TS.11204 Cam Action Door CloserThe 153-bedroom Village Hotel is a recent addition to the growing Village Hotels chain. As its fitting out neared completion, we were contacted by our client, who reported a problem with the doors not being held fully shut by the closers. This would obviously be a fire safety issue and, with 307 doors to fit, was a challenge that needed to be overcome quickly.Rutland personnel visited the site to diagnose the cause and found that the door architraves were deeper than normal. This extra depth reduced the pre-tension capacity of the closer to hold the door shut.The solution identified was to increase the angle of the closer arm when the doors were closed from five to ten degrees. Back at Rutland headquarters, this design modification was quickly made to the TS.11204 closer and the revised versions supplied.They worked perfectly, thereby enabling the hotel to keep the desired door closer specification and know that all its doors were fully fire safety compliant.

Elevating Artistry and Functionality at 30 Berkeley Square.Nestled at the intersection of Davies Street and Mount Street, commanding a breath taking view of Berkeley Square, 30 Berkeley Square has become a distinguished landmark within Mayfair. The recent renovation aimed not only to enhance the aesthetics but also to create functional spaces for art showcases and auctions.Our contribution to this transformative project extended beyond the visual spectacle, focusing on the functionality of the space. We supplied bespoke metal riser doors, carefully crafted to blend seamlessly with the overall aesthetic. Fire-rated and tailored to precise specifications, these doors play a crucial role in maintaining safety standards while ensuring a cohesive design throughout the building.To complement the artistic ambiance and add a touch of elegance, timber leaf riser doors were introduced. These bespoke doors, crafted with precision, contribute to the overall aesthetic harmony while serving as functional components within the space. The integration of timber leaf riser doors reflects a commitment to both safety and sophisticated design.

Salamander Street is a mid-market rent initiative that provides high quality affordable homes in the heart of Leith, Edinburgh. It comprises 199 flats and maisonettes across six storeys of accommodation, constructed over a basement car park.It was designed by 7N Architects, which specified Knauf Insulation’s 50mm Rocksilk® RainScreen Slab to insulate the ventilated façade. They chose this product because it met the brief’s two critical performance factors: thermal performance and fire safety.It is a Rock Mineral Wool insulation slab with a thermal conductivity of 0.034W/mK, so it delivers the required U-value of 0.16 W/m2K. It is non-combustible with the best possible Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification and is BBA certified for use in a wide range of build-ups in high rise buildings. This means it complies with Building Regulations in Scotland that restrict the use of combustible materials on most buildings over 11m.The Salamander Street development was overseen by main contractor Cruden Building East with sub-contractor Soundtex responsible for installing the insulation.It was constructed using an Ancon Brick Restraint System. Ancon has undertaken independent third-party tests to demonstrate that its restraint system does not require a compression sleeve when used in conjunction with Rocksilk® RainScreen Slab under 180mm thick. This provided a huge saving in labour costs for Soundtex as fasteners are usually inserted into compression sleeves by hand.Throughout the build, Knauf Insulation’s Specification Team attended regular project meetings and conducted site visits to check the quality and progress of installation. Rocksilk® RainScreen Slab is optimised for ease of installation and improved robustness, making it easy to manoeuvre into position. At Salamander Street, the Specification Team noted the uniformity of installation and perfectly staggered joints. This is important because it ensures there are no gaps, which could reduce thermal and acoustic performance – a common issue with rigid foam board insulation.Rocksilk® RainScreen Slab is manufactured with ECOSE® Technology, Knauf Insulation's unique bio-based binder that contains no added formaldehyde or phenol. It is made from natural raw materials that are rapidly renewable and is 70% less energy-intensive to manufacture than traditional binders, so it is more environmentally friendly.Products made with ECOSE® Technology are soft to touch and easy to handle. They generate low levels of dust and VOCs and have been awarded the Eurofins Gold Certificate for Indoor Air Comfort.The Rocksilk® RainScreen Slab insulation was installed in conjunction with Knauf Windliner sheathing board for maximum performance.Thanks to Knauf Insulation, the residents of Salamander Street will enjoy warm, cosy homes that meet the highest standards of fire safety.

