11-storey new build, Salford Quays

More than 500 PVC-U windows were chosen for an 11-storey residential new-build, X1 The Exchange, close to the prestigious Media City in Salford Quays after the developer was presented with specification and costings that showed the material to be an economic alternative to the aluminium frames originally specified.

200-windows for major care home group, Manchester

The Yorkshire-based fabricator went back to rescue the project, working directly for the Care UK group, to finish the last few items. This enabled the new-build Abney Court care home in Cheadle to be completed allowing care home residents to move in as planned, on time.

Building for the future of education

Jade Windows has completed a large project at Castleford Academy which saw the establishment self-fund a two phase refurbishment of windows, doors and a fully glazed corridor. With over 1200 students attending Castleford Academy the need for refurbishment was apparent as Ryan Fozzard, estimating manager at Jade Windows explained: “For students to perform well academically their environment needs to be comfortable and inspiring. The original school was built in 1906 and despite the addition of a sports hall and drama studio, the building had become tired and desperately needed an overhaul.”

High rise development Manchester

Wilburn Basin is a brand new high-quality housing development of nearly 500 homes in four blocks ranging from 8 to 21 storeys. The main contractor Renaker specified PVC-U windows and doors because of its ability to deliver the aesthetics, performance and U values needed within the budget required. A total of 1,200 windows, including stacked/ribbon windows, plus 440 sets of French doors needed, the contract was a demanding one. The specifications were exacting too, with high levels of acoustic glazing required on elevations that were located next to busy roads, the railway line and retail park.

Home Fit for a King or Queen

In a first for West Yorkshire based Jade Windows the Spectus fabricator supplied and fitted 300 windows for the refurbishment of former stately home Markfield Court, now an Orchard Care Homes residential nursing home. Spectus Window Systems was on hand to guide and advise the company through any potential challenges. As Martin Althorpe, technical director at Spectus Window Systems said: “The issues surrounding the Markfield Court project were difficult, not because of installation but from a technical and administrative viewpoint.

Spectus delivers required specification for new build retirement village

Over 300 Spectus Elite 70 System windows were used in the construction of a new build retirement village in Chorley. Chorley Council commissioned a 65 apartment retirement village to provide those aged 55 and above with an independent living space with access to care and support. The development, Primrose Gardens, is part of the Council’s strategic masterplan. The Elite 70 System was able to meet the requirement & within the budget. It is a five- chamber system, which increases thermal performance, meaning it is capable of achieving a Window Energy Rating of A+ and U-values to 0.8W/m2K

Spectus flush tilt & turn windows fitted in high profile social housing development

Spectus Flush Tilt & Turn Windows specified in the construction of 22 houses and 22 flats in Crawley. A former depot in Southgate Crawley was the site of a development of 44 high quality social housing units for Crawley Borough Council. The high profile location next to a popular park meant the aesthetics of the development was vital. Architecturally, a contemporary interpretation of the Crawley ‘new town’ style was specified, with mainly brick elevations, using a palette of three colours, and windows with reconstituted stone surrounds on the buildings at the entrance to the site.

Spectus vertical sliders student accommodation Brighton

This refurbishment of University of Sussex student accommodation in Brighton was part of a wider programme, which houses 124 students, new windows were specified. Spectus Vertical Sliders were identified as the windows that would deliver the aesthetics required for a building in a conservation area. SBD-accredited fabricator, Mercury Glazing were able to deliver the Spectus Vertical Sliders achieving U Value of 1.3W/m2K , which meant they would meet the thermal efficiency requirements. The specification for the solar shading glass was developed in conjunction with the Spectus technical team, with a final value of 4mm SN70/37.
