The New Carlsberg Foundation is housed in the old brewery yard on Brolæggerstræde, where both J. C. Jacobsen and his son Carl were born, and which was home to the original Carlsberg brewery.In autumn 2016, Stepless was approached by ELGAARD Architecture, which had been contracted to renovate and modernise the New Carlsberg Foundation’s headquarters, located on Brolæggerstræde in Copenhagen.The architecture firm asked Stepless to design an elegant and discreet solution consisting of a lifting platform that would fit with the historic building and the surrounding courtyard. In addition to providing accessibility for visitors with reduced mobility, the purpose of the solution was primarily to facilitate the process of moving sculptures from street level and into the building.

Sustainable Accoya cladding from International Timber has been used for the construction of a self-build farmhouse in Salisbury, designed by award-winning architect practice Adam Knibb Architects. 

SAS International delivered unrivalled metal ceiling solutions for a stunning refurbishment to The Atrium Building, Sandyford. SAS was selected for its unique SAS740i linear ceiling solution with integrated lighting. This ceiling design, characterised by floating rafts, influenced the entire atrium design. Specified in a contemporary grey, SAS740i rafts were suspended 20m below the glass atrium room through a stainless-steel cable system. Black SAS130 Mesh tiles were also installed to contribute to the industrial architecture. Completed in November 2018, SAS designed and delivered timeless metal ceiling solutions that will bring the building well into the next phase of its lifetime.

ProjectSurespan designed and manufactured a single leaf hatch that was installed in a residential home in Solihull, for access to an underground level gym.ProductThe HIACE external single leaf access hatch to fit a structural opening 1200 x 3400. The pan-type door was recessed for 40mm paving slabs infill with an EPDM unbroken seal to help prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. The floor hatch was fitted with a retractable safety grid operated by a 24v actuator. FeaturesRated at pedestrian loading, operated by two 24v DC Actuators. 40mm paving slabs infill. THE PROJECTThe village of Comrie is located towards the western edge of the Perth & Kinross Council area, approximately 40 kilometres west of Perth in Scotland. The waterproofing system used to cover the buried water tank at Comrie Distribution Service Reservoir (DSR) was many years old and had failed. As part of the ongoing Scottish Water SR21 framework, Fosroc and The Fraser Bruce Group have developed a wide range of solutions for waterproofing water tanks that have been proposed and agreed by both Morrison Construction and Scottish Water. This project involved removing the soil overburden and the existing waterproofing system, before mechanically preparing the deck and applying sheet membrane.THE SOLUTIONOnce the overburden and existing waterproofing were removed it was apparent that there was severe ponding on the tank roof. The decision was taken to prepare the deck and apply an external self-leveler to prevent the ponding of water. The perimeter and upstand detailing was carried out before Fosroc’s self-adhesive sheet membrane Proofex 3000 was applied to the primed, horizontal surface. The surface was then protected with Proofex Sheetdrain 80, a drainage and protection membrane. After the membrane was laid, the access hatch upstands received two coats of Nitocote CM210 before more Proofex 3000 was applied and terminated just below the height of the new overburden. The access hatches were then sealed in place with Nitoseal MS600.THE BENEFITSProofex 3000 membrane, which is cold applied and comes in 1m x 20m rolls, is self-adhesive, thereby reducing the amount of product and application time. The applicator was able to cover large areas in far less time. The membrane is made from cross laminated HDPE film to protect against damage, while still being sufficiently flexible for detailing around corners. It is resistant to ground water, soluble sulfates and chlorides, offering robust protection from aggressive ground salts. Its use with Sheetdrain achieved a high quality, reliable installation compliant with EN 13707:2004. By combining the use of Nitocote CM210 and Proofex 3000, Fosroc were able to provide solutions for both exposed and buried areas of the tank with no compatibility issues between the products.

