For Bun House in the vibrant neighbourhood of Soho, London, our application of Zellige tiles in varying shades and sizes reflects our ability to infuse traditional materials with contemporary design sensibilities. This 100m² project enhances the unique aesthetic of this popular eatery, blending cultural heritage with modern culinary flair. The choice of Zellige tiles for Bun House was influenced by their handmade qualities and rich color variations, which add depth and texture to the space. The Moss (Dark) Green, Light Green, and White tiles were used in a creative mix, forming an inviting and dynamic environment that mirrors the vibrant, fresh flavors of the menu. The smaller sizes of the tiles allowed for intricate patterns and designs, which bring an artisanal touch to the interiors. This project not only enhanced the visual appeal of Bun House but also demonstrated our expertise in using traditional Zellige tiles to create a modern, bespoke look that complements the lively atmosphere of Soho.

One of the most modern hospitals in Germany has been in operation since the beginning of 2024: the new Helios HSK in Wiesbaden. Around 120,000 outpatients and 45,000 inpatients are treated here every year in 28 specialist clinics and institutes, with more than 2,400 employees working for the hospital.With an investment sum of 268 million euros, a new building complex with a longitudinal axis of 200 m and a depth of 100 m was erected directly next to the existing Helios Dr. Horst Schmidt Clinics, which can accommodate all the functions of a maximum care provider in high-performance medicine. The architecture and comb structure of the new building are aligned with the treatment processes and follow the principle of short distances: the departments are arranged in such a way that synergies are created and interdisciplinary cooperation is facilitated. The foyer, cafeteria, corridors and staircases of the building were designed to be functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time using selected series of Villeroy & Boch tiles.The vilbostone ABERDEEN porcelain stoneware series create a purist atmosphere with a subtle natural touch in the open foyer, which is flooded with light thanks to large glass surfaces and furnished with light-colored wood, in the corridors and stairwells. Inspired by the silver-grey granite from the former quarries around the harbor town of the same name in north-east Scotland, the design of the tiles adapts the typical inclusions and gloss effects of the grey Aberdeen stones in high-quality ceramics. In the floor design, the 30 x 60 cm and 15 x 60 cm formats in the expressive, matt slate grey color are combined in a bond, creating an interesting, lively look in the surfaces. The floor covering is extremely robust and easy to clean and offers a high level of slip resistance with slip resistance R10/A. The stairwells are designed with special 30 x 120 cm stair tiles, the edges of which have contrasting colored edges and milled grooves for better visibility. In addition, in particularly sensitive areas such as the kitchen, tiles with slip resistance R12-V4 were laid, which, thanks to their special surface structure, enable safe standing and walking even with large amounts of liquids or grease. The ABERDEEN wall tile in light white pearl in 30 x 60 cm format was also laid in various sanitary areas. A lustre print finish creates interesting matt-gloss effects on the glazed stoneware tiles, which subtly imitate the character of granite and can be perceived to varying degrees depending on the incidence of light and point of view.In the cafeteria, whose interior design with the theme of “water” is reminiscent of Wiesbaden’s tradition as a spa town, floor areas with tiles from the historically inspired design concept CENTURY UNLIMITED catch the eye. The high-quality vilbostone porcelain stoneware combines a fine cotto cement look with decorations inspired by the Mettlach tiles from the 19th century. Attractive tile carpets have been created with decorative tiles in a successful contrast to the ABERDEEN surface in a consistent color: As a border, the cotto-colored Diamonds decor with classic diamonds creates a three-dimensional trompe l’œil effect. The main surface of the “carpet” is composed of the Circles decor, which uses ornaments in various coordinated shades of grey and beige as well as the expressive colors cotto and indigo to place the traditional patterns in a highly aesthetic, contemporary context.