Collaborating with John Turner Construction, Team BOYCO was approached to transform Kendal College’s newly built T-Level Construction Block with our fixed furniture solutions, with the customer requesting Worktops, Cupboards, and Shelving.Project ScopeLocated on the outskirts of the Lake District, Kendal College focuses on its ethos of 'Creating Bright Futures'. Offering a variety of courses, from A-Level to Degree, to a range of ages they sought to enhance their classroom space and create a practical yet comfortable learning environment. The BOYCO Way BackgroundA requirement from the client was for the product to be manufactured and installed as whole package something which BOYCO, with our own British Factory and expert installation team, was readily available to provide.Due to tools being frequently used as part of the learning experience and construction curriculum; it was important for the worktops in the T-Level block to be robust and able to withstand repeat impact.Due to this, our in-house team of designers opted to use Econo-Top worktops. Suitable for workstations, the material boasts optimal scratch and wear resistance; perfect for the construction-focused classroom, and therefore a great choice for the customer.Merinolam FR+ Laminate Sheet, in the style of ‘Castle Concrete’, was used on the exterior of the worktop after our sales team provided samples of different options to the contractor, to support with final design decisions. Not only did this add to the durability due to its phenolic resin coating which creates flame retardant properties, but it was cost-effective and provided a clean aesthetic finish to the classroom worktops. Quality Bespoke Products5 Tier adjustable shelving was installed within the Construction Block Storerooms. As per the BOYCO standard, all our metal work has been processed with our ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon coating. 500x abrasion-resistant than the next powdered coating alternative, it is easily able to withstand daily usage by the students for many years to come. This is particularly vital in a construction learning environment, where heavy and sharp tools are frequently used, therefore reflecting BOYCO’s ‘Built to Last’ exceptional quality.Our ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon also contains Anti-Microbial properties. Formulated to stop bacteria from surviving on its surface, it prevents the spread of 99% of all known bacteria. Beneficial to Kendal College, it contributes to the health and well-being of all in the classroom and complies with school safety standards.In addition to the adjustable shelving, fixed Wall Cupboards were installed in the Workshops. This storage solution ensures that students have easy access to the materials and items that they need to keep close to hand whilst working on the worktops below. The multiple storage areas help to keep the Workshop environments tidy due to equipment being organised behind the cupboard doors.Whilst completing the works on site at the College, we were notified that underfloor heating was present in the areas that BOYCO were due to fit out. We were quick to work closely with John Turner Construction to provide a solution to ensure that this wouldn’t impact the design and install. This was not a problem for us, as with over 60 years of heritage in the manufacturing business, we overcame this obstacle by utilising suitable shallow screws and fixings to avoid puncturing the structure underneath. Project SuccessThroughout the project, from design to install, Team BOYCO visited the site to ensure exceptional standards were delivered at each and every project touchpoint.Joining forces with John Turner Construction, we worked meticulously to ensure Kendal College’s requests were met. This resulted in the construction block being finished to an impeccable standard.Creating a fantastic end result, BOYCO is super proud to have worked on this project and to have positively contributed to the learning environment of future construction industry workers.

Client: Manchester Airport Group Architect: Pascall Watson Consulting Engineer: Burro Happold Main Contractor: Laing O’Rourke Specialist Contractor: Thelwell Flooring Main Products Used: Emseal SJS System and Emshield DSMThis new 9-storey car park with 3,800 spaces, was built as part of the £1 billion Terminal-2 redevelopment for Manchester Airport Group (MAG). To save time and space on site, the consultants used an innovative design, with a hybrid combination of steel delta beams and precast concrete, then on site the hollow-core precast floor slabs were topped with a 100mm thick reinforced concrete screed. To fully accommodate the anticipated levels of thermal movement and loadings in service, the engineers incorporated wide, high movement capability, structural expansion joints across the parking decks, between the different sections of the building. Given the dimensions of the deck joints (100mm) and the high movement capability required (100% = +/- 50%), with simultaneous exposure to the elements whilst under frequent heavy traffic, the joint sealing solution could only be specified as the Emseal SJS System. This unique structural expansion joint system easily accommodates high levels of movement in more than one plane, plus it has an integral coverplate to provide protection of the central movement section and the joint arrises. Importantly, the Emseal SJS is bonded into position with a structural epoxy adhesive from above, therefore requiring no access from below and enabling other works (e.g. M&E cable works etc.) to continue, plus as it is fully bonded, the SJS system requires no potentially damaging drilling into sound concrete to install mechanical fixings. In less trafficked wide joints at the perimeter, the Emseal DSM System was used, as a cover plate was not necessary.

