AS NZS 1170.1 Test report New Zealand by Q-railing

Folienwerk Wolfen GmbH

Several base shoe barriers were mounted on a steel test rig with sufficient strength to withstand the loads. For each barrier we tested the horizontal line load since the concentrated load of 0.6 kN was not significant. A horizontal line load is applied to the height of 1000 mm for the residential buildings, which represents the handrail height. The load is generated by hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders and is measured with a load cell. Loading was applied to the glass on a handrail height of 1.00m from finished floor level and the deflection was measured at the same height. The impact test with an impactor having the mass of 50 kg was executed on the glass: with the EN-12600 body: at the horizontal middle of the glass, 250 mm below the handrail at a fall height of 700/900/1200 mm

Ball drop test report DIN52338 at 0°C, -20°C and -40 °C at Friedmann&Kirchner

Folienwerk Wolfen GmbH

The performance of laminated safety glass made with different types of interlayers was investigated using the ball drop tests according the DIN52338 standard. The tests were carried out independently at the Friedmann & Kirchner institute (F&K). According to the norm, 500 mm x 500 mm of LSG samples have been tested with a 1 kg weight ball. These tests were done to evaluate the performance of LSG at cold temperatures. The samples were exposed under the colder climate conditions of 0 °C, -20 °C and -40 °C prior to performing the ball drop tests. evguard® laminating film and the combination of evguard®/MPE has successfully passed the test at all 3 testing temperatures. It has been confirmed that evguard® and evguard® MPE interlayers are premium products for safety and security applications.

CRL Tests of freestanding barrier glass with evguard® laminating interlayer film

Hamilton Erskine required a number of different glass constructions to be tested as barrier glass. Encapsulated within the Evguard EVA in some of the glass constructions was a modified polyester (MPE) sheet in various thicknesses. The tests were conducted at the premises of CR Laurence using their balustrade load testing rig and observed by John Colvin of JCGC Limited. Evguard EVA is stiffer than standard PVB, but not as stiff as DG41 PVB. In a sufficiently rigid top mounted clamping system, 16.8 mm and 17.5 mm laminated toughened glass using Evguard would be appropriate to resist a 0.74 kN/m barrier load. In a sufficiently rigid top mounted clamping system, 21.5 mm laminated toughened glass using Evguard would be appropriate to resist a 1.5 kN/m barrier load.

The brittle properties of glass to impact loads is a main disadvantage in many applications. Thanks to Laminated Safety Glasses (LSG), resistance to penetration at a broad temperature range gives protection against the risk of injury, vandalism, burglary and security. This makes the evguard® product family stand out in the laminated safety glass industry market as a premium product. There are several international standards in the glass industry to evaluate the safety performance of laminated safety glass and corresponding interlayers. In this one pager results are discussed from the ball drop testing according to the DIN 52338 standard on laminated safety glasses made with different types of interlayers.

evguard® laminating finterlayer - High temperature behavior - up to a temperature of 240°C

Folienwerk Wolfen GmbH

LG Samples were tested at IFT Rosenheim according to the standard DIN EN ISO 12543-4 for behavior at high temperature. The samples have been exposed to a temperature of 100°C for 2 hours. None of the specimen showed any kind of failure, bubbles or delamination. To investigate the behavior of glass laminates at temperatures beyond the international standard test DIN EN ISO 12543-4, further tests were carried out. Because evguard® laminating film is a crosslinking material, it behaves differently compared to other laminating films. LG samples were exposed stepwise up to a temperature of 240°C. The test up to at least 200°C was passed without any delamination effects or visual changes. Also at a temperature of 240°C, no delamination was detected, only a slight yellowing was observed.

evguard® laminating interlayers - Artificial UV aging (3,000 hours)

Folienwerk Wolfen GmbH

Laminated glass samples were tested. § In accordance with the norm DIN EN ISO 12543-4, the artificial aging by UV irradiation was carried out by means of a xenon-arc solar simulation spectrum with a power of 50 W / m2 in total UV wavelength. The examined samples have been continuously irradiated for 3,000 hours. In this case, a control measurement of the haze values and the light transmission was carried out for every 500 h. The artificial aging by UV radiation was carried out by Friedmann & Kirchner testing institute (Germany) on laminated glass samples made from a series of different laminates. Both the LSG made with evguard® laminating interlayer and combination with evguard® MPE passed the test successfully. No visual change was observed.

Folienwerk Wolfen GmbH

Laminated glass samples were tested. The samples have been exposed to continuous salt spray for 3,000 hours in a salt spray test according to ASTM B117/ISO 9227. In the test chamber of the salt spray cabinet, which is heated to 35 ± 1°C, a solution of 5 ± 1 percent by mass of sodium chloride with a pH 6.5 7.2 is atomized continuously. As a result of spraying this solution, the relative humidity in the test cabinet is more than 95 %. The samples have been exposed for a time of 3,000 hours. In time, all panels show more or less iridizing colors due to the aggressive attack of salt spray on the top coating on the glass. None of the samples show delamination.
