Rockfon brings the Wow and the Ssh to Sheffield Hallam Adsetts Library Rockfon welcomed the challenge of collaborating to conceive a ground-breaking acoustic ceiling installation that not only looks great but controls sound beautifully, helping create the perfect environment for students to read and study in. Sheffield Hallam University appointed an alliance team to undertake their larger scale construction works over for the next six years, in partnership with BDP Architects, BAM Construction and CBRE Facilities Management. Adsetts Library – a vital resource and haven The library provides an impressive, balconied, multi-storey focal point for students and staff, to educate, learn, read and study in a variety of open plan and more formal spaces. Traditionally the library also provides a haven where a certain hush can be relied on by its thousands of users – something Rockfon understands the mechanics and science of more than most. BAM invited installation specialists Brebur to find a solution to the university’s needs at the library. In turn, they, approached Rockfon in order to explore options and generate plans to design and install a replacement, taking in to consideration site access and the library’s vast height, inclines and span, alongside the need to retain services for students and staff. Brainstorming a bespoke solution Brebur Commecial Director, Tommy Burke, talked about the project, “Working with the Hallam alliance team, BAM construction and our supply chain partners, Rockfon, we looked for the structural and aesthetic solution that would best fulfil the acoustic requirements. Brainstorming sessions resulted in a unique specification that would ‘tick all the boxes’ whist also improving the efficiency and performance of the building.” Rockfon Technical Manager, Tim Spencer, recalls the development and specification process, “Initially we looked at options for traditional wire-suspended ceiling islands, but these were quickly discounted due to the available space for fixing and the varying pitch of the structure. Fortunately, Rockfon had developed an innovative new direct fixing system for its Rockfon Eclipse® Islands, for use in situations of restricted height. Even so, installing islands at pitches of 45 and 60 degrees was new territory. Thoughts then turned to designing a system of grid steelwork to successfully fix the islands, which would handle the loads over a 3m span, whilst also subsequently accommodating lighting specified by the client. The answer proved to be our Chicago MetallicTM 55mm structural ‘I’ profiles positioned at 600mm centres, fixed with a unique combination of U-bolts and bracketry.” Due to the library ordinarily being open 24/7, the first national lockdown in early 2020, offered an opportunity to carry out the necessary works while the space was being less utilised. Following complete removal of the existing panels and substrate, work began to install the Rockfon scheme. The perfect fit for a unique space Around 400 1170mm x 1160mm Eclipse islands were installed throughout the library’s vast, multi-faceted space, which is four storeys high at its apex. Clear glazed roof sections to one side allow natural light to flood in and reflect against the smooth, deep-matt, super white surface of the Eclipse islands which provide high light reflection and light diffusion. Eclipse islands can be specified in a variety of shaped formats with bespoke colour matching options. They provide superior sound absorption and reduce reverberation – allowing design freedom without compromising on performance. All Rockfon ranges are made from non-hygroscopic, non-combustible, stone wool, which is impervious to most environmental pressures, embodying very high humidity resistance, up to 100% RH. Their anti-static surfaces repel dirt while providing no sustenance to harmful micro-organisms such as mould and fungi, playing an important role in limiting the spread of bacteria. Over six years ago, law firm Kingsley Napley considered consolidating its three Clerkenwell offices into a single building. Before committing to do so, the firm first embarked on a programme of partial refurbishments and pilot testing in its existing offices to examine how a transformation from cellular to open plan working might suit their business and its more than 400 employees. Once the decision was made to move, Kingsley Napley collaborated with design specialists KKS Savills and Overbury fit out and refurbishment, along with BPC interiors as sub-contractor, to create an environment which would help enable the company to flourish and meet its aspirations for recruitment, retention and growth. Fast-forward to 2021 and the firm occupies six floors at Twenty Bonhill, Shoreditch.Delivering a best in class workplace Kingsley Napley CFOO Darren Jesse spoke about the project, “I am delighted we have delivered this project, pretty much on time and on budget, despite the challenging circumstances of the last year or so. We had an incredible team working on this internally, and our external advisers… provided superb support for which we are grateful. Together I believe we have delivered a first rate, best in class workplace for Kingsley Napley that will support the firm in its next chapter.” The new space has been designed with collaboration and activity-based working in mind by allowing lawyers and other team members to choose workspaces according to their needs. The guiding aesthetic throughout the six floors is one of hushed self-assuredness with a hint of opulence characterised by classic contemporary furnishings in muted tones, modern art and the use of deep blue and orange on feature walls. In the reception, elegant slim lighting is fixed at a distance from the high ceilings in converging angles while a fully glazed wall lets diffused natural light stream in. The move coincided with a new brand identity incorporating the phrase, ‘when it matters most’ into its communications – words which underpin the role often played by the company in the lives of its clients and informing the values it wants to portray in everything it does.Creating that Wow with added HushBPC Interiors Senior Construction Manager, Stuart Dowling, “We managed the project and instructed Pacy & Wheatley to install Rockfon® Mono® Acoustic throughout the large double-height reception. The Installation went very well and an impressive smooth finish was achieved that even with sunlight or interior lighting shining on it did not show any of the services behind, which can be the case with plasterboard.”Installation specialist Pacy & Wheatley Director Craig Wheatley, “This was a prestigious and exacting project where creating a space to project the perfect first impression was vital. Rockfon Mono Acoustic is unique as it combines the elegance of a monolithic ceiling with performance characteristics and sound absorption thought only possible with modular ceilings. The ceiling tile substrate is installed and then finished with a specialist acoustic render to create a seamless surface.” Beauty and performanceThe system allows for easy incorporation of lighting, audio and other mechanical systems whilst delivering Class A2 fire protection. We are so pleased to have discovered this beautiful, fabulous product!”Fully recyclable, all our ranges are made from a core of naturally occurring, non-hygroscopic and non-combustible stone wool. Their surfaces provide no sustenance to harmful micro-organisms, embody high humidity resistance and are impervious to most environmental pressures – ensuring that perfect first impression will last.  

