This energy-from-waste facility uses the household and business waste left after recycling, burning materials which would otherwise go to landfill, and generates enough electricity to power 30,000 homes. Although operations carried out at the plant are largely industrial, the appearance of the building itself including the suspended, glass fronted office section required hard landscaping to increase overall aesthetics, as well as providing a SuDS solution to ensure safe and practical surface water removal in the car parking areas...

SAS designed, supplied and installed several bespoke metal ceilings specified for the lower retail area within the mall: A mall link feature installed below glass reinforced gypsum features in the mall’s access areas.A lozenge shaped, metal can ceiling with integrated lighting, a slatted SAS700 linear ceiling and SAS320 alongside linear grilles. The aim was to create an ideal meeting place which would serve as a gateway to Birmingham. A massive 50 million people are expected through the door each year.

SAS International delivered unrivalled metal ceiling solutions for a stunning refurbishment to The Atrium Building, Sandyford. SAS was selected for its unique SAS740i linear ceiling solution with integrated lighting. This ceiling design, characterised by floating rafts, influenced the entire atrium design. Specified in a contemporary grey, SAS740i rafts were suspended 20m below the glass atrium room through a stainless-steel cable system. Black SAS130 Mesh tiles were also installed to contribute to the industrial architecture. Completed in November 2018, SAS designed and delivered timeless metal ceiling solutions that will bring the building well into the next phase of its lifetime.

Robin Moore Ede’s intriguing mix of bespoke mosaic sea frieze and honed marble seating with subtle down lighting to the floor created a steam room which offers the ultimate in comfort and visual impact!

A brand-new school and centre of excellence for special educational needs has opened in Chester’s historic Abbey Square, which required Selectaglaze secondary glazing for part of the transformation and conversion of two Grade II* Listed Georgian buildings. 70 units were installed. Series 46 fixed lights were used below sill level transom coupled to either Series 60, where there are off set sashes, or Series 20 where the sashes are of equal size. For the exceptionally large windows, over 3m, Series 90’s were specified, with their larger balance capacity these heavy-duty sliders can cope with the glass.

The congregation at Grade II Listed St Patricks Church in Bolton, can worship without interruptions from the neighbouring bus interchange, with the installation of acoustic secondary glazing. 4 large gothic arched stained glass clerestory windows were treated with internal glazed units, stopping the ingress of the sound of stationary busses which can create 70-80dB. However the tricky window was the large chancery window overlooking the altar as 4.3m (h) x 3m (w). When now inside the church, the congregation would never know there is a bus interchange just outside; the acoustic secondary glazing treatment has worked miracles.

Staff at John Adams can quickly and easily slide the panels into place, whereupon substantial rubber seals automatically expand to form the optimum acoustic barrier, every time.

Delivered at a cost of £46.5 Million the scheme comprises four 6-17 storey accommodation blocks housing 864 student units. Acoustic performance was key for the glazing in noisy roadside areas and lower levels. The solution was Senior’s energy efficient SPW600e windows fitted with acoustic energy efficient insulated glass units to achieve a sound reduction index (RW) rating of 43.   A light and welcoming space, was created in communal spaces using Senior’s thermally enhanced SF52 fully capped two-storey aluminium curtain walling, whilst perimeter capped silicone glazed SF52 was chosen for the link bridge between accommodation blocks.

The newly redeveloped Downing Place United Reformed Church in Cambridge required Selectaglaze secondary glazing for thermal insulation and improved energy efficiency. The Church was built in 1891 and stands within the Historic Core Conservation Area.56 units were installed; comprising of four Series 45 side hung casements in the Chapel and 52 Series 46 slimline fixed lights installed in the Nave. A timber mullioned cartwheel frame was crafted to securely hold the secondary glazing in a large circular window in the Nave. Seven bespoke Series 46 fixed light segments were made for it and glazed with 6mm toughened glass.

The self-contained 'superloo' cubicles each has its own vanity unit and hand drying facilities. Natural stone vanities, featuring inset waste bins, were installed along with wall panelling and our Concerto integrated duct panel system both finished in toughened glass. Our full height Alto toilet cubicle doors, which were metal faced and feature bespoke door handles, specially designed for this project, complete the design.

