Application

The Aquacell G Series can be incorporated into residential apartment buildings, commercial office towers and more.

The Aquacell G Series provides a simple modular solution for on site greywater recycling. The system features a controlled, robust and comprehensive treatment process that combines physical, microbiological and oxidative treatments in one efficient package.

The treated greywater can then be reused for non-drinking applications such as toilet flushing, cooling towers, irrigation and more.

Description

Greywater can come from our showers, baths, basins and washing machines. It may be contaminated with a range of soluble and insoluble (particulate) substances like soaps, detergents, skin, saliva, dirt and lint. Each type of contaminant must be treated appropriately, whether it is detergent/surfactant, organic, microbial or particulate. Aquacell G Series has been designed with a multi-barrier approach and combines a range of purifying processes to remove all contaminants, making the greywater ready to use again.

Features and benefits:

  • Greywater makes up about 30 to 50 per cent of wastewater. Aquacell’s greywater systems help you re-use it.
  • The Aquacell G Series offers high recovery rates with no backwashing, negligible residue and low energy usage.

General

Remote monitoring and data acquisition system.

Guidance for specification option:

The plant monitors the following parameters and uses controls to ensure reliable and safe recycled water supply is available at all times:

  • Buffer and MBR tank levels via analogue level sensors.
  • Recycled water storage tank level via analogue sensors.
  • High-level alarms.
  • Flow.
  • Level sensors.
  • Pumps on/off.
  • Blowers on/off.
  • Filtration.
  • Aeration cycle.
  • UV reactor on/off, lamp alarms, UVI and UVT.
  • Online DOx monitoring.
  • Online turbidity monitoring.
  • Online pH monitoring of influent and treated water.
  • Online free chlorine monitoring.
  • Online conductivity monitoring.

Manufacturer guidance

To monitor all process variables and critical control points. Includes ethernet-based human interface with real-time remote operation and control via web-connected PC, trending and alarming function systems via email.

Visual indicators

Touch screen on the face of the panel provides a visible display of plant status, motor manual/off/auto, critical control point status.

Manufacturer guidance

A touch screen on the face of the panel provides a visible display of plant status, motor manual/off/auto, critical control point status. The plant operates via the touchscreen interface without remote operation in the event of communications failure.

Control functions

Tanks

Manufacturer's choice.

Guidance for specification option:

Pump station and greywater buffer tank.

Manufacturer guidance

Untreated greywater will gravitate along the dedicated collection network to a pump station which will be located on the basement level, from here it will then be pumped on demand into a buffer tank.

Tank ancillaries

Back flow prevention: supplied by others.

Biological treatment

Aerobic biological treatment.

Manufacturer guidance

Air is diffused into the wastewater to create aerobic conditions where a biomass will grow in both aerobic and anoxic zones.

Disinfection

Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection.

Guidance for specification option:

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation system to US EPA standards with UVI and UVT monitor and chlorination system.

Manufacturer guidance

Alarms in the UV system (lamp needing clean, lamp deterioration, lamp end of life, reduced UV transmissivity) are detected by the photo intensity monitor, which transmits information to the remote monitoring system. This ensures appropriate UV dose at all times.

Chemical treatment

Manufacturer's choice.

Equipment skids

1.4307 Grade (304L) stainless steel.

Pipes

Collection and distribution pipelines: Supplied by others.

Collection tank

Pump station and greywater buffer tank.

Manufacturer guidance

Untreated greywater will gravitate along the dedicated collection network to a pump station which will be located on the basement level, from here it will then be pumped on demand into a buffer tank.

Storage

Treated water storage tank.

Pump

Submersible pumps.

Guidance for specification option:

Pumps within the buffer tank will transfer screened wastewater to the Aquacell greywater treatment system.

Filter

Buffer tank: Screen filter.

Guidance for specification option:

Course filter.

The pump station will feed the buffer tank via a screen to remove non-biodegradable solids from the influent.

Membrane tank: Hollow-fibre ultrafiltration membrane with pulse air scour clean-in-place system.

Guidance for specification option:

Fine filter.

  • Minimum nominal pore size of 0.05 μm.
  • Air-scour using fine bubble diffusers is not permissible.
  • The use of flat-sheet membranes is not permissible.

Ventilation

Vent to stack (supplied by others).
Odour control mechanical ventilation (supplied by others).

Identification

Pipework: Colour-coded and labelled to BS 1710.Recycled water meter and tap handles: Coloured and/ or appropriately labelled.

Manufacturer guidance

  • Signs indicating the use of recycled (non-potable) water are mandatory.
  • Pipes will be colour coded in accordance with local Plumbing Codes.
  • Appropriate safety signs near the location of the treatment system are mandatory.
  • All recycled water taps should have a warning sign – “Not for Drinking”.

Testing

Testing and setting to work: Commissioning of the plant to CIBSE standards. Performance testing of the plant via laboratory analysis in accordance with issued approval.
Documentation: Operation and maintenance manual.
Servicing and maintenance: Undertake for 12 months after completion.

Manufacturer guidance

The operation and maintenance manual includes as a minimum:

  • Operator responsibilities and duties.
  • Records system.
  • Sampling and testing.
  • Workplace health and safety.
  • Utilities details.
  • Electrical systems.
  • Process description, operation and control.
  • Residuals management.
  • Maintenance - service visits, frequency and tasks.
  • Phone assistance and support.
