facilities, and more. The goal is to ensure that the physical environment supports effective teaching and learning, as well as the overall well-being of students.BB104: “Access to and Use of Buildings”:BB104 focuses on access to and use of buildings, specifically addressing issues related to accessibility for individuals with disabilities in SEND schools. This guideline outlines the standards for creating an inclusive and accessible built environment within educational facilities. It covers features to ensure that buildings are welcoming and usable by everyone. Most importantly BB103 & BB104 state that a hygiene room should be included in all school settings.Two. Ensure You Have Considered Full Room Hoist CoverageIt’s important to consider the mobility of students when planning for a hygiene room installation. We recommend the Astor OT200 Overhead Ceiling Track Hoist, this advanced hoist system offers full room coverage, ensuring secure and seamless transfers for students with mobility challenges. Improving the utilisation of space and the versatile enhancement of accessibility within hygiene rooms. Discover more about the Astor OT200 Overhead Ceiling Track Hoist here, including its X-Y track system to give access to all amenities and facilities, room-to-room transfer capabilities, considerations for door height/track system impact, and room height/depth of track.Three. Choose The Correct Changing TableIn schools, changing tables are essential for students with disabilities, offering a supportive and dignified space for changing routines. Tailored to various needs, these tables contribute to creating an inclusive environment, ensuring all students feel welcome and supported. When selecting a changing table for a school hygiene room, you’ll need to consider crucial factors. The key considerations when making your decision include:Wall Mounted / Mobile: Considerations include the available space, access and the number of carers needed.Height Adjustability: Protect your carers by insuring easy adjustment to the correct working height,Maximum Working Load: Ensure durability for daily use with a robust design.Size: Optimise functionality by considering the changing table’s size in relation to available space.Shower Tray Required?: Enhance hygiene with the option for a practical shower tray.Space / Need to Stow?: Maximise efficiency with a fold-away design for space-saving and easy stowing.Tilting Headrests: Improve user comfort with tilting headrests for a friendly changing experience.Explore the Astor CTX2-CP, with a water collection tray and drain hose which is ideal for showering and changing. The CP model comes with an emergency stop button which is perfect for multi-user environments such as Changing Places Toilets, schools and care environments.Four. Include A Height Adjustable Wash BasinInstalling a Height-adjustable wash basin will offer accessibility for students with a range of disabilities. Specially designed to cater to diverse needs, these basins ensure comfort and prolonged independence, fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment. This inclusive design not only enhances the overall functionality of these spaces but also emphasises a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that every child can navigate and utilise hygiene facilities with ease and dignity. We recommend the Astor ABW-CP Height Adjustable Wall Mounted Wash Basin featuring a spacious basin surround, it aids wheelchair users in transitioning from sitting to standing. Controlled effortlessly by a handheld device, the ABW-CP includes a large integrated mirror and an adjustable soap dispenser for added convenience.Five. Consider The Colour Scheme For Sensory Well-BeingWhen designing hygiene rooms in schools, you will need to consider a strategic colour contrast for enhanced sensory well-being. Instead of solely opting for calming colours, integrate high-contrast elements like light-coloured walls with dark or bright furnishings. This not only aids sensory wayfinding, particularly for children with autism, but also creates visually distinct zones within the space. Consider incorporating varied textures alongside the chosen colour palette to further enrich the sensory experience. By taking a thoughtful approach to colour contrast, hygiene rooms can become incredibly positive and inclusive spaces that support the well-being of all students. To ConcludeIn summary, this guide advocates for a comprehensive approach to inclusivity when installing hygiene rooms in schools. Prioritising adherence to guidelines, making innovative equipment choices, and adopting thoughtful design are central to creating educational spaces that address the diverse needs of students. With these insights, professionals can work towards seamlessly integrating inclusivity into the very fabric of educational environments. Our skilled team has many years of experience planning and installing equipment in public spaces like schools and universities. Please do get in touch if you need help or advice with your project or further support on the government requirements for equipment to support SEND students.

