Classic singles were used in bathrooms to create more space where the arc of standard hinged doors would have otherwise encroached on the space. This allowed more space for larger shower enclosures and enhanced room layouts. City of London Freemens first opened in Brixton in 1854 for ‘the maintenance and the religious and virtuous education of orphans of Freemen of the City of London’. Paid for by the Corporation of London both boys and girls were enrolled from the outset making it the one of the oldest co-educational independent schools.In 1926 the school moved to Ashtead Park in Surrey. The Grade II* listed Main House at Ashtead Park had been the home of Sir Robert Howard, Chancellor of the Exchequer during the 17th century.In 2016 an ambitious development project was commenced, due to span the next decade. The modernisation of the Main House, now the Sixth Form Centre, involved a redesign of the building and the new layout required fire screens to ensure the building met with current Building Regulations. Clement Windows Group supplied the internal fire rated doors and screens at the top of the adjacent internal stairs which are access controlled and linked into the main fire control of the building.

The new development is the culmination of UCLan’s Masterplan project, launched in 2015, which set out a vision to create a state-of-the-art, sustainable campus for students, staff, visitors and communities for years to come.

The SSE Hydro is the biggest performance arena ever designed by Foster+Partners. One of the main points of access to the venue is across an elevated walkway. Infill panels for the balustrade were supplied by Lang+Fulton, made from Micro-34 architectural grating; the galvanized finish and rectilinear appearance complimenting the surrounding buildings. Continuity throughout the overall project was achieved with a Roma-3 grating fence and entrance gates to secure the northern perimeter of the site. In addition, a series of Roma-3 compounds were designed for the secure storage of Events Catering deliveries.

These are the two eye-catching FalcoCrea cycle lockers Falco manufactured, supplied and installed for NHS Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert, Falkirk, last month. Creating additional cycle parking facilities for visitors, patients and members of staff when travelling to and from the hospital, the two new cycle lockers adds a sixth designated cycle parking zone across the NHS Forth Valley site.The FalcoCrea cycle lockers, purchased in collaboration with Cycling Scotland and Transport Scotland, accommodate up to four bikes each, in a purpose designed cycle locker with integrated cycle rack and secure access. These are the latest cycle hubs designed, manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco for four hospitals on behalf of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, complete with everything a cyclist may need in order to visit each hospital by bike.Wrightington Hospital, Thomas Linacre Centre and Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, all located within Wigan, Greater Manchester, received a bespoke version of the FalcoHub cycle hub, complete with reinforced safety glass cladding, FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle racks, a cycle pump and repair stand, helmet lockers, powder coating and bespoke branding graphics.All 6m x 3m cycle hubs, capable of accommodating 22 bikes each, are clad in toughened safety glass with bespoke NHS branding graphics chosen by the client and the galvanised steel framework has been powder coated in an attractive ‘Fir Green’ RAL colour. BT Bristol features flexible workspaces, the latest IT and smart building technology, restaurants and cafes and a rooftop wildflower meadow terrace with panoramic views of Bristol.An important aspect of the development of this new building was its eco credentials. With the whole company seeking to reduce its carbon emissions, choices were made throughout the design and build process to support this aim. As well as the rooftop meadow, the building features a heating system from the low-carbon district heating network and aspects that encourage employees to make greener choices about their travel to and from work. In order to support this, the BT Bristol office building features parking for around 270 bicycles, as well as changing rooms, showers and lockers.Helmsman were excited to be contacted by Honeyfield Property Services to supply and install the lockers at BT Bristol. The client requested Heated Z Lockers, with hasp locks for the user to attach their own padlock.Heated Lockers are a great addition to a cycle storage area, providing a storage solution that can dry damp clothes as well as keep your items safe during the working day.The Z shape is a particularly good choice for heated lockers, as the user can hang their clothing in the taller area of the locker and let the heated locker do the hard work.Air flows through the locker through a perforated base, and perforations at the top of the locker allow the damp air to escape. The tube heaters are positioned within the stands of the locker and can be either plugged into a 3-pin power socket or wired into a fused switch.In keeping with BT Bristol’s aim for carbon efficiency, the laminate used for the project was Graphite by BioCarbon Laminates. This is one of Helmsman’s standard laminate options, and is a carbon neutral material.In addition to the lockers, we also supplied and installed seat stands, with adjustable feet, and ash hardwood seat slats. Our installers carried out all necessary remedial work to align the Teaching wall electrical access points to the wrongly positioned sockets on the dado trunking.After successful installation of the Teaching Walls, we were informed by Bridglea PRU that children had been climbing up the side of the Teaching Walls by suspending themselves between the Teaching Wall and the classroom wall–in an attempt to get on top of the Teaching Walls and climb inside the cabinets. Boyco supplied & installed bespoke infill boxes to the corner of the necessary Teaching Walls, to prevent pupils being able to gain any access to the roof of the Teaching Walls.