The new building with its generous glass facade was constructed under the castle rock and now accommodates the guest rooms. Between the old and the new building, there is an approximately 800m² big spa and pool area engrafted in the topography of the castle rock. The historic buildings surrounding the castle yard are used for social purposes, medical fitness, healthy living and mindfulness training of the body, soul and mind. The exclusive design of the indoor rooms is not to be compared with the magnificence of the outside of the buildings.Noble materials and luxurious items of furniture in the guest rooms create an ideal setting for convalescence and relaxation. This temporary home equipped with KEUCO furnishings and accessories in the bathroom offer the guests plenty of storage space for personal care products. Not only do the PLAN vanity unit and tall unit in unobtrusive truffle offer generous storage space, but the light mirror with a frame offers additional storage space. The perfect light lets the windowless bathrooms appear brighter and friendlier. The integrated mirror heating makes it possible to look in the mirror after a hot and relaxing shower.IXMO fittings in a strong design offer intuitive use to reach the right temperature. Matching accessories nicely round-off the bathroom interior in a coherent way and perfectly match the high-class concept of the clinic.

Re-designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, Metalskolen conference centre on North Zealand, Denmark, has undergone a complete transformation. The new, contemporary interior features a total of 2,300m2 15mm Oak Classic plank flooring, fitted throughout circulation and breakout areas as well as in all conference rooms. Delivered unfinished, the solid oak flooring was finished on-site using Junckers’ Rustic Oil in White to create a pale floor which reflects a lot of natural light. True to architectural traditions commonly applied in the Nordic countries, SHL has created an inclusive and nurturing space, providing the perfect setting for learning, reflection and relationship building. Not only concerned with light and aesthetics, SHL base their work on democracy, welfare, sustainability and social responsibility, a commitment which results in buildings with a high degree of wellbeing. A light-coloured floor helps enhance lighting levels, reducing the need for artificial light and therefore saves energy. In contrast to a dark surface, which absorbs and holds heat and subsequently releases it back into the room, a pale floor will not contribute to overheating, reducing the need for air conditioning systems. With a perfectly smooth surface, a solid wood floor from Junckers cannot harbour dust or mites. As an all-natural material, wood contributes to an even and balanced indoor climate as it helps maintain temperature in a room and reduces static from any electrical equipment. Junckers’ floors hold the Danish Indoor Climate label and have undergone extensive degassing and odour testing to ensure there are no chemical substances in the flooring. Junckers also complies with EU legislation REACH. 

Hoptbühl playing field in Villingen-Schwenningen, featuring products from PolytanA GEM OF A SPORTS FACILITYGood things come to those who wait, including in Villingen-Schwenningen. It took 20 years for the school playing field at Hoptbühl Gymnasium to be renovated. But all is well that ends well: the fully renovated sports field is proving to be a real gem. It features various products from sports surface specialist, Polytan.The road to the new sports facility was indeed long and rocky: barely linear, it was full of surprising twists and turns. The low point was when the dilapidated site was completely shut for safety reasons, and outdoor sport had to be removed from the school timetable. Then things started to change: in May 2019, the local council decided that the sports facility at Hoptbühl would finally be renovated. The result is an absolute gem that is unrivalled in the local area.After 15 months’ construction time, young athletes in Villingen-Schwenningen are delighted by a new artificial turf pitch surrounded by a four-lane running track, three long jump and two high jump runways, a throwing circle for shot put, a small playing field, two beach volleyball courts, three bouldering walls and a calisthenics street workout park. The sports facility was designed by Martin B. Kuberczyk of k3 LandschaftsArchitektur, based in Villingen-Schwenningen, and realised by Erhard Gfrörer & Sohn Schotterwerk, based in nearby Empfingen.Professional sports surfaces for successful training and competitionThe new facility features LigaTurf Cross football turf, in which Polytan has successfully combined artificial turf systems with textured (crimped) and smooth filaments. The former are known for their high cost-efficiency, robustness and low maintenance, while the latter are extremely popular among footballers for their authentic ball rolling characteristics, just like on natural grass. The running track was constructed using Polytan’s Rekortan M in rainbow blue, a professional sports surface for track and field stadiums, school sports facilities and competitive running tracks. The water-permeable, pour-coated surface is characterised by excellent acceleration and high tread elasticity. Users of the calisthenics street workout park are protected by Polytan’s PolyPlay FS fall protection surface, also in rainbow blue. The bulk-coated, water-permeable covering is extremely easy to care for and, thanks to its cushioning effect, protects against injuries in the event of falls.The attractive outdoor sports facility has been used by Hoptbühl’s 600 or so high school students since the start of the 2021/22 school year. To ensure optimal utilisation, students from the neighbouring Christy Brown School and Albert Schweitzer School can also use the facility for track and field, climbing, football or beach volleyball. In addition, the field is used by local clubs in the evening, and is therefore equipped with floodlights.The opening ceremony for the renovated sports field took place at the Hoptbühl Gymnasium in September, with a very special sports festival: just like at the Olympic Games, classes of students entered the stadium and mastered the various facilities in no time.