We’ve created a striking new reception area plus contemporary monochrome superloos and a cycle change area as part of an office refurbishment. Each self-contained superloo cubicle contains a toilet and wall-mounted vanity unit, with the full height Alto toilet cubicle doors providing complete privacy for office staff. Manufactured in white high pressure laminate, the toilet cubicle doors were completed with matching Corian solid surface edging and black ironmongery to match the rest of the black washroom accessories. Washroom also delivered toughened low iron glass back-painted wall panelling for each toilet cubicle.

The reception area had to set the tone for the rest of the building so we designed the bespoke Corian reception desk to mirror the angular lines of the unique feature staircases in the building’s central atrium. The new washrooms feature our full height Alto toilet cubicles, specified with a real wood walnut veneer finish. We designed the bespoke white Corian trough-style vanity units with an integral handbag shelf, back-painted glass splashbacks and Tego hinged mirror units. In the basement staff shower and changing area, our SGL Forza lockers provide staff with a durable, secure storage facility.

The bespoke family changing area features large full-height unisex changing cubicles in white plus integral benching together with its popular Luminoso glass shower cubicles. The Luminoso range is available in a wide range of different colours, with a deep blue colour used for this project. In the washroom areas, Washroom installed its Marcato toilet cubicles plus the colourful fun Frutti cubicles with reduced height doors for younger users.

The inside of the building features approximately 130 m2 of various Contraflam glass solutions, which ensure maximum fire safety while emphasizing the architectural design. The round shaped partition walls connecting production and meeting rooms, in particular, were a great challenge for glazed fire-resistance. The fire doors were developed and produced in collaboration with Forster Profile Systems and provided the necessary accessibility while ensuring fire safety for up to 30 minutes.

These are the latest cycle hubs designed, manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco for four hospitals on behalf of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, complete with everything a cyclist may need in order to visit each hospital by bike.Wrightington Hospital, Thomas Linacre Centre and Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, all located within Wigan, Greater Manchester, received a bespoke version of the FalcoHub cycle hub, complete with reinforced safety glass cladding, FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle racks, a cycle pump and repair stand, helmet lockers, powder coating and bespoke branding graphics.All 6m x 3m cycle hubs, capable of accommodating 22 bikes each, are clad in toughened safety glass with bespoke NHS branding graphics chosen by the client and the galvanised steel framework has been powder coated in an attractive ‘Fir Green’ RAL colour. Each cycle repair stand is equipped with a cycle pump and a number of convenient tools in order to carry out basic cycle maintenance whilst on the go.Leigh Infirmary, also based in Greater Manchester, received a bespoke version of the FalcoLok cycle store complete with traditional hardwood cladding, FalcoVert-Pro semi-vertical cycle racks to accommodate 10 bikes and five convenient helmet lockers.All FalcoHub cycle hubs as shown here at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, are a contemporary cycle store manufactured from a combination of a galvanised steel frame and reinforced safety glass / hardwood cladding, designed to be sympathetic to the surrounding area. Web developers, Mission Communications, were looking to make a positive impact on visitors to their West End offices. Stainless steel specialists, GEC Anderson ,were asked to provide the stainless steel elements, comprising surface, side-panels and shelf components that formed part of the main reception counter. With some imaginative use of lighting as well as glass panes, the result was very creative but also highly professional looking. Behind the main counter were some other stainless steel worktops as well as sinks that formed part of the office tea point and catering facilities.GEC Anderson’s usual EN 1.4301 grade brushed satin stainless steel was used throughout.

When architects ACME designed a new landmark retail facility in Leeds, the aim was to build a shopping centre fit for luxury brands. dormakaba supplied HSW-R glass sliding shop front systems, ES200 automatic sliding door entrances & MUNDUS patch fittings, to ensure a high performance access solution with elegant appearance. 150 panels across the arcade, was installed. HSW-R systems include an ITS96 door closer, concealed within frame for discreet appearance. The system’s double glazed panels are supported by aluminium ceiling suspended track avoiding any obstructions for wheelchair users. This creates an ideal access solution for retail entrance settings.

Its indoor areas have been covered using Trust technical porcelain stoneware series: the floors, clad in the Titanium colour using a multi-size installation with 40x60, 30x60 and 20x60 modules, finish the space off perfectly thanks to richness of details and natural stone effect surfaces.

