Application

Suitable for single-story applications to mid-rise construction.

Description

Raico Therm+ curtain walling systems with 70mm Kalwall panels give you all the features and benefits of a Kalwall panel with the added benefits of a German engineered stick curtain wall system.

The Raico Therm+ curtain walling system is available in aluminium, timber and steel, or a combination of any of these. There is a choice of 50 mm, 56 mm and 76 mm sight-line widths. NB: Aluminium is only available in 50 mm and 56 mm. All other frames are available in all three sight-lines.

Kalwall panels are a highly insulating, diffuse light-transmitting building panel system. These structural sandwich panels are formed by permanently bonding two specially formulated translucent Fibreglass Reinforced Polymer (FRP) faces to a Grid Core constructed of interlocking aluminium or thermally-broken composite I beams.

Panels are factory prefabricated to the exact size and configuration for each project. Utilising either light-transmitting fibreglass ‘batts’ or aerogel as Translucent Insulation (TI), insulated panels can achieve a maximum of 0.28 W/m²K.

Kalwall panel standards widths are 1224 mm (4ft), 1520 mm (5ft) Maximum width is 1520 mm (5ft). Panel lengths between 914 mm and 6096 mm. Note: please check spans with Structura UK Ltd.

As a whole, Raico Therm+ curtain walling systems with Kalwall panels, create a highly adaptable, progressive stick curtain wall façade which can achieve Passivhaus performance standards. This system helps you, the architect, seamlessly transition between vision glass, operable windows, doors and can even support signage or Brise Soleil systems; effectively treating a Kalwall panel as if it were a double glazed unit into a curtain wall façade.

Features and benefits:

  • Kalwall’s composition combines to reduce solar gain while maximizing thermal insulation.
  • Kalwall panels diffuse light efficiently - direct sunlight is converted into even illumination with whilst eliminating glare and hot spots.
  • The panels can be selected to transmit various percentages of light according to individual project requirements.
  • Kalwall has been tested according to EN 13830:2003.
  • Aluminium or thermally-broken Grid Core composed of a series of interlocking I-beams.
  • Interior and Exterior shatterproof FRP faces are formulated to meet flame, and smoke requirements of the toughest international codes.
  • Translucent Insulation options, including Cabot’s Lumira® aerogel offer exceptional thermal properties.
  • Colour stable FRP face sheets with a permanent glass veil erosion barrier to eliminate fibre bloom.
  • The shatterproof, super-weathering FRP face will withstand a 70 ft-lbs (95 J) impact. Optional high impact FRP faces will withstand 230 ft-lbs (312 J) impact by UL 972; also rated for windborne debris protection up to large missile D.
  • Complimentary daylighting analysis available, consult the manufacturer for details.

Kalwall is not a glazing panel but rather a structural sandwich panel with outstanding load capacity and structural integrity that polycarbonate systems and insulated glass units (IGU) simply cannot match.

With a high strength-to-weight ratio, Kalwall panels are both strong and lightweight. This makes the installation process easier and reduces extraneous structural support framing, saving both time and money. All Kalwall systems are very low maintenance. The panel’s FRP faces have self cleaning properties, are resistant to dirt and particulate build-up, and can handle harsh chemical and environmental exposure.

The panels block harmful UV-A and UV-B rays while transmitting the full spectrum of visible light for perfect colour rendition within interiors. With a wide range of translucent insulation options, Kalwall’s thermal performance reduces HVAC heating and cooling loads while harvesting daylight to cut artificial lighting usage.

Fibreglass Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Faces:

Kalwall has developed a full line of high performance FRP face sheets including the latest generation of Super Weathering (SW) formulations that are unrivalled in the industry. Along with a variety of high performance options, Kalwall offers both standard and optional colours and finishes in order to provide designers with more flexibility. Translucent White and Crystal FRP face sheets are standard. The four Kal-tints are optional. Optional FRP finishes are available for interior face sheets only.

Kalwall has a design life of 25 years with minimal maintenance. Made from Aluminium and FRP it is chemical and rot resistant. UV stable to full body depth, it will not yellow. The FRP facesheets are also engineered to incorporate a glass erosion barrier, preventing fibre bloom. The Aluminium frame is easily recycled, the FRP sheets can be separated and ground to a powder and added back into GRP production.
