Application

The MF fire-rated suspended ceiling is suitable for commercial and residential projects.

Metal furring (MF) 60-minute fire-rated suspended ceiling system.

Suspension grid

Knauf 25 x 25 mm Angle Section at 1200 mm centres secured with Knauf Cleats with Knauf MF Nuts and Bolts or other suitable fixing to match requirements.

Knauf drywall screws.

Fixed at maximum 230 mm centres, reduce to 150 mm centres at perimeter and boards short edges.

Knauf Performance Plus screws.

To be used with Knauf Soundshield Plus/ Performance Plus. Fixings at the perimeter to be maximum 15 mm from edge of system.

Joint treatment

Paper jointing tapes.

Finish

  • Tape and jointing: Both layers of board must be taped and jointed to maintain fire rating. 
  • Finish using Knauf jointing products. 
  • One coat of Knauf Wallboard Primer applied immediately after taping and jointing
  • Use Knauf Paper Tape only for the installation of ceilings. 
  • Or option to use Knauf RMF (Ready Mixed Finishing).

Knauf MF Primary Support Channels to be located at 1200 mm centres.

Knauf MF Ceiling Channels to be located at 450 / 400 mm centres.

Connecting clips

Manufacturer's standard.

Knauf MF connecting clips to be fixed at intersection between Knauf MF primary support channel and Knauf MF ceiling channels.

Secondary Fixing

Manufacturer's standard.

Additional, secondary fix Knauf MF Ceiling Channels to Knauf MF Primary Support Channels using Knauf Waferhead Screws.

Fixing substrate

Fixings are used to meet performance constraint and should be agreed with the site team

(Confirmation is required from supplier to meets ceiling specification and any additional loading).

Knauf MF Perimeter Channel to be mechanically fixed as per fire test.

Horizontal board joints

To be picked up Knauf MF ceiling channels.

All board joints must overlap by minimum 450 mm to ensure performance is maintained.

Perimeter Sealing

Manufacturer's standard.

For fire rated systems, Knauf Intumescent and Acoustic Mastic must be installed between the edges of both layers of board and the abutting structure.

Loading

Ceiling Loadings: The MF system has been designed based on 'self-weight' only basis, confirmation of any additional loadings would be required to ensure system performance.

Finishing plaster

Skim Plastering: Knauf Betokontakt must be used in conjunction with Knauf Performance Plus, when skim coat plaster is being used.

Abutments

Fire Rated Abutments: If the MF ceiling is abutting a partition with a lower fire rating, the principle designer must ensure that the performance of this element does not compromise the fire performance of the ceiling by creating a potential compartmentation issue.
