Rated BREEAM “Very Good”.The building features a dramatic top-lit central atrium space arranged at the heart of the floorplates. It affords the client, a leading international biotechnology company, to operate in exemplar facilities in a flexible environment to meet current needs, planned growth and evolving working patterns, including future proofing for laboratory uses. Aukett Swanke’s design embodies quality, simplicity and elegance, which enabled rapid construction to meet the proposed occupation date.Specific Project ChallengesThe façade design needed to be optimised so that the building could capture heat in the winter, minimise heat gain in the summer and maximise the use of natural daylight.The south-facing elevation, therefore, required a dynamic screen, acting as a brise soleil, maximising daylight opportunities and simultaneously avoiding excessive solar heat gain in the building interior.Solutions OfferedAsh & Lacy provided a bespoke two-step facade solution, using 3mm natural silver anodised aluminium to meet both the aesthetic and practical requirements at BioMed Realty.South elevation panels were rectangular perforated and mounted on a frame in front of the glazed curtain wall to form the dynamic screen.North, East and West elevation panels consisted of matching solid castellated panels with an embossed pattern matching the dynamic screen panels.

Broxap won the contract to provide an external works package for this project.This allowed Broxap to work on a prestigious new academy alongside Keir Construction, appointed by Cambridgeshire County Council.This external works package was quite extensive and featured a series of Coventry Gullwing-style cycle shelters with Harrogate stands beneath.As well as these cycle parking solutions, Broxap also provided a series of door barriers across the school site and Whitwell and Roslin benches.The school is set to support a new major housing development as the first education development on the site.Significantly, this scheme will provide education for 420 primary school age children plus 52 pre-school age children.The intention is that the school’s construction takes place at the same time as remaining development (David Wilson Homes). Fortunately, Broxap’s expert team provided these products with their usual punctuality and no-hassle approach.The permanent infrastructure will be in place prior to construction works; this will enable safe, permanent access to and from the school site.

The ProjectChaddesden Park Primary School in Derby, re-opened in June following a 2-year building programme and refurbishment, for their 1960s buildings. The new two-storey building was constructed to the latest building standards, accommodating 402 pupils from the ages of 3-11.The teaching staff and school management team were, however, acutely aware of the operational hurdles posed by the outdated 1960s buildings. Consequently, they were motivated to ensure that the products selected for the new build met criteria for reliability, practicality, safety, and energy efficiency. This extended to the washrooms, which were outdated in numerous ways.Joyce Gallagher, Chaddesden Park Primary School Business Manager explains: "The washrooms in our previous school buildings utilised paper towels for the children to dry their hands. This created daily problems for us."Therefore, the use of paper towels in the school was problematic and needed addressing urgently.SolutionThe school opted to install the latest generation of low energy hand dryers to avoid the issues it had experienced with paper towels.These hand dryers the school selected included the Biodrier Biobot - a child-friendly hand dryer, designed specifically for small children - and the Biodrier Eco - an extremely energy efficient hand dryer.Joyce comments on the thought process behind selecting this dryers: "The Biobot and Ecodriers were primarily chosen because of the potential for savings on paper towels, plumber call-outs and cleaner routines, but they also gave us the opportunity to help educate children about the importance of environmental savings given the reduction in wastage and application of low energy technology. This was particularly so with the Biobots which feature a colourful educational back-board which helps encourage the children to use the wash their hands to use the dryers."The ResultsThe upgrade from paper towels to energy-efficient hand dryers transformed the school's washrooms completely.Joyce continues: "The new school may only be a few months into its life but the results so far are fantastic. Compared to our old school buildings, the washrooms are tidier, safer, more attractive to visit and cost us far less to operate and maintain. The energy savings will become apparent as they are monitored over time, but we expect the dryers to make an important contribution to helping us minimise our carbon footprint longer term and reduce our energy consumption.”

