Set to become the second biggest film studio in the world, the £121m expansion of the Pinewood Group's Shepperton Studios includes 31 purpose-built stages.With £500m of private investment into the former brownfield site, the development is expanding capacity and increasing space to keep Shepperton at the forefront of the British film & television industry.ChallengeAcoustics are paramount in creating an award-winning production. However, noises from outside the studio can creep unintentionally, leading to reverberation or interference from unwanted sounds, decreasing the film's overall quality. To control the sound within and without the studio, the Shepperton Studios have a unique 'building within a building' design: decreasing unwanted sounds to controllable levels for optimal recording purposes. SolutionFull envelope solution provider FK Group were awarded this project with a challenge to achieve the acoustic values required for prestigious project. Turning to Fixfast for a solution, the answer they provided was fast and simple to install, with maximum reliability on-site. The main composite panel was fixed back to the heavy gauge steel structure using our A4/316 grade stainless steel DF25-SSA4-HT-S19-6.3 x 225 fasteners. On top, a basic framing system was installed with IH-270 insulation hangers on top of the panel - holding a further 3 layers of insulation (approx. 200-250mm thick). Sandwiching this all together was a further 100mm thick composite panel on the outside wall.Acoustic values achieving, the new and expanded Shepperton Studios are set to stay at the top of the British film industry. Sherborne School is an independent, HMC boarding and day school for young men aged 13-18. Steeped in history, the buildings date back to the 12th century, having educated many boys over the centuries. A £9m extension to the existing sports centre has doubled the size of the buildings, including new facilities such as:Squash courtsPerformance gym studiosFull length indoor cricket nets2nd large sports hallGolf simulator roomClimbing and bouldering wallsClassrooms and changing facilitiesThe state-of-the-art centre has transformed the sports training capabilities of the school and the students it develops, giving more opportunity for the boys to explore and train for different activities. ChallengeTAC Projects were appointed as the specialist cladding contractor for the exterior cladding on the new Sherborne School sports centre and Link Building - opting to use a timber cladding rainscreen system for a stunning natural wood effect. Composed of Siberian Larch Timber planks (sourced through Vincent Timber), and on top of a 120mm composite TATA Trisomet carrier panel; the timber is grade A and includes applied fire treatment to Euroclass B fire rating. Solution Fixing back the panel to the substructure was a job for Fixfast's MatchFast composite panel fixings - with moulded UV resistant colour heads, these fasteners are available for timber, light, or heavy steel - with washers for both roof and wall applications. Also used within the construction were Fixfast's DrillFast ultra heavy self-drillers for 25mm steel; DrillFast low profile fasteners lacquered to the specific colour required to blend in with the building, and accessories to suit - suit as silicone and strip sealants for sealing and weatherproofing joints. One of the largest logistics units to have been built in Ireland within recent years, the Smyth Toys warehouse in Dundalk is a milestone in the company's story of growth and expansion. A family-run business started in County Mayo, Smyth Toys is a fast growing toy retailer with over 100 stores across the UK and Ireland.Situated within Dundalk Business Park, the site for the new warehouse was purchased for €8.9 million, and developed by TSL Projects, utilising multiple local contractors for the entire construction process.ChallengeWith 38,000m2 of roofing to clad, and 16,000m2 of cladding to install, Ireland's go-to roofing and cladding specialists Select Roofing were contracted to construct the building envelope on the mammoth warehouse.SolutionOpting to use Kingspan's KS1000RW composite panels for the roof, KS AWP panels for the walls, and DLTR rooflights; Select Roofing turned to Fixfast to use their MatchFast stainless steel A2/304 grade fasteners, moulded to the colours required to blend the fastener heads into the building, including fasteners for both light and heavy steel - where required across the various applications.Roofing and cladding completed within a speedy 11 week programme, Select Roofing achieved zero lost hours on-site, demonstrating their commitment to safety within the working environment.

At the heart of Leeds' cultural district lies the new SOYO development - a mixed-use area bringing social and modern living to the city. Alongside the city's creative quarter of the Leeds Playhouse, as well as the BBC Studios and the College of Music, the SOYO development has promised to 'establish one of the very best places to live, work, and visit in Leeds'.The blocks B + C development consists of 331 apartments, as part of a PRS (Private Rented Sector) scheme - including a variety of different apartments with options up to 3 bedrooms in size. Adjacent to the residential accommodation lies workspace for entrepreneurs and agile working - as well as facilities such as a gym, a bike store, and a basement car park for convenience.ChallengeSpecialist roofing and cladding sub-contractor Axis Envelope Solutions provided the external solution for the exterior cladding of the building. With the construction spanning across two buildings at 8 and 14 storeys high, fasteners were required to securely fix back Kingspan composite panels to a lightweight SFS (Steel Framing System), with an aluminium rainscreen exterior fixed directly back to the panel. SolutionFixfast supplied Axis with TIDR A4/316 stainless steel insulation anchors, as well as A4 grade stainless steel pop rivets, and Fixfast's DrillFast A4 stainless low profile fasteners with lacquered heads to blend in and match the specific panel colour on the building. DF25-SSA4 fasteners were utilised within the construction - self-drilling up to 25mm thick steel with ease, and saving time in pre-drilling for easier installation. St Luke's Cancer Centre is a clinic that sits as part of the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. Providing care for cancer patients across the county, this clinic has undergone work to extend and refurbish the space within the clinic: including the creation of nearly double the amount of existing clinical space, spacious entrances, and a whole range of additional clinical facilities. ChallengeSpecialist roofing company Salnor Roofing Services Ltd were contracted to secure the roof of the clinic, a flat roof with varying levels of tapered insulation - meaning added complexity to the project. The Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre was awarded the New Tourism Business prize at the Lancashire Tourism Awards - an award recognises The Flower Bowl as a high performing new business with a great understanding of the marketplace and further opportunities for development. The unusual living rooftop feature has been part of The Flower Bowl plan at the outset, with the ultimate goal to enable sheep to graze there. The roof had been designed with the sheep in mind, however, the logistics of making a roof ‘sheep-safe’ are extremely complex. The 4,200m2 specialist roof is one of a kind and was created with 700 tonnes of topsoil and grass, with all the perimeters all held back with the EdgeGuard living roof retaining system.

The Lanesborough 5-star hotel on Hyde Park Corner, Knightsbridge in central London; is operated by the Oetker Collection, and is reputedly the most expensive hotel in the city.All the rainwater outlets on the roof were in need of replacement, and Holborn Asphalt needed a simple, effective solution that would be compatible with the waterproofing membrane that they were installing.An extensive number of our FarBo rainwater outlets were selected for this project - these outlets are perfect for this type of work as they fit neatly into any existing drains and downpipes.

This wastewater treatment plant is part of a large and vital infrastructure project across Ireland to stop the flow of raw sewage into the Irish sea.As well as the construction of the treatment plant on the coast of the Irish sea, the project includes two interceptor sewer pipelines and a marine sea outfall to safely discharge the treated water once processed at the plant.One of the biggest projects so far in the development, the €139m state-of-the-art project will provide wastewater treatment infrastructure for up to 36,000 people once complete.ChallengeLocated in a coastal setting, the fasteners and components used had to withstand the harsh and highly corrosive environment.