Polytan: A broad spectrum at the Revierpark Vonderort, OberhausenIN THE MIDST OF TRANSFORMATIONThe Revierpark Vonderort in Oberhausen is designed as a family-friendly local attraction: in the middle of an expansive park landscape, various immersive worlds with sports, swimming and wellness facilities invite visitors and guests to experience leisure with all their senses – from sports and games to relaxation and action, all the way through to cultural experiences and nature – the park has it all. Activities and nature discovery are given equal emphasis under the slogan “Park in motion”.In the course of the renovation and revitalisation of what is known as the “exercise hill”, the concept of a multisports area was developed. It offers a wealth of different sports activities, including pump tracks for children and adults, a parkours and calisthenics area, a running circuit and a sprint track. A miniature playing field and various team sports fields invite guests to try out fun and trendy sports disciplines together. The goal of the project, which cost around 1.33 million euros, was to motivate as many target groups as possible to move more by expanding the existing, mostly monostructural sports facilities in the Oberhausen area with new, freely accessible leisure opportunities. Alongside the standard, traditional sports, the new facilities were to accommodate popular new trend sports as well. We installed suitable surfaces in several of these modern, innovative sports facilities.The sprint track, running circuit and one of the two miniature playing fields, which is designed for basketball and volleyball, feature our “classic” Rekortan M in the colour brick red. The poured in-situ surface is suitable for athletics stadiums, competitive running tracks and school sports facilities, and is loved by professionals and amateurs alike – not least, thanks to its exceptionally high, joint-friendly shock absorption. It is ideal for running disciplines in particular, as it is suitable for spikes and lends itself to speed.The second miniature playing field, which is intended for football and hockey, and the multipurpose arena are equipped with Poligras, complete with CoolPlus function. We developed this unfilled synthetic turf system to meet the requirements of a professional hockey turf. Its outstanding properties include high wear resistance, good water storage, and permanent crimping. Poligras stands out for its extraordinary volume and durability – and yet, despite this robustness, the surface is exceptionally soft and feels pleasant to the touch. The special Polytan CoolPlus function prevents the surface from heating up too quickly or intensely in strong sunlight. This reduces water consumption, helping ensure environmentally friendly use.In future, the multipurpose field will be used as a Yalp arena, appealing to the youngest athletes. Yalp is “play” backwards and refers to the integration of technology in games, sport and outdoor education. In the compact, interactive arena, children and young people get to move with lots of opportunities for ball contact. Since the game takes place within a small space, every player is involved at all times. The slanted corners and four goals on each side of the arena keep the game and all its players in motion.The fitness area and calisthenics facility are secured with our PolyPlay FS GT fall protection surface, which has a cushioning effect for maximum protection against injuries underneath the sports and gym equipment. The sky blue surface on the exercise hill is bulk-coated and water-permeable, as well as exceptionally low-maintenance. Optimum resistance to weathering and decay are the basis for its long service life and low maintenance costs. Fall protection surfaces are known to be the more hygienic, lower-maintenance and, above all, safer option, compared with sandpits.With the renovation of the exercise hill, the project orchestrators from the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR) have not only provided a wide variety of sports and exercise opportunities for young and old, but responded to increasingly apparent general trends in sports behaviour. Many sports clubs and municipalities have observed increasing disinterest in traditional organised club sports, and in its place, the growing popularity of self-organised sports in the public sphere. A global construction, energy and infrastructure organisation required a durable, chemical resistant floor coating solution with an anti-slip profile that would withstand the daily wear and tear of its internal vehicle repair and maintenance facility. VINCI Construction is part of VINCI Group, a multinational enterprise with operations in the energy, infrastructure and construction industries. Founded in 1899, the company now has a presence in over 120 countries with a global team of around 220,000 people. The Widnes facility is one of ten VINCI Construction UK locations and houses, among other facilities, a vehicle maintenance workshop where the company ensures their fleet of general and specialist vehicles. The industrial unit that houses the workshop previously had a concrete paving slab floor that proved to be uneven, unsafe, and difficult to maintain.  Not only did the new flooring solution need to address these concerns, it also needed to be both slip and chemical resistant as well as feature clearly marked automotive bays and provide enough durability to withstand frequent wheeled traffic as well as the impact of dropped tools and the weight of heavy equipment. Installed in a combination of RAL 7037 Dusty Grey and RAL 6024 Traffic Green, vebrores EP HBC was installed across the 332 m2 vehicle workshop, with the Traffic Green used to mark out the facility’s six automotive bays, before being outlined using vebrodeck PU Linemarker in Yellow. Prior to the installation of vebrores EP HBC SR – a system comprising an initial layer of vebro EP Primer followed two coats of vebro EP Universal with a broadcast of 52 mesh silica sand after the first coat for an anti-slip profile – the pre-existing concrete paving slabs were first coated with an epoxy DPM and a 20.0 mm screed to level the surface. vebrores EP HBC SR is a pigmented, solvent-free, slip-resistant high build epoxy floor coating system that is best suited to floors in medium duty processing areas where a textured, hard-wearing, chemical resistant finish is required. Available in a wide range of BS 4008 or RAL matched shades, the system is ideally suited to areas where there is a need for navigational demarcation and zoning.

