Application

Product Application – Primer IM

Substrate Preparation

  • Substrates must be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from dust, laitance, grease, oil, algae, loose particles or any contaminants that may impair adhesion.
  • Remove loose or friable material by brushing or suitable mechanical preparation.
  • Repair cracks or defects prior to application where required.
  • Ensure surfaces are dry and protected from rain or frost prior to application.

Application Conditions

  • Apply at substrate and ambient temperatures of +5°C and rising.
  • Do not apply during rainfall, fog, frost or where these conditions are expected before the product has dried.
  • Avoid application in direct intense sunlight or on overheated substrates.

Application Method

  • Stir thoroughly before use.
  • Apply by roller, brush or suitable low-pressure spray equipment.
  • Apply evenly to achieve full surface coverage without ponding.
  • Allow to penetrate into the substrate; do not allow excessive surface build-up.
  • One coat is normally sufficient; highly absorbent surfaces may require additional application.

Primer IM functions by deep penetration and consolidation of the mineral substrate, forming a stable and uniform base for subsequent waterborne dispersion coatings.

Drying and Overcoating

  • Allow to dry fully before application of subsequent coatings.
  • Drying time will vary depending on substrate type, temperature, humidity and ventilation.
  • Ensure the surface is visibly dry and consolidated before applying Passive Purple®, Airtight White® or Passive Purple® External.

Cleaning

  • Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with clean water.
  • Remove cured material mechanically

Description

Primer IM – Consolidating Micro-Emulsion Primer for Dense Substrates

Product Description

Primer IM is a waterborne, micro-emulsion primer designed for use on mineral substrates prior to the application of waterborne dispersion coatings.

Formulated with ultra-fine molecular particles, Primer IM penetrates deeply into mineral substrates, where it acts both as a consolidant and adhesion-promoting primer. It is particularly suited to aged or weathered surfaces requiring stabilisation before overcoating.

Primer IM is used as:

  • A pre-treatment prior to installation of Passive Purple® External
  • A post-treatment consolidating primer following installation of Passive Purple®, Airtight White® and Passive Purple® External, where required

Its micro-emulsion formulation enables deep substrate penetration, improving surface integrity while providing an ideal base for subsequent coating systems.

Suitable Substrates

  • Concrete
  • Lime render (including aged lime)
  • Mineral renders
  • Calcium silicate stone
  • Concrete brick

Primer IM is particularly suitable for refurbishment and retrofit projects, especially on older buildings where consolidation of existing mineral surfaces is required before coating application.

Performance Characteristics

  • Deep penetration through micro-emulsion technology
  • Consolidates friable or weathered mineral substrates
  • Improves adhesion of subsequent waterborne coatings
  • High vapour permeability
  • Accommodates subtle substrate movement without cracking
  • Compatible with high-elongation air and vapour control membranes
  • Suitable for both internal and external applications
  • Ideal for buildings subject to natural movement

Features and Benefits

  • Specifically formulated to enhance coating adhesion on difficult or aged substrates
  • Reduces risk of surface defects in subsequent applications
  • Waterborne formulation
  • Application temperature: +5°C and above
  • Supplied in 10L containers
  • Shelf life: 12 months (unopened and correctly stored)