Lend Lease bagged the £70m contract to build an emergency care hospital in East Cramlington. The hospital will be the first in the county to have specialists working around the clock to ensure seriously ill or injured patients get treatment quicker. Alongside the major A&E department, the hospital includes a short-stay paediatric facility and consultant-led maternity unit. Its innovative design includes wards arranged around a central nurses' station, to enable staff to keep a closer eye on patients. Naylor Concrete supplied Hi-Spec R8 and R6 concrete lintels to Specialist Brickwork Contractor P James throughout the construction.

St. Anns, London, new mental health inpatient building Blossom Court is undergoing it’s second phase and specified DVS and Franke products for the project. The unit is due to be completed in Autumn 2002 and aims to replace its old mental health wards with modern, state of the art facilities for patients requiring inpatient care. These are the latest secure bike hangars manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. No timber was allowed as part of the new refurb to conform to FM Global (Airbus Insurers) regarding system fire rating. IKO recommended an overlay on the existing deck, which complied with all the latest British Standards and Regulations. IKO Mach One System was chosen as it provided a flame-free System. Where detailing was difficult IKO Polimar EC/UV System was used. The roof refurbishment also included the installation of smoke vents, associated smoke control panels and accessories.

This is the new sleek and inconspicuous cycle hub recently designed, manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco at Hackney Central Overground Station.Greeting commuters to the west of the station, the 10m cycle hub has been fitted with a combination of both reinforced safety glass and sustainable hardwood cladding.A series of 48 spaces of the FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle rack have been installed along with a FalcoFix 2.0 cycle repair station, LED lighting, CCTV security, branding graphics, a green sedum roof and secure mobile app access. Falco also installed five separate TfL London cycle stands located outside of the cycle hub.The green sedum roof, an increasingly popular feature for Falco shelters, supports the operators sustainable development plan by providing the many advantages associated with green roof systems as well as insulation for both heat and noise. A sedum roof both reduces water discharge as well as compensating for CO2 emissions.The FalcoSmart mobile app access system uses Bluetooth technology to provide Hackney commuters with secure access to the cycle hub using their own smartphone or tablet, removing the need for physical keys and fobs. This is the latest cycle hub designed, manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco, at Guernsey’s largest law firm, Carey Olsen, located in the small town of St Peter Port, on the east coast of the island.Based on the flagship FalcoLok design, the 8m x 4.5m glass clad cycle hub is coupled with the FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle parking system, providing secure parking for up to forty bikes.In addition to the cycle racks, Falco installed four LED vandal proof lighting systems, complete with proximity sensor, along with a maglock featuring the FalcoSmart Bluetooth access system.The new cycle hub makes use of the FalcoSmart app-based locking system, which uses Bluetooth technology to activate the locking mechanism from the users smart phone or tablet, with the benefit that they no longer need to carry keys or fobs. Employees are able to apply for access to the hub via Carey Olsen and having downloaded the ‘App’ are given access rights to the cycle hub for a period of time depending on their requirement.The system has a fully automated back office enabling the administrator to register new locks for new locations as well as adding new users and creating groups and assigning rights. Joining forces with Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd, Team BOYCO supported in transforming the military band practice storage room for the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst. Working with both the customer and contractor we supplied our 'Built to Last' shelving, personal cabinets and cloakroom furniture.All items were crafted to bespoke requirements in our Greater Manchester factory, to accommodate and utilise all available space.Project ScopeSince 1947, The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst has been training Officer Cadets to become Commissioned Officers in the British Army.Located in a 600-acre estate by the border of Berkshire and Surrey, it has an international reputation for 'delivering world-class leadership', and to ensure this premium standard of education was upheld, the need arose for the academy to refurbish its military band practice room and storage area. The BOYCO WayBackgroundProviding both project management and in-house design support, BOYCO worked alongside Willmott Dixon Construction and HLM Architects to refine the needs of the military band storage room. There was a demand for high-quality products that could withstand the rigours of military use, from heavy uniforms to instruments. Team BOYCO was able to meet this requirement thanks to our 'Built to Last' standard, which applies to all our fixed furniture solutions.Quality Bespoke ProductsCatering to the students of