The ProjectLoughborough College provides a range of courses in further education, along with apprenticeships and professional qualifications. It is based on one of the largest student campuses in Europe, sharing the area with Loughborough University. Over 2000 students attend the college, with some living in adjacent halls of residence.The college staircases needed to be refurbished. The flooring was previously terrazzo, and this was to be changed to a rubber flooring. This was suitable in terms of durability and slip resistance for the large amount of people on the campus. To complement the flooring, the stair nosings had to be equally hard-wearing and safe.The stair nosings needed to adhere to all Building Regulations guidelines, along with BS8300:2-2018 and the Equality Act. This meant that they needed to have great slip resistant properties, and stand out from the black flooring to create a ladder effect on the staircases. This would help people to navigate the stairways, especially those with visual impairments.There was a special request from the college which would help to attain this noticeable difference between the stair nosings and the steps: “Hot Rod Pink” tread material, to match Loughborough College colours.The ApproachMidlands Flooring was hired as the flooring contractor for the refurb. As Hot Rod Pink is not a standard stair nosing colour, Dave Wilson from Midlands Flooring got in touch with a number of manufacturers to see if anyone could rise to the challenge.Within 24 hours, Quantum Flooring returned its proposal for manufacturing bespoke Hot Rod Pink tread material specifically for Loughborough College. The unique stair nosing tread would be made from the same material as Quantum’s normal tread, meaning it would be slip resistant and suitable for the frequent foot traffic.Quantum’s SR125R stair nosings were chosen to fit the tread material into. These profiles have a ramped back, to ensure that there would be no trip hazard on the staircases. They are raked back on the riser, to ensure a perfect fit on the steps. Plus, Quantum’s UTA aluminium stair edging trims were fitted, providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing finish to the side of the steps on the open string stairs.The OutcomeQuantum ensured a fast turnaround on the stair nosings, using the QSMS free measuring service. A Quantum representative electronically measured all of the steps to their precise lengths, and sent the results to the distributor Carpet & Flooring in Birmingham for the stair nosings to be cut and drilled.Midlands Flooring fixed the stair nosings with Q-Fix contact adhesive, ensuring a strong bond to the steps. Secret-fix was used to drill the profiles, meaning the tread material could be fitted on site, and there was no need for unsightly plugs to hide the screws in the tread. Quantum’s SR125R stair nosings with Hot Rod Pink tread material look fantastic in Loughborough College. The Northern School of Art’s new Middlesborough campus is a development of regional importance, a major focal point for innovation and creativity in the Tees Valley.Located on a town centre site, the £14.5m iconic scheme comprises over 5,000m2 set over three floors, providing a range of studios for fine art, textiles, fashion, digital media, photography and 3D product design. Its concrete structure with exposed thermal mass, moderates the internal temperatures.Seven Architecture were responsible for the concept and master plan at the new school. Seven Director Simon Parker said, “To ensure a distinct and striking design for this gateway scheme we have introduced glazed terracotta panels to envelope the building which reference the long tradition of ceramics courses provided by the School. They also allow for glimpses into the building via long vertical windows which provide great levels of daylight within the art studios.“Once inside, internal finishes will provide the perfect backdrop for creativity; an exposed concrete frame and polished concrete flooring, coupled with splashes of colour throughout, will create a simple and robust yet flexible space for the students. The design strategy has been carefully established through extensive user consultation and the collaborative nature of this design has created a true flagship building.” Design, build and installation working hand-in-handBAM Construction were design lead and main contractor for the Project. The new Abraham Darby Academy was developed as part of Telford’s Building Schools for the Future scheme. It is a state-of-the-art teaching facility, designed for the 21st century, for pupils aged from 4 to 18, with a new primary school and leisure facility on the site. The Academy provides teaching space for 1,100 students, plus a sixth form facility, and the primary school can accommodate 400 pupils. The leisure centre includes a swimming pool, a four-court sports hall, fitness suite and changing facilities.

Bow School is a £30m campus in Tower Hamlets - an area with one of the fastest growing school populations in the country. Located close to the Blackwall Tunnel, the site suffered from air and noise pollution. It was also subject to a 20% budget cut at a late stage in the design phase. The new school campus accommodates 1,600 pupils in a state of the art building which includes rooftop sports pitches, a fitness studio, theatre, dining pavilion, open classrooms and areas of open circulation

This £7.88 million Student Accommodation project started in 2014 and is a Timber Frame construction specifically designed as a Student Accommodation Residential Development and Halls of Residence for Liverpool University.The specification for this project consisted of 231 studio apartments fitted with acoustic flooring. The project which is located close to the busy Lime Street Train Station in Liverpool City Centre, was extremely complex.The acoustic flooring of choice was a 23mm T&G profile dry screed pre bonded with 18mm wood fibre.

We worked firstly with The Manser Practice to develop a floor that was within budget and also Bryden Wood Architects on the specification and subfloors. Henry Construction are the main contractors and we are now working with them to ensure a successful fit out and wood floor installation. Situated in a location close to High Street, Stratford and Three Mills Island, Strand East will feature a variety of new homes and workspaces. Forming a triangle south of High Street, The Strand East will be a landmark development for an industrial heritage.

On the strength of the successful installation of a Stannah A2S down-escalator in the Slough branch of JD Sports, Stannah were once again approached to quote for their three-storey Liverpudlian store. As a result, two Stannah A2S escalators (one up, one down), an exclusive 8-person Maxilift MXL passenger lift and four 50kg Microlifts, for the transport of smaller merchandise between stock rooms and fitting floors, now provide all people- and goods-moving requirements within this thriving outlet.

