More than 500 PVC-U windows were chosen for an 11-storey residential new-build, X1 The Exchange, close to the prestigious Media City in Salford Quays after the developer was presented with specification and costings that showed the material to be an economic alternative to the aluminium frames originally specified.

Spectus Vertical Sliders were identified as the windows that would deliver the aesthetics required for a building in a conservation area and provide more thermally efficient and improved sound insulation for the occupants.
The Spectus specification team worked closely with all parties to develop the technical designs and specification approvals of the windows.
The comprehensive Spectus in-house commercial design facility provided exacting information that covers WER’s, structural, window loading and load bearing calculations and detailed section specification. Furthermore, sample windows were provided to help support the planning application.
The finished result has transformed the exterior of the apartments.
200-windows for major care home group, Manchester

The Yorkshire-based fabricator went back to rescue the project, working directly for the Care UK group, to finish the last few items. This enabled the new-build Abney Court care home in Cheadle to be completed allowing care home residents to move in as planned, on time.

Jade Windows has completed a large project at Castleford Academy which saw the establishment self-fund a two phase refurbishment of windows, doors and a fully glazed corridor.
With over 1200 students attending Castleford Academy the need for refurbishment was apparent as Ryan Fozzard, estimating manager at Jade Windows explained: “For students to perform well academically their environment needs to be comfortable and inspiring. The original school was built in 1906 and despite the addition of a sports hall and drama studio, the building had become tired and desperately needed an overhaul.”

Wilburn Basin is a brand new high-quality housing development of nearly 500 homes in four blocks ranging from 8 to 21 storeys.
The main contractor Renaker specified PVC-U windows and doors because of its ability to deliver the aesthetics, performance and U values needed within the budget required. A total of 1,200 windows, including stacked/ribbon windows, plus 440 sets of French doors needed, the contract was a demanding one. The specifications were exacting too, with high levels of acoustic glazing required on elevations that were located next to busy roads, the railway line and retail park.

In a first for West Yorkshire based Jade Windows the Spectus fabricator supplied and fitted 300 windows for the refurbishment of former stately home Markfield Court, now an Orchard Care Homes residential nursing home.

Over 300 Spectus Elite 70 System windows were used in the construction of a new build retirement village in Chorley.
Chorley Council commissioned a 65 apartment retirement village to provide those aged 55 and above with an independent living space with access to care and support. The development, Primrose Gardens, is part of the Council’s strategic masterplan.
The Elite 70 System was able to meet the requirement & within the budget. It is a five- chamber system, which increases thermal performance, meaning it is capable of achieving a Window Energy Rating of A+ and U-values to 0.8W/m2K

Planning permission was secured to build a block of 26 two bed flats for social rent, including 10 amenity homes for older people on an urban site in the heart of Paisley.

483 Spectus Elite 70 windows were specified and installed in the development of 47 affordable homes built into the fabric of Edinburgh's historic Edmonstone walled garden
The historic Edmonstone walled garden is the site of an ambitious £5 million housing development, which includes 47 affordable homes by Hillcrest Housing Association.
The development project has 16 cottage flats and 31 houses made up of one, two and three-bedroom properties. The design respects the existing wall and has seen the historic structure become an integral part of the structure of the new homes.

A former depot in Southgate Crawley was the site of a development of 44 high quality social housing units for Crawley Borough Council.
The high profile location next to a popular park meant the aesthetics of the development was vital. Architecturally, a contemporary interpretation of the Crawley ‘new town’ style was specified, with mainly brick elevations, using a palette of three colours, and windows with reconstituted stone surrounds on the buildings at the entrance to the site.

This refurbishment of University of Sussex student accommodation in Brighton was part of a wider programme, which houses 124 students, new windows were specified. Spectus Vertical Sliders were identified as the windows that would deliver the aesthetics required for a building in a conservation area.
SBD-accredited fabricator, Mercury Glazing were able to deliver the Spectus Vertical Sliders achieving U Value of 1.3W/m2K , which meant they would meet the thermal efficiency requirements. The specification for the solar shading glass was developed in conjunction with the Spectus technical team, with a final value of 4mm SN70/37.