the Royal Military Academy, we supplied our floor-fixed benching to the male and female changing rooms, and our double-sided island bench to the male changing rooms. Both sets of cloakroom furniture featured MFC slats, providing comfort and functionality. In our recent steps towards sustainability, the MFC slats on the benching has been sourced from sustainable forests.As per the BOYCO standard, all metal work on the items fitted at the Royal Military Academy are coated in our ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon coating. As well as providing market-leading durability due to it being 4 times thicker than powder coated alternatives, it offers antimicrobial protection. Pioneered by BOYCO, it has been formulated to stop 99% of known bacteria from surviving on its surface, contributing to the health and safety practices of the academy. This finish offers a perfect solution to ensure the utmost cleanliness for the high touchpoint areas being used by military personnel and staff daily.To complement the benching, and the Royal Military Academy's need for a high level of storage, bespoke personal cabinets were also installed. Boasting a unique feel and perfectly tailored to the Academy's needs, the cabinets were specially designed and manufactured with internal fixed shelves and a changing rail for hanging military uniforms. Anthracite grey was opted for due to its uniformity and sleek look, providing a professional finish to the changing rooms.Due to the size of the units being 1.5 m wide x 2.1 m tall, BOYCO prioritised safe practices and customer needs when delivering the fixed furniture. The final weight of the fully constructed furniture was just over 140kg, so all items were assembled on-site.For the instrument storeroom, 4-tier floor and wall-fixed shelving with a steel frame was installed. This provides high levels of support and strength which is essential due to the weight and value of the musical instruments being stored. Project SuccessFollowing the completion of the project, Team BOYCO visited Sandhurst Military Academy. Proud to support a Northwest charity, Team BOYCO were more than happy to help transform the site by donating 90 pegs to accompany the changing and cloakroom furniture.Project ScopeSituated by the idyllic Coniston Water in the Lake District, Lakeland Adventure Centre was founded by the Eric Wright Trust in 1998. Originally a former mansion house, it was purchased by the Trust and converted into an outdoor residential adventure centre focused on supporting young people. They offer activities from water sports to orienteering, providing an outdoor educational experience for students ‘regardless of their financial, social or physical background’. To continue this philosophy, the need arose to refurbish the changing rooms of the adventure centre. The BOYCO WayBackgroundCatering to children and young adults of various ages, the fixed furniture requested had to be durable yet comfortable. Originally, Eric Wright and B&G Sears requested benching only and informed BOYCO that they were going to reuse the original pegs in the refurbishment. Upon hearing this, we wanted to positively contribute to the project and donated 90 of our pegs to the project to accompany the benching.This was not just to provide a professional finish to the changing rooms at Lakeland Adventure Centre; Team BOYCO also wanted to support the trust in providing the fantastic and long-lasting facilities for the young people that visit the centre. Our pegs are ‘unbreakable’, and robust enough even for this busy environment.Along with the pegs, our benching was supplied. This was made to measure to fit the dimensions of the changing rooms and comes with our 10-year guarantee for long-lasting results. Our in-house design team specifically crafted the furniture to be both wall-fixed and have slats in the seating. This is to accommodate potential water from sodden clothing after participating in lake activities. It aids with cleaning too, as underneath the fixed furniture can easily be accessed by members of staff after use.Bespoke ProductsDue to the changing rooms being used by children and young people, all metal work used to manufacture the pegs and benching is coated in with BOYCO-pioneered ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon. This provides 500 x more abrasion resistance than powder-coated paint alternatives and protects against moisture - perfect for Lakeland Adventure Centre where there is potential for the fixed furniture to come into contact with water frequently. This provides long-lasting results, and durability that will withstand daily use by students.In keeping with the natural setting of the Lake District where Lakeland Adventure Centre is located, BOYCO’s ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon coating is also environmentally friendly. It is made from castor oil, a non-toxic, a renewable source that has little to no carbon impact.As per the BOYCO standard, our in-house Timber is twice coated with our Anti-Microbial lacquer. This has been formulated to stop bacteria from surviving on the surface. This is a fantastic addition to the high touch point area of the changing rooms and prevents the spread of harmful diseases. It also complements the cleaning procedures of Lakeland Activity Centre to provide a safe and healthy environment for the young people that use it. Project SuccessFollowing the completion of project, Team BOYCO visited the centre.
