For the construction of a large villa of soft and natural colours in the countryside near Bologna, various Atlas Concorde floor and wall-tiles collections were used. Tucked away in a marvellous natural landscape, the Parc Hotel Du Lac that looks out onto Lake Levico, offers guests a breath-taking view and a tremendous breadth of services.The structure is an intimate and welcoming oasis, created using a variety of different wood look porcelain tiles and stone look porcelain tiles by Atlas Concorde. The naturalness of the surfaces chosen for floors and walls merges with the clean harmony of the surrounding environment, for a unique effect of immense visual impact. The large restaurant area and the veranda are covered with Axi, wood look porcelain tiles with age-old effect, with an intense and natural character as well as excellent planning potential. The warm and bright Golden Oak colour, rich in veining, bestows the space a touch of refined, extremely natural luxury. Atlas Concorde collections have been used for the bathroom floors and the bathroom walls: for instance, the View collection, which creates a vibrant and engulfing atmosphere combining functionality and design. Some corridors and a lounge area are characterised by a dynamic multi-size installation created using the Copper colour of Trust, stone look porcelain tiles recalling natural quartzite and Luserna stone. Dynamic interior spaces created for flagship care homeIssue Quantum Care were launching their flagship care home, Mantles Court, and wanted an interior design that created a warm, welcoming and comfortable space. Quantum Care asked WHAT IF? Designs to create the interior spaces with a non-clinical feel, making the state of the art, 78-bed care facility feel like a home-from-home for residents. Approach WHAT IF? Designs looked at the flow of resident living spaces and the needs for each area. Communal spaces including lounges, dining and kitchen areas required floors that were easy to clean, looked fantastic and provided safety from slips. For the ensuite bathrooms, a softer, neutral coloured floor with slip resistance for both staff and residents was needed, while bedrooms called for a more homely, domestic feel, with comfort under foot as a priority. Solution Altro Wood was chosen for the dining room, bedrooms and the hair salon for its natural, homely, good looks. Altro Aquarius and Altro Pisces, with their wide colour palette and lifetime sustained slip resistance, were selected for the ensuite bathrooms, providing safety for shoe and barefoot users. And in the communal areas, Altro Ensemble was chosen for its flexibility and design choices as well as its noise reduction and comfort underfoot.

A newly built student accommodation block in Liverpool features an attractive, colourful external finish, thanks to Cembrit’s Cembonit cladding boards.Plato House is a purpose built student development comprising 86 spacious student rooms complete with a kitchen, en-suite bathrooms and high speed Wi-Fi throughout. Supplied via Vivalda of Manchester, Pemberton-based cladding contractor, Bak Cladding Solutions installed approximately 1000m2 of Cembonit cladding in a combination of Tufa, Pearl and Sand colours.

A private client secured planning permission for a 1.5 storey bungalow on their family’s land, in the village where their ancestors had lived for generations. Mac Eye Projects designed and constructed the two-bedroom, two-bathroom timber-frame property according to ambitious sustainability and energy efficiency goals, using SOPREMA’s ISOLAIR to ensure the necessary thermal and acoustic performance levels. This woodfibre board from the PAVATEX range was delivered in June 2020 and the external rendering of the Paddock’s walls was completed in October 2020.

Originally home to Pathé films and situated in the heart of London’s famous Soho district, The Pathé Building at109 Wardour Street is a newly refurbished developmentconsisting of 15 apartments. With exquisite interiors drawingon a classic British palette of textures, the apartments offer2-3 bedrooms with communal area and kitchen. With flatsretailing at the higher end of the market, it was imperativethat Allgood’s specification complemented the luxuryaesthetic of the apartments.Initial discussions revealed that the architect wanted tospecify the same finish throughout the entire building.This presented a challenge for Allgood as there wereseveral different types of doors and door colours:orange, white and grey. Allgood felt stainless steel,while a finish that would suit the décor, would not beappropriate for this type of residential building so abronze finish was agreed upon. The grey apartmentfront doors were supplied with bronze door closers,thumb turns, lever handles, hinges and flushbolts,whilst the bathroom doors were fitted with bronze pullhandles and thumbturns.The building also required signage to direct residentsand guests to various areas of the facility. However,the architect wanted to continue the bronze themeinto this so Allgood manufactured bespoke individualnumerals, letters and various symbols including abicycle in a bronze finish.Like with any central London residential building, spaceis an extremely valuable commodity. In order to maximisespace in the apartments, Allgood supplied bronze pocketdoor locking kits for all the bathrooms.

