Application

Suitable for ground and first floor applications. Traditionally used for low level glazing only., which can accept glass, panels and other opening sections e.g. doors or windows.

Description

Primarily developed for ground and first floor applications, but may be installed at any level on a building provided the maximum height of each screen does not exceed 6 m, and subject to the structural sections being designed to accommodate the applicable loads in accordance with the relevant site conditions and application.


Features and benefits:

  • Thermal: Metal Technology’s Curtain Walling Range, in conjunction with the correct glass specification, is designed to aid compliance with the latest thermal requirements of the current building regulations. The thermal isolator profile has been specifically designed to minimise heat transfer across the mullion and transom.
  • Weathertightness: Class III to BS 6375-1:1989 and BS 5368.
  • Design Wind Pressure: To be in accordance with BS 6399-2:1997.
  • Deflection: All structural profiles can be designed so that maximum deflection of any member shall not exceed L/200 of its span, with no evidence of any permanent deformation once the load has been removed.
  • The full range of Metal Technology Ltd’s windows and doors can be incorporated into the system.
  • Glazing: The system is externally glazed and can accommodate glazing units from 6 mm to 36 mm.
  • Dry glazed using proprietary, high performance captive gaskets. All gaskets to be bonded and sealed during construction, using waterproof adhesive.


Construction:

Fabricate the system in ladder modules using a two-piece mullion assembly snapped together on site. Square cut the frame members and fix securely to the frame with stainless steel screws driven into integral screw ports within the sections. Seal all frame joints during construction against entry of water using a small gap sealant with glazing tape applied over the front face of each joint. The manufacturer recommends that only A2 or A4 austenitic stainless steel fixing screws are used in the assembly of their products.

 

Carefully designed fixing brackets have been developed for System 8 to allow a secure and simple fix so that all loads can be transferred back to the building’s main structural form with ease.