As a project local to Vincent Timber here in Birmingham, this was quite an exciting one for us. Contractors Design and Build worked alongside architects Piper Whitlock on behalf of Harvest on this stunning, 30-acre regeneration project, which was formerly an industrial site.The project is a joint Sainsbury's and Landsec venture which features 250,000 sq. ft. of retail and leisure buildings. As you may imagine, the large onsite Sainsbury's, erected upon stilts, is an impressive feature building.“It was very exciting working on this large-scale project, especially with the unique solar shading we created. Being built locally meant it was great to see the site as it progressed.”  - Malcolm Frowen, Head of Cladding and Brise Soleil Sales @ Vincent TimberWhat You'll Find Here The Sainsbury's site not only features an unforgettable glazed movement atrium, most of its elevations are also clad in beautiful vertical timber strips. Other retailers include Next, Marks & Spencer and JD Sports while Nando's and Costa provide a fuel break from all the shopping fun. All of which are fronted with aesthetically pleasing solar shading created using our Sivalbp timber.Design and aesthetic have been a huge focus of this project, combining many wonderful materials and features while heavily incorporating the Worcester and Birmingham canal to create a unique experience that's so much more than shopping. Whilst there is parking for 860 cars onsite, the canal side square connects the site to the centre of Selly Oak, providing easy access for pedestrians and cyclists too. PROJECT BACKGROUND: Patients, staff, and visitors for the Oxford Road site of Manchester Royal Infirmary use the linking Hathersage Road Car Park daily.REQUIREMENT:A compact internal ramp for the level 2 and level 7 entrances.END RESULT:Two small internal ramps with bespoke yellow handrails and a 1:15 gradient were installed within a few hours. Our ramps come in components that were small enough to be carried into the carpark lift and onto the levels.The ramp feet were bolted into the ground to keep the systems securely in place.FEATURES INCLUDED:Standard Handrail - this handrail system ensures users always have support to hold onto.Trombone Ends - these are added to the ends of a Rapid Ramp to prevent clothes catching.Mesh Platform - the self-draining mesh allows water to pass through rather than collect on the surface.Powder coated Finish – rails are coated with thermosetting powder to provide a non-conductive, non-slip and scratch resistant surface.Telescopic Legs - these can be adjusted to accommodate different threshold heights.EXTRA FEATURE INCLUDED:Yellow Powdercoated Handrails – yellow is one of the easiest colours to see because of its ability to reflect light.Yellow Tread - this is a safety feature designed to help those with impaired vision identify the nose of the ramp and level changes.

Now home to a large selection of national retails brands such as ASDA and Next, the Abbeywood Shopping Park renovation scheme involved the creation of a variety of specialist hardwood furniture in order to utilise the unused public space in front of the shop facades for the public of Bristol to enjoy.Woodscape worked with Macgregor Smith Landscape Architects to realise a design for their street furniture requirements within the scheme. They created a selection of outstanding specialist Naturally Very Durable Hardwood street furniture to bring the retail park’s previously unutilised space to life.Designed and manufactured in Woodscape’s UK workshops in Blackburn, a large Type 2 Curved Bench was created for the space. Additionally, a Type 4 Wall Seat with an organic curve stretching to a 5.61m radius connected to a large planter was designed to allow groups of shoppers to sit together opposite and socialise under an outdoor canopy.Additionally, bespoke rectangular Modular Box Seats, which are open at either side, added a fun and flexible feature to the paved area.

The reception area had to set the tone for the rest of the building so we designed the bespoke Corian reception desk to mirror the angular lines of the unique feature staircases in the building’s central atrium. The new washrooms feature our full height Alto toilet cubicles, specified with a real wood walnut veneer finish. We designed the bespoke white Corian trough-style vanity units with an integral handbag shelf, back-painted glass splashbacks and Tego hinged mirror units. In the basement staff shower and changing area, our SGL Forza lockers provide staff with a durable, secure storage facility.

Washroom's full height Alto toilet cubicles, faced in Formica F6209 Prestige Walnut Laminate, were finished with bespoke architectural pull handles in stainless-steel plus thumbturn mortice locks in the same finish. The shower and changing areas were fitted with bespoke Alto cubicles, large enough to accommodate both a shower and dry changing area. Each cubicle door was faced in FENIX NTM matt laminate in blue and completed with architectural door handles, thumbturn mortice locks and stealth self-closing pivot hinges.

The “Wohnpark in der südlichen Luisenstrasse” residential project was built in Karlsruhe in 2015. At the client’s request, architects AGP Generalplaner GmbH designed the building with enhanced impact sound insulation. Schöck Tronsole® was chosen as the impact sound insulation system for the stairs.Spacious rental and owner-occupied apartments with 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms were designed on a floor area totalling 18,000 m². All of the stairs in the buildings comply with the requirements of soundproofing level III as per VDI 4100 or DEGA class B. Specifically, the measured standard impact sound level of the stairs and landings ranges between 32 dB and 38 dB. These levels are about 10 dB better than the required standard impact sound level of 46 dB. By comparison: A reduction of 10 dB is equivalent to reducing the volume by half. The residents in the complex in Karlsruhe will notice this difference quite clearly. By not being able to impact noise from the stairs. The stairs are soundproofed using Schöck Tronsole® type F on the ceiling slabs while Tronsole® type Z separates the landings from the stairs and outer walls. The supporting element for the Tronsole® type Z was cemented into the 26 cm landing back at the prefabricating plant. Accordingly, the Tronsole® type Z wall element was installed and type F fastened to the landings and stairs on site.