Clarendon is a project undertaken by Berkeley Group in North London, as part of a regeneration scheme that will provide over 1,700 homes and 125,000 sq ft of commercial space.This project aims to make the best use of brownfield land and also highlight the benefit of master planning which helped the scheme win “the best 2022 planning award”.Sayfa Group supplied the Clarendon project through a partner contractor, responsible for the height safety and façade access systems throughout the project. There were various base types and styles required for a variety of locations such as balconies, terraces, and rooftops. However, of all the varieties there is no greater example of planning ahead than the Cast-In Davit Base.Why Davit cast-in bases?Davit systems are an essential solution for cleaning and maintenance strategies. They provide easy and safe access for rope abseil teams to access a building's façade.Cast-in Davit bases are the most cost-effective type of base for both initial and life cycle price basis. The Davits bases are set out to specific datums and are generally tied into the rebar instead of the traditional process of drilling concrete and resin fixing. The process for which is often time consuming, highly weather dependent, and prone to human error. The method of casting in bases accelerates the programme by removing interfaces and potential delays between the trade activities of installing the posts and insulating/weathering the surface. Beyond installation the ongoing maintenance price or 'lifetime cost' of 6 monthly LOLER inspections is significantly reduced. Project DescriptionThe capital of Austria, Vienna, is home to one of the country's most powerful structures: The parliament building from the 19th century comprises the seat of the two chambers of parliament, the National Council as well as the Federal Council of the Republic of Austria.As part of the general renovation of the historic building complex on Vienna's Ringstrasse, Lindner GmbH was involved in the construction project with numerous products and services. In addition to the repair of damage to the building fabric, the main objective was the general modernization of the property within the framework of the preservation of historical monuments. The combination of Lindner's modern hollow floor system FLOOR and more® and the historic overlay therefore met all the requirements. Forming an important part of a £200m redevelopment, the flagship three building Llys Cadwyn (Chain Court) mixed-use riverside development encompasses office and retail units alongside a state-of-the-art library, café, leisure fitness and community facilities in the heart of Pontypridd. Owner client, Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council, awarded the design of this eye-catching project to Darnton B3 Architects, who have worked with Willmott Dixon since 2018, to bring the innovative, ambitious £38m scheme to fruition. Around 9500m2 of Rockfon acoustic ceiling and wall systems are installed throughout the three building scheme to add a wow factor and help create healthy interiors where people can work, visit, study, socialise and relax. Architecture that looks and feels good The facades of two of the buildings are glazed, with those facing the riverside designed with sun-deflecting vertical fins in a mix of warm primary colours from yellow through to orange and red – adding a positive, contemporary accent. The third building sits in contrast to the others with its organic, aardvark curved outer shell clad completely in shimmering zinc tiles, reminiscent of the futuristic Bullring in Birmingham and the Guggenheim in Bilbao. The twin buildings required high levels of sound absorption due to the predominantly open-plan office interiors on their upper floors. Independent research shows that stress levels are reduced by 27% and focus is increased by 48% by improved acoustics in these environments. The high light reflectance offered by our ceiling systems optimises natural light, aiding wellbeing and helping provide the best working conditions whilst minimising energy usage and costs. Ensuring the desired Shhh In the Library, sound control was an obvious specification requirement. Happily, Rockfon ranges - including Rockfon® Universal™ Baffles - offer acoustic performance which deliver the desired Shh. Elsewhere in the café, gym and community spaces, our products are tough enough to deal with the impact of heavy use. Darnton B3 Project Architect, Martin Hurley, “I met with our client to discuss the acoustics in a large atria which sits between the children’s, and general reference libraries. We agreed to create a feature art wall using a selection of colours influenced by the council’s own corporate identity. The completed design works really well, delivering the visual impact and sound control we desired. Rockfon Eclipse® wall panels were used to create the stylish art wall, featuring dark greys, purples, turquoise, teal, lime and orange which were NCS-matched. Eclipse can be specified in a variety of shaped formats with a clean minimalistic A-edge and unlimited custom colour matching. Quick and easy to install, the fixing kit allows panels to be set at varying distances from the wall to enhance creative possibilities. Delivering the dream Tonypandy-based M&P Group, were responsible for the installation. The firm’s Andrew Pearce commented, “Co-ordinating the process of installation across three buildings within a tight, riverside, city-centre site presented particular challenges. It was vital the supply line remained on schedule, with deliveries on-time and in good order – something the Rockfon team helped ensure. Rockfon® Koral™ was used exclusively within washrooms and lobbies.” The Rockfon Blanka range offers a wide choice of alternatives for installation and usage. All embody Class A sound absorption (aw 1.00), 87% light reflection and >99% light diffusion and room to room sound Insulation >26dB. Blanka’s easy clean, anti-static surface prolongs product life and is non-directional, which speeds up installation, saving time and money. Within the futuristic building, an arrangement of elegant, circular, Rockfon Eclipse islands, in white, are hung from ceiling wires, creating the illusion they are floating in mid-air. In common with other Rockfon ranges, Rockfon Koral offers excellent sound absorption and the highest fire safety characteristics. It is easy to clean with a vacuum or a damp cloth and is available in semi-concealed and visible grid options.