Here at Helmsman, we have manufactured and installed two-compartment bespoke laminate lockers multiple times, and this was our third time working alongside Bombardier Services UK. The specification of the lockers was 1900mm high, 300mm wide, and 450mm deep. The bespoke laminate lockers were completed with end panels and sloping tops which is an excellent choice that reduces dust collection.The body of the laminate lockers was in our standard shade of ‘Ice’. The doors were in the shade of ‘Primeval Oak’ by Greenlam to match the light aesthetics of the room as well as to match the lockers that were manufactured and installed by Helmsman in 2022. The Laminate lockers were decorated with oval laminated number plates above the Camlocks. The Camlocks are a great choice in accessories, they assure the users that their personal belongings are safe and secure.

This jaw dropping project featured Lazenby Light Natural polished concrete floors and cast in situ stairs. The concrete flows from the entrance hallways throughout the ground floor and up the feature staircase to the first floor landing.This 4 week phased project saw the polished concrete floor installed first. The formwork and reinforcement for the staircase was then fixed and built off the floor. Once the stairs had been cast the brass balustrades and handrails were retrofitted to the concrete.This self-supporting concrete architectural feature staircase involved discussions with external engineers who then designed the reinforcement. The complex angles, joins to other structural elements and the sleek elegance was meticulously planned and executed. Many years ago, on a site in Misterbianco, Catania, where the ancient, very active during the first two decades of the twentieth century, Monaco furnace used to stand, there now stands a modern multi-purpose centre created to bring a moment in time back to local residents.Designed by the Mimesi 62 studio of Florence, the new building offers large spaces lit up by light that passes through large glass windows and enhanced by the use of porcelain stoneware surfaces that are all different but that all match and perfectly harmonise with the destination of use: the 5,000 m² of the outdoor areas have been clad with the Plan collection, with a natural effect, in Black 30x60, while the discreet elegance of Format Black 45x45 has been used indoors.Photographs by Alfio Scigliano.

