Application

Resin bound paving is suitable for domestic, commercial, or industrial use, including:

  • Driveways, shared access roads, and communal parking
  • Pathways, footpaths, and pedestrianised areas
  • Public areas such as parks, heritage sites, and leisure facilities
  • Vehicular areas such as shopping, leisure, and city centre car parks and roads
  • Cycle lanes and bridleways
  • Hard landscaping for gardens in commercial & leisure facilities, education or school grounds, and communal residential gardens
  • Areas prone to flooding, water features, and pond & swimming pool surrounds
  • Domestic gardens, patios, and courtyards
  • Spaces that require SuDS-compliant paving.

Please note, resin bound paving is only suitable for up to 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight or similar weight vehicles and can be laid to high-level trafficked areas.

Description

Resin bound permeable paving that comprises clear UV stable polyurethane binder and 1–3 mm, 2–5 mm, or 6–10 mm aggregate. Hand-laid by a qualified team of installers, an average depth of 15–22 mm or 40–100 mm is recommended depending on its location and intended use.

Resin bound paving can be laid to open-course asphalt, tarmac, concrete, or other free-draining subbase courses and comes in a variety of colours and finishes.

SuDS Compliant

If you are specifying this paving as part of a SuDS development, then you must ensure the base build-up is also permeable, so either compacted Mot Type 1 or open textured binder course tarmac or concrete.

Natural Foliage

If your surface area contains tree collars, organic tree trunks, and watering systems, then a resin bound tree pit should be specified.

These are installed using 100% 6–10 mm aggregate at a minimum thickness of 40 mm, which can go to 100 mm dependent on requirements.

The larger stones allow for larger air and water recesses and are designed to break with root movement to preserve the root ball and prevent damage to (or killing) the tree.

Resin Bound Features and Benefits

  • No stone migration.
  • Can be overlaid to existing good quality open-course tarmac, concrete, or compacted Type 1 material, laid to existing edges for passive support.
  • Fully porous SuDS-compliant system, allowing water and air circulation to improve areas prone to standing water, and around trees and foliage.
  • A variety of aggregate finishes to choose from including natural granite, quartz, marble, recycled glass, and colour-coated stone.
  • Smooth yet slip-resistant.
  • Hard-wearing and low maintenance.
  • Service life for the system is approximately 8–15 years, depending on the individual environment, usage, and subbase quality.

Ideal Specifications for Resin Bound Installation

  • Driveways: 18–20 mm thickness.
  • Commercial / pedestrianised areas: 22 mm thickness.
  • Footpaths: 15 mm thickness.
  • Cycle lanes: 20 mm thickness.
  • Car parks: 22 mm thickness.
  • Patios and landscaped gardens: 15 mm thickness.
  • Tree pits: 40–100 mm thickness.