Working with Main Contractor Stone Edge and Architects Brownhill Hayward Brown, Selectaglaze installed 47 secondary glazing units to several large gothic arched stained-glass windows in Grade II Listed St Philips Church, Wolverhampton for the purpose of noise insulation and thermal insulation. Selectaglaze installed 34 units to 11 openings, a combination of 11 Series 10 slimline horizontal sliding units and 23 Series 46 slimline fixed light units. Fixed light secondary glazing can be coupled together with other products units as over lights or side lights - ideal for arched windows as they can be shaped or curved to a full circle.

The £226m, 513 single bedroomed hospital features a dedicated Women and Children’s unit with a Level 2 Neo-Natal Unit providing special and high dependency care. The imposing primary windows have been supplemented with secondary units providing better internal environment control, offering additional guarding and allowing for remote controlled privacy blinds. Together with main contractor Laing O’Rourke, Selectaglaze developed a design that met all criteria. Most windows were treated with Series 40 hinged and fixed panels featuring a chamfer bead to avoid dust ledges. Glazed with 8.8mm laminated glass, the units meet the required safety levels.

Neaco have supplied a contemporary balustrade specification for a 60-bed residential care home in Barrow. The £7m Parkview Gardens care home has replaced four older Cumbria Care homes as part of a wider modernisation programme of care for older people in the Barrow area. Architects Alston Murphy Associates specified Neaco’s powder coated aluminium balustrade with glass infill panel. The building was designed to provide outdoor space on every floor, including first floor terraces featuring Neaco’s glazed balustrade installed to an extended height to provide additional safety. The terraces also include Neaco’s Techdek aluminium grilles as terrace decking.

As part of the works, Selectaglaze were sub-contracted to manufacture and install the secondary glazing units for thermal and acoustic insulation.38 units were produced from across the slimline range of secondary glazing; Series 10 – 2 and 3 pane sliders were used for the smaller windows and 4 pane horizontal sliding units for those spanning just shy of 2 metres. Series 45 hinged casements were installed, a couple of which were glazed with satinovo glass to provide privacy.

Partitioning experts Style, worked closely with contractor, Geoffrey Osbourne, and Associated Architects to assist and advise on the design, bringing practical, aesthetic and cost-saving benefits to the project. Demonstrating Style’s extensive portfolio, the final arrangement involved a 50 dB Rw DORMA glass wall in a seminar room, a DORMA Variflex system on which art can be displayed, two 56dB Rw acoustic DORMA moveable walls and a 46dB Rw folding wall dividing meeting/ training rooms.

The extended structure of the Isaac Newton Building in Lincoln houses the Schools of Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics which offer unrivalled scientific and engineering facilities for students. This includes new seminar rooms and computer labs in addition to state-of-the-art technology and research rooms, complete with a semi-anechoic chamber.Playing a significant role in creating the curved appearance of the building was our visible grid aluminium curtain walling. This durable and versatile system can be applied to flat or faceted facades and is available in a choice of glazing gaskets and larger glass sizes. Aluminium windows were also installed throughout the building for modern design and complete weather protection.

Aiming to maximise space at Bank of America's UK offices, Style was contracted to work with TP Bennett and contractor Amspec, to design a partitioning solution that would allow the meeting rooms to be used more flexibly, and encourage collaborative working practices. Two Dorma Hüppe Variflex, semi-automatic, white laminate operable walls divide the main meeting room into two separate areas. Boasting an impressive 59dB acoustic integrity, the walls allow concurrent meetings to run entirely undisturbed. Inspiring lively sharing of ideas, Style also installed six vibrantly coloured, moveable glass ‘squiggle’ panels, providing magnetic, writable surfaces for use in dynamic discussions.

In 2016 Imperial College London acquired the neighbouring disused Royal Mail Post Sorting Office. Architects Pascall+Watson specified secondary glazing to improve their performance. Over seven different types were installed to match the varying styles; large sweeping curved headed casements were treated with matching sightline Series 41 side hung casements, tall traditional box sash windows were treated with Series 20 and 25 vertical sliding units. Obscurity glass was specified, to prevent distractions for the researchers and staff. The windows overlooking the busy thoroughfares of Exhibition Road and Imperial College Road were fitted with a cavity to provide added acoustic insulation.