The new Winchester Sports and Leisure Park has succeeded in making a centre that is accessible for everyone. Through a collaboration with LA Architects and Pressalit, Winchester City Council installed not just one, but FIVE high specification Changing Places bathrooms in its recently opened state of the art sports and leisure complex.These Changing Places rooms will enable severely disabled people and their carers the chance to enjoy the new centre by providing safe and secure environments for changing and toileting before and after using the leisure centre facilities.

Invited to design a steam room for a traditional country farmhouse, with clean, modern convenience, Helo joined with specialist local building contractor, Leon Developments, to create a luxurious, practical Turkish bath for all the family to enjoy. Using subtle contours throughout to create a relaxing environment and ensure natural dispersal of condensation, the room was given a very open and airy feeling with the use of an extra wide safety glass door. This provides a view of the beautifully designed country bathroom from the comfort of full width mosaic tiled benches.

Opened in 2018, NoMad Los Angeles is the newest hotel from the renowned Sydell Group, and the second iteration of the chic NoMad New York. Designed by French architect and designer Jacques Garcia, guest rooms were inspired by the colour palette of the lobby’s original blue and gold Italianate ceiling.European-style bathrooms have Calacatta gold marble, walk-in showers with terrazzo floors and carefully chosen vintage details. In the first phase of their plans for Charlottehaven (or Charlotte Garden) – a 178-rental-apartment development on Strandboulevarden in Østerbro, Copenhagen – Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects exhibited great deftness in their treatment of both light and shadow, and texture and detail. So, it was natural that these interplays should continue into the project’s second phase: 37 furnished hotel apartments known as Charlottetårnet (or Charlotte Tower).A perfect example of these two interplays is seen in the hotel’s light-yet-warm bathrooms, which are characterised by creamy-hued floor-to-ceiling terrazzo surfaces punctuated by d line sanitary pieces in PVD Charcoal.

Bioethanol fires require no chimney or flue, give off no harmful emissions and are 95% energy efficient. They are available in a large selection of designs for living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and gardens. A good example is the home of Bury resident Anthony Norman, who chose an Italian kitchen and a British made bedroom from local dealer Icon, both featuring table-top bioethanol fires. Anthony and his family were convinced that they would make exciting additions to their new kitchen and master bedroom. Ebios bioethanol fires are made in Germany and distributed by DRU in the UK.

The conversion of a centuries-old house in Soglio presented an interesting challenge to the interior designer and the joiner. The end result is a residential house where the old building fabric and modern comforts complement one another perfectly. The interior designer and the joiner worked closely together to develop the interior. A sliding partition wall separates the bathroom from the bedroom. HAWA Junior 80 Z hardware makes sure it slides smoothly and quietly. Although sliding partition walls are rather atypical for the building type and its era, they are perfect for a house with confined spaces and slanting walls.

Award winning developer Hill required a seamless solution to accessing concealed bathroom services at The Scene, Walthamstow and their Park View development in Sidcup. Howe Green supplied the Tile-a-Door+ Wall Access Panels manufactured in a bespoke size to fit Hill’s specific tile grids. As well as being a place to showcase their bathroom products, it’s also used as a meeting place for architects and designers alike to come together to share and exchange knowledge and insights. The Roca Gallery, London, also hosts exhibitions and events around a variety of topics including architecture, design, and sustainability.Roca is a bathroom manufacturer and supplier that originally started out selling cast iron radiators in 1917. The first Roca Gallery was opened in 2009 in Barcelona and is what they call their ‘commitment to society’ providing a ‘brand experience’ like no other. Other galleries around the world include Madrid, Lisbon, Shanghai and Beijing – with each one individually designed to suit the cultural and historic surroundings.The Roca London Gallery was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and is full of rich history and innovative culture throughout it’s 1100m2 floor space. A prominent theme of the design is the movement of water with ripples on the façade and a sculpted interior. There’s over 200 unique concrete panels and 1209 bespoke porcelain floor tiles which meant that our access panels also needed to be bespoke to compliment this design.Our concealed frame doors, Arriva & Innova were essential to the design, in order to create a smooth, undisturbed flow throughout the space. The doors also feature bespoke designs, such as curved cut-outs in the doors for the handle, mirroring the curved design that can be seen across the project. The Via access panels were also required to be bespoke, with some needing to be abstract shapes, while others had to fit with the curvature of the wall.

Stocks Hall Nursing & Care Group have homes all over the UK, and they were opening a new one in Mawdesley, Lancashire. This home was designed specifically for people living with complex physical disabilities and plus size patients. Our designers worked closely with the owners to design a flexible, thorough hoist systems that would deliver for patients throughout the building, no matter how much their needs vary. We installed a total of 20 X-Y inset overhead hoist systems connecting private rooms to en-suites and assisted bathrooms. Take a closer look on our website!