It was selected because of its thermal efficiency and suitability for use with living roof systems. Partnered with ProTherm’s excellent insulation, the complex timber roof now boasts a waterproof system that is BBA Certified to last the lifetime of the building.The wooden structure evokes the ships that once sailed into West India Dock and provides a warm, natural counterpoint to the steel and glass towers of Canary Wharf.And with Radmat’s high performance products and lifetime guarantee, the green roof terrace at Crossrail Place will be a living oasis in the heart of London’s financial district for years to come.

Mono M310/M311 Glass InfillSt George’s junior school is an independent Roman Catholic school with a high standard of facilities. Construction of ‘The Ark’ provided a new early years teaching block, which includes modern classrooms, a dedicated IT suite, a new assembly room and outdoor learning areas. The two-storey building has a staircase at each end and Delta Balustrades’ Mono™ system was specified with powder-coated steel balusters and 11.5mm toughened and laminated glass infill panels. The Mono™ system handrails were provided in oak to offer a warmer finish in the primary school environment and each staircase features a dual handrail with one handrail mounted at a 600mm height for the children and the other in parallel at 900mm for the teachers. The Ark features an outdoor teaching area at first floor level with a balcony accessed from the internal classrooms. Once again, Delta Balustrades’ Mono™ system was specified with powder coated balusters to match the grey of the window casings. The 11.5mm toughened and laminated glass infill panels have no handrails but have been installed at a height of 1500mm to provide additional edge protection. A further small triangular balcony at the side of the building has been specified with the same system as the main first floor balcony. At ground level, the building features steps and ramps and a combination of Mono™ balusters and Orbis™ handrails with a Sigma stainless steel finish have been used to provide guarding, with 10mm toughened glass infill panels.Finally, the stone steps leading to the nursery classrooms were specified with an Orbis™ handrail.

The project has won multiple awards including the coveted NHBC ‘Pride in the Job’ award for H&S and the seal of excellence for quality.Systems in useExcel®ChallengesThe ‘curved’ bulk-heads, walls and interior finishes presented a special challenge to our on-site team, one that would be present over multiple floors and apartments.The system needed to be both robust and aesthetically pleasing, as the roofs are overlooked by residents and used as amenity spaces, and the colour had to be in keeping with the traditional Bath stone.In addition to this, the project featured many unique and complex terraces in terms of shape, threshold height, u-value requirements and access.SolutionsTo achieve both a level threshold and a good thermal performance, we designed a unique tapered insulation scheme for the terraces, utilising our Excel system, reinforced bitumen waterproofing membrane, in combination with our high performance and cost effective Hytherm VIP (Vacuum Packed Insulation) insulation scheme.To meet the aesthetics guidelines dictated by the local planning authority, the capsheet membrane was specified with a white granular finish, which provided the unique look the authorities were looking for.To ensure the terraces were installed correctly and in accordance with Axter requirements, we worked in close partnership with the development construction team. In conjunction with Avonside, a ‘traffic light’ system was introduced to ensure that each individual terrace had been checked by our Quality Assurance team, that it had been independently integrity tested and that it was installed in accordance with the architect’s details, upon which the guarantees were issued and the finishes thereafter installed.