AATi Rail supplied the SN293/WL/280B on two staircases providing safer access to existing staircases. This nosing gives flexibility with a bevelled back edge reducing the installation cost associated with insetting the nosing into a stair, enabling installation straight onto the existing substrate. AATi worked closely with Client – Network Rail to ensure a high-performance solution was delivered on an extremely high footfall station where stair access can bottleneck.

Installation of Profab Access' INTEGRA 4000 Series riser doors with PRECISION adjustable frame at 8 Bishopsgate

A Stannah Platform Lift is weaving tailored access throughout Whitchurch Silk Mill, a Grade II*-listed Georgian working watermill undergoing a £2.1m regeneration into a fully accessible, industrial heritage attraction. Built in 1815 and sited on the River Test near Winchester, Hampshire, this historic mill weaves silk fabrics using 19th-century machinery. One of just four working silk mills in the country, it is the only one open to visitors. As such, accessibility is key to the mill’s ongoing Preserving the Fabric project, a Heritage Lottery Fund scheme focused on the mill’s sustainable future.

The Centre for Agricultural and Biosciences International (CABI) is an inter-governmental, not-for-profit organization that improves people’s lives worldwide by providing information and applying scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture and the environment.His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales opened the old CABI headquarters in September 1987. Over time, the former school building had become outdated and was no longer fit for purpose, being uneconomical in terms of layout and energy efficiency, and required a high level of maintenance.

Seen on all street entrances and internal staircases, AATi type SN93/SL3/140 + SN93/SL3/280 cast metal anti-slip stair nosings are featured throughout and also include London Underground corporate Blue anti-slip resin inserts.

The Birmingham New Street refurbishment completely re-imagined the Pallasades shopping centre situated above the station. SAS designed, supplied and installed several bespoke metal ceilings specified for the lower retail area within the mall: A mall link feature installed below glass reinforced gypsum features in the mall’s access areas.A lozenge shaped, metal can ceiling with integrated lighting, a slatted SAS700 linear ceiling and SAS320 alongside linear grilles. The aim was to create an ideal meeting place which would serve as a gateway to Birmingham. A massive 50 million people are expected through the door each year.

Motorline Renault car showroom in Maidstone had an access issue during building, with customer showrooms and a meeting room spread between 2 floors. Surespan has manufactured and supplied a large access hatch in the engine house of Heathrow Airport’s new terminal five. The three-leaf hatch – which measures 6 x 3 metres – can take up to 5kN/m² loading. It has an electric actuator opening which can be activated remotely and is fire rated for up to two hours. Bill Burke, Contracts Manager at Heathrow Airport said: “We were very impressed with Surespan’s proactive approach throughout the whole project. The hatch has been well received by the authorities at Heathrow”

Bilco UK’s special zinc-clad Roof Access Hatches and Smoke Vents chosen for the Zaha Hadid designed Glasgow Transport Museum, Scotland. The roof specification included Smoke Vents and Roof Access to blend with the roof finish. Bilco supplied modified units with zinc cladding to achieve the desired look. To enable safe roof maintenance, a modified E-50T Hatch was supplied and installed to the 46 degree sloping roof enabling maintenance staff to gain easy, safe access to roof equipment

SAS International designed and supplied metal ceiling products to the beautiful offices of Allied Irish Bank, Molesworth Street. Collaborating with RKD Architects & StructureTone, a range of systems including SAS130, SAS330 triangular fused mesh panels, SAS330 planks and SAS Tee Grid were supplied to accommodate the office area, boardroom and communal areas. SAS130 Mesh was chosen for its aesthetic and Class A acoustic absorption capability, enhancing a productive working atmosphere ideal for an open plan space. To overcome a specific challenge with the breakout area on the project, the SAS330 triangular suspended mesh panels were manufactured with a fused edge detail.

The International Rugby Experience is a new cultural institution and visitor experience to honour the worldwide game of rugby.Niall McLaughlin Architects specified BASWA Phon for its ability to conform to the complex curved design and excellent acoustic performance. The marble plaster acoustic finish was tinted to a bespoke colour and matched to the red bricks used in the project. Over 600 square metres of BASWA Phon was used throughout the project, expertly installed by QT Interiors of Ireland.