Since 2015 Volvo have been refurbishing their UK showrooms under a masterplan by MEDA Architects who have kindly specified Shiluvit panels. So far LSA Projects have supplied to almost 20 showrooms with many more to come.The specification for the Volvo showrooms is American Red Oak in the 7-501A format which has 20mm wide and 45mm deep blades at 50mm centres. This panel type allows for 60% open area meaning that installations with 20mm of LSA Black acoustic lining achieve acoustic class A; perfect for busy car showrooms and workshops.Each showroom uses Shiluvit panels as a feature above the main reception desk following through above the waiting areas, meeting rooms, and offices. The warmth of the Oak panels makes for a great contrast against the clean white interior of the showrooms.

Planet used p100 demountable double-glazed screens for all the classroom frontages and set black laminated timber classroom doors, and for the offices, 30-minuet fire-rated glass doors into our white aluminium slimline door frames. P20 single-glazed demountable partitioning features in the library and sixth form, which includes a gap between each panel of glass, an aesthetic feature to complement the internal atrium glazing. Eclipse sliding doors were used throughout. Planet's Architectural Glass' in-house design team worked with Aedas to make sure the angled atrium glass was in line with the design intent.

 Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facility that treats all of the residual household waste generated in Essex and Southend. To meet the structural design criteria of the contract, a very strong roof profile was required. To ensure fully effective sealing, this had to be a plain sheet without stiffening ribs. The requirement was met by a specially modified Trisobuild® R60 roof profile in a higher strength steel. The modified Trisobuild® R60 solution spans 2.65m. Tata Steel altered its production tooling to manufacture 26,000m2 of the modified R60 roof profile in double-sided Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra®.Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® was chosen to optimise protection against the corrosive internal environment and external weather side of the bio-stabilisation halls. Super durable Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® provides exceptional corrosion resistance which has been proven in natural and accelerated testing. It includes six wards, a large critical care unit, 16 theatres and a host of clinical services, together with shops and cafes.

‘A little bit extra’, was the concept when creating the beautiful new spa garden at Pennyhill Park; a premium space, set within the luxurious spa grounds where you can switch off from the world and indulge in the very best.  Four Cabanas were key to the design, each providing clients with a private ‘pad’ for the day. The Cabanas had to offer all the benefits of being outside, with the comforts of being inside, allowing guests to enjoy the roll-top spa bath and loungers beneath in a pleasant environment throughout the day.  Our Deluxe Outdoor Living Pod was incorporated by the project designer thanks to its flexibility, in particular the ability to incorporate additional uprights and a wall to the rear and part side where the padded bench, fridge and coffee machine are all incorporated. Each module measured 5m x 4m providing ample space for the facilities within.  The motorised rotating louvered roof of the system allows guests to play with light and shade to create the perfect ambience beneath the structure from sunrise to sunset, whilst the optional integrated screens to the open sides can be deployed as required to provide privacy whilst also offering protection from low sun and even breezes.  Graham Copeman, General Manager at Pennyhill Park commented: “Our cabanas give guests the opportunity to indulge in the best, feel at their best, and relax in style. The ‘Deluxe’ Outdoor Living Pod™ design provides privacy and shade from above and on all sides with remote control blinds, whilst being beautifully adaptable allowing us to build around the space to create the perfect indulgent haven. Our vision was to bring the luxury of a hotel room to the great outdoors, which Caribbean Blinds seamlessly helped us achieve.” Close collaboration with the interior designer and facilities manager throughout ensured a smooth process, with fully detailed CAD drawings provided to ensure a seamless incorporation of the structures into the overall scheme, which was particularly important for the positioning of foundations and services. HLM, the architectural practice had a very high-end, designer lead project at Park Lane London, which required bespoke components mixed together with standard products forming a warrantied bathroom solution for the client. 15 types of different bespoke XPS shower trays were created for this project and used across the 460 rooms spread over 3 phases.240 bespoke XPS niches were installed and in 210 cases substructure sets were used to reach the required 100mm installation height thus allow for a straightforward replacement of old baths with showers without having to modify the existing pipework.In all bathrooms, wedi XPS building boards were used in 12.5mm thickness for walls and 10mm thickness for floors.RESULT: Thanks to the sub-contractor Milk Leisure, an Approved Partner of a leading manufacturer of XPS shower/bathroom systems, the client received a 100% waterproof bathroom with a 15 year manufacturer’s warranty on the whole installation.