In 2018, Cyclehoop designed and delivered two major Cycle Hubs for the London Borough of Enfield. These were the first cycle hubs to be provided in the borough and were delivered as part of the award-winning Cycle Enfield scheme.Both Cycle Hubs are steel and glass structures with CCTV and provide cycle parking for 50 bikes and three non-standard cycles such as cargo bikes. They can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by using an access card. Members can make use of a bike pump and repair stand so that they can make quick repairs and keep their tyres pumped whilst on the go.Cyclehoop is managing the membership of both cycle hubs on behalf of Enfield Council.Cycle Hub FacilitiesThe Enfield Town Cycle Hub and the Edmonton Green Cycle Hub are fitted with user-friendly cycle parking and repair facilities, as well as featuring an industry-leading security and access control system.Each Cycle Hub provides cycle parking for 50 bikes and is fitted with Optima Two Tier Racks. This is a space-saving solution that doubles the amount of cycle parking compared with traditional cycle racks. The Two-Tier racks can accommodate most types of bikes and feature gas-assisted moveable upper sections that make it easy to position them in the racking. Members can easily secure their bikes to the locking bar which has been welded into the design rather than the less secure bolted version in our competitors’ solutions. We have installed 3 ground anchors to accommodate non-standard cycles – each with its own marked out space.The door has been fitted with an industry-leading access control system allowing members to get in and out via access card 24 hours a day. Lighting and CCTV cameras are in operation throughout giving extra assurances of security.The Cycle Hubs also feature a Public Repair Stand and an Indoor Pump which provide members with the resources to make repairs on the go as well as pumping up deflated tyres.Design and Build ProcessEnfield Council chose two locations within the borough, each one connected to a local transport link, as well as amenities and shopping centres to accommodate the footfall. These locations were Enfield Town Railway Station and Edmonton Green Railway Station. Planning permission was required to develop the land.Enfield Council required two secure Cycle Hubs that maximised cycle parking spaces and the structure needed to be modular to allow it to be extended in future. Enfield is a growing borough that is regenerating and constantly growing, therefore this needed to be reflected in the design of the Cycle Hub.Each Cycle Hub is a steel and glass structure designed as a modern facility for securely storing cycles. The new buildings are located to the rear of a Grade II listed school building which was retained as part of the development. The £36.1m project forms part of the Government Priority School Building Programme (PSBP).

Over 1,000 Profile 22 Optima Chamfered Windows have been used in a conversion project in Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire. Sim Chem House in Cheadle Hulme was a six storey office block built in the 1960s. The building had been empty for many years and fallen into disrepair. It was purchased by developers Inspired Homes to be redeveloped into 184 studio, one and two bed ultra-high quality apartments aimed at young homeowners.

A £4.6 million project by Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) delivered family homes for affordable rent on a neglected brownfield site as part of a series of measures to maximise energy efficiency. he award winning windows deliver easy-to-maintain aesthetics, but, more importantly for this project, exceptional security and low U values.

The front garden consisted of the typical grass, a narrow footpath, and shrubs. It was prepared prior to arrival removing all elements including the soil which was made level and topped with a free-draining compacted stone, this is the required substrate for SureSell. Once the cellular structure is in place it's filled with loose stone and then suitable for a final layer of smooth yet permeable resin bound paving.

The frontage of the Ocean Terminal shopping centre in Edinburgh has received a radical makeover as part of a major investment to increase footfall by enhancing the visitor experience. The extension has been covered with STEREO-KINETIC cladding; hundreds of freely-moving stainless steel sheets suspended from grating panels. Gusts of wind, traffic, even people walking by cause the metal rectangles to ripple in an ever-changing display. The kinetic artwork has been designed in such a way as to allow the passage of natural daylight through the underlying window openings on the second floor level.

Hadrian’s Tower is the tallest building in Newcastle at 82 metres high. Located in the heart of the city, it is a residential skyscraper with 162 luxury apartments. The tower has 26 storeys, and incorporates a champagne lounge and a coffee house among other communal spaces.
