In Clerkenwell, McLaren constructed a new office building with a basement to provide a total 97,000 sq ft of office space. McLaren utilized the existing basement structure which meant the exterior of the structure wasn't accessible. This meant that it was appropriate to use a cavity drain system. FIS worked closely with Henry Construction Projects and Veretec to provide a complete waterproofing service. Designing a system to fit around the existing structure was the challenge. SAS International provided the metal ceiling solution for one of the world’s greatest law firms based in Dublin, Pinsent Masons. White SAS150 was installed in the building’s commercial office space, as the product enables full service accessibility. This is an invaluable factor which futureproofs interiors in times to come. Other SAS products included SAS740, which was placed in meeting rooms to maintain a linear effect throughout the space. Between two of the trendiest parts of London, Farringdon and Clerkenwell, sits 119 Farringdon Road. In the former offices of media giant The Guardian, in a building dubbed The Ray, a newly imagined set of offices is now complete. The Ray is now home to one of the most prevalent business-orientated social media websites in the world, LinkedIn. Walk the surrounding area to find London headquarters of major players such as Tesco, Kurt Geiger and Save the Children UK. In keeping with this, The Ray’s latest update boasts some of the most adventurous bespoke design in recent years.

In this particularly narrow washroom layout, the Unity, full height,inline cubicle design served as a space saver. Accessed with doors on the side, rather than face on, the walls absorb the depth of the cubicle, maintaining a spacious environment. The finished washroom boasted a fresh, contemporary space which met all initial requirements. The client was particularly pleased with “the sleek look of everything”.

Creating highly adaptable working space, Style has installed four Dorma moveable wall systems to the Berkshire offices of a world leading multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company. The semi-automatic partitions can be used to quickly divide a laboratory learning facility as well as office space, creating smaller areas or opening up the area as required. For this high-spec project, Style worked with architects, Perkins and Will, and contractor, Tetris Bluu. Finished in a blue fabric combined with magnetic white boards, the semi-automatic operation walls are both functional and practical.

Sustainable construction was placed at the core of the first Enterprise Zone office development at Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park (LUSEP). Featuring TECHNAL aluminium curtain walling, windows and door systems with the curtain walling extruded using Hydro CIRCAL® 75R contributing to reducing the building's carbon footprint and helped to achieve the BREEAM Very Good rating awarded. This £22 million project begin in February 2019 and comprises of a 7,500 sqm nett area. four-storey building which houses the headquarters for the leading software company, The Access Group. When completed in November 2020, the office development, funded by Leicestershire County Council, is said to be the largest, single-occupier office deal in Leicestershire.The TECHNAL team were approached to offer specification solutions to suit the aesthetics and meet the technical requirements of the project. Designed around a central core with a linking wing either side, aluminium Curtain Walling spans vertically, with the facade also incorporating aluminium casement windows and doors. 

The Government Hub, New Waverley, can be found in Edinburgh’s Old Town. Going up to seven storeys high and nearly 3000 people working within, it is a large and dynamic building.The modern New Waverley Grade A offices are situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, forming part of the World Heritage Zone. Offering 250,000 square feet of space, the office serves as a government hub, housing nearly 3000 civil servants from 11 different departments.ChallengeWith a large amount of employees and visitors needed access to New Waverley’s offices every day for different purposes, it was key for the client to have something in place that could control the flow of authorised users getting in and out. A 1950’s office building has been transformed into a luxury apartment complex with a major refurbishment featuring insulated plasterboard and soffit insulation.

The vibrant, ivory-coloured façade of a new healthcare facility and offices in Cornwall posed no problem for the Renderplas range of coloured PVC external render beads.

For the new office of one of the UK’s leading healthcare specialists, workplace interior design specialists, ID:SR – Sheppard Robson, specified the natural beauty of Forbo Flooring Systems’ Allura Flex Wood Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) to help ‘bring the outside in’.  Occupying the first and second floor of a new seven-storey Grade A office building in Leeds, the healthcare specialist has brought over 250 staff together into one co-located environment. Expertly designed by ID:SR, the 25,000 sq ft space comprises a variety of agile work and social settings to support a range of activities, a dedicated client reception, meeting suite and lounge.   “To support employee wellbeing, the office also engages with the principles of biophilic design, so we incorporated natural looking materials where possible to emphasise the connection between people and nature. The beautiful and realistic wood effect of Forbo’s Allura Flex Wood LVT supported this idea of bringing the outside in. Offering convincing, authentic visuals and excellent functional performance, we used the finish in prominent positions of the office as we felt the flooring supported the overall concept of the scheme.”  Allura Flex Wood in the Weathered Oak colourway was fitted in a herringbone pattern with bursts of Seaweed Solid Oak, Charcoal Solid Oak and Smoke Solid Oak in the main reception and staff breakout areas. Thanks to its tackified installation, the high quality, dimensionally stable Allura Flex tiles provides answers to key issues such as limiting valuable downtime, the re-use of floors and minimising environmental impact, perfect for busy office spaces.  What’s more, Surestep Material in Cool Concrete was specified in the kitchenette of the staff breakout area, where there is an increased risk of slip. The safety flooring combines outstanding slip resistant properties with differentiated design and through the use of Step Crystals, the natural colourway offers a clean, fresh look and improved cleaning and maintenance properties. The PUR Pearl finish ensures that it is stain and chemical resistant.  