The Newcastle Metrocentre is the largest shopping centre in the European Union containing over 330 stores occupying 194,000 m2.During 2008 and 2009 part of the centre was redeveloped. A.J Wells & Sons were asked to produce a series of vitreous enamelled cylindrical pillars. Enamel was specified due to its longevity, resistance to abrasion and hygienic properties.A.J Wells rolled and fabricated the columns to extreme levels – rarely achieved in enamel cladding. The Opera 35 project is a boutique hotel developed as an existing building extension. Its location offers extended views over the garden and courtyard, reason why solar control solutions were required.The large windows provide plenty of natural light. Indoor curtains provide a textured effect, but do not provide the privacy that guests need.Our Arion motorized roller blinds have been chosen to protect the building's exterior. Their 5 meters high position gives dynamism to the façade without changing its style and elegance, at the same time that they guarantee an optimal solar control.The blinds have a Polyscreen® 351 fabric that offers a 10% openness factor. The Pebbles color has been chosen to match the project tones and provide an optimal optical factor.

We were delighted that she chose Clement to manufacture and install the new steel doors she required for her beautiful new home in Brighton.Mary now lives in a wonderful Regency Town House. The kitchen is located on the lower ground floor which is where the two new doors have been installed. They bring in lots of natural light and open out into the charming walled garden.Mary commented: “I love my new steel doors which make the room much lighter and warmer and encourage the indoor-outdoor link to the garden. 71 Nyhavn is a luxury hotel housed within two historic buildings built in the early 1800s in Copenhagen, Denmark. Known as The Red Warehouse and The Yellow Warehouse respectively, both the buildings are protected due to their historical significance. Over the last two years, The Red Warehouse has undergone a major refurbishment.Clement tile profile Conservation Rooflights were chosen for their good looks and flush finish to retain the character and charm of the building. The client chose a bespoke rooflight, opting for top hung instead of side hung opening escape rooflights. Not only do these rooflights allow masses of natural light to flood through the hotel rooms, but they also serve as an escape route, being fitted with gas springs for emergency use.This project was managed by our supplier in Denmark – Saxo Solutions.

The recently refurbished reception of 25 Copthall Avenue by QOB Interiors and John Robertson Architects for developer Helix, includes new floor to ceiling glass, contemporary signage, virtual daylight luminaries and a stunning 120m2 curved Armourcoat 'KonCrete' polished plaster wall to create a striking entrance.The hand-applied polished plaster wall leads through into the transformed reception area, with a design feature that incorporates a custom stencil of the office address. The full height atrium floods light into the heart of the building creating a bright, spacious environment with a business lounge and in-house café.Armourcoat ‘KonCrete’ is an urban range of polished plaster colours and finishes designed for contemporary projects. VELUX Glazing Panels bring daylight to an 18th century Cornish jail to support the transformation into a luxury hotelAll that was left of the powerful-looking Victorian Bodmin Jail in Cornwall, was a ruin without a roof, with vegetation slowly taking over. In 2015, Mallino Development appointed the services of Twelve Architects to undertake an impressive redevelopment project of the jail and turn it into a modern and aesthetically quite different hotel. To deliver the modern comforts hotel guests expect during their stay and the thermal efficiency required for sustainable operation of the hotel, a holistic system using VELUX Glazing Panels was designed. It took 214 VELUX Glazing Panels, formerly known as Vitral A98 Glazing, to recapture the original roof lighting sitting above the two historic wings.For more information, read the full case study

The Sigmund Freud Lecture Theatre at the institute of Psychoanalysis in Maida Vale was being refurbished. It was clear the upgrade should include acoustic correction. The reverb in the main lecture theatre was high and many lecturers and attendees had commented on how bad the acoustics were. As they were now going to use the room for recording and remote learning it was crucially important to get the acoustics issue remedied.The lecture theatre was in a historically important building and the IoP wanted to keep the ceiling exposed.TK-Team conducted a site visit and proposed circular ceiling hung 800mm baffles to cover 50% of the space. Baffles were equally spaced and kept above the lighting level so as not to create and shadows.Every body was happy with the outcome, corrected acoustics and the original detail of the ceiling was seen in all it`s glory.