GEC Anderson was also chosen for their ability to provide the sinktop configurations to meet the design requirements.Managing Director of GEC Anderson, Martin Tye, comments: “This is a situation where practical requirements must be satisfied but where design and use of natural, balanced, honest materials are, equally, of importance. Chester Zoo sensor taps

Ecoprod Technique

Ranked as the best zoo in Europe, and the third best zoo in the world, Chester Zoo, in Cheshire, UK, has long-been considered a pioneering attraction that many other zoos aspire to. With over 1.8 million visitors a year, the Zoo has specified CONTI+ sensor taps for its visitor washrooms as part of a number of water-saving initiatives .In 2018, the Zoo started a refurbishment project of its washroom facilities, choosing the CONTI+ Ultra sensor taps for all their washbasins. Ecoprod– a Conti+ distribution partner and supplier of environmental washroom solutions was the link that enabled this project to happen, through a consultation process.“Working with the Mechanical Services Supervisor at Chester Zoo has been very straightforward as his hands on experience and knowledge of this sector is comprehensive. We provided a few products to install in both ladies and gents washrooms for a trial period to get feedback from staff and other stakeholders. The Ultra tap was quite quickly considered by all to be the preferred choice and was therefore specified going forwards for all washroom refurbishment works”Marcus Rose, Sales Manager Ecoprod.Ultra is one of the most innovative sensor tap solutions from CONTI+. It works particularly well for leisure spaces and attractions as it can be powered by battery, turbine or solar, avoiding the need for electricity in the tap area. The battery lasts for up to four years, meaning maintenance is minimal and, when it is time to change the battery this can be done quickly and easily through an access point on the top of the product avoiding labour intensive access into vanity units. From an environmental and cost-saving perspective, the Ultra ticks all the boxes. Great design, with sophisticated sensor function, water saving can reach an impressive 70% compared with a more traditional tap. And in attractions, with a high volume of users, the touch free system provides a more hygienic way to wash hands, reducing the spread of germs and ensuring each user has a clean tap to use.Of course, as a Swiss-designed and assembled product, manufactured in the Conti+ facilities in Switzerland, Chester Zoo can rest assured that the Ultra taps are built to last and will work first time, every time.

The worktops were cut to fit various kitchen appliances and then treated and sealed to make them stain proof.Spanning over 6 metres, separate large BTX concrete panels were carefully assembled on site and fitted with brass sink and taps by our experienced team. The finished effect is a modern, industrial look that complements client’s design style and blends perfectly with the raw plastered walls and concrete floors, which together create a truly unique and highly functional kitchen.

French Protestant Church, Soho

French Protestant Church, Soho

Anderson, GEC Ltd

The responsive service and high standard of craftsmanship offered by stainless steel specialist, GEC Anderson has led to the manufacturer repeating the success of a previous collaboration with a design practice renowned for its expertise in historic buildings: creating a commercial style kitchen within a very confined space in the undercroft to London’s French Protestant Church.  Although it was established in London by Royal Charter five centuries ago in 1550, the French Protestant Church’s current home in Soho Square was designed by Sir Aston Webb and was completed in 1893. The current contract came about partly as the result of an aspiration for improved facilities, able to cater for larger numbers of people and a pressing need to replace the sub-structure’s failing tanking system. Caroe Architecture Ltd. was duly appointed as the lead consultant while Coniston Ltd. was the main contractor for the work.Having worked with GEC Anderson on previous projects such as The Old Deanery in the City of London, Caroe Architecture was confident in seeking the company’s advice on the possibilities for the refit in the very confined space of the barrel-vaulted crypt. GEC responded by conducting a detailed site survey, followed by a ‘templating’, supply and installation contract.  The Project Architect, Alanah Honey, commented: “Not only was the existing, domestic scale kitchen beneath the French Protestant Church not meeting its full needs, but the failure of the old waterproofing measures required the walls to be taken right back to bare brickwork for repair. From previously just providing tea and coffee, the client wanted to move to more of a commercial scale installation, but unfortunately there wasn’t the space or the extract capacity for a full commercial facility, we therefore went for the highest specification we could, calling on the services of GEC Anderson on the basis of our past experience of working with the company.”  “The fit-out has gone very well with GEC installing all of its stainless steel drawer units, shelves and work-surfaces as well as providing a detailed specification for the church to purchase all the appliances direct, to help keep within budget. We are delighted to have been appointed to York Minster this year, having been nominated as Inspecting Architects to a number of other Cathedrals and major churches over the last 10 years. So our work is expanding significantly beyond London and Cambridge – also involving National Trust properties as well as the Oxbridge Colleges – so there is the likelihood for further cooperation with GEC.”   Benedicte Fougier, the President of the Consistory stated, “On the advice of our architects, Caroe Architecture Ltd., we contracted GEC Anderson to design and build a kitchen in our quirky, grade 2* historical building which was no small feat given the many architectural constraints. GEC Anderson has been terrific, coming up with creative ideas and delivering exactly what we needed and more. They have been extremely professional and personable throughout, very engaged with us through constant communication and adjusting their design until the last minute to take into account our needs”. Since its formation in 1962, GEC Anderson has built its reputation for the supply of top end stainless steel sinks and sanitaryware on a combination of innovative design, top quality materials and expert craftsmanship. In addition to the company’s Decimetric system of cabinets, sinks, drainers and other equipment - widely specified for sectors including health and catering - the company’s custom engineered solutions have been selected for some of the country’s top sports, entertainment and leisure destinations.

