For renovating original vertical sliding single glazed sashes.
Ventrolla Renovated Sash Windows are a sustainable and cost-effective solution for restoring the beauty, functionality, and energy efficiency of existing sash windows. Designed to retain the original charm of period properties while incorporating advanced performance enhancements, Ventrolla’s renovation services are ideal for listed buildings, conservation areas, and heritage restorations. Each renovation is tailored to the specific needs of the property, ensuring long-lasting results and compliance with modern standards.
Industry-leading wooden window repairs:
Preserving the unique heritage and charm of period timber windows really is a priority to us, and with the right care and attention, original timber window frames can provide a lifetime of enjoyment. So, where possible, we will always suggest renovation over replacement via our tried and tested Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS), while expertly repairing and replacing rotten sections with ease and finesse.
So, if your project has original timber windows that are draughty, rattling, or inefficient, we're sure our industry-leading window renovation services can help bring timber windows back to life. After all, there’s no denying that timeless timber window frames play a crucial role in defining the character of period building facades and their interiors – so why should you or your client’s property be any different?
Ventrolla offer a sash window renovation service that negates the need to fully replace existing timber sash windows. This process involved renovating the existing windows and then installing Ventrolla's unique Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS) to eliminate draughts, and improving efficiency, so that all the charm and original character of sash windows can be retained.
Traditionally, a sash window requires a 3 mm gap around the sashes for functionality. Inevitably, this gap allows in draughts, dust and noise and is the source of annoying rattles. The installation into each window of the patented Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS) seals this gap and actually improves on the original by:
All work is done from inside the building meaning so scaffolding is not always required – speak to our team to find out more. Windows are always left secure and weatherproof overnight.
Renovation and performance upgrade service:
Staff beads, parting beads and sash cords removed and discarded.
Sashes are eased by removing excess paint build-up, released and brought into the building.
Adjustments made to ensure minimum 3 mm gap between upper sash face and parting bead face.
Mid rail and lower rail of bottom sash routed to profile of pile carrier.
Pile carriers are fitted into the mid and bottom rails of the lower sash and the new staff beads.
Where specified, Ventrolla Sash Removal System (SRS) is fitted - sash cord brake and detachable sash cord holder threaded onto each new sash cord. Sash edges are routed to allow mounting of invisible SRS.
Ventrolla parting bead is snapped into the new U Section installed into the existing parting bead groove.
Weatherfin pile weather-stripping (draught-proofing) size is expertly selected and inserted as appropriate to the width of the gaps to be sealed.
Sash weights are adjusted to balance sashes.
Sashes are re-hung and checked to ensure easy sliding.
New staff beads mitred, or butt jointed, and fitted by pinning brass screw and cup or easy release clips.
Exposed bare wood is painted with white acrylic primer to BS 5082.
Ventrolla Perimeter Sealing System (VPSS):
Includes unique VPSS draught proofing system. The system is fitted by routing grooves into the mid-rail and bottom-rail of the sashes, or within the inner edges of casement windows, to which a pile carrier is fitted and the appropriate size of weatherfin pile installed. New parting beads and staff beads are fitted that also incorporate the weatherfin pile, creating a fully draught-proofed window.
Perimeter sealing system performance:
Air permeability: to BS EN 12207 Class 3 and BS 6375: 1-2009 (600 Pa) to withstand 71 mph winds, independently assessed by the British Board of Agrément (test report number 2756).
Draught strips: tested to BS 7386.
Sound insulation: independently tested and proven to fall within the 6–10 dB noise reduction range. Performance verified by Hanns Tucker Acoustic Engineers.
Ventrolla Wood Repair:
Ventrolla wood repairs are undertaken using Ventrolla VR90, formulated to give long-lasting wood repairs beyond those normally carried out using conventional polyester wood fillers. VR90 is a patented two-part resin system and is designed to be used to impart the original strength to sash tenon joints, fill large cavities in sills and act as a powerful adhesive. It completely bonds with the parent wood and flexes when the wood contracts or expands. To achieve this bond, all decayed wood is removed exposing only sound wood. This is then stabilised using VR90 WS solution which penetrates the wood fibres to attain the permanent anchorage for the subsequently applied VR90 filler.
Seal Shuts:
Windows can be sealed shut internally and externally with the Ventrolla Sealing and Pointing system VS10.
If required, purpose made vacuum or double glazed sashes can be added to original frames if required, giving a vacuum or double glazed solution without major disruption to the property.
Construction:
The sashes are manufactured using traditional carpentry methods. Double glazed units include ‘through solid’ glazing bars, which help to retain the windows authentic feel and look. Another main feature of the slim glazing unit is the reduced sightline of the spacer bar between the two panes of glass.
Vacuum glazed windows use the latest glazing technology to upgrade timber sash windows with enhanced energy efficiency. Applied glazing bars ensure an authentic look whilst enabling the delivery of a low U-Value.