Architect: Guy Hollaway Architects Main Contractor: Buxton Building Contractors Installer: Colorminium Stone: Jura Beige Guy Hollaway Architects designed the competition-winning scheme for the new concert hall at Benenden School near Cranbrook in Kent. The project, completed in 2021, delivered a new combined concert hall; school hall and music department. The new school hall has a capacity of 750. The Concert Hall includes a 150 seat recital hall and digital media suites. This development, the largest in the school’s history, achieves the combination of brick and natural stone, in the form of Aztec Rainscreen with stunning success. The honed Jura Limestone angled soffits give the windows a superiority as well as realising more light into the building. Areas of the large panel 1200x450mm rainscreen achieve a modern look on this prestigious development.

Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the new landmark Antwerp Port House comprises of a new highly architectural four-storey extension positioned above a restored former fire station. Providing 12,800m2 of office space, the project has given the Port Authority a single headquarters building for the first time.ComFlor® was the preferred flooring option out of five put forward, based on its light weight and cost. The system also provides the required strength, could achieve the required load and span requirements and offered a fast build time.5,000m2 of ComFlor® 80 in 0.90mm gauge, as well as a quantity of ComFlor® 60 in a 1.20mm gauge for the sloped stairs, was used to deliver the flooring solution, all supplied by Dutch Engineering.

This luxury home was designed to have fully concealed blinds in every window. The owners were enthusiastic to design a home that was the best to the last detail. Blinds and curtains are controlled using Lutron® and were installed using the Blindspace® concealment products. Bespoke electric curtains were included to provide softness and the fully concealed blinds were used to control the light and privacy. Through careful planning from the outset of the project, the inclusion of concealed blinds has achieved the best end result. Dark-coloured fabrics have been used where maximum visibility was desired but softer white-toned used in bath and dressing rooms. Bedrooms and media room have been supplied using dark-coloured blackout material to make a statement when used.

Designed using sustainably sourced timbers, the floating pavilion gives diners at Hawksmoor a place to eat and drink outdoors, while creating a distinctive new social space that connects people closely to the water. Furnitubes were commissioned by Glenn Howells Architects to provide landscaping features to the floating pavilions.Nine bespoke timber loungers made from our triple-processed steel with sustainable cumara timbers that were designed and placed horizontally to match the pavilion decking, making for a striking contrast. The pavilion seating is completed by several bespoke high beam benches with underseat lighting. Other features included steel housing to the life buoys and planters with coordinating timber cladding.The pavilion not only creates a welcoming and luxurious space, but also a popular photo backdrop particularly during the summer months.

The Progressive Players were founded in 1920. In 1939, founding members Ruth, Sylvia and Hope Dodds generously provided the money to purchase a vacant site facing Saltwell Park, together with adjoining No.3 Saltwell View, and build the Players’ own theatre.The Little Theatre is believed to be the only playhouse built in Britain during World War II and to this day it remains Gatehead’s only theatre. It opened with a performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in October 1943 and since then the site has remained home to the Progressive Players who now produce ten plays a year.Closed during the pandemic, funding was completed on an extension, creating a new rehearsal room above the auditorium known as ‘The Studio’. This facility has exactly the same dimensions as the main auditorium stage meaning the transfer from rehearsals to final production is much smoother than was previously possible.The new space is acoustically isolated from the auditorium and stage allowing rehearsals to proceed even during a performance and was designed to be in keeping with the look and feel of the original theatre. Fitted with modern lighting and sound systems, the rehearsal room has the latest connectivity and networking capabilities. New steel windows were required to replace the originals at the theatre. Clement W20 steel frames were chosen, polyester painted in Jet Black (matt). The two modular bay windows at the front of the building are particularly striking and the choice of glass was important.  SunGuard SuperNeutral 62/34 was chosen for the outer pane, offering very high natural light transmission while ensuring energy savings through solar protection and thermal insulation, krypton gas was used for the centre of the pane and 4mm of toughened Planibel Grey was used for the inner pane. The newly refurbished Little Theatre will not only be used for the Progressive Players' rehearsals, visiting hires and local community groups, but it is also hoped that it will eventually accommodate a youth theatre group.Photography taken and provided by Robbie Carruthers, Chairman, Little Theatre.  