Canada Water Library, London

Canada Water Library, London

Spearheading an ambitious programme of regeneration, Canada Water Library resembles an inverted ‘ziggurat’ – a terraced pyramid of successively receding storeys – that partly overhangs the Canada Water basin. The £1.4m building sits at the edge of a civic plaza and a stretch of open water. The expanding pyramid form integrates a compact footprint at ground level with progressively wider floors above. The building is clad in light bronze anodised aluminium panels with sequined perforations, interspersed with recessed curtain wall screens. This design gives the project a sculptural appeal and a striking visual effect.Finished in bronze anodised aluminium, the structural sealant glazed facade and commercial doors were specified for the ground floor. A Visible Grid Facade has being used for the strips of curtain walling to the three upper floors, with top hung concealed vents and aluminiumdoors providing access to the balconies. The library forms part of the vibrant quayside at Canada Water - a historic Docklands that was once a bustling port. It was designed to exemplify the importance of the library, education and community facilities for local people and focus on the new phase of regeneration.

GEC Anderson Contribution To New Art Facility At Stowe School

Anderson, GEC Ltd

Decimetric stainless steel sinktops, from GEC Anderson, are included within nine separate educational spaces to the newly renovated and highly impressive art building at the prestigious Stowe School in Buckingham.Stowe House was created by Sir Richard Temple in 1676 and over the next century rebuilt into the great classical show house and remarkable landscaped gardens and parkland. In 1923, the house became a school and is now a co-educational independent boarding school for over 750 boys and girls aged 13-18 years. As a consequence of the growing demand for art at Stowe School, and the need for the provision of art and design in one building on the existing site, a £2.5 million renovation and extension project took place. The project, designed by Rick Mather Architects and funded by Lord Sainsbury, transformed a tired 1930s building into a contemporary education space. The Art School now has a modern interior with plenty of extra space to offer facilities for a wide range of curriculum requirements ranging from Fine Art Drawing to Printmaking.Decimetric Classic stainless steel sinktops from GEC Anderson were specified in the Textile Room, Technician's Room, Office Kitchen, Printmaking Room, Dark Room and four Teaching areas to provide practical facilities that were durable, easy to maintain yet also attractive and inspiring to students.Sinktops of differing sizes were included to meet the individual requirements of the activities carried out. The flexible framework of sizes and options of the Decimetric range made for easy and accurate specification and a quick turnaround of the order. The sinktops, all made from professional grade stainless steel, included integral sink bowls and incorporated lipped edges to avoid spillage. The teaching rooms had extra-large sink bowls. Integral splashbacks were specified in certain areas. To bring it up to standard, the building was externally insulated and both ends raised and a staircase put in together with a mezzanine floor to provide extra space. John Morris, Head of Estates said, The original features such as windows have been kept in an effort to respect the existing form of the building.