With a height of up to 110 m, the impressive Elbphilharmonie rises up on around 1,700 reinforced concrete piles. The architects from Herzog & de Meuron have placed a curved glass facade made up of more than 1,000 differently curved window elements on the brick Kaispeicher A, a former warehouse for cocoa, tobacco and tea. Their shape is reminiscent of giant horseshoes and tuning forks and creates unique mirroring effects. The concavely curved roof evokes impressive wave crowns with shimmering sequins.The heart of the Elbphilharmonie is the legendary concert hall, which literally floats at a height of 50 meters – decoupled from the rest of the building for sound insulation reasons. Its acoustics, for which the Japanese Yasuhisa Toyota, one of the world’s most renowned acousticians, is responsible, are overwhelming: the “White Skin”, which owes its name to the around 10,000 gypsum fiber panels on the walls and ceilings, and a reflector in the middle of the vaulted ceiling for optimal listening pleasure in each of the 2,100 seats. Functionally and aesthetically reliable tilesIn addition to two other concert halls, the building is home to 45 apartments, the freely accessible plaza at a height of 37 meters with a 360° panorama over the city and a very special hotel. The “The Westin Hamburg” extends in the eastern part of the building from the 6th. floor to the end floor on the 20th floor. In the 244 exclusive rooms and suites, discerning guests will encounter Villeroy&Boch tiles: mosaics from the PRO ARCHITECTURA series are integrated into the design concept by Tassilo Bost, bost group berlin. The calm, puristic interior design plays with the themes of sand, air and water and combines a linear design with a flowing design language. The pure white small formats of just 2.5 x 2.5 cm with a matt surface give the designer space for individual bathroom designs. The minimalist ceramic tiles underline the exquisite room atmosphere in a reserved manner and without pushing themselves into the foreground.“The Westin Hamburg” also includes a 1,300 m² fitness and wellness area. In addition to training options, saunas, steam baths, two fresh air loggias with a view of the Elbe and the harbor, treatment and relaxation rooms and a lounge, the Elb Spa offers the longest indoor hotel pool in Hamburg at 20 m. The swimming pool was also designed with PRO ARCHITECTURA. Villeroy&Boch Tiles has been a proven and reliable partner for planners and architects in swimming pool construction for many years and, in addition to modular tile series, offers them all the additional molded parts for a functionally high-quality and at the same time aesthetically sophisticated swimming pool. PRO ARCHITECTURA is also used in the staff rooms for the approximately 160 employees, who look after the well-being of hotel guests from all over the world at “The Westin Hamburg”.

The versatility of the tiles made them an excellent choice for both flooring and worktop applications, creating a cohesive visual flow throughout the premises. Project Execution and Impact This installation at Brill Place required precise coordination and execution, given the bustling nature of King's Cross and the operational demands of Lina Stores. Fire resistant, multi-directional, high movement, structural joint sealing of floor slabs from below for 120minutes, EI Fire ratings using Emshield-DFR from NCC Movement joints Limited.St William is a division of Berkely Homes, predominantly working on some of the most technically complex regeneration projects on brownfield sites, at the heart of communities across London, and typically with a landscape-led approach. Riverside Park and Gardens is being developed on the former Leven Road Gasworks in Poplar, East London, forming part of the 20 acres Aberfeldy Village scheme. This is an ambitious regeneration project in the borough of Tower Hamlets, with around 3000 new homes, plus shops, offices, cafes, bars, and a cinema, as well as extensive landscaped gardens, play areas, and riverside walks.On this important development by the River Thames, the structural floor slab joints ranged from only 15mm to 25mm wide, but they were subject to high multi-directional movement requirements, plus they required a minimum 120-minute EI Fire Rating to protect the future residents. To add to the complexity, there were shear connectors within the floor slabs that also needed protection to ensure their structural integrity in the event of a fire.An “E120” denotes that the system will not allow flames and hot gases from physically passing through the element for 120 minutes, which also explicitly denotes that the system will achieve 120 minutes ‘Integrity’ (E) and ‘Insulation (I), known as EI120, which therefore also achieves 120 minutes ‘Stability’ (R) in fire.Emshield-DFR-2 provided the ideal solution, and one which could also be rapidly installed from below in a single operation. This specialist work was completed by specialist fireproofing contractors, Gould Sealants Limited, working for Main Contractor, Morris Roe. Emshield-DFR/WFR is an EN-1366-4 tested, fire-rated movement joint, designed to be used in movement joints in exterior and interior walls where a combination of watertightness, fire-rating, sound attenuation, and thermal-efficiency are required. Dishoom, a celebrated Indian restaurant in London's Canary Wharf, enhanced its dining space with our Mosaic Terrazzo tiles, covering an area of 67m². This selection from our range beautifully transitions from green to beige, adding to the restaurant's inviting atmosphere. Crafted using traditional artisanal methods, our tiles incorporate natural materials and pigments, embodying our commitment to environmental sustainability. The project aligns with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification standards, which advocate for sustainable building and design practices. The incorporation of our Mosaic Terrazzo tiles at Dishoom Canary Wharf underscores the restaurant's dedication to quality and sustainability, offering guests a visually stunning and eco-friendly dining environment. 

