A sustainable acoustic treatment made from fire-treated recycled newspapers and other renewable materials such as cotton and hemp.
Typical applications:
SonaSpray acoustic spray is an excellent sound absorber for any indoor space with a noise problem. SonaSpray acoustic spray can be quickly and effectively applied to most prepared surfaces and construction configurations. This allows minimum working down time in existing structures with abilities to meet critical deadlines in new construction.
Due to its seamless versatility, SonaSpray can be used in a wide range of settings:
SonaSpray noise reduction sprays are designed for ceilings and walls above two metres.
Please note: It is important not to use moisture-resistant plasterboard, as this can cause staining of wet-applied products. Stain barrier primers and paints can be used to prevent this. Please consult Oscar Acoustics for more information on mail@oscar-acoustics.co.uk
When using plasterboard as the substrate, a minimum of 12.5 mm thick plasterboard, installed to British Gypsum specification should be used.
Bonding to substrate
SonaSpray can be applied to virtually any substrate. Some surfaces may need priming to control suction. Old surfaces or boards with high recycled content, may need a stain barrier coating to prevent contaminants from leaching out of whilst the surface is wet. Fully cured SonaSpray can not only improve the architectural acoustics but improve the strength of the substrate.
Durability
The water-based adhesive used with SonaSpray sound absorber provides a strong, durable and resilient bond. Fully cured SonaSpray can not only improve the architectural acoustics but improve the strength of the substrate.
Please consult Oscar Acoustics for relevant acoustic spray preparation details.
ISO 9001
The SonaSpray range is manufactured by International Cellulose Corporation (ICC) to the ISO 9001 quality management standard.
Quality assurance
From specification to installation, everything is kept in-house. Oscar Acoustics has created its own purpose-built training facility. The ‘SonaSpray Training Academy’ provides a controlled environment for our teams to build their skills with the Head of Quality Control. This ensures a high-quality and long lasting acoustic finish every time.
Maintenance
SonaSpray acoustic spray can be over-painted or applied with additional coats of SonaSpray. Small areas of damage can be repaired by hand. Maintenance of SonaSpray is minimal.
If SonaSpray is disturbed or damaged so that fibre is released into the atmosphere
SonaSpray Eco+ is an acoustic spray finish manufactured from recycled newspapers and other renewable materials. Engineered for high-performance sound absorption, SonaSpray Eco+ combines sustainability with acoustic properties, providing effective noise reduction across commercial and public spaces.
SonaSpray Eco+ has a naturally varied grey colour, influenced by the original print content of the recycled newspapers. The texture and appearance vary according to the number of recycling cycles the source materials have undergone, resulting in a distinctive surface finish on each application.
The SonaSpray Eco+ finish is closest to SonaSpray K-13 Special.
If you’re looking for a more uniform appearance, Oscar Acoustics recommend exploring other products its SonaSpray range for greater consistency.
SonaSpray Eco+ is suitable for ceilings and walls, delivering an acoustic solution that aligns with leading environmental building practices.
Features and benefits:
Fire rating:
B-s1,d0 and Class 0 to BS 476 - significantly betters the requirements of the new Approved Document B, providing little to no smoke and no droplets, assisting in the safe escape of occupants.
Full fire reports available for download.
Important: Always insist on obtaining a copy of the fire test report before using a product.
Emissions:
Environmental standards:
Embodied carbon:
Can effectively lower the carbon footprint of a building project by sequestering rich stores of carbon for the life of the structure or application.
Flangeless fittings:
90% of flangeless fittings do not work properly with any acoustic finish. If you are specifying a flangeless fitting, please contact Oscar Acoustics for advice.
Sound absorption:
SonaSpray can achieve any class as the acoustic performance can be adjusted by increasing and decreasing the material depth to suit the acoustic requirement and budget.
Please contact Oscar Acoustics’ technical department for free assistance.
Acoustic testing has been carried out against concrete. Substrates likely to provide increased performance include plasterboard with the use of an air gap behind, rib deck or profiled metal sheet. Please contact Oscar Acoustics’ technical department for free design assistance.
Recycled content
Recycled content values for SonaSpray fibres (excludes water-based adhesive): Pre-Consumer recycled content: Minimum 80%
Recycled content values as installed (consisting of both fibres and water-based adhesive): Pre-Consumer recycled content: Minimum 50%
Recyclability
SonaSpray is a permanently installed interior finish material that is designed for the useful life of a building project. At the end of its useful life, the material may be removed and repurposed into thermal cavity fill insulation or for other recycling applications.
Future reconstruction of buildings may require the removal of SonaSpray. It can be recycled or disposed of as a non-special waste and your local authority environmental department will give advice on recycling.
Take back scheme
Oscar Acoustics can take SonaSpray back and have it milled into thermal cavity fill.