Created as part of the wider regeneration of the former industrial area of Ouseburn Valley, Lower Steenberg’s Yard is a four-storey development comprising ground floor commercial office space and 28 residential apartments on the floors above. Benefiting from stunning riverside views of the Ouseburn, a small tributary of the River Tyne, the scheme has been designed by Xsite Architecture and constructed by Esh Construction for developers PfP igloo.The architectural style of Lower Steenberg’s Yard has been informed by both the neighbouring Victorian-era industrial buildings and Scandinavian design elements, with the latter inspired by Mr Richard Steenberg, the Danish industrialist who established a number of businesses in the area throughout the 1850s. As a result, clean lines and the extensive use of natural light are key features of the scheme. This has been achieved to great effect using Senior’s slimline aluminium fenestration systems which have been fabricated and installed by Crown Doors and Shutters.Each of the apartments feature Senior’s low U-value PURe® aluminium windows, specified as triple-glazed tilt and turn style units to provide safe and secure ventilation and ease of maintenance. Senior’s thermally-efficient PURe® SLIDE and PURe® FOLD patio doors have also been installed to provide access to private terraces which overlook the river. As well as helping to maximise the use of natural light, Senior’s fully Part L compliant PURe® aluminium windows and doors will also help improve energy efficiency, reduce fuel costs and contribute to lowering the overall carbon footprint of the building.The ground floor retail units also benefit from Senior’s PURe® casement aluminium windows, with further daylighting achieved through the use of Senior’s slim profile SF52 aluminium curtain wall system to the main entrances. Senior’s robust SPW501 commercial doors have also been installed to provide safe and secure access.

1300m2LSA Projects Ltd are delighted to share with you a new award winning Oranit installation at Kingsgate Primary School in London.The £18 million, 5000m2 school has created over 420 new primary school places at the purpose built facility which is comprised of two connected two storey teaching blocks with generous picture windows throughout for an abundance of natural light.The site also has ample external space including running tracks, a science garden, and covered playing spaces in addition to being part of a community development project linking the site to a neighbouring park developed from unused green space in the area.The saw-toothed roof and external appearance of school was designed to reflect its industrial past and the cool tone light brickwork and generous windows bring the design up-to-date with current trends and the requirements of a modern building.Inside the school there is a consistent airy and neutral palette with white walls and ceiling interspersed with pale wood feature walls and stairways in addition to the white washed Nordic Pine Shiluvit panels.Oranit Shiluvit panels were chosen in part for the ceilings of the spaces due to their impressive acoustic power; the configuration chosen which included LSA Black High Density Acoustic mineral wool achieves an overall rating of Class A for acoustic absorption making it perfect for ensuring minimal reverberation across the spaces helping to keep a calm atmosphere.Nordic Pine timber was chosen for its depth of texture as well as its PEFC Certification, the timber was then white washed for a clean and bright appearance.

