At Yealmpton Primary to the East of Plymouth in South Devon all children are encouraged to be more active during break and lunch times with sports and fitness at the forefront of that focus. When the school implemented a refurbishment programme for their multi-use hall and kitchen servery area, they turned to international flooring specialist Gerflor to supply their world class Taraflex® Multi-Use vinyl sports flooring and their Tarasafe Ultra safety flooring. The Audley Stanbridge Earls retirement village is an exclusive residential development of 155 luxury retirement apartments and cottages designed around a Grade II listed Tudor Manor house on a 32 acre site near Romsey, in Hampshire. Underfloor Heating had been specified as part of the design and the large floor areas now needed to be finished with floor screed that could be installed quickly and efficiently within the operating windows provided by the main contractor.TOPFLOW Screed A Thermio + offers a higher thermal conductivity than conventional sand-cement screeds, can be laid thinner and fully encapsulates heating pipes without leaving any voids. This makes it ideal for use with underfloor heating systems where it helps to improve the thermal performance and energy efficiency of buildings. All TOPFLOW Screed A products are made from gypsum and are completely cement free, with a binder made from 98% recycled material. This gives it a lower carbon footprint than a conventional cement-based screeds, saving up to 20.45kg CO2e per m2, making it a more sustainable choice.

The Glasgow Science Centre’s vision is to empower people through learning and engaging with science. With over 350K unique visitors every year, the centre needed to replace the existing flooring throughout the facility. During a recent refurbishment international flooring specialist Gerflor would supply a mixture of their hardwearing GTI Max, Attraction® and Taralay Premium flooring that would total 1800m2.

Pencoedtre High School is a large new build high school in Barry, Wales. When this busy school required a brand-new world class flooring surface for its main indoor sports hall, they simply wanted only the best! HLM Architects would specify 700m2 of Taraflex® vinyl sports flooring in ‘Maple’, from international flooring specialists Gerflor.

A £5m renovation scheme in Warrington has been presented with the “Best Change of Use to Existing Building” regional award by LABC (Local Authority Building Control) and Warrington Borough Council.The scheme required the conversion of a former office building, Kings Court, in Central Warrington, into 32 luxury flats, comprising of a mix of one and two bedroom apartments, arranged over three floors of accommodation. These flats are situated above retail units and restaurants. The renovation included a further two exclusive duplex penthouses for Phase 2.As part of the renovation, Main Contractor Emerald Bay Construction required an acoustic flooring solution to meet Approved Document ‘E’ Building Regulations and therefore provide overall resident comfort, in terms of Sound Insulation between separating floors. As the building structural floor was primarily concrete, Soundis put forward a solution that involved 2,072 m2 of Soundis ChipPanel 28 to help with Impact Noise. This shallow deck floating floor is ideal for concrete floors where Airborne Noise is not an issue but Impact Noise Attenuation needs to exceed the requirements of current Building Regulations.

A Mapei system of flooring products has been specified as part of a major refurbishment at the Imperial War Museum. The historic museum is being sympathetically transformed to mark the centenary of the First World War. Mapei’s high performance cementitious flooring system, Ultratop, was chosen to complement the exhibits and provide low maintenance, coupled with resistance to heavy pedestrian traffic. Mapei’s flooring system was specified throughout a 5,000m2 floor area. The system combined Mapei Topcem rapid-drying screed, Primer SN and Ultratop - a technologically advanced self-smoothing cementitious floor in Anthracite.

Ystalyfera Primary School and Nursery is a newly built school for 210 pupils, forming part of an all-through school serving pupils aged 3 to 18.For the nursery washrooms, Neath Port Talbot Council specified Bushboard's Tiny Stuff toilet cubicles which are specifically designed for Early Years washrooms. A selection of our high-performance aluminium fenestration solutions has been used for this new café and drive-thru at a popular shopping destination in Wales.The new Starbucks at Parc Pemberton Retail Park has been designed by G1 Architects and built by Trojan Construction, with the aluminium fenestration package skilfully delivered by specialist contractor Sherwood Aluminium Systems.The project features both our cost-effective SCW aluminium curtain walling and our robust SFG shop front glazing system, which are both ideally suited for use in the retail sector as they combine slim sightlines with a robust and durable construction. Our curtain wall system has been used to create a bright and airy interior in the café, and the SFG system has been integrated with our SD aluminium doors to provide safe access at the entrance and exit. Our SD aluminium commercial doors have also been used on the drive-thru building, with the powder-coated aluminium frames perfectly complementing the use of timber cladding and grey façade design.The new Starbucks outlet has benefited from both Trojan Construction and Sherwood Aluminium Systems’ extensive experience undertaking similar schemes for the retailer across the UK, with Sherwood Aluminium Systems named as a preferred supplier for Starbucks.

Licata waterproofing systems were used throughout the modern bathrooms and swimming pool facility. Licata resin flooring created a sleek and finish throughout public area of the hotel.

The various rooms in the centre benefited from Gerflor’s outstanding Taralay Impression Comfort and Taralay Uni Comfort flooring.

This project is a collaborative effort of many different parties to enable many facets of the community. It was partly funded by Burnley Football Club and grants from funding bodies including Sport England. DYNAMIK worked alongside Barnfield Construction to create the sports facilities including a four court Sports Hall installed with a DYNAMIK area elastic sprung sports floor finished with Tarkett Veneto Sports Linoleum, an ideal solid synthetic surface for sporting and community use. The Dance Studio was installed with a DYNAMIK sprung sports floor in Oak.