Elevating Modern Workspaces.280 High Holborn, a highly specified modern office building developed by Hines in 2011, stands as a beacon of contemporary design and functionality. This commercial space offers a range of amenities and features, including floor-to-ceiling windows, VRF air conditioning, raised floors, and a host of sustainable and user-friendly elements. As part of a broader development vision, 280 High Holborn seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with the historical charm of its surroundings.The ambitious project aimed at creating 100,000 sq ft of commercial office space, six adjacent apartments, and a retail presence in Mid-Town London. The design needed to be flexible, column-free, and capitalize on views over the historic Lincoln’s Inn Fields to the south. The challenge was to seamlessly integrate the building into its urban context while providing a versatile and attractive environment for various uses.The building’s form optimizes its plan to blend with the adjacent townscape, offering an articulated floorplate that supports flexible space planning solutions. The mix of office, residential, and retail spaces necessitated the incorporation of flexible office floorplates that could be easily customized for different needs.In the pursuit of modernity and functionality, our contribution to 280 High Holborn involved the supply of bespoke metal riser doors. Concealed, fire-rated, and designed to be flush with the surroundings, these doors seamlessly integrate into the modern aesthetic of the building. Placed strategically throughout the structure, these doors contribute to the safety of the occupants while maintaining a sleek and unobtrusive appearance.The building’s floorplates offer a ceiling height of 2.7m clear, providing a versatile canvas for both open-plan and cellularized office configurations. Six apartments at the southern end capitalize on views over the Inns of Court, adding a residential component to the development. Additionally, a new civic space at the base of the building enhances engagement with the surrounding community.With a focus on sustainability, 280 High Holborn achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, underlining its commitment to environmental performance and occupant well-being.

The development of 33 King William Street provides 227,000 sq ft of stunning office space and a quarter acre roof top garden. Buzon UK were specified to install the Buzon pedestal system to support Iroko timber decking and a large area of paving to the spacious roof terrace creating a fantastic relaxation space for the office occupants to enjoy. Buzon pedestals are seriously strong, simple to install and are capable of supporting loads of more than 1000kg per pedestal so were the perfect choice of raised floor support system for this complex exterior terrace of contrasting materials.

Restoration was carried out on office building The Garment Factory combining the original building’s key features with contemporary finishes. Because this is a big office building with many tenants, foot traffic was likely to be a common occurrence in the main entrance. To support interior floor surfaces, CS provided the stylish and efficient Pedimat Ultra entrance matting, along with Platinum Exterior Grade Carpet Inserts and Pedimat Ultra Rails (Black Anodised). Pedimat® Ultra has an 11mm slim depth profile and can be fitted in customary matwells as well as alongside floor tiles and carpets to create a flush floor finish.

Developed as three separate buildings, the existing tower is being refurbished as high quality apartments with offices and retail, whilst the podium is being replaced with new offices and roof garden. With a fully glazed lobby, a reduced and rationalized core cased in luscious marble and innovative dark bronze-cased windows which sit in the steel frame. The building will be 80% more energy efficient when complete. Effisus Ecofacade Pre-fab Profiles were used to seal façade connections – not only to protect the building from water damage, but also to improve building airtightness and energy efficiency.