Elevating Office Excellence at Cannon Bridge House.Cannon Bridge House, a landmark office development, underwent a transformative refurbishment led by the architectural firm Stiff + Trevillion. Nestled on Dowgate Hill, the project aimed to revitalize the iconic structure, incorporating modern elements and upgrading its facilities. As part of this endeavor, Selo Doors played a crucial role in supplying concealed metal doorsets, specifically focusing on riser doors with fire-rated capabilities.Stiff + Trevillion embarked on a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment, breathing new life into Cannon Bridge House, now aptly named The River Building. The overhaul addressed structural upgrades, redesigned entrances, and enhanced the glass link between the atrium and the River Building. The yellow brick exterior underwent a modern transformation, creating a visually striking contrast with the contemporary interior.The revitalized Cannon Bridge House boasts a central atrium that spans two floors, crowned by an arched, glazed roof to invite abundant natural light. The convergence of diagonal glazing panels offers breathtaking views of the Thames River, adding a unique and stimulating dimension to the office space. The blend of modern aesthetics with original architectural elements, such as exposed brickwork and steel, contributes to the building’s allure.Selo Doors’ contribution to the project centered on providing concealed metal riser doors. These fire-rated doorsets seamlessly integrated into the renovated space, aligning with the vision of creating a modern, light-filled environment. The concealed design ensures a flush and streamlined appearance, contributing to the overall aesthetic harmony of the interior.The collaborative efforts of Stiff + Trevillion and Selo Doors have not only revitalized the physical space but have also created a vibrant and dynamic work environment that pays homage to the building’s history while embracing modern functionality. The concealed metal riser doors supplied by Selo Doors seamlessly contribute to the building’s aesthetic appeal and fire safety features, underscoring the commitment to excellence in design and functionality.

Doncaster Council sought out to develop a new leisure destination that complements the existing attractions in the nearby lakeside area.The new £7.7m retail park is a new destination where people can enjoy restaurants and leisure facilities next to the existing VUE cinema at the popular Lakeside in Doncaster.This development includes Europe’s first-ever Drive-Thru Dunkin’ Donuts, as well as a mix of local and national fast food outlets. These buildings are surrounded by service yards and 181 parking spaces, nine of which are electric car charging points.The green potential for the Herten Triangle was high on the agenda. The space includes sustainably-sourced timber-clad elevations, solar PV arrays, over 5000 plants and shrubs and 120 trees.Working with Willmott Dixon as the main contractor, Smeeden Foreman delivered hard and soft landscape designs for the external works for this new development.A whole host of Marshalls products were used for this project to help bring a modern and appealing feel to the complex. Modal textured in Light Granite, Anthracite Granite, Silver Grey Granite, Indian Granite and Mid Grey Granite were used in the light trafficked areas around the buildings. Saxon paving in Natural was used on the pathways in the social areas. Keyblok in Natural, Charcoal, Brindle and our White Marker blocks were used for the car parking bays. All of the above were installed alongside Conservation X and British Standard kerbs and edging, as well as Blister Paving for crossing areas.Neil Tyler the Senior Build Manager at Willmott Dixon had this to say:“The service provided by Marshalls was excellent, particularly with the quantities of paving required in a relatively short period of time. Taking sustainability to a new level, 8 Bishopsgate is tallest building in the UK to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding and EPC A rating. Contributing to the low carbon footprint, Style, who offer moveable partitioning wall systems that are certified with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN15804, was contracted to work with architect, WilkinsonEyre and contractor, Brown and Carroll, to create flexible space on three levels.Utilising a combination of Dorma Huppe Variflex semi-automatic, solid and glazed moveable wall systems, Style created adaptable meeting and breakout areas to accommodate different sized groups and events whilst maximising the use of natural light.8 Bishopsgate is a landmark, 50-storey tower offering premium office space in central London. With sustainability a key element, the building boasts an array of architectural optimisations ranging from the recycling of heat from the cooling systems to the installation of the highest solar panels in London. Positioning the company and its products at the forefront of sustainability, Style not only holds the EPD, but is also accredited under the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System, ensuring operational processes maximise sustainability goals whilst limiting wasted resources.In addition to Style’s green credentials, the moveable walls installed at 8 Bishopsgate boast a 52db acoustic rating on the glazed walls, and a 59db rating on the solid walls, ensuring complete privacy between divided areas.Not forgetting aesthetics, on level 2 the solid walls are finished in a perforated timber veneer, and on level 50 a kvadrat steel cut trio fabric was applied, perfectly harmonising with the interior décor.On the concourse, Style installed a glazed sliding folding wall system allowing a private area to be created without compromising natural light.A combination of semi-automatic Dorma Huppe Variflex solid and glazed walls create adaptable meeting and breakout areas on the second floor. At the top of the building, a further semi-automatic Variflex moveable wall adds flexibility to an expansive conference facility with breathtaking views over London.

