an M-Tray® Green Roof reaching the parts other green roofs cannot reach

an M-Tray® Green Roof reaching the parts other green roofs cannot reach

Wallbarn Ltd

This project had incredibly restricted access, where the client wanted a green roof on an existing bitumen rooftop overlooked by hotel rooms. The M-Trays® had to be transported on a trolley through the hotel kitchens. They were winched onto the roof itself using a genie lift and slotted into position in a matter of hours. Trying to construct a roll-out green roof was impossible, given the restricted access. Installation was fast and effective, taking only a day and giving an instant green roof. M-Tray® dramatically improved the view from the rooms and improved the guests’ experience.

Underhill House - Englands first Passivhaus

Ravago Building Solutions

Underhill House, a strikingly-modern earth-sheltered home, was the first house in England to achieve certified Passivhaus status - widely regarded as the world's leading standard in energy efficient construction. Underhill House was developed underneath and adjacent to a derelict 300-year old barn. Sensitive restoration of the existing barn and innovative design ensured the project has minimal visual and environmental impact. Not only was the external form of Underhill House designed to minimise visual impact on the surrounding landscape, the interior finish and construction materials were carefully chosen to make the building as environmentally sustainable as realistically possible.

Zero Carbon sheet materials

Zero Carbon sheet materials

Pendock

The latest sustainable materials to be added to our range are BioCarbon® zero carbon laminates. These are the first carbon neutral materials of this type to be available in the UK.In addition to having all the durability and decorative characteristics of standard HPL materials, BioCarbon also provides both anti-bacterial and anti-microbial protection, as well as being zero carbon. This combination of features makes it ideal for our Pendock Washroom range of cubicles and is also used within our Pendock Linea building linings products as a durable finishing solution.BioCarbon is manufactured using renewable and sustainable energy sources together with a range of initiatives to offset production processes making it carbon neutral. Manufactured in Colombia, where almost 70% of all energy generated is from hydro-electric, this is what powers, the manufacturing plant.Beyond this, the material used to create the HPL and CL laminates, which is primarily paper, is harvested from sustainable sources and is offset by BioCarbon with its own 200 hectare re-forestation programme that helps absorb 400 tonnes of carbon dioxide, annually. The programme is monitored and audited by PwC.Storage, handling and distribution impacts are also factored into the calculations, which results in a range of products, where the entire process from manufacturing to fabricator is carbon neutral.

Georgian Fireplace Renovation

Georgian Fireplace Renovation

Kompozit'All UK

application area: heritageuse type: wood fireplace in country mansionproject scope: restore georgian fireplaces, keep large fireplace openingadded value: non-destructive solution, ideal for heritage buildings BackgroundThe 18th Century Georgian Country House is a Grade 1 listed building and also English Heritage. The owners of the Derbyshire home wanted to use the original antique fireplaces with the existing large openings. The pargetting in the chimneys had fallen away and the mortar joints were leaking into different parts of the building. Lining with stainless steel liners was not feasible here as it would have compromised the cross sectional area of the chimney and the fireplace opening would have had to be closed down considerably.Due to the protected status of the building extra caution had to be exercised to minimise the effects of the works carried out to the interior of the building.Statement of workThe installation was quick and it did not impact the structure of the building. 4x Furanflex RWV liners were installed, each was finished within a day’s work, making it possible to use the period fireplaces once again. The most important requirement was to keep the current chimney sizes the same. This was made possible by FuranFlex25, which was inflated inside the chimney flue to expand into the available space, maximising the lined flue size.

Blackhorse Lane

Blackhorse Lane

Langley Waterproofing Systems Ltd

The purpose:Taylor Wimpey’s Eclipse development was the final phase of the large-scale modernisation and renewal strategy for the London Borough of Walthamstow Forest, known as The Blackhorse Lane Action Plan. Eclipse would offer affordable social and private housing via 500 homes in two six-storey apartment blocks. To help satisfy one of the Plan’s objectives- “to ensure new developments incorporate the highest levels of sustainable design and their impact on climate change is minimised”- we installed green roofs on both blocks. As it was the final development phase, space was limited; time was also an influencing factor in facilitating the tight build programme, avoiding delays, and enabling the client to deliver much-needed new homes. Our solutionTo enable fulfilment of the brief, we recommended our HM-40 Paratech Hot Melt Roofing System as the inverted waterproofing base for the green roof. A fully-bonded system, HM-40 is a robust, durable, and highly flexible monolithic, self-healing hot-melt waterproofing system for protected roofs, green roofs, terraces, and podium decks with a 40-year durability statement. In addition, it is firerated for unrestricted use when covered with a green or ballast roof.Unlike other hot melt systems that use fleeces, the Paratech system incorporates a reinforcement mesh: this allows the system to be rolled out, making waterproofing installation faster, thereby enabling the contractor to lay the top roofing layer of artificial grass and landscaped green roofs. Unfortunately, an on-site compound to store the roofing components was unavailable. We worked closely with T&T Roofing and Taylor Wimpey to ensure deliveries arrived in build sequence for immediate use, but without adversely impacting residents who had already moved into their newhomes.“The features of the flat roof system provided a seamless, issue-free roof installation, with rapid installation time causing minimal disruption. Langley’s technical team was always on hand to provide assistance when necessary, working collaboratively to guarantee a consistent and highquality installation.”

