Application

RockFace A2 SL can be mechanically fastened to:

  • The underside of a profiled steel, flat steel or concrete soffit on buildings over 18 m providing the structure meets the performance requirements of BS 9991:2015, Approved Documents B and BS 8759:2020.
  • Timber battens on buildings under 18 m providing the structure meets the performance requirements of BS9991:2015, Approved Documents B and BS 8759:2020.

Description

ProTherm RockFace A2 SL is a non-combustible soffit insulation board designed to insulate semi exposed concrete soffits.

Features and benefits:

  • Classified Euroclass A2-s1,d0 to BS EN 13501-1:2018 by WarringtonFire under classification report no. 19808F dated 10/10/2019.
  • Manufactured with non-combustible stone wool it will not develop smoke or promote flame spread, even when directly exposed to fire.
  • The stonewool is factory laminated to a 6 mm thick weather resistant high impact facing board.
  • As an example of thermal performance 0.025 W/m² K can be achieved if a 136 mm (O/A) panel is fixed to a 150 mm dense concrete slab in a semi-exposed application.
  • Available in a range of thicknesses.
  • Available in a range of thicknesses, see declared performance table for available thickness.
  • ProTherm RockFace A2 SL has a Zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), a Global Warming Potential (GWP).
  • Certificates: ISO 9001@2008 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 :2004 Environmental Management System, EPD as per ISO 14025 and EN 15804.

Guidance for specification option:

RockFace A2 SL should be attached with non-combustible fasteners and washers appropriate to the type of substrate being fastened into. Fixing washers should be a minimum 45 mm diameter. Fasteners and washers should be installed so as to prevent RockFace A2 SL panels becoming dislodged by wind or maintenance work. Consult your chosen fixing supplier for recommendations.

When fixing directly to a steel or concrete soffit RockFace A2 SL boards fasteners should be positioned a minimum of 50 mm in from the edges of the board, at 450 mm centres across the width and at 500 mm centres along the length (achieving 8 fasteners per board).

The minimum penetration of the fasteners into the substrate must comply with the fastener manufacturer recommendations. A space of 0.5 to 2 mm should be left between each board to allow for thermal expansion.

Where an uneven surface exists or there are services, and subject to the balconies not being on a building over 18 m in height, timber battens may be used. Minimum 50 x 25 mm treated timber battens should installed 75mm in from all boards edges with additional cross battens positioned to allow the for central zone fixings at 450 mm centres across the width and at 500 mm centres along the

length (achieving 8 fasteners per board). A space of 0.5 to 2 mm should be left between each board to allow for thermal expansion.

At perimeters the RockFace A2 SL must either abut a vertical surface (a space of 0.5 to 2 mm should be left between each board to allow for thermal expansion) or be closed off with a suitable cover flashing.