In May 2017, the Main Building which housed the lounge, dining, reception area, and the Taphuis Bar, was gutted in a fire. Only the walls were left standing and all of its contents were destroyed. Because of the historic significance of the building, the project team needed to move through a strenuous process of permissions and approvals to start the rebuild. Part of the brief, was to ensure that as far as possible, original materials would be used, that would reflect the previous look and feel, making the sourcing and availability of crucial importance. This building in particular, dates back to the early 1700's and finding timber for the roof structure was a challenge. They decided to use Spruce.The biggest drawback of using Spruce is that it is a very light and pale coloured timber. To achieve the aged look and feel of the original timber, they used Rubio Monocoat's Pre-Color Easy and Hybrid Wood Protector.

The ETB building is dedicated to research, development and demonstration (RD&D) in sustainable energy technologies. It incorporates energy efficient materials and is designed to minimise its demands for heating, cooling, lighting and ventilation. It actually produces more energy than it requires, heating the neighbouring Institute of Mental Health Building.Approximately 1000m2 of Ash & Lacy Façade was specified on the building’s two main elevations in the VariAL CF1 configuration. VariAL CF1 is a concealed-fix, baffle-jointed cassette rainscreen with a fully adjustable support system, primarily used for horizontal application on walls and for soffits. Designed to fit in with the high-tech building design and to appear to exude their own energy, the panels were manufactured in Alucobond Spectra Sacura ACM finish. This provides a quite stunning two-tone iridescent effect that shows ever changing hues of pink and silver that constantly vary as the angle of view or illumination changes.

Stainless steel worktops, sinks, splashbacks and shelving, from GEC Anderson, have been installed at The Lab at Fitzjohns Primary School in Hampstead. They provide a durable, professional looking kitchen area as well as adding valuable light to an otherwise dark space.The work carried out in the Lab, a science and cookery facility, is part of a phased transformation of the school, involving a complex programme, designed to cause minimum disruption to the occupied school.The school is split into four blocks; the main block being listed and over 150 years old. The Lab is located on the ground floor of this block in an old culvert space which had been open to the elements and was used as a dumping area!Frank Swan, Bursar for Fitzjohn Primary said, “The Lab was built to put an additional focus on science in the school and to have a dedicated learning space for the subject.”

Canal were approached to manufacture and install an exclusive feature staircase for a private residence in Derby. The Cantilever staircase structure was manufactured in mild steel and features American Black Walnut box treads with a laminated glass balustrade.The upper floor featured structural glass balustrading with a stainless-steel slotted handrail that connected to the staircase structure. The handrail was fully welded, satin polished and featured a floating balustrade. The treads underneath the staircase featured strip lights to create ambience and blended perfectly with the contemporary and minimalistic features of the property. The client commented that the finished structure ‘looked superb and was pleased with the overall result’At Canal Architectural we take on board all specification requirements to ensure that the finished staircase design is functional, practical and aesthetically pleasing. The Canal site team worked closely with the contractor to ensure smooth fitting in line with current UK building regulations.

The Heineken brewery at Tadcaster has a 38 million litre capacity and is one of the largest in the country.The Heineken brewery produces more than 90% of the beers sold in the UK, and around 30% of the nation’s apples go into their ciders. The company required upgraded door systems at their processing facility in Tadcaster. Dortek supplied large Novosprint high speed doors between storage and production areas. The short opening and closing speeds of the Novosprint doors which have speeds of up to 5 m/s were ideal for this client who wanted fast, collision free access. The doors were also equipped with radar activation sensors, two photocells and traffic light control for safe and trouble-free operation. The safety sensors prevent the risk of accidents and drastically reduce any damage to the goods or the transport vehicles using the doors.