Wakefield has had a sporting boost with the construction of its new Minsthorpe Leisure Centre which was opened February 2018, after the 14-month project was completed on schedule. Facilities at the centre include a 25m, six-lane swimming pool, a 60-station health and fitness club and a group exercise studio.The project cladding design underwent a value engineering programme and the originally specified product was changed to include our Trimapanel® smooth faced insulated panels for the external building envelope.

When it came to designing Tarkett’s new UK HQ in Ashford, sustainability and wellbeing had to be at the heart of the concept. London-based fit-out specialist Peldon Rose was brought in to assist. After consulting with the Tarkett team, Peldon Rose sought to create an inclusive office environment, catering for a wide range of different tasks and preferred working styles.

A new £13.5million sports and swimming complex in Blackburn town centre has been constructed to replace the ageing Waves Water Fun Centre. The joint project between Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackburn College will provide for students and residents swimming pools but also a larger fitness suite, a dance/ aerobics studio, sauna and steam room and two sports halls. The scheme, partly-based on Darwen Leisure Centre, will reduce the running costs of the existing Waves complex and reduce the subsidy.

Q-railing was asked by Bond Bryan Architects to provide specifications for a glass balustrade that would surround the escalator void on all 3 floors. The Q-railing architectural team was involved very early in the design process and could therefore provide tailored advice on which type of balustrade and fixing to use. The Easy Glass Slim glass balustrade contributes to the state-of-the-art appearance of the new building. This flagship showroom now is a natural fit with what VW wants to reflect: continuing growth and success.

The “44 Floors” in Rotterdam is the residential West Tower in the building complex “De Rotterdam”, completed at the end of 2013. The multi-functional building on the Wilhelmina Pier was designed by OMA, the office founded by Rem Koolhaas, as a vertical city offering a total floor space area of 160,000 m2 with offices, restaurants, a hotel and leisure facilities, in addition to the “44 Floors” apartments and parking spaces. Robert Bloomfield Academy is a middle school situated in Shefford, Bedfordshire that has approximately 800 pupils aged from 9 to 13 years old. Having recently had a Bauder roof installed, the school was keen to add a photovoltaic (PV) system to the building to meet their high sustainability aspirations. As a result of discussions with Bauder and funding specialist Evogreen, the school identified this as a perfect opportunity to have a no capital outlay PV solution fitted that would not compromise the existing 20 year roof guarantee.

The high quality, high security aluminium entrance door from Smart Designer Door Range was being fitted to a property in Cornwall and needed a Pull Handle which was strong enough to operate the door as well as able to withstand the corrosive environment next to the coast.Our BLU HAB2 Inline Round 'T' Bar Pull Handle was perfect for the application, featuring a 1.5mm stainless steel wall thickness and high tensile strength meant it could open and close this heavy door with ease.

With architectural design being one of the Design Museum’s core exhibition focuses, the building couldn’t have been anything less than remarkable. The Grade II listed property now exudes sophistication with an extraordinary atrium at the centre of the building. Working with both John Pawson architects and the contractor Willmott Dixon, Dolphin advised on the most fitting washroom design for the renovated building. The new Leeds Beckett state-of-the-art Carnegie School of Sport gets the full DYNAMIK treatment. It is now the home of a Mondo 60m indoor running track. It also now has new DYNAMIK Sport flooring systems for gym & fitness zones, providing acoustic and impact high performance solutions. The teaching and research building will be a base for the Carnegie School of Sport providing research programmes and a centre of excellence for athletes wanting the best in high performance sports surfaces and associated facilities.

Rising into the clouds at the top of Mount Snowdon, Wales, the summit centre required a short travel lift in a tight alcove for less able visitors – to replace an old, unreliable lift. Transporting the lift to the top of the mountain on the Snowdon Railway was part of the challenge, with weight and size restrictions. The Gartec 7000 platform lift fit the bill, with a 410kg limit and wheelchair sizes without a huge footprint. The modular parts were ideal for transport to the top and the small 50mm pit and minimal building works were ideal.

Busy retail store, H&M, needed to provide customer access to the upper mezzanine floor. With floor level fixing points and 2 day out-of-hours installation, a Gartec 9000 cabin lift was installed. The cabin lift looks and feels exactly like a conventional lift, but with half the cost, no building works and simple retrofitting it fitted the bill perfectly for the retail environment. Emily, the store administrator, commented "this lift does the job perfectly and provides a familiar environment for our customers".

Since its official opening back in May 2016, the Blavatnik School of Government building has become one of the most vibrant departments of the University of Oxford. HRH The Duke of Cambridge himself attended the official opening, marking the significance of this new and innovative structure. Longleat Safari Park was looking to create a new restaurant to reflect its spectacular 9000-acre surroundings and withstand the demands of a popular tourist destination. Neaco supplied a bespoke specification combining a railed Juliet balcony design with its contemporary glass balustrade to meet the aesthetic requirements of The Pembroke, a prestigious development of luxury apartments in Sevenoaks, Kent. Designed by BHD Architects, the project formed part of an extensive redevelopment of a site at the junction with London Road and Pembroke Road, and included the construction of a new apartment complex comprising 22 properties with parking at basement level. The scheme was designed to fit into the established pattern of development of the surrounding area, in terms of scale and appearance.

The National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, is a hospital rehabilitation treatment for patients who have a physical or cognitive disability due to illness or injury. The new 17,000msq development at the hospital included a fit for purpose ward accommodation block comprising 120 single ensuite isolation rooms with integrated therapy spaces, a new sports hall, hydrotherapy unit, links to the existing building which will ensure full integration between the new development and the existing hospital on the site, and significant campus infrastructure upgrades.