17 Esther Anne Place in Islington, originally a post office building, has been converted into luxury flats and warehouse style apartments. It is a development that builds on the richness and variety of the area, mixing Edwardian flair with modern living. It retains the redbrick facade of the sorting office at ground level, combined with a zinc-clad frame on the upper floors making it an eye catching centre piece to Islington Square. Completed in 2014, the 317,000 sq ft, 18-storey Aldgate Tower is home to some of the “world’s most pioneering companies” including WeWork, Uber and Groupon. Located on the corner of Whitechapel High Street and Commercial Street, Aldgate Tower is no normal office. The 16 floors of Grade A office space above are 100% let to high profile tenants so the entrance must work hard to ensure the reception maintains its aesthetic appeal. Neaco supplied an extensive balustrade specification to help transform a Grade II Listed former Post Office and Telephone Exchange into Grade A contemporary offices in Sheffield. SDA Architects designed the comprehensive internal revamp of the property, built in the 1920s, to create Steel City House comprising 60,000 square feet of prime commercial space across five storeys. Neaco’s structural glass balustrade forms part of the £10m project’s signature feature: a new central atrium which brings natural light into the heart of the building. The roof terrace also features Neaco’s structural glass balustrade.

Number One Valentine Place is a new grade A office building and winner of the 2013 New London Architectural Award for an office building. The external façade of the property features a range of aluminium pressings, glazed in Ultima aluminium insulated panels and Feature Beam, Metalline’s renowned aluminium beam, along with fifty aluminium fins specifically designed to offer solar shading for the building’s south facing position. All pressings and panels were finished in a specialist blue grey anodised finish where Metalline’s superior application and expertise are becoming renowned with architects and contractors throughout the UK.

At two almost-identical, state-of-the-art office buildings in Tel Aviv, an array of Bobrick washroom accessories provide hygienic, economical handwashing and drying solutions.

The heritage property was first built in 1931 as an office building, so the acoustics had to be upgraded during the renovation process without spoiling the character of the original design.

Perforated cladding panels like no other from Proteus Facades have helped to transform a defunct 1980s structure in the heart of London into a visually striking, contemporary commercial office space. Once described as unwelcoming and foreboding, York House in Kings Cross, which dates back to 1981, featured a complex brick façade, with a set back entrance and very small windows giving the building a stand-offish appearance as well as a poorly lit interior.Following a £13 million refurbishment, the building, purchased by The Office Group, which provides flexible workspaces in London, Leeds and Bristol, has been transformed into a bright, co-working space, suitable for London’s thriving and growing businesses.Designed by Architects dMFK, the 70,000sq. ft, eight storey redevelopment features both modern and traditional elements. An original Torigenus cast aluminium sculpture sits on the east side of the building, created by sculptor Geoffrey Clarke, whilst bold new additions include a double height entrance with offices above, as well as a set back roof extension and terrace on the 7th floor.

With the business growing at a rapid rate, the firm has expanded its head office to a purpose-built facility which also incorporates a store, café, and an external garden centre.To make the most of its prominent location at the entrance to the new Seaton Hill development, the building was designed to showcase the brand’s iconic identity. The facade of the offices and warehouse are clad primarily in a palette of blacks and greys using Kingspan Dri-Design Flat Cassettes for the office element and QuadCore AWP Wall Panels for the large retail section. This neutral palette provides the perfect backdrop for more colourful facade elements of royal blue and bright orange which ‘pop out’ from the envelope, both literally and visually. These elements include a ribbon style wrapping which recreates a heart-beat reading and symbolises the HQ’s position as the “heartbeat of Derriford”. This dramatic treatment also helps to break-up the massing of the site.  Selecting all these materials from a single supplier also help to simply logistics, minimise onsite waste and ensure complete compatibility between the elevations.