A contractor client was working on a retro-fit balcony and flat roof project in Brighton. The waterproofing membrane had tapered insulation placed on top and the contractor discovered ballasting the insulation was needed, only once on the roof. The door thresholds were too tight for a traditional decking system with joists. Wallbarn advised for paving slabs on 9mm rubber pads; then 30mm thick ipe timber tiles mounted onto Adjustable Pedestals. The buildup was under 100mm and the overall finish of the tropical hardwood was glorious. The architect was relieved that we could produce a solution, the client was delighted.

Oldham Sixth Form College has installed 750m2 of Array carpet tiles from Heckmondwike’s Creative Range in its Student Support Hub. Heckmondwike’s Array carpet tile range features a mid-width rib design and a charcoal background enhanced with a subtle linear pattern. The Array range can be used in conjunction with Heckmondwike’s popular Broadrib range to provide borders or other stunning effects allowing endless design possibilities. Like all Heckmondwike’s products, tiles, such as Array, can be cut on-site without the risk of fraying, allowing individual flooring designs to be created and installed with ease.

To showcase the product range, the Airport Center features an impressive spatial concept, in which the tile design from the X-PLANE collection of V&B Tiles was impressively staged. In X-PLANE’s design composition, the original appearance of a cement surface is enhanced with a metallic glimmer. This enhancement of the surface leads to a variety of stylistic possibilities, which were used to enhance the atmosphere in the showroom of Mercedes Benz. Covering an impressive 1,000m², this project required a flooring solution that matched Google's ethos of innovation, quality, and sustainability.  Snowdonia Essential Plus Terrazzo tiles, chosen for this project, feature a subtle off-white base with varying sizes of grey and white chips. This modern engineered marble is not just about aesthetics it boasts exceptional quality and sustainability credentials, being LEED-certified. This certification underscores the tiles contribution to energy efficiency and environmental design in buildings. Google's new London HQ, envisioned by renowned architects Heatherwick Studio and Bjarke Ingels Group and brought to life by BDP, reimagines the traditional office space. The design prioritizes a low-rise structure that harmonizes with the urban landscape of King's Cross, emphasizing subtlety and consideration in every aspect. Being part of the creation of Google's groundbreaking London headquarters was an opportunity to showcase our commitment to quality, sustainability, and design excellence. Manufacture and installation of bespoke white concrete kitchen worktops and concrete cladded central island. The large format concrete panels were wrapped around the central island with 3D concrete tiles completing the design. All worktops and tiles were fitted using mechanical and chemical fixings.

The installation at Farmer J in Jubilee Place, Canary Wharf, showcases our adaptability and commitment to sustainability, even with discontinued lines like the Bergamo White Terrazzo Resin - R001. The project encompassed a compact yet impactful 50m² area, perfectly suited for the vibrant and bustling atmosphere of a modern eatery. The Bergamo White Terrazzo Resin tiles were an excellent choice for Farmer J, known for their commitment to fresh, fast, and vibrant meals. The tiles’ bright white base with subtle flecks of gray and black mirror this ethos, creating a clean, fresh look that enhances the natural light within the space. Despite being a discontinued product, these tiles were sourced and installed to meet the client's need for a high-quality, aesthetically pleasing floor that aligns with their brand image. This project not only revitalized Farmer J’s dining space but also underscored our ability to provide eco-friendly and visually appealing solutions, maintaining the integrity and continuity of the restaurant's design theme.  

Roof terrace on the third floor of a residential block. The customer wanted a floating deck but was keen to source decking that could be easily installed. They needed to deal with a slope and variation in the surface, as well as easy access to a drain. Wallbarn recommended their Cumuru hardwood timber tiles which being 500mm x 500mm x 30mm, which are highly portable and perfect for low threshold retro-fits. To deal with the variation in surfaces around the deck, we recommended laying the timber tiles onto our ‘Balance’ self-levelling pedestals. Total installation time: 3 hours

Our client on this project specialise in vehicle conversions for all emergency services and government departments. This project involved a penthouse with a huge roof terrace. The existing deck was dilapidated and needed complete replacement. The existing decking needed to be lifted, cut up and removed. The terrace was jet-washed and sealed. Using ipe tiles on top of adjustable pedestals keeps the tiles out of standing water and creates space underneath for cables, etc. Rooftop terraces are difficult to access. 500x500mm timber tiles are much easier to manually handle and transport than long plank decking. The tiles aren’t fixed to the pedestals, making them future-proofed.