When the local community hospital in Whitby, Yorkshire commissioned a complete re-development and refurbishment of the existing location and buildings, the flooring and finishing throughout the site would need to be of the very highest standards. Bingham Leisure Centre would see international flooring specialist Gerflor supply 120sq m of their fast track GTI Max product and their astounding Powershock 300 sports flooring for their gym and weights areas.

The Ascent Aluminium fixed ladder access system was specified to create a permanent safe access route to the roof for maintenance personnel. As the ladder provided access between two membrane roofs there was a requirement to specify non-penetrative support feet at both head & base. Hoops were provided throughout for fall protection and the ladder was designed in accordance with BS 4211:2005+A1 2008 and manufactured in accordance with CE 1090 factory production control procedures.

An adaptable, modular balcony system with a range of balustrade, floor finishes and drainage options.Levitate is manufactured off-site in accordance with our Quality (ISO 9001) and Environmental (ISO 14001) Management Systems. The foundation of Levitate is the steel frame cassette with the anchoring locations to house our balustrade system, enclosed aluminium soffit and finished floor. Concrete floor tiles come as standard but aluminium decking is also available.Levitate comes with controlled drainage, including a drip edge which prevents water from cascading onto the balcony below. Piped drainage can also be incorporated into the balcony.The first part of the installation process can be carried out safely from the scaffold, where stub connectors are installed to the cast-in anchors, which once extended, can allow completion of the external façade works. Once completed, the installation of the Levitate arms can be undertaken as the scaffold is being struck. Back in 2013 when the Ipswich Basketball Academy based at Copleston Sixth Form College (which is home to the Ipswich Basketball Club) needed to refurbish their existing floor, they turned to international flooring specialist Gerflor to supply 700m2 of their world class Taraflex® Comfort vinyl sports flooring which was installed on top of an existing Granwood floor. 245 Hammersmith Road is a commercial development in Hammersmith, W6, London. The 10-storey scheme will provide 22,482m² of flexible office accommodation and 1,207m² of retail and restaurant space at ground level, as well as exciting new public space for the local community, covering in excess of 2,500m². Alfresco Floors supplied 1200 x 600mm Fisher porcelain pavers and 600 x 600 Freel porcelain pavers.

Berry Systems supplied and installed perimeter and ramp barriers for new multi-storey car park incorporating very thin  concrete decks.A revised design for the new Heathrow Terminal 2 multi-storey car park called for a floor depth of just 150mm comprising a 60mm deep slab with 90mm structural topping. However, and there’s always a however, a traditional rigid safety barrier post needs fixing with 4 bolts each to a depth of 170mm. Obviously these couldn’t be used,so contractors Laing O’Rourke turned to barrier specialists Berry Systems to provide a solution and appropriate perimeter barriers for the 6 decks and the spiral entrance and exit ramps.Over many years Berry Systems have developed a range of flexible spring steel barriers that ‘give’ on impact. This not only reduces damage to both the barrier and an impacting vehicle but crucially reduces the pull out loading on the anchorage by 50% or more. This in turn allows post fixing to be achieved by using only a single bolt embedded to a depth of merely 110mm - a depth achievable into the new slabs.The specification was completed with Berry Beam safety rails to provide a more attractive appearance than the well known “Armco” style. Post extensions provided mountings for a pedestrian handrail at 1100mm high with integral anti-climb mesh where needed.The thin slabs were developed by Bison Manufacturing and are the thinnest precast concrete planks produced to date in the UK. They led to many benefits which considerably reduced the construction programme. It also allowed 6 floors in the usual height of 5, increasing capacity to 1340 spaces. But perimeter protection would have proved problematical without the expertise of Berry Systems.

Over ten years ago The States of Guernsey in the Channel Islands wanted to source 500m2 of sports flooring for The Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre. Taraflex® Evolution sports flooring was specified for their main sports hall.

Hush Acoustics provided an acoustic treatment for the floors within the visitor centre of the first sake brewery in the UK, Dojima Sake Brewery. The client was concerned the excessive impact noise from busy areas would transmit through the floors and affect other spaces. The solution was to develop a floating floor design involving Hush Panel 28.Hush Panel 28 was specified for use within the visitor centre to provide an acoustic overlay floor treatment for the café area, which is above the main visitor centre, to help control impact noise from the busy environment.The specification was developed in conjunction with Alinda Barua from SCABAL Architects (Studio Cullinan and Buck Architects Ltd), which represented an excellent collaboration to arrive at the required acoustic improvements.

Solid wood floor specialist Junckers worked closely with world-renowned architects BIG (Bjarne Ingles Group), to create a custom finished oak floor for the M/S Maritime Museum in Helsingør, Denmark. The textured floor acts a link within the interior scheme of the award winning building, bringing together elements of concrete, glass and steel, housed in an amazing 150 metre long, old concrete dock. The architects’ brief was for a solid hardwood floor that can withstand the heavy footfall of a national museum, with a rustic quality to soften the raw and patinated concrete and large glass panels featured throughout the building. Junckers created a textured finish solid oak floor, which gives contrasting warmth to the overall impression of the museum. By using a specially developed hard brushing technique, the outer sapwood layer of the timber is removed, leaving a tactile, textured surface to expose the beautiful grain patterns naturally inherent in oak. The floor is finished in Junckers Ultra Matt Lacquer resulting in a matt, very hard-wearing floor. The lively two-strip oak floors really come into their own in the large, open spaces of the museums galleries. When natural light from the floor to ceiling glass wall hits the surface of the floor at an angle, it creates a spectacular effect. Following the immense success of the project, Junckers has added the incredible textured finish to many of its floors, both two-strip and wide board planks.