After receiving a suite of options from our sales team , the client opted for a hardwood clad door option with powder coated steel frame. The combination of materials sit naturally within the new green space. The bins come complete with an anti-graffiti coating and bespoke designed designation plate to front of bins and bespoke stubber plate to top of general waste bins. The Fuente fountains provide fresh drinking water, an environmentally friendly option for members of the public to fill up their water bottles and save on plastic waste.Elephant and Castle is a central London neighbourhood that has a long and fascinating history dating back as long as the reign of the Roman empire. In recent years, £4bn of public and private money has been invested into the area in a major regeneration project. Together they delivered this stunning building which is to be solely occupied by The Access Group as their Global Head Quarters.Bathgate Flooring were engaged to manufacture, supply and install PSA grade BGM600 steel encapsulated panels throughout to provide the Access Group with Category A finish.Now completed – it will be home to more than a third of the global workforce for this leading technology company.Products UsedThe panels were specified to PSA Standards. The BGM600 Steel Encapsulated panel is medium grade PSA panel which suits most applications. City of London Academy Shoreditch Park by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios forms a part of The Britannia Project, regenerating a thriving London community with new facilities and amenities including new housing, a new school and community leisure facilities. Built to cater for the anticipated expanding population, the new development forms a harmonious addition to the existing neighbourhood with new, high-quality public spaces. The new secondary school for 900 local students plus a 200 student sixth form school had complex underground constraints to take into consideration in the design process, a challenge which informed every part of the building, including the choice of flooring and its installation in the school sports hall. Proposed Crossrail tunnels beneath the building meant the sports floor had to be able to cope with a much larger amount of structural movement than what would be considered normal for a building of this kind. Junckers’ technical department worked closely with the architect exploring a number of options to finally help them arrive at a solution which could accommodate an unusually large amount of structural movement and at the same time retain the sprung quality of the floor for sports and other activities. Junckers Approved Contractor V.A. Hutchison fitted Junckers 22mm solid Ash Champion over New Era battens with 125mm insulation between battens. Line markings for four badminton courts as well as basketball, netball and handball courts ensure the sports hall will serve the school and the wider community as a hub for multiple events and activities. The floor is area elastic and fully complies with EN 14904 class A4, a high-performance sprung floor which will serve the school and community for decades to come. A 22mm Junckers sports floor can be sanded and refinished up to ten times without losing performance, and with regular sandings in 12-year intervals, a lifespan of 60+ years as set out by the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge can easily be achieved. Funding for schools issued by the Department for Education is now dependent on fulfilling strict sustainability criteria. Junckers has independently verified certification to show its flooring fulfils these criteria, In addition to the sports hall, Junckers flooring was specified for the school’s main hall, which is used for drama and other activities. The original specification was for a vinyl floor, but as a more sustainable solution, Junckers’ 22mm Nordic Oak in the Classic grade was selected. V. A. Hutchison Flooring installed the oak floor on New Era battens with 125mm insulation, including an area of 91 m2 of extra battens for support in the main hall. Jo Gimenenz, Architect at FCBStudios added: “We have worked with Junckers for many of our projects, CoLASP being one of the most recent and they always provide an excellent technical service. Particularly so on this project where we had to overcome a complex structural movement joint detail in our ground floor Main Hall, due to proposed Crossrail tunnels beneath the building. A Junckers flooring system was also installed in our Sports Hall. For this space we opted again for a solid timber flooring in lieu of a vinyl topped raised floor as it was a more sustainable solution.”

Berry Systems supplied and installed Internal and external vehicle safety barriers at new Aggreko, Dumbarton plant to protect; doorways, walkways, columns, site and equipment.Aggreko PLC, the world leader in the field of power and temperature control rental, has become the first company in the UK to have Berry Systems’ new Stopbollards installed at its new 170,000 sq ft Dumbarton facility.The many, internal and external vehicle doorways at the brand new Dumbarton site were identified very quickly as needing special protection. Glasgow architects Bradford Robertson considered a number of options before concluding with main contractors, Morgan Sindall, that our SlowStop bollards would prove a cost effective solution. During a collision, the kinetic energy of the impact is progressively absorbed as the post tilts, compressing an elastomeric sleeve within the base. The post is able to tilt from its vertical position to an angle of 20 before it locks within the base. After the impact the post will return back to its vertical position, ready to perform once again.
