A new paradigm of beauty and functionality: Atlas Concorde's concrete-effect porcelain tiles decorate the exterior floors of a luxurious private villa. In a refined residence on the outskirts of Memphis, the spacious, bright spaces boast the traits of an exclusive designer identity based on a perfect balance between technical performance and aesthetic research. Capable of ennobling the surrounding environment thanks to their value and uniqueness, Atlas Concorde concrete-look tiles were chosen to furnish outdoor paving and the edges of the outdoor swimming pool. An expression of an original urban chic style, the ceramic surface selected for the outdoor spaces is enhanced by textures featuring a blend of the warm shades of oxidation and the cooler hues typical of concrete. In a setting where harmony reigns, the ceramic material stands out not only for its marked personality, but also for the characteristics of safety and reliability necessary when designing outdoor environments. In fact, the large garden of the American residence features concrete-look porcelain tiles in the large 120x120 cm grip format with a 2 cm thickness specific for outdoor pavers: a guaranteed non-slip – and therefore safe – surface. The light colour also makes them ideal for outdoor paving where people walk barefoot during the summer: by absorbing little external heat, the surface is less warm to the touch. Project descriptionTouchwood Shopping Centre in Solihull, Birmingham is an award-winning, 650,000 square-foot shopping and entertainment complex, which opened its doors in September 2001.Touchwood has become a blueprint for in-town development due to its innovative design, easy access to the M42, and 1,700 car parking spaces. It is home to more than 80 stores, 20 bars and restaurants, and a 9-screen cinema. The centre has successfully improved neighbouring facilities with malls, a retail offering, and civic gardens, providing green spaces for the local community.Rio Asphalt and Paving Co Ltd worked closely with the shopping centre management team to offer a replacement waterproofing and paving element for the 900m2 service deck area.Solution and installationThe focus was on delivering a solution that worked for both client and the tenants and ensured a smooth and seamless experience.IKO Permapark – a specially formulated mastic asphalt surfacing and waterproofing system for car parks and elevated vehicle decks – and the fast-curing IKO flexia metatech liquid waterproofing were chosen as the most suitable solutions for the project, given their durability and rapid installation capabilities.Certain areas were prioritised by the management team and project works were phased. The deck was split into manageable sections, which helped to minimise disruption and limit the impact on those occupying and visiting the site during the project period.Particular attention was given to the mechanical and electrical (M&E) services, which remained operational throughout the works. As areas were inaccessible for mastic asphalt, a compatible cold applied system was used instead. This enabled the works to dovetail into a small number of inaccessible areas, refurbishing what would have either been left or required substantial financial outlay and risk. The service deck area, which remained in use during the project, operated a one-way system for all vehicles. Rio also took measures to maintain road access around the centre and provided temporary delivery areas to assist with the distribution of goods to the stores.

This Grade II listed farmhouse in Monmouthshire has recently been redecorated using the KEIM Granital system. The 16th – 18th century limewashed lime rendered property needed a freshen up. The limewash was delaminating and powdery, lower sections on the northern elevation were damp with black mould, green growth moss and algae were prevalent on all elevations, as well as hairline cracks within the render.   It was specified that all elevations should be cleaned free of excessive mould and green-growth and powdery residue from the limewash. KEIM Algicid-Plus to be applied and left to dry on the surface before coating. The lower exposed render on the front elevation was suffering from splash back off the paving stone, it was recommended that an application of KEIM Silan Primer was applied on the first 0.5m of this elevation, to allow improved water repellence. The KEIM Granital system was then used to obliterate hairline cracks and provide a breathable coating.