Harwood Church

Forbo Flooring Systems

Merging two former churches in the Bolton area, the development of Harwood Methodist Church has delivered something special for the Church and the wider community. The challenge for the team at Ellis Williams Architects was to design spaces with a practical function but also ensuring that there is a link to tradition. Thanks to its exceptional performance in heavy traffic environments, Tessera Alignment carpet tiles in the Climate colourway was installed in the main worship area – which can hold up to 250 people. As the space also enables the latest AV technology and sound system to support the growing use of band music during regular worship, it is ideal that the carpet tiles can reduce up to 23 dB impact sound.A café space links directly into the worship area with a well-appointed community kitchen serving this and a large community hall. A range of safety flooring from the STEP range provided the ideal solution for these areas, where the Classic Oak effect provided a sophisticated finish in the café and Safestep R11 – for high-risk slip protection – was used in the kitchen. In addition, Surestep Original in Elephant offered a fresh alternative and improved cleaner aesthetic for the bathrooms. Finally, in the multi-use community hall, lobby, circulation spaces and flexible conference rooms, the subtle yet striking marble effect of Marmoleum Real in Slate Grey delivers a beautiful neutral backdrop for a range of functions and events.

Pyroguard UK Ltd

The ChallengeLocated in the city of Nancy, the Centre Prouvé offers a flexible conference space complete with a 3000 m² exhibition hall, two auditoriums, thirteen meeting rooms and a panoramic reception area. With glass playing an integral role in the building design, the architect required a proven smoke control solution that would not distort the aesthetics of the development while adhering to safety regulations. Additionally, due to the high footfall of visitors, the chosen solution would have to be maintenance-free.As a leading fire-glass specialist, Pyroguard was approached by the architect Marc Barani of Atelier Barani to offer a suitable solution. The SolutionTo meet these requirements Pyroguard recommended Smokeguard – a permanent, maintenance-free glazing solution that acts as a smoke barrier, keeping low-level toxic fumes at bay for up to half an hour to give visitors maximum time to exit the building safely. Thanks to its perfect transparency, Smokeguard also met the aesthetic requirements with the 8 mm thick tempered monolithic glass offering 87 percent light transmission, to provide the perfect transparent protective barrier with minimal visual impact. As a result, over 100 m² of Smokeguard was installed in the atrium, escalators, and lift areas utilising its patented fastening system to mount the system to the ceiling areas.Click here for further information on Smokeguard or for further advice and support please contact us.

Energy neutral with pv installation and hot water panels..

RENOLIT UK Ltd

Low environmental impact... CHALLENGE All over the world architects and building owners are trying to create buildings with a low environmental impact. For this private house, the architect wanted to combine an aesthetical finish of a metal roof in combination with PV and hot water panels. The biggest issue for the architect was the fixing of these panels without having leak problems in the future. SOLUTION The roof was waterproofed using a RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing membrane that is mechanically fastened onto the supporting roof structure. Two kinds of PVC profiles were heat welded onto the waterproofing membrane: on the one hand RENOLIT ALKORDESIGN profiles (for aesthetical value only), on the other hand there are RENOLIT ALKORSOLAR profiles, which function as the base to attach the hot water and the PV panels. The gable was also finished with the RENOLIT ALKORDESIGN system.

Green Roof at Seaford Head Golf Club

Green Roof at Seaford Head Golf Club

Danosa UK Ltd

When developing new buildings, it is always important to consider the environmental impact. Responsible sourcing of materials is high on every priority list, along with reducing waste to landfill. But what about the local impact, such as the effects on local wildlife? A living roof/green roof system, such as the one installed by the Premier Contractor at Seaford Head Golf Club, is a very clear example of the steps that can be taken towards reducing this impact and providing an alternative space for wildlife to inhabit. A warm roof system was installed onto a structural plywood deck, after which a vapour barrier and insulation boards were mechanically fastened to provide both thermal efficiency and air leakage control. After the underlying installation had been suitably restrained in accordance with a site-specific wind uplift calculation, the roof membrane was mechanically fastened to complete the waterproofing system. Our PVC roof membranes have been tested and can be utilised without the need for additional root prevention barriers (test standard EN 13948), and because PVC is extremely lightweight, they are the perfect choice for these applications, reducing pressure on the underlying structure. In conjunction with our Living Roof/Green Roof specialists, a site-specific living roof system was supplied and installed over the completed waterproofing.Waterproofing System:DANOSA Single Ply 1.5mm - AnthraciteConstruction Type:New BuildWarm RoofSector:LeisureApprox. This problem is compounded by modern tastes having moved away from carpets throughout the living space. Finally, the tight urban site demanded that all trades work together to an equally tight schedule of works.Soundis supplied over 2,850m2 of Acoustic Matting and Underlays. Ghelamco Arena CHALLENGE Ghent’s football club, KAA Gent, had big ambitions – having a big stadium was one of them. Its brand new home was built in order to seat more spectators and take the club to the top of the Belgian league. As the first newly-built stadium in Belgium since 1974, the multi-use Ghelamco Arena opened its doors in 2013. The stadium hosts - besides KAA Gent matches - a multitude of events throughout the year, as well a gym, supermarket, office facilities and a Guide Michelin restaurant. It’s located near the historical centre of Ghent, just outside the city. The arena, which seats 20,000 supporters, is one of Europe’s most modern stadiums. A stadium specifically designed for the ultimate football experience! How could RENOLIT help make the new stadium a success?SOLUTION The Ghelamco Arena is a real eye-catcher: impressive, fashionable in design and an architectural beauty. The stadium, however, is more than just design, it is above all environmentally friendly. The stadium was constructed with considerations towards its ecological footprint and as a result, the roof was made waterproof by means of the ecological, reflective RENOLIT ALKORBRIGHT waterproofing membrane. This completely white roofing membrane, together with the special protective coating on top of the membrane ensures a high reflection of the sunlight, which in summertime has a positive impact on the climate inside the building. With an initial reflection of 90%, the RENOLIT ALKORBRIGHT concept can consider itself to be at the absolute top of the “cool roof” roofing membranes.