M&E contractor ‘The All Group’ designed 2.5km RAYCHEM of HWAT-M self-regulating cables in a single pipe hot water system throughout the hotel. Controlled by RAYCHEM HWAT-ECO smart controllers, the system provided the benefits of energy efficiency plus savings in material costs, labour and space. Pipe freeze protection was delivered using 5.5 km of RAYCHEM WinterGard, controlled with RAYCHEM RAYSTAT-ECO-10. Underfloor heating was installed in the bedrooms, using RAYCHEM T2Red with T2Reflecta. In addition, RAYCHEM T2Quicknet 160 was installed in the en-suite bathrooms and the hotel’s luxurious spa.

This is a very exciting time for residents of South Shields as the first of its kind is being constructed - a million pound penthouse apartment spanning the entire top floor of the apartment block.Genesis products have been used throughout this project to create stunning finishes.Every bathroom in the executive apartment block features ESA100.94 to create stylish niches and tile edges. The brushed effect surface beautifully compliments the tiling around many of the baths.MHS100.35 movement joints and TDP100.91 have been used to create subtle transitions between doorways where discretion is key and a traditional transition strip is not requested.

F. Ball products have been used to install floorcoverings in a waterside residential development at Swansea Marina. Stopgap 1200 Pro high-performance levelling compound was used to create a smooth base ready for the receipt of floorcoverings. Contractors then used Styccobond F44 acrylic adhesive to install oak-effect Polyflor vinyl sheet in the kitchens and bathrooms, as well as to install purple Polyflor vinyl sheet floorcoverings in the building’s corridors, stairways and other communal areas. Styccobond F46 pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive was used to install Polyflor wood-effect vinyl planks in the living areas of each of the apartments.

What has been the true impact of 12 months of remote working on UK office staff? A recent YouGov poll by bathroom designer and manufacturer Geberit shows a workforce missing their colleagues and longing for a return to face-to-face meetings. With more than half of us missing the work-life balance that the office offers, its findings also reveal very little resistance from staff when faced with the prospect of a return to the office. Here, Sophie Weston, channel marketing manager at Geberit, reveals more about its insight and the impact of hygiene in the office moving forward – especially the washroom.

In an ambitious 12-month building project, the property was stripped to its ground-floor walls with a first-floor being completely reconstructed as a spectacular rectangular wooden box, with raw Accoya boards used for external cladding & fine sawn boards for internal decoration. Around 8 cubic metres of Accoya was used for both the external and internal cladding, supplied by Accoya distributor James Latham. Taking just over a year to complete, the renovation project has created a five-bedroom and four bathroom home for the Treasurers and their two children, delivered on a budget of less than £175,000.

Crown Trade products are providing the University of East London with a trusted route to transform student accommodation for the new academic year under a comprehensive redecoration programme. Crown Trade Steracryl Mould Inhibiting Matt Paint, Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt and Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Gloss are all being applied as part of the refurbishment of 57 dormitories and associated kitchen areas at the university’s Docklands Campus. Consisting of an individual bedroom and private bathroom, the dormitories - part of the Redbridge Student Accommodation - are in the transition from term time to summer school programmes.

Newton contractor Rymill Property Developments were approached by the owner of an old vineyard in Hampshire, in order to redevelop the site. As well as building an immaculate four-bedroom, four-bathroom Georgianhouse for the client, Rymill also took on the task of creating 3 brand new, modern properties, all with basements built into the existing sloping site. The large, partially retained basement areas would all house a stairwell, plantroom, storage room, cinema room, zen room, two ensuite double bedrooms and a garden room, and so required a completely dry internal environment.

Our client designed and built a spectacular contemporary new home. He decided to include a sauna to complement his level deck central bathtub in the master bathroom. The brief was to create a light modern cabin with clean low iron glazing to the main facia. The space allocated was wide but shallow and the challenge was to achieve a cabin which appeared spacious and comfortable for the two occupants to enjoy together. We chose a free standing, multi- climate heater around which carefully designed bespoke benching was constructed in smooth blond Aspen to match the deep horizontal wall boards.

Cembrit, leading cladding and building board specialist has launched Unipan, a versatile tile backing board which is ideally suited for internal ‘wet’ applications. Unipan is lightweight, tough, and stable, and offers a solid base for tiling through its excellent adhesion properties. The boards are manufactured from a material that is a mix of cement and aggregate, which also contains polystyrene beading to reduce the weight of the board allowing for easy on-site manoeuvrability and quick installation. Unipan features flat, reinforced tapered edges that are specifically designed for a good join, which is critical in wet applications such as bathrooms.