FORBO FLOORING SYSTEMS’ ALLURA DECIBEL AIDS IN CREATION OF DESTINATION OFFICE After over a decade of operation, 299 Lighting decided it was time to invest in a new office space, creating a destination office for its team of lighting engineers. Tasked with revamping a 90-year-old building for this purpose, interior designers Fable and Form looked to Forbo Flooring Systems’ Allura Decibel and Furniture Linoleum ranges to reduce impact noise, as well as providing a warm and friendly finish throughout the office. A former industrial unit that was converted into a bakery in 1946, Cadena House got its name from the Cadena Cafes brand, and has been used for a variety of purposes over the years. 299 Lighting spotted the potential the old building had and purchased it in December 2020, with the view to renovate it completely, reimagining the space into a new team orientated office.  Sara Barnett, Co-founder and Director at Fable and Form, commented on the design brief she received, saying: “299 Lighting wanted to strip back the building to its shell, with the view to maximise the sustainable solutions that could be added to it. With this in mind, they asked for our help to uncover the full potential of the space, as they realised engaging in the design process early would mean their imaginations could be successfully realised.  “When looking at the aesthetic requirements of the design, we took inspiration from 299 Lighting’s branding; balancing the bold and fresh company brand, with the nurturing and supportive attributes of the co-founders. This helped to create an environment which is truly unique and innovative – just like them!” The wellbeing of staff was also paramount to 299 Lighting. With this in mind, Fable and Form’s design team looked for materials that would fit the stripped back feel of the space, whilst also contributing to the biophilic design. Stevie Cleverly, Co-Founder and Director at Fable and Form explained further: “With the aim to create a sustainable and healthy space for 299 Lighting’s employees, it was important that we carefully selected the materials we used in this project. It was for this reason that we specified Forbo’s Allura Decibel Luxury Vinyl Tiles.” A unique proposition in the market, Forbo’s updated Allura Decibel collection meets the demand for stylish, luxury acoustic floor coverings no matter what the application area. Offering 19 dB impact sound reduction, the collection is available in 49 contemporary colourways, which are split between the following ranges: woods, and stones and materials. Stevie continued: “We specified Allura Decibel in a contemporary concrete colourway across the entire first floor for continuity. This decor was in keeping with the building’s original materials and matched the concrete ceilings, which were shot blasted to its original look. Not only this, but with a 19 dB impact sound reduction, unnecessary noise could be reduced in the office, helping to create a better space to work in. “In keeping with our sustainable design principles, we also included Forbo’s Furniture Linoleum into the meeting tables and breakout furniture, providing a warmer and more tactile finish to touch points.”  Forbo’s Furniture Linoleum is a natural surfacing material and has recently been confirmed to be climate positive (cradle to gate) without offsetting. An extruded aluminium baffle system was showcased in the UK for the first time, thanks to Hunter Douglas Architectural’s involvement in the refurbishment of a key Canary Wharf office building in London. 

When the refurbishment programme for an office block close to London’s Euston station was hit by an unexpected snag, the main contractors found an effective solution to keep the project on track.

Located on the first floor, above an office space, Brigade strives to be a good neighbour and ensure that the exercises in the fitness classes do not cause noise disturbance to the space below.

Polar double-glazed partitions provided the ideal solution for dividing space in a clever and minimalistic way. The double glazed Polar partitions have impressive acoustic thresholds of up to 49dB (Rw), which is becoming more and more essential in today’s working environment. Providing opportunity for both communicative and inspired work, Polar double glazed’s simplistic method of installation, demountability and powerful acoustic properties makes it an intelligent option for modern offices. Due to Robinson Structures engineering expertise, steel girders were built above and around the Polar single glazed track work to create smaller offices and meeting rooms.

SAS International designed and supplied metal ceiling products to the beautiful offices of Allied Irish Bank, Molesworth Street. Collaborating with RKD Architects & StructureTone, a range of systems including SAS130, SAS330 triangular fused mesh panels, SAS330 planks and SAS Tee Grid were supplied to accommodate the office area, boardroom and communal areas. SAS130 Mesh was chosen for its aesthetic and Class A acoustic absorption capability, enhancing a productive working atmosphere ideal for an open plan space. To overcome a specific challenge with the breakout area on the project, the SAS330 triangular suspended mesh panels were manufactured with a fused edge detail.

The Television Centre transforms the existing BBC Television centre into a mixed-use development that combines office/studio space for the BBC, entertainment and leisure facilities, housing, a hotel and office space, alongside public open spaces. Working with Gillespies and Maylim, we were commissioned to supply and install Cumaru benches and seating areas with bespoke metal work including hand rails and arm rests (designed by our in-house team) to the refurbished Helios Plaza area. In the famous external forecourt, perfectly spaced FSC Cumaru cladded doors were installed to the services/access and general storage area, for a seamless look.

We’ve created a striking new reception area plus contemporary monochrome superloos and a cycle change area as part of an office refurbishment. Each self-contained superloo cubicle contains a toilet and wall-mounted vanity unit, with the full height Alto toilet cubicle doors providing complete privacy for office staff. Manufactured in white high pressure laminate, the toilet cubicle doors were completed with matching Corian solid surface edging and black ironmongery to match the rest of the black washroom accessories. Washroom also delivered toughened low iron glass back-painted wall panelling for each toilet cubicle.

Washroom installed new staff shower and changing facilities as part of a new cycle centre for a co-working office space. Washroom's highly engineered Marcato cubicles, which feature rebated vertical edges to create flush fascias for a sleek appearance, were manufactured full height and finished with FENIX laminate in black. With a host of benefits including being anti-fingerprint, hydro-repellent and resistant to scratches, Marcato FENIX cubicles make the perfect choice for a staff shower and changing facility in a busy office setting. Each cubicle was designed with a shower separated from the dry changing area behind a glass screen.