The Sandy Park hotel (a £35 million project) is located at the southern end of the award-winning Sandy Park complex found next to the Exeter Chiefs Rugby stadium.Sandy Park Hotel which officially opened in April 2022, has 250 bedrooms, a rooftop bar and a restaurant including state-of-the-art leisure facilities. The building is an eight-story hotel that boasts beautiful views of the River Exe Estuary. At its front is a bridge leading from Sandy Park Complex’s south end and into one of UK’s finest hotels -The Marriott Hotel Reception where guests are welcomed upon arrival.Valcan supplied approx. 2000m2 of Valcan Ceramapanel in charcoal and light slate with a finish of natural textures touch.Valcan Ceramapanel is a non-combustible fibre cement cladding rated A1 to BS EN 13501-01 which was the perfect choice for the building’s facade.

Project Name:Niles Bakery, St AustellProject Location:St Austell, CornwallProduct UsedCemfloor C30Based in the scenic town of St. Austell, this project consists of a ground floor baking factory over 630m2 and first floor office space of similar size.Cemfloor was chosen for this project thanks to its many benefits including easy installation and reduced drying time.The floor needed to be strong enough to carry the weight of the baking machines so Cemfloor c30 at75mm was the proposed solution for the ground floor.On the first floor, heavy foot traffic and office equipment needed to be considered and Cemfloorc30 at 50mm was installed.Time on site was limited and the screed needed to be installed in a short time frame. NMA Flooring started the pour at 8am and were offsite by 11:30am. Light site traffic work was able to commence 48 hours after the pour

From the earliest concept stages, this London architect wanted to be sure that his garden room extension could really be the family's main living room. They were not looking for the traditional French Pinoleum Blinds that usually go with Vale Garden Houses, but instead, a modern horizontal blind, to be fully concealed when not required.Complete in every detail, coving to hide the lighting, shadow gap to complement the Blindspace cover finished in matching paint material. The attention to detail, at the planning stages, has paid off well with this installation.When taking the photos, the homeowner expressed her complete satisfaction with the way the blind had brought the whole room together. They were concerned that the inclusion of the large lantern would spoil the homely feel and use they wanted in this living area. The blind has meant that they can be comfortable in the room, at all times. They feel the blind is a huge success.

This highly conductive structural floorboard has rapid heat transfer characteristics, enabling a more efficient underfloor heating system.Centrick Property was awarded this 3,500m² contract to construct this development in East Birmingham.

As a site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC), this 'Development of the Year’ maximises the residential capacity without compromising the nature conservation designation. This is achieved by incorporating an educational nature trail and bird hide, with generous open spaces planted with trees, green roofs to encourage biodiversity, and solar panels. Offering access to the city via convenient transport links, the abundance of greenery is overwhelming.Cellecta Gobi G2-25 was specified by Manor Architects due to it being the ideal solution to level an uneven concrete separating floor and provide all the benefits an underfloor heating system can deliver, with the added advantages of rapid heat transfer capabilities and outstanding acoustic performance.Goldrose Sharpe Developments was supplied 1,000m² of Cellecta products to develop these flats in Stoke Newington in Hackney.

182m2 of custom Oranit panels were supplied to the West of Scotland Radiotherapy facility in Lanarkshire in 2015. Panels were installed to the walls and ceilings of the public area at the hospital including a wrap-over feature wall and ceiling behind the main reception desk with integrated lighting and concealed cupboard doors. The American Red Oak panels were built in a custom module format with 48mm wide and 20mm deep horizontal blades at 75mm centres for optimised acoustic performance and minimal overall panel depth. The wall panels were made in custom sizes to suit the installation and require minimal tooling on site.   Oranit panels are suitable for non-clinical healthcare environments; when finished using the standard clear lacquer panels can be reliably cleaned using Actichlor Plus cleaning solutions as approved by NHS Scotland in addition to conventional cleaning products.
